Joe Biden Calls Bush Comments Bullsh*t
politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com — Democrat Joe Biden called President Bush ’s comments accusing Sen. Barack Obama and other Democrats of wanting to appease terrorists "bulls–t” and said if the president disagrees so strongly with the idea of talking to Iran then he needs to fire his secretaries of State and Defense, both of whom have pushed to sit down with the Iranians.

There are other nations and nationalities I'll defend equally fervently, we must acknowledge thei strengths, their weaknesses, their plights and their transgressions. When we stop looking at any people-group as living, breathing, bleeding people we start demonizing them or elevating them to Pope-like status. - ElAssoWipo, on 05/16/2008, -2/+8"I defend Israel because people like Ahmadinejad attack it."
Holocaust =/= Israel =/= jews.
Israel is based on the notion of homeland. Same notion that led to the genocide of jews in Germany.
And what if Christians decided that Israel is the land of Jesus and that's the homeland of christians?
The homeland principle is inherently flawed, it's also racist. - reeder, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Your argument is extremely simple and extremely wrong, if only for the simple fact that Israel doesn't act in a vacuum. That's the very definition of a lie by omission.
More to the point, I am sick of people screaming their side of the argument, never once listening to the other side. All you have done is added to the problem by being an irrational, hate-filled zealot ranting in absolutes.
Deal with things as they are, not as they were. Failure to do so is the root of all human misery.

- UTKevdawg, on 05/16/2008, -9/+12Tough call, I don't like Obama's plan on taxation especially on capitol gains and while I definitely think health care has to be reformed both his and Hilary's plans are terrible and would put too much strain on taxpayers. Windfall profits for Gas didn't work for Carter and they certainly won't work now. I keep hearing Obama is the change but I just see same 'ol same 'ol rhetoric from him. Biden would make me look a lot closer though. Give me a guy who will seriously look at the Fair Tax and cares about issues like Darfur and Uganda and you have me sold regardless of party.
- treehugger87, on 05/16/2008, -4/+17Yeah, cause anyone who's not a millionaire is going to be devastated by the capital gains tax. I would gladly pay another $5000 a year in taxes so I would not longer have to pay $15000 a year for medical insurance and expenses.
We may not need to charge the oil companies windfall taxes if we can take them off the very expensive corporate welfare they are on. - UTKevdawg, on 05/16/2008, -5/+7The Capitol gains tax is all about investing which keeps our economy chugging. It is not about just taxing the rich. Capitol gains tax discourages investing at every income level which would devastate the market and that market sustains your 401K, IRA, and any other potential plan you have for your or your children's future.
- quomen, on 05/16/2008, -5/+7You guys are being a-holes after UTKevdawg gives an honest and detailed answer to a question? I'm not a millionaire either, but I can't support Obama's increase on the capital gains tax. Not all investors work on Wall Street. You do know that many of those in the upper tax brackets are the ones who employ you right now? 90% of the employees in the nation are hired by small businesses, many whose owners belong in that upper bracket. Increasing the tax burden on them does trickle down and affects the whole market.
- dforty3, on 05/16/2008, -3/+6It's just amazing how the country survived with 35% Capital gains tax in the past. Raising taxes for the wealthy is the only way to get out of the huge debt this administration has put us in. Either that or just let the debt pile up exponentially over years and pass the bill to our children and their children. What is it the republicans like to say? Oh yeah... Freedom isn't free.
- quomen, on 05/16/2008, -4/+5The Government shouldn't tax the people and make them pay for their mistakes. When you have a mistake you correct it. In the current state the mistake is the war, so we stop the war. Cut spending, not increase taxes.
- dforty3, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3The Government is the people. Hence "We the People..." The people we elected represent us and we live and die by their policies. The multi trillion dollar debt won't go away if we just stop spending today. If we don't change the people in office and change the policies that put us here, we will just continue to spiral into a 3rd world country status with the value of the dollar continuing to descend. We have to pay for our mistakes. And that includes the wealthy that have disproportionately benefitted from the corporate welfare they have enjoyed over the last several years.
Additionally, in response to your trickle down comment. Providing tax cuts to the people at the bottom who spend all of their disposable income has a greater impact on the economy than giving tax cuts to corporations who are under no obligation to spread the wealth and cut costs of goods. It just adds to their profit. It doesn't necessarily mean they will hire more people if they don't have to. - richlizard24, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Also remember that Obama's policies have to pass Congress. Obama can say whatever he wants about his tax and health care plans, but if they don't pass Congress they don't exist.
- Seemefearme, on 05/16/2008, -2/+6UTKevdawg gave his very honest straight forward opinion with no degrading remarks about anyone and still got dugg down because the Obama fanbase can't take a single negative remark about him.
You were/are a Republican, UTKevdawg, and I am not, but today I felt more on your side than anyone. Thanks for the constructive comments, people like you make Digg intriguing to read. - omgbanana, on 05/16/2008, -2/+2I don't want to be a dick, but I have trouble taking your arguments concerning capital gains seriously when you can't spell the phrase correctly.
And who, exactly, is on the Republican ticket that will fix the taxing and spending issue? - friday1970, on 05/16/2008, -1/+1dforty3, yep, let punish those corporate execs. Let's make them poor. Lets give the goverment all their money. Because it government that knows best what to do with it, right?
And once these corporate execs have no money left, let's leave our jobs since they can't pay us anyways, right? We'll just find a job from another corporation. What? All corporations are now poor and not hiring?
dforty3, I don't know about you, but I've never been hired by someone poor. - UTKevdawg, on 05/16/2008, -1/+4Oh my gosh! A spelling error must mean I am some sort of yokel that doesn't know anything. It probably had nothing to do with the fact that I was at work and typing it up and did not check back through it. Before you say something like that, try to think if you would like people to discount your opinions because of a simple mis-spelling, stutter, or other tiny error.
I never claimed someone like McCain was going to resolve the taxing and spending issue. I think the Fair Tax (please before discounting it, actually take the time and energy to read the plan and its rebuttals. I had to be sold on it) is going to go a long to fixing the taxation problem putting responsibility in the hands of the people. As for spending, the Representatives we elect need be more responsible and stop wasteful spending on both sides. - dforty3, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1Friday1970... Why is it punishment for corporations who can afford the taxes but not punishment for the working class who cannot afford them? I'm not anti-corporate. The Capital Gains tax has been as high as 70% in the past and it didn't put them in the poor house. The ***** Reagan style trickle down economics is corporate welfare. Corporations don't hire more people or lower the price of goods because we give them tax breaks. The Market determines those things. Nike never lowered their prices when they moved their manufacturing to China. If the Market will bare $130 for a pair sneakers, while they pay Chinese workers $1 a day to churn them out, they still charge that much for them. We've had to go into a trillion dollar debt to pay for this war and Bush's tax breaks. The value of the dollar has dropped to about 60% of what it was when they took over 7 years ago. The globalist corporate policies of the neocons (and many corporate Democrats too) have been deteriorating the economic stability of our country and they have fooled the working class into supporting their own demise. Giving tax breaks to the spending class instead of the investing class will allow for a trickle up economy and eventually get that money to your corporate heros anyway, and improve the welfare of all.
Just put down the Fox News and conservative talk radio and walk away slowly. It's not too late for you. You can think for yourself again if you try.

In a democracy where the majority vote wins, "mob rules" isn't really the right idea here. In order for anyone to gain any political ground, one has to play the popularity game or you'll never get anywhere.

- yojiffyskippy, on 05/16/2008, -1/+2Yep, neither party has a lock on BS. That's why voters these days don't give a *****. The only people that bother to vote are partisan fanatics from both the far Left and Right.
- Vlatro, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Warning: this response strays off-topic.
Part of the problem there is the idea of compromise in both parties. While I lean to the very far right, I do have some ideals that are embraced by the left. Both sides are pandering to this imaginary "moderate" segment of the vote. They would consider me a moderate because I hold ideals from both sides. Weighed alone, anyone of the principals I stand for would make me a radical on either side, so there little hope of me getting what I want from any compromise. While I've yet to put much faith in libertarianism, it is becoming more appealing. While democrats and republicans argue about how the government should act in each situation, who's asking "should the government act"? We aren't voting FOR anyone these days, we're all voting AGAINST someone. It's not a matter of choosing the best candidate for the job, but electing by default the one we think is least likely to ***** up the country. But as both sides have extended the power of government, which now reaches into every industry, educational institution, and home in the U.S., *****-ups are a certainty, no matter the official elected. The only solution is to get the government out of our lives as much as possible, and no politician will actively work to diminish the power of their own office. My advice: start buying ammo.
- Vlatro, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Warning: this response strays off-topic.
- sodade, on 05/16/2008, -0/+4You are both right.
- Vlatro, on 05/16/2008, -4/+4I am a conservative (not republican, most true conservatives jumped ship on the party). I think both sides are full of *****. Some people here seem to be confusing "talk" with "negotiate". I'm completely open to listening to Iran's point of view and then telling them what we are going to do. Making concessions to them is out of the question, we have the upper hand economically, militarily and have many more allies who aren't very happy with Iran. We're holding all the cards, their posturing means nothing. If that posturing escalates into action, we need to respond with action. I don't give a damn about the people of Iran, and they can suffer their consequences of their own government. It's not my problem. When they institutionalize an anti-American campaign, blaming us for their failings as a civilized nation, and the government of Iran incites terror groups to take up arms against us... That makes them an enemy. We have many of the same political, social and moral differences in regards to Turkey and the UAE, but they, for the most part, choose not to screw with us. We leave them alone, they leave us alone, and when we do interact it's typically mutually beneficial. I'd love to see Iran move in that direction. Short of a complete overthrow of their government, I don't see it happening. The responsibility of overthrowing such a government falls to the Iranian people, not us. We should back off and let them handle it. However, if the people don't handle it, we need to at least be prepared to protect our own interests. To do that we can't keep compromising in the short term and establishing a precedent that leads them to believe they can openly oppose us.
I think my political philosophy can be summed up with a simple lyrical quote:
Better to live as king of beasts
Than as a lamb scared and weak- sodade, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2"blaming us for their failings as a civilized nation"

"Can a microscopic tag be implanted in a person's body to track his every movement? There's actual discussion about that. You will rule on that -- mark my words -- before your tenure is over." -- Sen. Joseph Biden, to Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, Sept. 2005.- nblsavage, on 05/16/2008, -0/+9You never hear of RFID?
- frankingeneral, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1That's funny, I never heard that quote before. Who remembers the time when Biden told an Indian man that in Delaware "you can't go into a Dunkin' Donuts or a 7-11 unless you have a slight Indian accent." That was an all time high for Joe, I still love the man, and I had the pleasure of meeting him.

- MrTito, on 05/16/2008, -9/+39This is like "don't ***** with the Dems" day. Biden literally called "*****" on the President. And the gem of John Conyers on Rove:
"We're closing in on Rove. Someone's got to kick his ass... We'll do what any self-respecting committee would do. We'd hold him in contempt. Either that or go and have him arrested."
Did someone give the Democrats a stim pack? Please, keep it up.- FecalHurler, on 05/16/2008, -0/+5Psh. They'd lose 25% of their HP. They better have medics with them.

- Scottievm, on 05/16/2008, -7/+34Screw VP, Biden should get Secretary of State. He's the most qualified high-profile Democrat for the job.
- MacEnvy, on 05/16/2008, -1/+7Either him or Richardson. To be honest, Richardson has better diplomatic skills. Biden has more legislative experience.
- Scottievm, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1I'm thinking Richardson will be offered the vice-presidency though, especially with Obama as the nominee.
- da_bradler, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1I don't know, the democrats are big pussies when it comes to presidential stuff. I mean they could have tore Bush up in the last election, all kerry would have had to say is "Do you really want this incompetent man who has failed to capture Osama Bin Laden and instead of focusing his efforts on eliminating the people who attacked us has dragged us into another unjust war with no end in sight?" bam landside victory, but they never said anything close to that because the big player democrats refuse to call bush on his *****.

- methos75, on 05/16/2008, -28/+5This story is still funny for one reason. it just shows how guilty the dems feel. Bush never stated any political party or person in his speech, hell none were even implied. yet first the Obama camp and now the Dems as a whole are in titters that Bush supposely meant them, if the cems feel so guilty, the question is what are they hiding.
- yojiffyskippy, on 05/16/2008, -9/+3So true. I thought he was talking about Jimmy Carter. The truth is, you can't tell which Democrat he was talking about because they all so eager to appease others at the expense of their mother country.
- goomba323, on 05/16/2008, -1/+5You're retarded if you think he wasn't referring to Obama/the Democrats. White House officials have basically confirmed that he was alluding to Obama and the Democrats. You having the same stance as Dana Perino ("oh, he wasn't talking about Obama, you just have a guilty conscience"...o rly????) doesn't really help your credibility (sad how these days you AREN'T credible if your the White House press secretary).
Even if it wasn't directed at Obama specifically, it was still a shot at the Dems, which is political treason if I've ever seen it (basically telling Israel if the Democrats are elected, then you're *****...which couldn't be farther from the truth....in fact, it's probably more accurate the other way around).
So please, shut up, no one's buying the "he didn't mention Obama by name" schpeal, that was done purposefully for exactly that reason...you...are...a....baaaaah- methos75, on 05/17/2008, -1/+0Your also a Sheep for falling into the whole "Bush is wrong" Left road, Do not think your above everyone when you are also the living definition of a sheep buddy.

- yojiffyskippy, on 05/16/2008, -1/+1So true. It's all hot air being spewed around the corridors of congress. The truth is that the Dems don't have the balls or the legal stance to impeach or indict anyone. Otherwise, they would have already done it. What are they waiting on a super-majority so they don't need a legal stance?
- Apocrypha, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Too bad it takes more than one guy to do that.
- sa9e, on 05/16/2008, -20/+9Joe Biden is a known plagiarist, and he voted to authorize war in Iraq in 1991, in 1998, and in 2003. He also didn't win his home state. He would be a lousy VP for Obama.
The fact that so many of you are so excited that he said "*****" is a really pathetic statement. - frankingeneral, on 05/16/2008, -6/+8Biden is a phenomenal man. He always calls it like he sees it. If not for a few racial gaffes, and the fact that he's from Delaware, he woulda made a great President.
- deadlyrice, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Hey man! What's wrong with Delaware??
- frankingeneral, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Nothing, I went to school there, and I'm seriously considering moving back when I'm done with law school. It's just a problem that he doesn't get as much publicity as other Senators despite his high standing in the Senate.
- empirefalling, on 05/16/2008, -10/+8The entire US administration currently holding American citizens captive is very full of bovine excrement. The US is powerless at pursuing any type of argument against any country or assemblage.
It can not be considered a sustainable society. The defeat of the US military in Afghanistan and Iraq has placed the last proverbial nail in the casket of the US as a World Power. As America withdraws from the World Body and International Business, Israel will soon find itself without the dollar. With no military backing, with no allies, Israel will be forced to remove itself from Palestinian territory. The US and Israel have become isolated, unnecessary and a burden to the rest of the World Body . Detested and regarded as primitive and mildly retarded in World affairs, America will have to change or become nothing more than an historical oddity. Countries such as Iran are progressively engaged in dialog and benevolence with other nations. Americans could learn from the Iranians on how to conduct themselves.- VengeanceNight, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3Wow...that's an interesting dream world that you've created for yourself. Israel...***** THAT COUNTRY.- hivoltage815, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1You are freaking sick! - Troika37, on 05/16/2008, -10/+14Barack Obama claims he's not an appeaser. But when President Bush attacked those who "seem to believe we should negotiate with terrorists," why was the senator sure he was talking about him?
- Fullvinyl, on 05/16/2008, -3/+4Maybe because he favors talking with the leaders of Iran and Cuba without preconditions? Diplomacy is not appeasement...or maybe it is now. Bush has trouble with words and their meanings, and apparently, that trouble has spread to his sycophants and apologists as well.
- keymanjim2, on 05/16/2008, -4/+5Guilty conscience. It’s the only kind of conscience democrats have.
- FredFredrickson, on 05/16/2008, -1/+1Well I don't think I'm an *****, but if someone makes a speech and alludes to the fact that I am, I will defend myself. It's not that complicated.
- Troika37, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1But he never used your name or said anything about you... Why would you volunteer to shoulder that yourself?
- eliot2000, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3You keep using that word, appeaser.
I do not think that it means what you think it means.- Terasiel, on 05/17/2008, -1/+1My name Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.
- VengeanceNight, on 05/16/2008, -5/+4This is really starting to get tiring. One side says something and the other side goes nuts and demands apologies and tells them how over the line they are. Both sides are much more interested in attacking each other than looking at the issues. Definitely not going to be anybody who rises above the mud slinging this year.
- Fullvinyl, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3It's not mudslinging when the truth is being told. ***** forbid we actually try to talk to people instead of trying to blow them up, sight unseen. The "turrists" are nothing like Hitler; he lied, prevaricated, and for the most part, kept his darkest secrets hidden before the war. If "the terrorists" have any saving grace, it's complete, up-front honesty over their intentions, and their demands. As lethal as they are, they are still human beings and are still capable of reason; maybe not immediately, but with diplomacy, they can be brought round. They're not conquerors, despite the talk of a global Islamic state; they just want a fair shake in Palestine and less American hegemony over their affairs. I believe the United States went to war with a superpower using guerrilla tactics for similar reasons, but I could be mistaken.
The Neville Chamberlain reference is all the more sickening with the fact that Bush has tried to make himself over into Winston Churchill throughout his entire presidency. It doesn't quite work when you initiate a war of choice, Mr. President. And I bet half the people agreeing with Bush don't even know who the ***** Neville Chamberlain was.
More to the point, good on Biden for calling Bush on his, well, *****.
Diplomacy != Appeasement - yojiffyskippy, on 05/16/2008, -1/+2Partly true but GW didn't actually "attack" anyone. He just pointed out that "some" people think they can solve the worlds problems by negotiating and appeasing. The truth is, not all problems can be fixed by negotiating or appeasing people. If that were the case, Dr. Phil would be the Secretary of State and we wouldn't need a national defense, penal system or civil court system.
But you are correct that the political arena is filled with "attack" volleys from one side while the other side appears to be aghast and in shock while whining and crying for apologies. And neither side is doing all the "attacking" or whining.
- Fullvinyl, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3It's not mudslinging when the truth is being told. ***** forbid we actually try to talk to people instead of trying to blow them up, sight unseen. - Fullvinyl, on 05/16/2008, -3/+5If he doesn't make VP (and I see that for Edwards myself), then for *****'s sake, put him to good use and make him Secretary of State.
- vexingmodstwo, on 05/16/2008, -2/+5Do you know who you're talking about here? It's Joe Biden. The guy has been in the Senate since before you were born, probably. There's a reason why he hasn't done anything other than be a Senator. He's a windbag who loves to hear himself talk and doesn't actually say anything. Were you even aware that he once ran for President? Or were you still in diapers?
- yojiffyskippy, on 05/16/2008, -1/+3Edwards? Really? Edwards isn't as bad as Hillary but come on. He's not a good choice for Obama. However Edwards did purchase something with his delegates so we'll have to wait to see what he bought.
- nighthwk1, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3Edwards has already said he would not run for VP, "It won't happen."
- da_bradler, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1As much as I like Edwards, given that he didn't even win his own state when he ran VP for Kerry I doubt the democrats would put him on the ticket again. Diplomacy: Obama is the only major candidate who supports tough, direct presidential diplomacy with Iran without preconditions. Now is the time to pressure Iran directly to change their troubling behavior. Obama would offer the Iranian regime a choice. If Iran abandons its nuclear program and support for terrorism, we will offer incentives like membership in the World Trade Organization, economic investments, and a move toward normal diplomatic relations. If Iran continues its troubling behavior, we will step up our economic pressure and political isolation. Seeking this kind of comprehensive settlement with Iran is our best way to make progress.

- markgl, on 05/16/2008, -3/+8i think he's missing the point that if we've already talked with them and gotten no where, where does obama think he is going to take the talks to?
- Apocrypha, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1No, "appeasement" is not valid because, just like James King, you too don't know what you are actually talking about. Obama never once offered to say, give Israel to Iran as long as they promise not to....whatever it is you think they are going to do. He only said he would have talks with them and there is nothing wrong with that in the least. It's the responsible and Intelligent thing to do. But I guess you don't want your country to be seen as reasonable do you? Don't forget Iran has not attacked another country in any of our recent memories. Iraq attacked Iran, not the other way around (prompted by the US I might add) and anything the US gov't says they've done is just words because no credible proof is ever offered otherwise therefore the reasonable and smart thing to do would be to suspend belief barring any actual verifiable evidence of wrong doing.
- Apocrypha, on 05/16/2008, -1/+1The current US gov't is not interested in talking. They never were and they never will be. Therefore, in the light of that truth, just how affective and aggressive do you think they were really being in talks? Not very I would think. Someone with actual motivation to get something done via diplomacy is actually far more like to get positive results. Again, the current US gov't is not capable of ANY REAL diplomatic efforts. They've already proven that over and over again.
So I think it is you who is missing the point.
- Lamadave222, on 05/16/2008, -8/+9Biden is a cow pie. First, Obama's name is not mentioned. Second, appeasement is an appropriate concept to invoke. Should we ask Mr. Obama if he would negotiate with Hamas?
