- barblibrarian, on 10/06/2008, -0/+22We can't afford John McCain's philosophy of deregulation. Or, is it already too late?
- mochaman, on 10/06/2008, -0/+21This sounds too familiar and that's because we've been here before! If you look at the direct investment rule during the Keating 5 and the Modern Securities Act of 1999 which led to the sub-prime mortgage meltdown, you will see that in all cases McCain was involved. In spite of having being put through the Keating 5 scandal, McCain never learned his lesson. He is reckless, and erratic not the qualities we need in a leader.

- uncleosbert, on 10/06/2008, -1/+17john mccain received funds from keating, he took policy advice from keating, he and keating were close personal friends. the devil in in the details, and we ignore them at our peril. john mccain was not convicted of any wrongdoing; in fact, this marked the birth of his straight talk express:
"Perhaps the most important tactical decision faced by the five Senators is how much to say in public about the Keating investigation, and when to say it. At one end of the spectrum, Senator McCain has decided upon what his aides describe as a campaign of full disclosure. McCain Speaking Out."

so for years he could have used this insight and experience to benefit taxpayers. and for years, he has clung instead to the idea that deregulation is somehow the answer. we cannot afford to let him keep playing with these rules. it's not enough to talk straight when you're running in the wrong direction. - Olon97, on 10/06/2008, -1/+14The initial version with the audio glitches had close to 500 diggs in 5 hours, with only 1-2 negative comments, but was still buried.

If we want to see this video get the front page attention deserves, everyone will have to help with shouts.- niradg, on 10/06/2008, -1/+2I submitted the initial one as a bug report.
- Olon97, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1Both are buried now. At least the teaser from Sunday and the CNN fact check (true) made front page.
- niradg, on 10/06/2008, -1/+2I submitted the initial one as a bug report.
- tracygav, on 10/06/2008, -0/+8"The current economic crisis demands that we understand John McCain's attitudes about economic oversight and corporate influence in federal regulation. Nothing illustrates the danger of his approach more clearly than his central role in the savings and loan scandal of the late '80s and early '90s." from http://www.keatingeconomics.com/

THIS - miali1020, on 10/07/2008, -1/+3Please digg this video up, it needs more exposure to show the real John McCain
- p9s50W5k4GUD2c6, on 10/07/2008, -0/+5"The Keating scandal is eerily similar to today's credit crisis, where a lack of regulation and cozy relationships between the financial industry and Congress has allowed banks to make risky loans and profit by bending the rules. And in both cases, John McCain's judgment and values have placed him on the wrong side of history."
Interesting to note that the Obama team was ready for the McCain attack. They had this Keating video locked and loaded into their rhetorical rifle.
The public release of the video was today (October 6th). The site was created 2 weeks ago.

Senator McCain - welcome to the Obama AMBUSH! - btschul, on 10/07/2008, -3/+2Obama in 2007: "Sub-prime lending was a good idea". Don't pretend McCain and the evil Republicans are to blame for this. Your candidate has a big hand in it too.
- demicritter, on 10/08/2008, -0/+1Obama is a child.
