ustourofduty.org — Dolores tried to give Bush a sense of what type of person Erik had been. She described her son as a "comedian" whose favorite saying was, "Life is good." The president replied, "How do you know his life would have been good?"

G. W. Bush is a ***** idiot. It's too bad he's president. I would have loved to hire him to wash my car.
I think this might dupe. It did, sorry. - clabbergrrl, on 10/12/2007, -16/+54It might or might not have to do with drugs, it might just have to do with being born into the upper class and never having been held accountable for anything.
Nietzsche pointed out that intelligence probably developed first among slaves, because they had to be able to predict the master's behavior but he didn't have to be able to predict theirs.
A lifetime of being able to say any damn thing that comes into your head and never having to face any consequences for it could easily lead to this type of pathological behavior. - kcpwnsgman, on 10/12/2007, -11/+30@L0phtpDK

Well, now you have the word of two of the mothers of dead soldiers. One who was so upset at his perceived insensitivity that she began a protest at his ranch, and the second who said this. Additionally, we have his direct quotes which are mangled at best even when he's trying to be sympathetic.
I find it hard to believe that two mothers of dead soldiers, who met the president in private, would have the need to make up these quotes, especially given his track record of saying the stupidest things.
Remember, he's the guy who accidentally said that gynecologists need to be free to spread their love across the nation. Everybody in the audience said "Wtf?" Just recently he referred in public, in a speech heard across the Middle East to "Islamic Extremists" which taken one way could mean that he meant all Islamics are extremists.
In other words, yeah, he probably did say that. Who knows what he meant. - blobzorz, on 10/12/2007, -20/+4@Holydope = YOU ALL EVERYBODY

WTF are you talking about? When I say "Islamic extremists", I mean people who believe in Islam in an extreme manner. Same as if I say Christian extremists, or Christian fundamentalists. Let's try not to redefine "is" here again...
And basically your only proof is Cindy Sheehan (who recently divorced her son's father) and some woman on some website (whose objective is finding the "truth in Iraq") with a video that doesn't even work.
Clearly inaccurate. - bigdavediode, on 10/12/2007, -17/+18GMD:
>WTF are you talking about? When I say "Islamic extremists", I mean people who believe in Islam in an extreme manner.
Well, that makes me feel much better that because you took it this way that the one billion Muslims around the world will take it in its inoffensive sense too. I mean, who would anticipate that the press in the Islamic world would take a reference to "Islamic extremists" in a negative manner?
Crap, you're so blinded by Republican brainwashing that you can't even ENVISION this being taken in its negative context, by press that hates us.
Just a thought, but a smart president would know how to, you know, use words. - reda, on 10/12/2007, -16/+21If I remember well, after 9/11 president Bush mentioned the world "Crusade" in one of his speeches. You can't imagine how this was perceived through the Muslim world.

This is NOT a video of Bush actually saying this!
This is a very distraught woman who has lost a son, recounting the story of the encounter with the person she believes is directly responsible for that death.
In such an emotionally charged state, is it possible that she is embellishing her story, or that she read more into the events than what was actually intended? Is it possible that she's telling selective parts of the story?
Highly likely.
Show me the video of the ACTUAL ENCOUNTER and let me decide for myself if Bush was out of line. - GMD1987, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12@bigdiodedave

If it was sooner than Jan. 2009, I would probably dance in the street. We have to get out of this crazy war that is only to secure a source of oil that will run out soon enough anyway, and to provide contracts to American corporations, essentially funneling money from the taxpayers to the corporations. It's not worth all these people dying on both sides.
Just get out of there and let those assholes fight it out. When the dust settles, whichever government wins will still sell us oil. They hate Americans, and they burn our flag in the street. But you never see them burning our money in the street.

for video - njbair, on 10/12/2007, -18/+25Okay, here's what happened.
Dude's mom met the leader of the free world, and in so doing she was justifiably nervous. Given her apparent political bias, she chose to believe that he intimidated her purposely. Her entire purpose for speaking with the President was to express her unhappiness with the war. She told him, in so many words, "thanks to your War on Terror my son is dead. He is missing out on a good life."
The President was eager to point out that military inaction, resulting in continued threats to our safety and security, would only continue to adversely affect our quality of life. His point was that, if we don't defend our freedom, there is no guarantee that life in the future will be good at all. The woman chose to interpret this as a hurtful, malevolent remark. But then again, she has an anti-Bush bias.- elastikos, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8I think even you would have a anti-Bush bias if your son died in Iraq. The whole thing is he-said-she-said, and is completely neutral.
Therefore your belief that the video is fake, is no more valid that someone who believes it's real. Unless you were personally in the room when this happened, you have no proof that it didn't happen.
So stop calling other people pricks because you're so absolutely sure it's fake. You're no better than someone who thinks it's absolutely real. - CatcherInTheWhy, on 10/12/2007, -10/+12Regardless of whether or not one "believes" the video, the title is inaccurate because she is not giving a verbatim quotation, but rather interpreting (and perhaps misinterpreting) what the President said. I cannot see how you could possibly say that the headline and/or article are "accurate" when they don't convey this gap between fact and fact-as-reported-by-grieving-mother
- neko, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4Right. Yes. Her grief-addled mind didn't understand the President's comforting words. He was trying to tell her, it's okay, Iraq can still be seen as a success in the future, it's good that her son's life was cut short because it furthers America's interests.
As for "We won't know in our lifetime whether or not Iraq was a success.",
it will never be a success in her lifetime, and it damn sure wasn't a success in her son's lifetime.
- CatcherInTheWhy, on 10/12/2007, -19/+29we're not blind mrAssman you are an arrogant prick. First off, in the video (which is HIGHLY edited), she doesn't even give a direct quotation. She says that President Bush "said something to the effect of would his life have been good" so that's automatically going to get it marked as inaccurate.
- Ellerbestyle, on 10/12/2007, -15/+11Talking about a dupe. Man yall will believe anything.
- kimastergeorge, on 10/12/2007, -12/+7...Do you know what a dupe is?
A dupe is a duplicate story.
This may or may not be a duplicate story, but that has nothing to do with how believable it is. - headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14He/she may mean "dupe", as in you have all be duped.
- kimastergeorge, on 10/12/2007, -12/+7...Do you know what a dupe is?
- therealduckie, on 10/12/2007, -10/+14Nice to see the radical right burying another Anti-Bush story...
:/ typical- VTmruhlin, on 10/12/2007, -8/+12Maybe that should tell you something.
I at least have good reasons for burying things like this. It's a biased site with no witnesses. Reporting one side of a he-said/she-said issue is just wrong.
Feel free to hate the president, but at least make a good argument. - neko, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Well, yes, and when it's a pro-Bush article/comment being buried, it's the radical Left's fault.
And let's not forget those radical Uppists. Seems like those insidious Ups are all over digg, modifying stories to their own unique political bias.
I get tired of your crazy partisan politics.
- VTmruhlin, on 10/12/2007, -8/+12Maybe that should tell you something.
- IcerC, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7It's not inaccurate!
It's as true as a news company reporting it.
Just reminds you of how much pain some go through in this war.- CatcherInTheWhy, on 10/12/2007, -13/+4You, sir, are a soft-minded idiot
- CAvenger, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3^
And your partisan, overly bitchy ass has been blocked.
- MrSuezo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I'm really having trouble understanding why over the past few days Digg news has had nothing but anti-Bush stories. Something like this is not front page news on any other site.
Seriously the fact that Bush is inarticulate is old news. How about we all start making fun of his pronunciation of "Nucular" that would really be front page news?- iliketoprogram, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i think it's because there are many people out there who 'digg' such articles...
- RaelShark, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21I heard Bush eats babies. I saw it on the Internet.
- iliketoprogram, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5i just wanted to say..
POW!
I was here!
And like.. While i detest what -- is being done here in our country, and in the name the people of this country.. . I find it very hard to believe that G.W.Bush did it all himself. I've lately found better things to spend my energy on... I began feeling like I was screaming at a frog, or kicking a large tree...
For those of you who are foaming at the mouth, I would like to respectfully suggest that you go forth and read things about the world, and find ways to spend your energies making it a better place for people to live in. Raise the awareness of a neighbor without scaring them off with far-right or far-left rhetoric. Don't bash anybody, don't blame someone. That is for the lawyers..
For you, it is to make those around you smarter than they are. We wouldn't be where we are today if we all had more knowledge floating around amongst us.
There was a comment about Neitz and slaves earlier.. There is maybe some truth there, but not in a genetic sense, methinks.. And beyond that.. i mean, if it were true, what then?
then, the smartest of the slaves would do what they had to do in order to achieve freedom (within reason and moral bounds) -- they would further enslave themselves to their master..
No, not all of the smartest slaves. but look for example at what happened to N. Tesla.
You won't change the machine by hurling yourselves into it's jaws. Aside, you will fill youselves with the bile of distrust and hate, until you are of no use to anyone...
Go in peace; may wisdom, humility and empathy guide lead your heart, not your anger. - Jun168, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Even if this turns out to be lie by that woman, it won't make me hate Bush any less. I don't hate Bush because he mangles the English language or has bad people skills. I hate Bush because of his policies. His domestic policies has has brought this country its largest deficit in history with no end to it in sight. He has not fixed social security, health care, or anything else that he promised to during his campaign. His foreign policy has increased terrorism instead of lowering it and he has made us weak against those evil Islamic facists and terrorists. ***** Bush. Thats why I hate him.
- mikeyuf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I think that depends on where the terrorism is taking place. In the US?
- tawaraja, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2It this is true, I feel ashamed of Bush. But being a politician, I don't think Dubya will actually do that.
He needs more support and votes, therefore no village fool would actually say something that ruins the chance.
Most probably, some anti-Bush is rumour mongering. Bah! - infonote, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Actually as regards domestic policies. USA economy would be excellent if it was not for the war/s.
Bush main problem is in foreign policy. America is starting to be perceived negatively in the world.
If he really said this he should be ashamed of himself. He said one thing right however, that the result of the Iraq war won't be known until a decade.- reda, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4"He said one thing right however, that the result of the Iraq war won't be known until a decade."
The result of the war IS already known: Tens of thousands of dead iraqui people.
You people seem to forget the most important things. It's not about political position or governements in place, or oil, or .. leave that ***** to Bush and other politicians, it's about HUMAN LIVES, because the dead in iraq were humans just like you and everyone else. And just like Bush, his sons, and all his loved ones. So when he talks in this video about the death he caused as if it were nothing ...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJnm-GmlbIk
anyway what I want to say is Iraq IS a bad thing, war in general is bad, but making economical punishements on a country for more than 10 years, letting it's people starve from hunger and lacking the most essential things in life (under a ruler that didn't give a ***** as long as he was living ok in his palaces), then coming to those people, killing a lot of them, injuring and disabling and inceasing poverty on even more of them, creating civil wars between them (the region was stable before the us came there), all that to steal it's natural ressources (the oil that belongs to the peoplle native of that land). That's a far grater crime to call it just "WAR". - samdu, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11"The result of the war IS already known: Tens of thousands of dead iraqui people."
So the END result of WWII was hundreds of thousands of dead Japanese? Put the peacenick pipe down and try to comprehend world geopolitics and history.
- reda, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4"He said one thing right however, that the result of the Iraq war won't be known until a decade."
- velocipenguin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I'm going to start using that line on hardcore pro-lifers.
"How do you know the fetus would have led a good life?" - spazz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Moron needs to stop talking!
- aznron911, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2so do you guys think Kerry would've done a better job?
- reda, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3sadly,
I doubt it :(
I don't think it's the man , the president person, that decides on what goes on. Ruling a country isn't simple and no one can make it alone, and changing the man appearing to the public won't have much effect I think.
But again I'm not American, so I probably know nothing about it.
(Just as most Americans know nothing about Iran, Hezbollah, Saddam, ... etc).
- reda, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3sadly,
- lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Bush probably was an ass but to quote him in the article without knowing those were his exact words or mentioning that it was anecdotal is very irresponsible journalism. Marked as inaccurate.
- boonesfarm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"DIGG POSTERS SCRUTINIZE QUESTIONABLE SMEAR ABOUT BUSH"
*Warning: The Content in this Statement May be Inaccurate - iliketoprogram, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1i propose that, by nature of the discussion here, this article be marked as accurate =D
wtf? - afpunk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I'm about as anti-Bush as they come, but it is right to mark this as inaccurate. The submission tends to show that this is a direct quote, however there is no evidence of that whatsoever.
However, let's be realistic. The man is not a linguist. Chances are quite high that he could let something slip from his mouth that could be construed as hateful and shallow, especially by someone in an emotional state. He has said some pretty stupid things on tape, and let's not forget his dad publicly stating that atheists shouldn't be considered patriots or citizens. Like father, like son. - franksmith, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5Just another lefty site that is full of BS that the moron libs at Digg just love to use to fan their pansy as* flames with
What a bunch of idiots... most people have completely forgotten about 9/11
I was foolish to think that this country has enough class to remember what we have been through and what our freedom actually cost us.- bigdavediode, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6frank:
>What a bunch of idiots... most people have completely forgotten about 9/11
That would make sense, if only Iraq had something to do with 9/11. It didn't.
No, if we were smart right now we'd be securing Afghanistan and preventing what is quickly turning around into a loss there, as the Taliban take over more and more of the country and launch larger numbers of insurgent attacks.
But instead, we're in... Iraq doing our best to give it to Iran.
- bigdavediode, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6frank:
- katiey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I think in any emotional state, truth comes out much easier than a lie. Though the video is so choppy/edited, its hard to say/see/hear if words of comfort were used or not. The part that gets me is the very last couple of seconds when she states how "we will never know in our lifetime..."come on now, or is everything getting worse? nonetheless...perplexed.
- osc1882, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4Cindy Sheehan is a bitch.
I ***** hate that loser.- bigdavediode, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Except this quote wasn't from Cindy Sheehan. It's from another mother who he managed to offend.
And yes, she was a loser, having lost her son as she did. But thank you for reinforcing that there is no one, in any position, who the Republicans won't malign. - Sukino, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4@osc1882
So, when do you enlist?
- bigdavediode, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Except this quote wasn't from Cindy Sheehan. It's from another mother who he managed to offend.
- Oonicello, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6This is ridiculous. Do you really think any politician (Repulican or Democrat) would say this to a woman of a dead soldier? Let's be realistic about this.
- Sukino, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5Loads of pink elephants flying around you in your dream world?
- dirtylobster, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4There's this talk about Bush being re-elected. With the current situation with the United States acting as a world police, I think the rest of the citizens of the world should also get a vote each. Until then, I blame the majority of americans for being both scared and stupid. Sorry about this, but I really feel overwhelmed about have an idiot sitting in that kind of position and not being able to do anything about it.
- gluck, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Yeah call me stupid *****-tard, but that's why you cant be elected for that office more than two times. I blame the [insert your institute of education here] for teaching you to comment on things you have no ***** idea about.
- sattalite4, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2if you are not American, please disregard this comment.
if you are, you should be deported. He has already been elected and the constitution only allows 1 re-election.
either way, you should not be allowed to speak
- mikejohnston, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9First and foremost- I am not taking up for Bush BUT the *exact* quote was "HE SAID SOMETHING TO THE EFFECT OF" -- Careful. This is the *opinion* of someone who is obviously angry.
