Jessica Lynch tells the truth, debunks Government's spin on her service

- sonofdy1, on 10/12/2007, -105/+8What exactly is the point of this investigation?
- anj747, on 10/12/2007, -13/+85The point is to illuminate one of the numerous lies told by this government in their "war on terror". In the UK we call it BLIES (after Tony BLIAR). She herself has shown dismay at the way the US military spun her story to make her a "Little Girl Rambo". Stories of her bravely fighting off enemies until she ran out of ammo were BLIES (her rifle jammed and she didn't fire a shot), the stories of her being abused whilst in an Iraqi hospital were BLIES (in fact she claims the iraqi nurses took good care of her and tried to get her back to safety with the US army).
http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,,2064617,00.html?gusrc=rss&feed=1 - SpeedoBurrito, on 10/12/2007, -5/+31It is because the government things that we need to be shown what a hero is.
It isn't as if they couldn't tell honest stories about the hundreds of soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country or those who have saved the lives of others, including Iraqi and Afghani families.
It is this confusion and manipulation of fact which has lost the confidence of the American people. If we just had all the facts from the beginning, things would be very different now. - mightydavefish, on 10/12/2007, -10/+58It's about ethics and morals.
You wouldn't understand.
Go back to sleep, we'll wake you the next time the GOP whitewashes an investigation.
Until then, you'll just keep trying to cover up the corruption of President Traitor.
I'm going to let you in on a little secret: no matter how hard you schill for the GOP, no matter how hard you misinform, no matter how loyal you are to a bunch of scumbags, you will still get the same screwing the rest of America gets.
Just out of curiousity, what motivates you to stand up and sell out your integrity for liars?
Obviously they lied about the Lynch situation. So why are you still pushing the *****? - str3ama, on 10/12/2007, -5/+55Lynch stated, concerning the Pentagon: "They used me to symbolize all this stuff. It's wrong. I don't know why they filmed [my rescue] or why they say these things". She also stated "I did not shoot, not a round, nothing. I went down praying to my knees. And that's the last I remember." She reported excellent treatment in Iraq, and that one person in the hospital even sang to her to help her feel at home.
Apparently she wasn't raped, it was sensationalized by the media, and apparently Larry Flynt acquired 'nude' pictures of her but refrained from publishing it because he felt sorry at the fact that "she was used by the government". Absolutely disgusting what the gov't is willing to do to try and garner support. - maf54, on 10/12/2007, -28/+4I WISH this were the point, but from what I have seen, it is just another opportunity for the congressmen to posture for reelection. This could be handled elsewhere. What about the thousands of other deaths?
- dukrous, on 10/12/2007, -30/+4I have two problems with this...I don't know anyone who doesn't know Tillman was killed by friendly fire nor do I know anyone that thought Lynch was some sort of heroic figure. Most of the people I know, like myself, are Bush supporters. So if the truth is already out in the open, what does Congress need to do other than strut about as they usually do?
- gcleaves, on 10/12/2007, -8/+10maf54: "What about the thousands of other deaths?"
I suppose you mean *hundreds of thousands* or even *millions* of other deaths - cyberdork, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Why is this being investigated? Well let's just compare it to a company. If the board of directors would lie to their shareholders just to get their support for crucial business decisions. And after some time it comes out that they actually falsified facts and misled their investors, shouldn't there be a thorough investigation?
- CarpeFishem, on 10/12/2007, -14/+22Why didn't she start the whole "No wait, I'm not a hero" business BEFORE her book deal, TV movie, and Bronze Medal award?
It would give her a bit more credibility if she had refused to be called a hero before cashing in on the title. - member57, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2I Honestly don't know where the lies came from, but I had already heard about her weapon jamming, raped, and helped by the Iraqi medical staff. I don't think that the hero stories came from the government, they did play up the rescue though. I think that the Tillman family is just reaching for straws, if he did die of friendly fire, he joins quite a few great soldiers. War is not a precise thing, even though the military and media sometimes want you to believe that. Mistakes happen in the heat of battle, tragic mistakes sometimes. The real truth may never be known, battles are chaotic things, soldiers hardly remember exact details afterwards, it's called the "fog of war". The Army can't possibly thoroughly investigate every single death in battle, imagine the resources and manpower that would require. Often statements are taken, a inquiry is done, blame assigned if so discovered, move on the the next incident. I'm sure that Pat Tillman understood the dangers of both enemy and friendly fire and accepted those realities, why can't his family?
- Pottersquash, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12your government lied to you, deliberately, if u dont see a problem with this...
- Infowarmachine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@dukros:
ya we all know they are lieing to us! why do we have to talk about how often they lie to us? just cause every damn thing that comes from this adminstration is a complete fabrication .. does that mean we should ever talk about their consistent history of absolute lies? it makes it harder for those of us who want to live in a delusional fantasy land and support our government blindly - Infowarmachine, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13@CarpeFishum
she turned down the book deal.. and she has said ALOT of this before, it just doesnt get much coverage - yakski, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12"Why didn't she start the whole "No wait, I'm not a hero" business BEFORE her book deal, TV movie, and Bronze Medal award?"
Uh, she did immediately start saying that she was not a hero, but nobody in the media listened. They obviously thought she was being modest since the military was painting her as Ms. Rambo. The fact that the did not investigate and report on the truth of what really happened is the issue. The fact that the military lied about what happened is the issue. The military needed propaganda and the media wanted to sell their product, so we got a bunch of lies sold by the media instead of the truth told to the public.
"I think that the Tillman family is just reaching for straws, if he did die of friendly fire, he joins quite a few great soldiers."
No!!!! The military purposefully lied to the family and to the public in an attempt to use his death for propaganda purposes. They knew immediately that he was killed by friendly fire as the testimony yesterday showed. The military however, chose to bury the truth and make up a story about being killed by enemy fire. It was a lie created for the sole purpose of media propaganda. Once again the media ran with it before checking out the facts of the story as they often do. In this case the media is hardly to blame though, since there was no good way to corroborate the facts of the matter. As has been so often the case with this administration, lies were compounded with more lies to shroud the actual truth of the events.
Whether it was a deliberate act of the White House or just due to completely unethical people in the military we probably will never know. The fact of the matter is that these type of lies hurt the very fabric that makes up a democracy. - ColdSnickersBar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13@CarpeFishem
I happened to stumble on this on C-SPAN last night. The members of Congress asked her this very question. She said she said nothing because she was still in the military and she was not given permission to speak to the press at all. As a former Marine, I can verify that it is against lawful orders to make any statements to the press unless you've been given special permission, and that the penalty for speaking to the press without permission ranges from NJP to court martial. She testifies that she was forbidden to speak out (which is very believable to me), and that as soon as she got out of the Army, she took her case to Congress, which is the classic method for a military person to complain about the conduct of flag officers such as generals. - sonofdy1, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3My point is that this story is already well known. Im just not entirely sure what good it does to bring this up again? What is the end goal? So far all i have seen is bashing of the us military?
Is this the end goal of this "investigation"?

Real heroes aren't those who shoot until they run out of bullets then kill a hundred more enemies with their knife before being eventually taken out by a cheap shot. Those are TV Special heroes.

Give me a break, that sounded so Hollywood. I bet she had a knife in her teeth as she tied the bandana around her forehead in slow motion. Then smeared the camo on her face to the tune of Proud to be an American.

TheDSL is a digg account created just to comment on this and the Tillman story. Some little bitch cool-aid drinking wingnut troll who doesn't have the balls to go fight the war they are a "big supporter of" can't post here under their regular account spewing ***** like this.

Doesn't everybody create an account to be able to talk on a certain topic and then continue on from there? I know I did. I watched Digg for a while and read stories until I finally had something to say which I'm guessing many many people do. Did you just randomly type in Digg.com one day and sign up without knowing what it is and then post more than one simultaneous posts? Give TheDSL time I'm sure he will post more. His regular account? Everyone starts somewhere, why can't this just be his first post? Damn.
TheDSL wrote: "While I'm not a big supporter of the war..." Why do you say he is one? - TheDSL, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Sharpspork is correct that I don't have the balls to fight in a war. That's the reason I never signed up to go. Tillman did. So did Lynch. Sharpdorks strong language and hatred for opinions other than his own is very Taliban, very Hitleresque, he might even say very Bush if he didn't know he was reviewing his own immature close minded comments.
Sharpdork is also very clever with the cut and paste as he posted my account link: http://digg.com/users/TheDSL/news/dugg
I encourage all to check it out my account as it is amazing what you will find. I can also be found at usesoap.com. Send me an email from there I will get it and we will laugh about the war and my cushy safe office job.
Sharpcork and many others on this comment page are more focused about the injustice than the true impact that it had. How was anything changed by falsely referring to Lynch and Tillman as heroes? Is itt just that your feelings were hurt? I think they were worng in doing what they did but aside from a small circle of their friends and family this issue does not impact any of us in a meaningful manner. If you want bash the current administration that is wonderful but pick a subject that is weighty and of great impact.
- zengonzo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13The families of the people who died care.
- ne0shell, on 10/12/2007, -14/+4Lynch is going public so she can stay alive - it's not some political agenda. She wasn't anti-neocon until she saw them manipulate what happened to her unit and assign her the heroic acts of a hispanic soldier from her unit who died trying to defend her. The truth is really stranger than fiction on this boys and girls. After her unit returned to the US others who witnessed the true events of that day started dying. One was double-tapped in teh head while grilling by a figure dressed in black w/ a black ski mask who popped over the fence and put two in the soldiers forehead so close together they thought it was one shot and this from about 20 feet. Sounds like a govt hit to me.
Another guy drowned in 2 inches of water next to his car on the side of a dirt road. I think they ruled that one suicide.
The same people who did this are the ones calling people who value liberty "terrorist supporters" and claiming they "support the troops". The people in our govt, both right and left don't give a ***** about our military and would kill every one of them to further whatever agenda they are being paid to push.- Egoist, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Do you have sources/evidence to go with your allegations?

- kahlessreborn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I thought we fixed those damn Jams in Nam. And unless she had a stovepipe happen she should have been able to clear the jam. With the forward assist.
But I really love this an article about spin on digg and in the digg comments we have two news papers 1 American 1 British with two different stories.
UK: "Initial reports also suggested that Ms Lynch had been abused after she came round in the hospital. She said the reports were lies: she had been treated well and the Iraqis had tried to return her to US forces."
http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,,2064617,00.html?gusrc=rss&feed=1
American:"Lynch, then an Army private, was terribly injured when her convoy was ambushed in Iraq. Rescued after being sexually assaulted and treated with sub-standard Iraqi medical care, Lynch's true story became a fabricated history portraying her as a fighting hero, when she admitted on CNN in an interview she never even got a chance to use her weapon."
http://people.monstersandcritics.com/news/article_1295885.php/Jessica_Lynch_debunks_hero_myth_stands_with_Tillmans_family
The US paper debunks the she went down fighting myth but forgets to mention that the Iraqi's DID NOT sexually assault her and actually tried to help her get back to US forces.- member57, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3So the Iraqis treated her well, after attacking and killing everybody else in the convoy? I doubt the "treated well" part.
- ColdSnickersBar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I'm a Marine. The M-16 jams like a *****. It's jammed every time I've had to use it. The immediate action to clear it is usually "tap, rack, bang" which is to say "tap the magazine, rack the charging handle, fire", and it usually works. When it doesn't work, it's a bit more involved to clear the jam. Yeah, it involves the forward assist and all that *****, and it sounds so damn simple when people aren't trying to kill you and an RPG didn't just hit your convoy and you didn't just watch gibs of the guy you were ***** with just moments ago fly across your line of fire. I'm overjoyed that Lynch managed to have the focus to rack the charging handle and try to pull the trigger, especially for a soldier with a non-combat MOS and no previous combat time.
@member57
So, her first-person account of being treated well is a lie? You think she would actually lie and say she was treated well when she was not? You know, you can be an opponent with someone on the battlefield, and then still be human to them once they're neutralized as a threat and in your hospital. - skyfire1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1With all the stories of M16s jamming in the worst time why the ***** are we even using those pieces of *****? Heckler & Koch made a better AR anyway.
- thomasprebble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4There was a story about this tonight on Campbell Live (NZ current events program) where they had both stories, this one and the friendly fire one. - mjw2025, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Some time ago after she was healed and released from the military I heard her interviewed on radio and tv and many times, during the interview, she stated that she wasn't a hero but merely a victim of the conflict.
This isn't news but only a rehash of things she has publicly stated before.- sharpfork, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The new republican line to avoid having anyone look into the ***** they did when there was ZERO congressional oversight: "We have already talked about this. Move along, there is nothing to see here."
They are pulling the same ***** trying to avoid having Condi Rice have to explain how W used the scare Saddam having nukes (Niger yellow cake lies, smear, and cover up- you know the story) to drive the US to war.
Some say the white house investigation into Rove announced yesterday has the same basic idea- present the public with conclusions cooked up by the white house and refuse to go before congress for their investigations saying "We have already talked about this. Following her rescue, **unsubstantiated reports abounded, the media made a variety of assertions**: Jessica Lynch was a pretty teenage girl who had been subjected to the ravages of an unjust war. She had been sent into battle with inadequate equipment and protection. After taking a wrong turn, Iraqis feigning surrender had ambushed her unit. Yet, she bravely fought off the enemy until she could resist no longer. Because of the incompetence of the leadership in Washington, D.C., she had been taken prisoner by evil Iraqis who did unspeakable things to her.
This was the type of story that had "legs." Every news producer in America salivated when they read the first copy. They knew that their ratings would skyrocket when the story of this fragile American girl was told. This was the type of story that would go down in history. **There was only one problem--most of the story the media was hyping wasn't true.**
It seems to me that Congressman Waxman and his committee should be investigating how the media perverted the story to build its ratings. It is appalling how little regard some of today's journalists have for the truth. CENTCOM immediately announced Jessica's rescue. It was good news. But, it was the American media that ran the 15-second video of her rescue over and over and over and over again. It was the American media that turned her rescue into a propaganda event. It was the American media that lied and made false statements about her and what happened, NOT anyone from the military or government. And they did it for the worst of reasons.- yakski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You seem to be pretending that the military did not present her as little girl Rambo. They certainly put out enough lies out there for the media to swallow. The fact that the media ran with it is not so surprising. Its the competitive nature of the business. The media is definitely culpable, but so was the military that pumped up the facts. There were no good guys in this story, except for Jessica Lynch and the Tillman family who were intent on making sure the truth reached the surface. It is a shame that the media jumped on the war wagon, but what can you expect when the current administration made and continues to make accusations about treason if you dare to not support their position.
- terafied, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Where do you think media get their info?
- ColdSnickersBar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If the military tells the media that something amazing and great happened, and the media rightfully parades it because they were told by the US leadership that something great really happened, how is this the media's fault? They only reported what was revealed to them, and what was revealed to them, however untrue, happened to be an epic story. They can fact check, but only so far.
- oldhat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I read that the military delayed the "rescue" for a day while they got the video cameras ready to go...and they had to convince the Iraqis to leave the hospital so their stupid propaganda story didn't get screwed up by another fire fight. - riverside71, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10It's 'News' today.. back when it happened and the alternate media called it all a sham they were labelled conspiracy theorists like always..
ah well.. reality is a conspiracy theory to all who just can't handle the truth - BohicaTwentyTwo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2I'm sorry, as far as Lynch is concerned, the government didn't tell any lies. CENTCOM released the facts as they knew them. It was the media that hyped up the story.
As far as heroes are concerned PFC Patrick Miller won the silver star for his bravery.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Miller_%28soldier%29- terafied, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3CENTCOM released the facts as they knew them?
So ... when the allegedly renegade media ran with these wildly hyped stories, they were not corrected by the feds ... WHY?? - BohicaTwentyTwo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Because its not their job.
- michaelb1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That guy was a bad ass. he sniped the enemy that was about to drop some mortar rounds on US troops.
Then he was captured and lied to them about US radio freqs.

"Some time ago after she was healed and released from the military I heard her interviewed on radio and tv and many times, during the interview, she stated that she wasn't a hero but merely a victim of the conflict.
This isn't news but only a rehash of things she has publicly stated before."
No, you just dont want it to be news. The fact that YOUR KIND treated this war like a marketing campaign for a lemonade stand, and MURDER TOTURE and LIE to do it...while its not news to you, cuz you already know these things....THE MEDIA SHOULD DRIVE THAT ***** INTO YOUR HEADS, the same way you LYING ***** scumbag drive in the Terrorist Fear Mongering.
later in the news NWO NUKES AMERICA and blames it on....wait for it...Counterstrike.
many people will go on supporting these kind of "people" because they dont have the integrity to admit they were lied to, and conned...so, instead of being honest, they hate Sean Penn more than they love their country. Its pretty simple really...Bush(which encompasses both sides secretly) supporters would murder their entire families before they would give a damn about their Crimes.
Jessicas rape was probably just a FETISH playing in the minds of Karl Rove, Bill Oreilly and Sean Hannity....but guess what people....I hope you all heard or read what Jessica said...she dropped to her knees and prayed to Jesus.
I bet that has to PISS YOU NWO ZIONIST ***** OFF HMMMMM? - geor, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2As Winston Churchill said, "If you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed, if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not so costly, you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance for survival. There may be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves."
- chicofaraby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Are you saying that Iraq was trying to enslave Americans?
Seriously? - exec721, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yeah, but see... You have to get attacked first.
- ColdSnickersBar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what are you going on about?
- chicofaraby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Are you saying that Iraq was trying to enslave Americans?
- snotrokit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yet another vote for the colonization of another planet, because this one is hosed.
- billfisher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So I have a question for everyone, what has happened to responsible journalism ... why is the truth about Tillman's death only coming out because he family hasn't stopped pushing ... Where are the "Deep Throats" of our era? Does our media only tell us what the govt wants us to hear? I think we know the answer to this ... I believe as a proud American citizen we are being let down, by the govt and the media, to pave the way for special interests' needs.
At what point do we all take a stand .. or better yet whom do we take a stand against? - spacyt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Notice how this isn't really in the main stream news.... but Alec Baldwin is spread over the headlines... SICK SICK SICK
- jtizzle, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I'm surprised I've scrolled down this far and haven't seen any "I'd hit it." comments yet...
- michaelb1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that goes without saying.

- UNITDWERFALING, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0YES more Ball Bearing brave souls.
- ladawncp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Nothing has changed. Flags of our Fathers is a film highlighting the spin around the raising of the American flag on Iwo Jima. The government spun that story and left some soldiers out and put in some that didn't belong there. One of the jobs of the media is to uncover these stories and bring them to the attention to the public. That's why I was so dismayed when the press seemed to be eating out of hand out of the current administration. Let's hope that shameful fad has ended and the truth behind the spin is told.
- techweenie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11The first casualty of war is the truth.
- michaelb1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I thought it was innocence.
- xdream, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No, not innocence, but innocent civilians.

Thanks for bringing up the Larry Flynt thing.
Politicians on both sides of the aisle, listen up. When you're being outclassed by a renowned pornographer, a man who features women being ground in a meat grinder, it's time to step back and take a hard look at yourself. Why don't you take a trip down to the Vietnam Wall and do some thinking? Read a few of the names and think about where those young men would be today. Next time an Army Chaplain has to go explain to a mother that her son is coming home in a box, go with him. Take a look at the real face of the war and stop whoring out people like Jessica Lynch for a few more votes. 20 years from now there's inevitably going to be an Iraq Wall somewhere in Washington. Right now you've got real power to determine how many slabs of granite are going to be required to build it. Choose wisely. - michaelb1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does any of it really matter? The bees are gone.
We only have 4 years of human existence left according to Einstein*.
* Einstein may or may not have actually said this. http://rocketboom.wikia.com/wiki/Bee - xdream, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0When did Jessica Lynch get so hot? damn son...
