- InetRoadkill, on 10/10/2007, -7/+37Maybe. But Rove didn't do this so suddenly unless he was pushed out by a brewing scandal or unless he has gotten a better offer, perhaps from one of the GOP front-runners.
I'm hoping that the congressional hearings have finally struck a nerve and that he's afraid he's going to get nailed.- williamdyer, on 10/10/2007, -5/+4Or he can't handle the bad karma of our coming new new Pearl Harbor.

- obliviousfool, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11My guess is that he's gone off to help steal the 2008 election for some evil bastard like Giuliani or Hillary.
- Mardala, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6my thoughts as well. I think he is far too smart to just feel like "quitting". Its a political strategy. Thats all these people live and breathe. I am guessing it will ease some of the tensions amongst the Republican party and they can distance themselves safely from the Bush regime, but also as InetRoadkill mentions, I am guessing he will be on a GOP ticket, if not this time around, in another 4 years. "Time off for a book" == "Planning his next move"
I think the guy in VP or Pres seat would make this administration not seem so bad. He was already the driver, now imagine him creating his own gov. branch? I mean Hitler was pretty well liked before he became a dictator. Call me whatever you want, but Rove is not someone we want in office ever again.
Which also brings a very good point --- not in office means he can't be impeached. Someone who is impeached cannot run for office. He now saved himself from being impeached.
- williamdyer, on 10/10/2007, -5/+4Or he can't handle the bad karma of our coming new new Pearl Harbor.
- citizenerased42, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Okay, I get it… Bush sucks, Cheney sucks, anyone tied to the current administration sucks…. For the most part, I agree… I think that this administration has misled us into some very shady business (namely the Iraq war)… But is anyone else here tired of the never ending witch hunt that we all seem to be on? I mean, this foray of endless finger pointing is kinda getting old… Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? Im not saying Rove doesn’t “deserve” XYZ punishments for sed ABC crimes, I personally don’t know enough on the situation to have an opinion on him. But does everyone here who’s whining everyday on dig know exactly what Rove did that was illegal?

- wholly2b, on 10/10/2007, -6/+32When has the government moved to make us safe? Is THAT why we're in Iraq?
- thatsmyaibo, on 10/10/2007, -9/+2Iraq was a horrible decision and I wish we would have never gone there. However, I don't feel like I have lost any freedoms and the fact we haven't been attacked again on our own soil shows that we probably are safer at home and are more aware of any suspicious activity. I'll probably get dugg down by all the 14 year olds that think it's cool to hate the government no matter what. But you guys act like adding some cameras to major intersections in major cities is an invasion of privacy. Like government officials are going to masturbate to video of you. It doesn't affect our daily lives at all and will help in crime prevention whether it be a terrorist or local criminals.

You "don't feel like" you've lost any freedoms because it hasn't affected you yet personally so you can't be bothered to get off your ***** couch and pay attention to what is actually going on in the world around you. - swanny89, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1I don't know why people keep blasting the Federal Government over Katrina. He had the chance to take down the #1 boogieman Bin Lauden.........and didn't because it was a "police matter". Chicken ***** BS.
At least Bush has the balls to blow up some of these islamofascist. People like you still don't get it.
As for giving up "freedoms".....go back and look at history. In times of crisis, some freedoms have been taken away, then restored. Lincoln did it,
Roosevelt did it....it isn't the first time, but for a spineless liberal like you, who would rather just bend over and let these islamic nut cases run the
world, I'm glad someone has the balls to let them meet the 72 virgins (I still believe it is Virginians) on OUR terms, not theirs.- gingerbreadcat, on 10/10/2007, -2/+26After all the crimes and unethical things this administration is responsible for, your best defense is the "But but but... - bigturns, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14Yo, p51, come on dude - Clinton, really? You're going to pull Clinton out of your ball cap now? The man get's a BJ, in private, from a consenting, female, adult and then lies about it to a bunch of pious and over zealous do-gooders and you would compare his troubles with that of W and his legion of doom? Clinton?
- thatsmyaibo, on 10/10/2007, -11/+1Are you so young that you forgot Clinton was in a similar situation than Bush? He sent troops to fight a war too. Kosovo ring a bell?
And instead of posting again, Shorn, I seriously believe Bin Laden is dead. He was gravely ill 5 years ago and has done nothing to prove that he is even alive except have videos released from years ago. And I don;t have a problem with Clinton. In fact I liked him. But if you are going to bring that up, Clinton was the one that had Bin Laden in his scope but decided not to pull the trigger. So stop with the one sided BS please.
I expect to be dugg down by those that don't peek their heads up from the other side of the fence to see what the rest of the world is like. Stop acting like clones. - bemenaker, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Thatmyaibo, you know those stories about Clinton cancelling raids on OBL are just that, stories, correct? You did see where every military commander involved in that, came out and said, this is a BS lie, Clinton did NOT stop plans to kill OBL.
- bigturns, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4You've made our point for us thatsmyaibo. The atrocities of genocide, by then Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic, were crimes greater in magnitude (numbers were reported, by NATO, to be greater than 500,000 Kosovars missing or dead) than those allegedly perpetrated by the once arms trader buddy of the Reagan/Bush Sr. administration George Bush Sr (Saddam Hussein).
Given this, you would think President Clinton would have committed US troops during the NATO lead ground invasion (which he did not).
As far as Bin Laden's health is concerned: no data exists, to date, which would suggest, either way, his fate. Further the myth about Clinton's administration having Bin Laden in their sights was popularized by the Fox/Hollywood version of events provided by the ABC docudrama, "The Path to 9/11".
The original docudrama contained a false, dramatic scene where former National Security Adviser Sandy Berger refuses to give the order to the CIA to take out bin Laden. According to the bipartisan 9/11 Commission report, this scene never occurred, and several members of the 9/11 Commission criticized the scene. The conservative writer of the film was forced to acknowledge that the scene was "improvised."
In response to the reasons why you will be dugg down I would guess it may have something to do with grossly misrepresenting the truth? - Somnabot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2thatsmyaibo:
All I read is "You stupid !@#$'s are gonna digg me down because I'm smarter than you. So there."

- rabidbob, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11p51d007, it's you who's spineless. You'd give up what makes the USA great because you are afraid of zomgtehterr0rstz!!one! The brave stand up and know that if they let our freedom be taken from us then those who are attacking us have won; thus Mr Jefferson's comment that those who'd sacrifice freedom for security deserve neither.
As far as Clinton's choice regarding bin laden goes, well, it's amusing that fascists like you vilify him for not assassinating someone.
We didn't kill him randomly without a trial - that's what makes us better than them. Well, it used to be what made us better than them. Now days there's not really a lot of difference. - bemenaker, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Hmm, W has been "after" bin laden directly for how long now? Get a clue.
- gingerbreadcat, on 10/10/2007, -2/+26After all the crimes and unethical things this administration is responsible for, your best defense is the "But but but... Clinton!" line. Cute!

- fancypantscz, on 10/10/2007, -22/+207Rove did huge damage to our federal government by making key policy decisions based wholly on political considerations. His win at all costs political strategies gave his party more control than was healthy for the nation and the precedence he set for utterly deprave, vicious, and damaging campaign practices make the future of American democracy look bleak indeed. The massive failures of the Bush presidency (many of which we are only beginning to understand) are a direct result of power hungry men winning office and placing the interests of their party before the good of the nation at every opportunity.
The primary purpose of any administration should be the exercise of good governance and stewardship of the democracy that we the people built. The Bush administration under the direction of Rove was primarily concerned with entrenching his party in positions of power much to the detriment of our highest held democratic principals.
Rove deserves to live the rest of his life suffering the most severe forms pubic shame for the potentially irreparable damage he has done to our nation.- skealoha86, on 10/10/2007, -14/+3i agree, but it was the american people that voted GW into office. twice. even if they were both fixed, the spread was 50% both times.

- Dewhead, on 10/10/2007, -9/+2We have used the electoral system to vote for president . The supreme court found for Bush---end of story.
- fancypantscz, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7I'm not sure about Gore but don't think Kerry would have been any better for our nation than Bush. Kerry is just another career politician that would have done nothing to remove the talons of the Military Industrial Complex from the gut of our congress which is the root cause of our failed foreign policies. I don't think our situation in Iraq would be any different with Kerry's in office. Americans would still be dieing there with no good options on the table.
The only way to beat Rove at winning over an ignorant electorate is to lie cheat and steel better than Rove himself and that would have been even worse for our democracy. We the people of the US are definitely the ones to blame but it has nothing to do with what party you vote for and much more to do with your understanding of civic duty and your responsibility to find common ground with those in your community and then take action in the best interests of the nation.
Forget about our political parties! They have taken advantaged of the average citizens television based misunderstanding of the world to entrench themselves in power provide tax money and legislation friendly to private interests groups. It is not 50% of the population's fault for the travesties of the Bush administration. We all bear responsibility for the political atmosphere that allowed someone like Rove to manipulate his way into power.
- felman87, on 10/10/2007, -5/+27Wrong, we voted for Gore in 2000.
- tranzphat, on 10/10/2007, -5/+15Saying the American People voted for GW is an inaccurate statement. - noahhoward, on 10/10/2007, -10/+4This is the 'faulty' system we have used since 1964. You bitch now because it didn't give the results you wanted. - mrch0mp3rs, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8"Rove did huge damage to our federal government by making key policy decisions based wholly on political considerations."
Sorry to amend this, but WE did the damage. When the election results (debatable as they may be) allow this administration to wield the power, we did it to ourselves. Did I vote Bush and his cronies in? No. But I didn't do a good enough job convincing my peers and neighbors and campaigning for Gore in 2000 or Kerry in 2004.
When we as a nation just let Bush come to power, we did it all to ourselves by being lazy and ignorant. I'm glad Rove is out, but it always has and always will be up to us to clean the mess up.- napalm9295, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Are you kidding me? That is an absurd notion to blame the American people. Bush completely rigged the first election, for starters, and used fear to sway the American vote. The war on terror is a fraudulent war sold to the American people. Fear is the the best means of control (go ask the religious community) In which case everyone has no choice but to say "save us our president". They got more power as a result of 9/11 than they dreamed of, and there's little the American people to oppose. Didn't you hear it'll illegal to protest the war now and undermine their intentions? Yea, more power they have due to terrorism. 9/11 was their blessing. These men need criminal charges posed upon them. They are war criminals, and terrorists.
- queenstarsha, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1i agree that democrats are the only ones who care about fixing the damage, but i don't think we should blame ourselves for our dumb relations voting dubya. that's on their head, and it seems like they're finally learning from their mistakes.
- JBourne55, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2Rove didn't do anything different than Clinton did. I love how principled liberals are now that Bush is in office. Remember the debate on the "rule of law"? I thought character didn't matter. I guess it does when it has to do Republicans.
- Jaybee755, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2What?! Are you on the same planet as the rest of us? "Rove didn't do anything different than Clinton..."?
Are you saying Clinton targeted opposition candidates and slandered them with some of the most evil lies ever concocted in politics? Remember Max Cleland, the triple amputee Vietnam war veteran who was deliberately compared to Osama Bin Laden by Rove & co.? How about the Swift Boat Veterans Against Truth? (We KNOW Rove had something to do with that.) What did Clinton do that was like that? How about the Republican operatives in Maine (or New Hampshire) who were indicted for federal crimes when they interfered with Democratic party efforts to get voters out in the 2004 election by tampering with the Demos phones? The list of Rove's "accomplishments" goes on and on.
I'm no fan of Clinton but I am sick and tired of ignorant right-wingers scapegoating Clinton when most of his alleged offenses are the half-baked creations of the leading wonks of the neo-conservative (fascist) right wing. Open your eyes and stop blindly following the people who are really trying to destroy our country. Stop swallowing hook-line-and-sinker the right-wing propaganda that says liberals are the enemy. They aren't. Rove and his ilk are. Don't take my word for it, either. The proof is out there. - Mardala, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Wow ... I like how when it's brought up this administration is taking the country down a blind path to hell, the reply is always to blame Clinton. Well ... Clinton retired from office years ago. Lets move on. mmmkay? or better yet, lets dig Reagans ghosts from his closet past and start throwing those into the mix. Or maybe Bush Sr.? They surely did some horrible, un-American things.
Clinton is not president! sheesh. and if you want to A/B Clinton, lets start digging out all the facts and do a nice excel spreadsheet comparing these two people. Clinton will never look as bad as Bush, nor did he ever display such disregard for Americans in favor of corporatism, so much that thousands lost their lives.
- Jaybee755, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2What?! Are you on the same planet as the rest of us? "Rove didn't do anything different than Clinton..."?
- JBourne55, on 10/10/2007, -5/+0Is there such a creature as a law and order liberal?
- queenstarsha, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1you mean a martial law liberal? or a wiretap liberal? no. there shouldn't be, and there isn't.
- Mardala, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Is there such a thing as a patriotic American Neo-Con?
and what exactly is a law and order liberal? Is that the new series of Law & Order I missed the pilot of? *dung dung*

sounds.... sexy.- Mardala, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'm sure Cheney will be more than willing to help him suffer. He does like Torture you know.
- skealoha86, on 10/10/2007, -14/+3i agree, but it was the american people that voted GW into office. twice. even if they were both fixed, the spread was 50% both times.

Your sand is cooling again...better hide that head again quick. - Gaki, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Well, Pablo, that seems to be the administration's MO. Pick you up at the airport, jam you into an unlisted CIA flight and presto, chango, you end up in some prison in the former Soviet bloc getting "interrogated" by folks with even fewer scruples than the assholes who put you on the plane in the first place. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. I, for one, would openly volunteer to make Rove "disappear" into some 3rd world hell hole for a few years so he could get a taste of his own medicine. Heck, I'd do the same for virtually everyone in Bush's inner cabal. For Cheney, I wouldn't just do it for free ... *****, I'd PAY someone for the priviledge.
- JBourne55, on 10/10/2007, -4/+0Gaki - Why do you have so much sympathy for terrorists? They are never going to like us.

Everyone in the world knows it! - edzillion, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Did you happen to see the reviews of Alastair Campbells diaries that were recently released? Apparently Alastair claims that Blair was going to resign because he:
"...wanted to be free to act without worrying what the Labour party or public thought of him for the remainder of his second term."
So much for that.
You can take this assertion that he wanted to leave a year ago with the same pinch of salt. Just more political obfustication.
- Yond, on 10/10/2007, -11/+13Unfortunately until he goes to jail as long as he is free, he is dangerous. He's a slippery snake that is still doing his stuff no matter where he is. I hope he gets exposed and goes to jail one day.

- gernblansted, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I'd like to believe that. Most likely, though, the damage has only begun. Think about it. These guys aren't just going to walk away and get prosecuted. If you committed as many crimes as these guys have, and you had in your hands as much power as they do (especially given the bend-over-and-start-f**king-my-ass-PLEASE Democrats in congress), would you just walk away and let the "chips fall where they may"? I think not. Don't expect these guys to roll over. They won't.
- OmarOmar, on 10/10/2007, -10/+43Lol, QUICK LOOK OVER THERE!
This isn't a distraction... - snotrokit, on 10/10/2007, -6/+12now he can dissappear faster when he gets subpoenaed
- ReturnToFreedom, on 10/10/2007, -15/+102Fools. You are all fools for celebrating. He is only doing this because they want to minimize the chance that he'll have to testify before Congress. They know that if this happens they are all *****. They are afraid that a lot of secrets will be leaked in the future and they will have broken the law if they testify and lie. It's my opinion that this is why Bush is keeping people from testifying.
- chiggah, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16Well, when your government can't do ***** about a criminal like this, seeing him get drive out is the best thing common people can hope for. Yeah, it's that sad.
- felman87, on 10/10/2007, -1/+40You can subpoena people whether they're inside the white house or not. Just look at Harriet Myers (she left at the beginning of 07)

- karel747, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6We've already subpoenaed Rove, but it hasn't amounted to anything - executive privilege - that crock of *****. This administration is responsible for the biggest political crimes in the last 10 years, and yet most people will never know/understand what has happened, what is happening, and why these things are happening. It's very infuriating; if only there were some way to buy a 30-minute slot on prime-time TV to really expose these bags of ***** for what they are.
*sigh* The US is so ***** up right now.

- otakushark, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Well, fool, in case you haven't been paying attention, being compelled to testify before Congress doesn't amount to much when the answer to every other question is "I don't recall."

Colorful aside: gROVEbbels, the self-anointed "bush-brain" attempted to earn a mere BA degree at four different universities, failing each time. (Cheney too is a dropout). Moral: there is always hope for flaccid, underachieving and criminally unscrupulous turds in the depleted gene-pool of American politics.- dalexandruz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5cheney got a ba and ma in political science from the university of wyoming. rove dropped out. but who cares they are both evil.

- Gaki, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1@ Kylegoetz
Do you think he got into Yale because of his MARKS? LOL. Yeah, and Bush got into his Ivy League schools because of his, too ... right. That solid C- average he had in prep school was good enough, I guess. - bluehexagonsun, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Spare me the nonsense about the nonpareil academic standards of yale or most ivy league schools for that matter, as they are littered, by and large, with mediocre intellects and nebbishy, "career" academics who tend to earn their "privileged" academic station more by virtue of the vagaries of a favorable socio-economic standing than by dint of any genuine intellectual competence. The fact that Bush, a mildly autistic, dyslexic, post-alcoholic-cerebral-atrophic cretin of a man had his wits about him to satisfy the "rigorous" academic requirements of an institution like yale speaks for itself.
Jacob Plotkin was Cheney's Yale roommate:
"It's hard to flunk out of Yale. It's something that one really has to put effort into. Yale at that time tried to make sure everybody who entered graduated.
Where others might spend some time on the weekend studying, Dick was either talking, drinking or playing cards with his football buddies." - bluehexagonsun, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Spare me the nonsense about the nonpareil academic standards of yale or most ivy league schools for that matter, as they are littered, by and large, with mediocre intellects and nebbishy, "career" academics who tend to earn their "privileged" academic station more by virtue of the vagaries of a favorable socio-economic standing than by dint of any genuine intellectual competence. - davecor, on 10/10/2007, -5/+10Yet another masterful move to keep the spotlight off the current crop of Republican candidates. Here in Iowa the story is that "Don't know" actually beat Mitt Romney in the straw poll this weekend. I haven't seen much about that in the mainstream media. "Don't know" isn't much of a mandate.... and I think the White House threw some bait to get the media to look the other way.
It works every time.... Whenever they do ANYTHING with the right hand, ask yourself what the left hand is doing.
Too bad the media takes the bait every time. Source for "Don't know" http://www.iowaindependent.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=727- Pablo4200, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1You realize that that's about a U of Iowa poll, and that the article was posted on Thursday, 2 days before the Iowa Straw Poll, don't you?
