Israel Role Model for US
worldnetdaily.com — Israel has some excellent attributes that the US can, and should emulate. Most importantly, it is the approach towards dealing with Arab/Middle East organizations. Until recently, they've been very effective, at least until Olmert.

- jb1965, on 05/16/2008, -3/+7"If mass immigration continues at current levels, predicts the U.S. Census Bureau, by 2050, approximately 130 million people will have been added to the United States, mostly from the Third World. Embittered Americans may still cling to guns and God, as their founding fathers did, but they will no longer decide elections." -- This is EXACTLY the reaon that RINO's and Liberal Democrats are ramming amnesty down our throats! The RINO needs cheap labor and the Liberal needs cheap votes!
- Bushlied, on 05/16/2008, -5/+5Ya right! Tell that to the Palestinians. Or don't they count as human.
- proveritas, on 05/16/2008, -5/+2There hasn't been peace in the Middle East since Adam and Eve. Israel may be blessed to celebrate 60 years as a country, but as a nation, they are a baby in comparison to the U.S. What should we do - get rid of the Statue of Liberty? This country was founded on freedom from tyranny, a place for hope for those wanted to start new lives. We are a cornucopia of many cultures and those who are fortunate to seek new beginnings, legally, contribute so much to the diversity that makes us the country of choice people long for.
I don't deny we have our problems, but the U.S.A is still the greatest country in the world. Sometimes, it is evident, though, that we forget to live by the Constitution and for that, we are mired in laws that are now taking away so many of our rights as citizens. Yet, compared to the rest of the world, we still find millions flocking to the country because they see us as a beacon of hope. We are the most generous people in the world, not government, the PEOPLE! If we can learn any lesson from Israel, it would be to uphold the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Instead of growing government, we need to limit government in our lives and that is they greatest challenge that I feel we face as a nation. Happy Birthday, Israel! - gunjam, on 05/16/2008, -5/+6As usual, (the charming and brilliant) Ms. Mercer demonstrates her uncanny ability to look at issues -- especially, issues others shy away from -- from a unique perspective. In this piece, she touches on the issue of demographics. Two other major voices on this issue are Michael Savage ("Borders, language, culture") and Mark Steyn ("It's the Demographics, Stupid).
- Kizilbash, on 05/16/2008, -7/+3Specifically Israel is very good at bombing Arabs, shooting Arabs, torturing Arabs, keeping Arabs under curfew, ethnic cleansing of Arabs, building roadblocks, building separation (or in Afrikaans: apartheid) walls on Arab territory etc. Very useful for the US in Iraq.
- ivanvivian, on 05/16/2008, -1/+2You must be a greedy, murdering Arab. What area of land do the Arabs hold? Now, you with an inability, it appears, to reason fairly, what tiny sliver of land does Israel inhabit? With all the land mass, oil wealth and numbers of people, the Arabs have not been able to duplicate the Israeli people's initiative. All the things you accuse of the Israelis of doing, as Arabs you do all to yourselves. Arab kills Arab.
You're totally insane to think you have any credibility in your willful blindness.

- ThoughtfulWi, on 05/16/2008, -1/+4So if we take Ms. Mercer's ideas back 100 years or so ago, I guess access to all those persecuted Russian and other Eastern European Jews should have been denied as well. Or would she have made an exception for them? "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses" doesn't imply conditions. We should welcome those who can fully appreciate what we take for granted, though I do believe in going through the process LEGALLY!
- kisichka, on 05/17/2008, -1/+2As far as i remember arabs comprised about 10% of Israel's population 30 years ago, about 15% 15 years ago and over 20% now. With this kind of dynamics in Israeli demogaphics it is easy to project the arab population being at more than 50% say, 40 or 50 years later. And now is my question to Ms. Mercer: 1) by what means do you propose to change this dynamics, and 2)how can the state maintain it's Jewish identity with the projected majority of the population being non-Jewish?
- yellowcakewalk, on 05/17/2008, -2/+1Yes, there's a lot to learn from Israel. We Americans could learn that we should pretend to be friends with a much larger and more powerful nation, convince them that our interests are the same, and soak them for billions and billions of dollars. We could use these billions of dollars to further bribe, cajole, and threaten the politicians of the larger country, and still have enough to periodically drop clusterbombs on women and children. Thanks, Israel, we will follow your role model.
