When Bush first took office, he offered tax incentives to oil companies to build more refineries and none have taken advantage of it. The reason why is because with less refineries, they can minimize the supply and drive up the price of gas. More drilling isn't necessary. The oil companies have the right to drill in about 65 million acres in the US and again, they haven't taken the opportunity so they can artificially drive up the price of gas. With these current gas prices, they are taking advantage of a desperate, misinformed public to secure the rights to drill offshore and in Alaska, none of which will have an impact on our gas price.
