Dick Cheney's Sadistic Passion for Shooting Tame Animals (AlterNet)
alternet.org — Birds raised for canned hunts at gun clubs and in state "recreational" areas are grown in packed pens -- think factory farmed chickens -- and fitted with goggles so they won't peck each other to death from the crowding. When released for put and take hunters like Cheney, pen raised birds can barely walk or fly.

- davewashere, on 11/15/2007, -1/+2These are just primal urges, not an impeachable offense. I heard that after he kills the birds, he jerks off on their dead bodies, just like our cavemen ancestors used to do.

- VIrus9, on 11/15/2007, -6/+134Calling Cheney a hunter is like calling a pet store clerk a zoo-keeper.
- Dumbledorito, on 11/15/2007, -2/+50Or someone who picks his meal out of a lobster-tank a sport fisherman.

They're seriously freaky to stick your hands in.
- snugglebear, on 11/15/2007, -1/+2Dude, don't disrespect those lobster tanks.
- MacEnvy, on 11/15/2007, -2/+35As an avid hunter, I'm ashamed to be lumped in with the likes of him. Rich assholes who take joy in slaughtering farm-raised animals are despicable.
- Smaulz, on 11/15/2007, -0/+6As far as I'm concerned, if you aren't hunting something that can kill you back... what's the point? Naw, I shouldn't say that. I enjoy venison as much as the next guy.
- MacEnvy, on 11/15/2007, -2/+9Venison is also MUCH better for you than beef. Lower fat %, lower cholesterol, no synthetic hormones, and it's guaranteed to be "free range" and "organic". Unless you choose to hunt penned-in and corralled animals like Mr. Cheney.
- LordVance, on 11/15/2007, -1/+5I have to agree with this guy; personally I never got into hunting much (I can't stand sitting in a tree for hours on end). However, my father has hunted and fished all my life; beef simply can not compare to the quality of venison. Venison tenderloin and eggs is one of my favorite breakfast meals of all time. (my father is a butcher by trade, and we live in New Jersey which has a very long extended bow season, so we stock up and deep freeze quite a bit of venison each year). If you can get your hands on a meat grinder, venison burgers are delicious as well :-)
- nastajus, on 11/15/2007, -1/+2guaranteed unless. Hmm.
- LordVance, on 11/15/2007, -4/+4The same reason many enjoy activities that are not defined by your opposition, but by the personal skill involved. It may sound easy to sit in a tree and wait for a deer to come by; however, there is a lot more involved in bagging large game than simply wait, point, shoot.

- Elranzer, on 11/15/2007, -1/+1It makes them (neocons) feel big because were they to hunt under real conditions, the deer and bears would kick their ass. No contest.

- kbedell, on 11/15/2007, -2/+52The article says he shot like 70 birds in one trip in 2003. I mean - that's a lot of pheasants. Blasting 70 birds who can't fly or run well -- that seems like all you'd do is just sit and blast birds. Maybe I don't get how this is a 'sport'.

- Fieri, on 11/15/2007, -0/+3I laughed at that. ;)
- berb, on 11/15/2007, -2/+26Obviously it was intended as a joke, but assassination threats have never been considered as "free speech", nor should they be. Perhaps I'm reading too deeply into this, but I would personally refrain from wishing/supporting/advocating the death of a high up U.S. politician lest you want to be gangbanged by a SWAT team in the middle of the night.

- omgTHEPATRIOTS, on 11/15/2007, -1/+7now here's a guy who's already given up impeachment. i kind of fear for society seeing things like this, but the truth is that cheney has absolutely destroyed this country. there's alot of pissed off people here, which i completely understand and think is appropriate too. what i fear too is that this country has been so weakened that we don't even have the ability to prosecute this man because he has completely gutted every part of this country from head to toe, and privatized it by selling it out to corporate america, which is now collapsing and due for a severe economic downturn in the near future.
so in total, i can understand why most people think this is an acceptaible option. i really don't think this country as it is currently known will even survive what Cheney and Bush have done. Rewriting intelligence to lie us into one war and try to lie us into a second? anybody who's paying attention knows this, and that his continued freedom means he is a direct representative of all that is destroying this country and what is evil. i think it would be more appropriate to lock him in an insane asylum, personally. - Monkeywithacold, on 11/15/2007, -5/+5Because assassinating humans is so much better than hunting birds.

- principle, on 11/15/2007, -4/+38Bush, Cheney, and the gang are the type of people who love to see others bleed. They don’t loose any sleep over misery they bring, and are proud to show off their pathological problems.
- Zalyster, on 11/15/2007, -6/+3That's a bit harsh, don't you think? I mean, I don't think they'd actually take pleasure in seeing people bleed to death, or not care about people dieing. I think that if someone is not doing a very good job at what they do, it's not because they don't care or they like seeing people suffer, it's just that they happen to be bad at what they do.
That's my opinion at least.
By the way, I'm not a Bush/Cheney fanboy or anything, just trying to give the other side an argument.- dafragsta, on 11/15/2007, -2/+5You sir, are far too optimistic in the face of overwhelming evidence of evil-doing. This guy worked for Haliburton and is receiving deferred payment for services rendered just before he became vice president. While I'm not saying that that deferred payment will balloon on the books, it will most certainly balloon in a numbered swiss bank account. Oh, and by the way, Haliburton, the company who is getting a substantial portion of every penny we pay in taxes, is moving to Dubai. That's right. The rich are stealing from the poor in tax dollars, and taking those ***** dollars right the ***** out of our economy. Where does the money come from? From a ***** central bank who miracles it into existence for the sole purpose of paying the vice president's buddies. We are spending more than we have, and we are being double taxed by inflation, which is what happens when your dollar isn't worth ***** because it's created out of thin air and the companies you buy stuff from have to buy resources from other countries.
This guy endorses torture, he pretends to be his own branch of government, and he's claimed the reigns of more power than any vice president in US history. He shot a guy in the face, and then THAT GUY apologized to him and his family. - yfguitarist, on 11/15/2007, -3/+2You getting buried is what happens when you try to provide the other side of a political argument on digg. (need a tag?) - chijim70, on 11/15/2007, -1/+1True lots of times but in this case I think it's just purely that we do hate Cheney that much. Either he is truly evil and fine with it or insane. It's just not logically possible for him to be sane and not realize how evil he is.

If not then please explain why you would want a person that corrupts intelligence to mislead a whole country into a war that isn't necessary, costing tax payers 800 billion dollars that could be used to fund education. Just so he can get a bigger reward from Halliburton when he leaves office, since he was CEO of that company before he took office. - lhbaker, on 11/15/2007, -2/+15For all the talk about God and Bush's pandering to the Christian right, I suspect that neither Bush nor Cheney believes in any God other than the god of power. Bush is practically begging to have other human beings tortured. Cheney still lies knowingly, trying to decieve people into supporting the war. Cheney alone makes be believe in evil, but the things they've done together have caused many people to doubt God.

He'll have a new coolant pump design (no more "heart attacks"), a solid state drive, desktop search, neat cold-cathode lights that light up whenever he ingests the blood of a fawn, an increased and unlocked FSCB (that front-side crazy bus for you n00bs) of 1.33 gigadahmers, laser eyes, a new 3D window manager and the ability to go on real hunting trips. - iceman0113, on 11/15/2007, -2/+22FTA: " They don't know how to forage or hide in the wild and sometimes have to be kicked to "fly" enough to be shot. Some hunters say shooting the pellet-ready tame animals, which offer no resistance, is like having sex with a blow-up doll. "
Pathetic. Reminds me of the question, "Would you punch a baby in the face for a million dollars?" Except in this case, Cheney would do it for free. This is not a sport, killing defenseless 70 birds is in no way a sport, it is a massacre.- nastajus, on 11/15/2007, -1/+1I like this usage of the word.
- wyrdness, on 11/15/2007, -1/+3"Some hunters say shooting the pellet-ready tame animals, which offer no resistance, is like having sex with a blow-up doll."

- uberamd, on 11/15/2007, -10/+13Serious question and non-bias; just an observation me and some friends have made: Are all of diggs readers liberals?
- Coven, on 11/15/2007, -5/+7Most of them except for the Paul-bots (see two comments down from yours)
- anachronaut, on 11/15/2007, -1/+2As annoying as the constant Ron Paul comments are, that's not really a fair criticism in this case because that's not a "Paul bot". He's a neocon-supporting ***** who's trolling to make the Ron Paul supporters look like even worse spammers than they already appear.
- MacEnvy, on 11/15/2007, -1/+9I consider myself fiscally moderately conservative and socially very liberal. So to answer your question ... maybe?
- Monkeywithacold, on 11/15/2007, -5/+7This article would pretty much be a highlight of how biased most digg users are...
- Fieri, on 11/15/2007, -1/+3First step: Stop with the false left-right paradigm. Liberal means nothing. It's been hijacked by Sean Hannity to mean anyone with an opinion he doesn't want to address. A real "liberal" in the dictionary sense opposes both parties, which are fascist. A real conservative also opposes both parties.
Here are some important issues: The Bill of Rights. The continued existence and strength of the American dollar. Now tell me, which party will protect those? Neither.
The Bushes and Clintons vacation together. Rupert Murdoch advises and openly supports the Hillary campaign. The election is a joke. - chijim70, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2I would say the majority of us are centrist and against fascism, corporatism, the erosion of the constitution, and against the majority of the presiding do nothing government. The present government has almost nobody who represents the majority of American digg users. Realize that digg has a ton of users who aren't even US citizens I've made plenty of posts ranting about both sides and I didn't get dugg down for it. I think it has more to do with the person speaking/typing with facts to back up what they say and not parroting for either party. I've seen plenty democratic parrots get buried to hell. I think the majority of digg hates when people tow the party line regardless of the facts on any given topic. Hell, Hillary was massacred front page for campaign finance corruption involving marvel comics a few weeks back. I think at it's core a majority of digg users have a desire to at least struggle toward a Utopian ideal in America which if you agree that we are "the great experiment" then we should as participants of the US be striving for that.
- Coven, on 11/15/2007, -5/+7Most of them except for the Paul-bots (see two comments down from yours)
- jetboyterp, on 11/15/2007, -25/+17Now, why does Dick Cheney even have to be mentioned in a story about birds raised for hunting? What, is Cheney the only hunter in the world?
Oh, wait...he's Republican, and a member of the Bush Administration. And the diggbats foam at the mouth...- uberamd, on 11/15/2007, -8/+10OMG REPUBLICAN, BASH HIM!!!
- MacEnvy, on 11/15/2007, -6/+15Because he partakes in a terrible thing - staged killing for the sake of killing (reminds me of a certain war). I'm a hunter, but my idea of hunting is clearly quite different from Mr. Cheney's. I prefer to let animals roam free and periodically fill my freezer, with great respect to the animal. Mr. Cheney just likes to watch things die.
I guess that's why I find this story intereting.- Bamont, on 11/15/2007, -6/+4I call that splitting hairs. You think a deer grazing and then being gunned down from a stoop in a chair is a "nice" way too die? Get over yourself. Killing is killing, people do it to animals, have for years. The only thing that makes this article digg-worthy is that it begins with "Dick Cheney's.."
- pseudononymist, on 11/15/2007, -2/+1American law tends to factor in motive and method quite a bit when it comes to murder, so why not apply this to the killing of animals? I'm not a hunter and I don't think I ever could do it, but I also don't see anything wrong with hunting for food. It's certainly not any worse than how most of our meat is "processed".

- chijim70, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1I'll agree to a small extent but you gotta admit there is something wrong with this being the way a world leader gets his jollies. Not to mention the worst pr move. - sonnybobiche, on 11/15/2007, -12/+10Okay, but these pheasants didn't go to waste. They were eaten. Did anybody eat meat today? That was kept in a pen for its entire life and then killed too. Do you feel bad about eating it? Do you feel that the person that killed it is a scumbag? Do you think that they should be ashamed of what they do?

- joshuaer, on 11/15/2007, -11/+6The article seemed anti-hunting ya killing tame birds is not fun and i do not do it but hunting is fun and i eat what i kill, for those of you who eat meat and hate hunting or what Dick did well what do you think happens to the chickens and cows you are eating every day. I would not really call what he did hunting it was more like buying stuff to kill rather then buying pre-killed birds in a store that are ready to eat. Now 400+ birds in one day is a little much but still it is more fun then going and buying it in a store!

- MacEnvy, on 11/15/2007, -1/+7It was (relatively) common for the leader of a country to lead his troops into battle, up until the last 200 years or so. At least those leaders were willing to put their own asses on the line for what they believed in, rather than our modern notion of warfare where the wealthy elite sit idly by while poor shmucks partake in the personal vendettas of the president.

- pseudononymist, on 11/15/2007, -1/+7Bubbleboy--this is, actually, not the best criticism we have against Cheney. It's more like... supporting evidence. You know how lawyers sometimes use indirect evidence to paint a picture of their client or the defendant? That's what this is.
