Bush Ignores Law, Fails To Appoint Policy Coordinator For North Korea
thinkprogress.org — A law passed last year required Bush to appoint a "Coordinator of Policy on North Korea" to "provide policy direction and leadership for negotiations with North Korea relating to nuclear weapons" by December 16, 2006. That was 19 days ago and Bush still hasn't done it. Meanwhile, the North Korean nuclear program continues unabaited.

Usually Judd places these accurately. Think Progress posts are political opinion.- sharpfork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10The closest thing I could find to opinion in the linked article is "The situation in North Korea continues to deteriorate, but Bush still won’t act."
Can you point out the opinion in the article other than the comment section? - GabrielS, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1You actually nailed the opinion right there. Although, this is another example of political opinion in Judd's post.
"All of the administration’s efforts to control North Korea’s nuclear program have failed."
Examine Judd's Digg posts. They usually are under political opinion. - sharpfork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I replied to your comment mostly due to the seemingly blanket statement that "Think Progress posts are political opinion."
I see your point that this article might be more appropriate in the opinion topic but disagree that people should "bury: wrong topic" since the article is not clearly an opinion piece and simply being on think progress does not make it so.
I appreciate your thoughtful response and figure we should just agree to disagree. - GabrielS, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2@sharpfork
I'd let it slide if it was any other Digg user. But this is Judd Legum's account. If you go to Think Progress and are the first one to Digg a post, you will see that Digg automatically categorizes it as political opinion.
Digg only works if the community follows its own procedures. - VTmruhlin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Gabe, I'd say your only ground for saying it's inaccurate would be to dispute the claim that he "ignored" the law. Maybe there's some reason why the position hasn't been filled? Otherwise, the story's accurate whether you like it or not.

- sfacets, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1This isn't the first (or last) law he has broken.
- n8r0n, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Please, tell me all the others he has broken...

Shall we talk about the Padilla fellow who is a US citizen and has been held without the rights that US citizens are suppose to enjoy? Bush is responsible for such acts. Shall we talk about signing statements that state that the Executive branch will ignore laws enacted by the Legislative branch? Last time I checked, the President doesn't have this power under the Constitution.
If you want to put your head int he sand, then that is your right. But, don't be so obtuse to think that Bush hasn't been breaking laws left and right.
- RobM, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"Bush Ignores Law" -- That's news?
- DiggsOnlyNeoCon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2It's not law. And even if it is... please, this is a stupid discussion.
I went 70 mph in a 65 zone. I guess I ignored the law, but who cares. Read my links below. - RobM, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1http://www.google.com/search?q=bush+ignores+the+law

- satanatnmtedu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't see the correlation between the failure to appoint someone and the nuclear program continuing. Even if some had been appointed, the nuclear program would still be on going. NK's nuclear program gives them a negotiating chip, it make Kim Jong Ill a major world player, and NK would be stupid to give it up.
At the same time, the US is helping India with their nuclear program - supposedly civilian only, but... - DiggsOnlyNeoCon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4From http://english.donga.com/srv/service.php3?bicode=060000&biid=2006120728718
Emphasis on "asked"
"Under the 2007 National Defense Authorization Act that took effect on October 17, U.S. President George W.
Bush is asked to appoint a North Korea Policy Coordinator 60 days after the Act comes into effect."- DiggsOnlyNeoCon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2More information: http://www.dailynk.com/english/read.php?cataId=nk00100&num=1397
There is essentially an unofficial coordinator.

- saska, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Maybe Bush added a signing statement to that bill exempting himself from it. :P
- djm0ther, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Bush needs to get his act together.. point blank
