- Charlotte_Web, on 12/07/2007, -3/+3It's a lie that the NIE was completed a year ago. One of the three main authors of it testified before Congress FOUR MONTHS AGO that Iran was pursuing nuclear weapons. Somewhere in the last four months, he did a complete 180 degree turn.

Also, a number of media outlets, including the left-leaning NY Times and the LA Times, are starting to poke holes in the credibility of the Iran NIE:

You have GOT to be ***** me.
Any links to non-right wing neocon propaganda?
Really? You are trying to use the Weekly Standard and RUSH LIMBAUGH as legitimate news sources?
You are a sad right wing loser, and those are two of the least informed sources on the web.
Don't you have ANY integrity? Or does pointing at unsupported right wing extremism REALLY qualify as debate to you?
You right wing asshats are SO pathetic.- Charlotte_Web, on 12/08/2007, -2/+2No, what qualifies as debate to me is point/counterpoint, using verified sources (which, if you had read the articles, you would have seen that). The first link quotes one of the three co-authors of the Iran NIE testifying before Congress (is that neocon propaganda?). The second references articles from left-of-center newspapers which you would expect to be in full agreement with the Iran NIE, but are not.
Ridicule and name-calling are generally the domain of dimwits who are incapable of reading and critically evaluating sources that may be hostile to their chosen point of view, and then offering up a well thought out response.

- williamdyer, on 12/08/2007, -1/+1Charlotte, it's game over for the neocons and the Israel lobby. And both deserve it. They have ***** with our country, wrecked our currency, wrecked the Republican party, and spend us to the brink of disaster. Israel can ***** figure it out themselves. Without my money.

- IrishJoe, on 12/07/2007, -2/+36Can Joe Klein's lips ever be removed from George W. Bush's ass? I don't think so.
- TopherT, on 12/07/2007, -0/+4Joke would have read better: "I'm sorry Mr. Klein, you'll just have to live that way." "You Mean I have to spend my whole life like this?" "I'm sorry, but yes, surgery simply isn't possible" "Well I guess I'll make the best of it. Hmmm I wonder if there is any way I can make a living by having my head up my ass"
(I substituted for "lips attached to George Bush's ass because it didn't scan well)

# fairness: ability to make judgments free from discrimination or dishonesty
# the quality of being honest and straightforward in attitude and speech
yeah, right - SeethisPass, on 12/07/2007, -3/+18How pathetic does anyone have to be in order to believe that bush should be allowed to finish his term?
- caferrell, on 12/07/2007, -1/+28A month ago Admiral Fallon from Central Command gave a press conference that was obviously not authorized by the White House and stated clearly that American military forces were in no condition to attack Iran, and that there was no reason to do so. He did this in Cheney's face shortly after Dubya and Cheney were talking about "severe consequences" and WWIII. He cut the floor out from under the two chickenhawks.
Now this NIE comes out of nowhere. There is good reason to be believe that this thing has been around for quite some time. I submit that its release was forced upon the White House. Otherwise this stuff would have leaked out.
This was not a moment of candor, it was a moment when you could see Bush squirm knowing that there is a rebellion going on in his Palace. These two occurrences are a message from the general staff and the intelligence community to Bush and Cheney and those of us who think clearly that the armed forces and the spies are not going to walk down the war road with Dick 'n Dubya again. - TheSwashbuckler, on 12/07/2007, -0/+13That was Joe Klein's "Amazing Moment of Stupidity."
He's had many moments of stupidity, but this one is the most amazing...- spucky, on 12/07/2007, -0/+3How many times can someone be wrong and still get paid to *****. Hell, Freidman is still employed. How many god damn freidman units are we on now? He still gets butt loads of money to make crap up. How do I get this job. If I was as wrong as these people, I would have been fired long ago and I get a fraction of what these people are paid. Crap!

- soot, on 12/07/2007, -1/+9If that's an amazing moment of candor, that really says something about the state of our government.
- brillo2015, on 12/07/2007, -8/+0Wrong - Klein was referrring to the NIE as the moment of candor, not Bush's lies. See http://www.time-blog.com/swampland/2007/12/misinte ...
- strOphe, on 12/07/2007, -0/+5You cannot have a moment of something you do not possess.
- geoffp, on 12/07/2007, -0/+7If by "candor," he means "total denial," then yes, he's right!
- colobikeguy, on 12/07/2007, -0/+1He meant 'can' and 'door' in a contractiong that referenced slangs for 'firing'. Used in a sentence: "I am going to can your ass and show you the door." An amazing moment of candor.
- atarijedi, on 12/07/2007, -0/+4I like the line "He didnt try to postpone it", maybe its me, but I remember reading that the report was ready almost a year ago.
- colobikeguy, on 12/07/2007, -0/+1I am a loser for putting three sucky replies on this thread... but one more: 'he didnt try to postpone it" is a true statement that ignores the fact that it was already postponed. God, law school is ***** my mind up.... but wait ... alternatively, my mind was already ***** up and I am less ***** up now.. now.. feel free to digg me down.
- TheZorch, on 12/07/2007, -0/+4Bush and Chaney caught in another lie, why am not surprised.
- principle, on 12/07/2007, -0/+4The reason Joe Klein and the rest of the cons are out on the limb is that they know that as long as they say it is not true chances are they will get away with it. If anything, I expect them to press their case for war even harder.
- geekee, on 12/07/2007, -9/+1Only on Digg does a success of the Bush adminstration, i.e. halting the Iranian Nuclear program through tough diplomacy get spun into an attack on the Bush administration. Also, thinking that we're out of the woods with Iran is nuts considering they have industrial capability enrich uranium which can at any time be used to make material for a nuclear bomb. They are alreay in violation of the non-proliferation treaty. Halting the program is good progress, but vilgilence is necessary to make sure they don't revert to their old ways. We saw this in the 90's with N. Korea, and look where they are now (repeating the 90's treaty, which will eventually be broken when they figure out what went wrong).
- blindhammer, on 12/07/2007, -0/+4Apparently the definition of diplomacy these days includes stationing battleships off Iran's coast, expanding sanctions over Iran, engaging in an extensive disinformation campaign in order to justify attacking Iran, refusing to actually talk to Iran and increasing CIA activity. And this isn't even all the covert stuff we don't know about.
This wasn't "tough" diplomacy. There was NO diplomacy at all. And don't forget that Iran ended anything back in 2003, back before anyone was talking about Iran.
Iran isn't a threat to the United States (in the classical sense). It never really was. The administration was looking for an excuse to attack Iran and now they can't, whether it is because Iran doesn't have a nuclear problem or because the United States is so overextended, that we can't. - Kizilbash, on 12/07/2007, -0/+2There is still no proof there ever WAS an Iranian nuclear arms program.

- plato1123, on 12/07/2007, -1/+2I think Joe Klein is feeling like the rest of us... we're so exited Buhsh has admitted we're not going to have WWIII we're willing to ignore how hard Bush tried to make it happen... Lets just all nod and give Bush credit where none is due cuz well millions of innocent lives are spared and Bush is sadly going to have to put up with it... ALL HAIL GEORGE THE PEACEFUL! *snicker*

"Get that teleprompter working again NOW! He's resorting to the TRUTH, dammit!" - lucciinthesky, on 12/07/2007, -9/+1What the hell?
Joe Klein isn't a neocon, nor is he a bush ass kisser, nor is he "some anonymous." I don't think most people who are leaving these comments are familiar with anything he writes.
Why the hell are there so many retarded people on here?- MrESaulved, on 12/07/2007, -0/+7"Joe Klein isn't a neocon"

Anybody but that dick King George... - edebolt, on 12/07/2007, -3/+2jeeze.. keep your pants on... It's just one report. Germany, France, Israel etc aren't buying into the Iran not a threat hypothesis. In intelligence there are always conflicting viewpoints and analysis... The geopolitical questions are never simple binary yes or no answers. The key to intelligence is to keep an open mind and refrain from picking a simple yes or no and shutting down... As issues develop then new information can move bias but don't take a single report just because you have already pre concluded what you want the answer to be....
- vguard, on 12/07/2007, -1/+4How many countries has Iran attacked? How many have we? Who's the real threat to world peace?
- Kizilbash, on 12/07/2007, -1/+3Israel isn't buying.
Talk about an innocent bystander... They are the very reason why Iran would want nukes. Why, oh why does Israel get away with what is supposedly a threat to the world if Iran even thinks about it? coughAIPACcough - williamdyer, on 12/08/2007, -0/+1We should send the bill for the Iraq war to Israel and say "Pay up or we start bombing."
- ragingyul, on 12/07/2007, -0/+4Yeah, considering that NIE was sent back for rewriting numerous times and was sat on by the administration for who knows how long, that's real candor! And Joe knows a thing or two about candor; writing a book anonymously, denying he was the author, lashing out at his accusers, calling them liars, then admitting he was the author. The guy's a total wank.
- ZenMojo, on 12/07/2007, -0/+3If by candor he means "*****," then yes. It was amazing.

- vguard, on 12/07/2007, -0/+2Bush is not the United States or its government. He's just the President, not some demigod emperor. At least, not yet...
