- miriclaire, on 10/11/2007, -1/+19The definition of terrorism is to cause fear in a population to create a response conducive to being manipulated (like taking rights away). So--who is the BIGGEST TERRORIST but BUSH and his government.
The Revolution is Now! - siszam, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10No more insane than putting war protesters on terrorist watch lists. The government has been out of control for a long time.
- tech42er, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2If out crazy government thinks pot smokers are terrorists, Digg will be labeled a terrorist site.
- miriclaire, on 10/11/2007, -1/+19The definition of terrorism is to cause fear in a population to create a response conducive to being manipulated (like taking rights away). So--who is the BIGGEST TERRORIST but BUSH and his government.

Anyone? Awake yet? Wanna think things through? here........
- Zenex, on 10/11/2007, -2/+33Hardly! If I were a bag of Doritos, I'd totally agree with this article.
- kazamx, on 10/11/2007, -4/+7Well looks like I have been mixed up over this whole terrorism thingy. I thought I was against it. GWB said your either with us or your against us. Well I thought I was with hijm (kinda) but seems I am against him.
OK as I start my life as a terrorist I need to find out a few things. Where do I get a plane from, how do I fly it, and where is this drug fella staying over the next few weeks. He does mealise he has just decided that a huge part of Americans are now terrorists. Get ready guys were all off to Guantanamo for a holiday. YAY - joemofo214, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17THIS IS MADNESS
- jabberwolf, on 10/11/2007, -13/+2THIS IS BLASPHEMY! ....THIS IS SPARTA !
- Miche1987, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Haha, a failed attempt to use an overused meme...now that's funny.
- GliTCH82, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1"Leonidas.. If you take us down now, we'll be forced to land in Ohio!"

- jabberwolf, on 10/11/2007, -13/+2THIS IS BLASPHEMY! ....THIS IS SPARTA !
- Chicken2nite, on 10/11/2007, -6/+4I dugg it, even though I should've buried it as inaccurate. The article makes mention of marijuana GROWERS as terrorists, not marijuana SMOKERS. This is the same argument that the US government has been making since the 2002 Superbowl, that buying illicit drugs support terrorism because of where they come from. Back then, the argument wasn't entirely accurate (the Northern Alliance were the ones growing poppy plants to be made into opium and heroin) but now the Taliban have moved to growing it in order to support their cause apparently. On top of that you also have the local gangs of the inner city who fund their operation with the money they make on drugs. The Wire is really a good show to watch on this whole thing, although they don't really deal with weed. Anyways, it's always nice to think that the government could label you an enemy combatant at any moment. keeps you on your toes, as well as sympathetic to anyone else they might label in such a light.
- tech42er, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Because opium/heroin is marijuana, right?
- bobbyi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1"buying illicit drugs support terrorism because of where they come from. Back then, the argument wasn't entirely accurate (the Northern Alliance were the ones growing poppy plants to be made into opium and heroin) but now the Taliban have moved to growing it in order to support their cause apparently."
So you're saying that the Taliban is in control of Shasta County, CA? Are you sure you read the right article here?
- unibonger, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Wow a Redding paper made it on Digg. Never thought I'd see the day.
But other than that, these guys need to ***** off and get a real job. $300 million to fix? Growing plants? In the ground....yeah sure. That money is DEFINITELY going to eradication of weed.- Glugory, on 10/11/2007, -8/+1You're an idiot. These ***** kill anyone who come near their pot farms. I know a guy who was in a rescue helicopter flying over one that was on fire once. The owner of the pot farm was so happy that someone came to save his life that he shot at the helicopter with a submachine gun. These people need to be stopped EVEN IF you think marijuana should be legal. They kill people and you're just burying your head in the sand if you think otherwise.
- CMOSLogic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3That's what happens when you act draconian. Draconian comes right back at ya.
And if pot growers start being charged as terrorists rest assured: something draconian is gonna happen - logic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Do you suppose he'd have been out there defending his clandestine garden with automatic weapons if marijuana were legal and there were no more black market demand for it than there is for say, radishes? Go find me the number of innocent victims killed each year because they accidentally stumbled upon a moonshine operation on their little hike through the woods. Prohibition kills people and you're just burying your head in the sand if you think otherwise.
- tech42er, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1And then find the number of victims who were killed by our newly militarized SWAT teams and police departments across the country for possessing a small amount of marijuana. Check out this interactive raid map: http://www.cato.org/raidmap/
- CMOSLogic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3That's what happens when you act draconian. Draconian comes right back at ya.

- Fuline, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7well, yeah..
There's two things that I hope to see in my lifetime
1. The war on drugs ends
2. The war on terror ends
And not because they were 'won' but because we finally realized they can't be won.- tech42er, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1In my lifetime (and hopefully yours), I think marijuana will no longer be demonized and industrial hemp will come into its own for ropes and clothing, possibly even used as a fuel. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) will be seen as a mild drug; its legality and recreational use will be similar to alcohol or caffeine.
- Bluntman4000, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Don't buy into the DEA. They fund violence and terror!!!!!!
- redtaboo, on 10/11/2007, -3/+19I know ....... our government gone WILD
- thenativeraver, on 10/11/2007, -4/+115I knew this would happen.
Next thing you know speeders and people attending house parties are going to be labelled as terrorists.- redtaboo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21the threat level just keeps going up!
- InferiorWang, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10get ready for the ineffective "surge"
- bluejet, on 10/11/2007, -1/+27Pretty soon we will all be terrorists. Free thinkers will be the worst kind of terrorist in the eyes of Republican party.
- Modulo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14will?
- texpundit, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10"Free thinkers will be the worst kind of terrorist in the eyes of politicians, Republican or Democrat."

- TheOther1, on 10/11/2007, -10/+3If you lived next to my idiot, ***** neighbors who have a party 24x7, you'd consider them terrorists too. Still blaring the stereo @ 3 AM on a ***** Wednesday. And I'm "harshing their mellow" when I ask them politely to turn it down below 165 db. I swear to God, I can hear fucikin house/trance music at any given moment emanating from their house. I don't see how they ***** sleep at all, I sure as hell can't.
- wattersm, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Call the cops or STFU.
- TheOther1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The cops come out at least 4 times a week. I'm not the only one who complains. I think they just blow the cop that shows up.
- patrickloggins, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Sounds like The Osbournes.
- wattersm, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Call the cops or STFU.
- snapcase, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4When all of your efforts fail, just call them terrorists.
- anewname, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Don't worry. Soma is still legal.
- asdfvidkeasfdl, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2holy ***** digg. i can't believe how retarted all of you people are. ok first of all, has anyone read the ***** article? it's about how marijuana growers are ruining your national parks! they are devestating the wildlife and killing the natural vegetation so they can grow drugs! this article is NOT about how marijuana users are horrible blood sucking zombie fiends. of course this drug czar dude is stupid to suggest that all of these growers are "terrorists", and that by buying drugs your supporting terrorism. but they're in ur parkz, killin ur natur3!!!! don't you care about that?
hey i smoke pot, and i'm all for legalization (if weed was legal this probably wouldn't be happening), but god damn digg, wtf, i can't believe the response to this sensationalist *****. and if i get dugg down, i can't say that i'll have much faith left in you digg nation.

- redtaboo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21the threat level just keeps going up!
- twistaspliff, on 10/11/2007, -11/+258I just finished watching the movie 'Idiocracy', then came on here to see what was new. Found this. Now I'm not sure, but I think I may have been teleported into the movie. ARE YOU F*CKING KIDDING ME!? Now lets see if I have this straight... Cannabis - an all natural plant, that has never caused a single death in all of recorded human history, is also non-addictive, and has thousands of medical and industrial uses, as well as the ability to produce an oil that can be used as fuel, and the most nutritious food on the planet - the growing of this plant makes you a terrorist? Did I miss a memo? Does this mean that growers are going to Gitmo now to be tortured and held without charges or a trial? THIS CRIMINAL GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO GO! WAKE THE ***** UP PEOPLE!
- viciouspoultry, on 10/11/2007, -3/+53Agreed, except for the most nutritious part, we all know Wendy's new Baconator is the most nutritious food on this Earth, anyone who disagrees is a terrorist
- Magillicutti, on 10/11/2007, -3/+14Hell yea.. I saw a commercial for that last night, I had to rewind my Tivo to see them drop those slices of bacon on it just one more time. On a serious note.. how can cannabis be that nutritious as a food?
- Plinkotic, on 10/11/2007, -4/+15I don't know. But it makes brownies a ***** tastier, and damn, sprinkling THC crystals on rice is lovely. There's never enough rice.
- gordeaoux, on 10/11/2007, -7/+2*****? Awesome.
- hobonetweaver, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17Hemp seeds are one of the most protein-complete seeds, or something like that.
Think of it in terms of a "hemp-seed bagel" instead of a "sesame-seed bagel."
I think Gandhi said he could live on 1 hemp-seed a day, and hemp-seed is one of the most nutritive seeds in bird-food mixes.- Bobski, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Except they taste like sh*t. BTW, did you know they pop just like tiny green popcorn kernels?
- mykool, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15The marijuana seed is second only to the Soy Bean, for the highest in protein.
- Modulo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7and unlike the soybean it's actually fit for human consumption. (see, fermenting soy is the only way to make it actually safe for human consumption ... long story.. nevermind.. anyways, do some research, it's a handy excuse to avoid tofu)
- Magillicutti, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Thanks, hobonetweaver and mykool, my question was sincere, and that's pretty interesting stuff. I had no idea.
- aukxsona, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3So I guess all Rastafarians are terrorists since they worship Ganja. Makes me a terrorist because my religion is based on Nature which says the Goddess gave me the right to grow what ever the ***** will grow in my yard. Hmmm...seems like the gov is ramping up to ***** up anyopne NOT brainwashed and Christian enough to suit there purposes. Anyone willing to fight>?
- mytea, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Yay, I'm in
- tech42er, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1They didn't say that actually. All they did was generalize all marijuana growers as terrorists, because some are (understandably) violent. The whole War on Drugs is ridiculous, but the government didn't say anything you think they did.
- Plinkotic, on 10/11/2007, -4/+15I don't know. But it makes brownies a ***** tastier, and damn, sprinkling THC crystals on rice is lovely. There's never enough rice.
- geoff1210, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2i tried it, and it really is a pretty good burger. Well, except for the artery clogging aspect
- tech42er, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Just take nitric oxide.
- patrickloggins, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Careful.... it can sense terror.
- Magillicutti, on 10/11/2007, -3/+14Hell yea.. I saw a commercial for that last night, I had to rewind my Tivo to see them drop those slices of bacon on it just one more time. On a serious note.. how can cannabis be that nutritious as a food?
- dusty311, on 10/11/2007, -1/+22I think if you've seen "Reefer Madness" you know exactly why pot smokers/growers are terrorists...jazz,laughter,munchies....
(sarcasm) - Chicken, on 10/11/2007, -6/+14Why censor *****?
- Ezekiel25:17, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3***** if I know.
- NikoKun, on 10/11/2007, -1/+40"Prohibition will work great injury to the cause of temperance, for it goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law strikes a blow to the very principles upon which our government was founded." - Abraham Lincoln
- thesloth840, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1leave it to Honest Abe to say it better than I ever could.
- strafefire, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15Well...It's because It's got ELECTROLYTES!!!
- texpundit, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8Brawndo's got what plants crave!
- g2g079, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4It's Got Electrolytes.
- willgill, on 10/11/2007, -22/+1Ya had me for awhile. While smoking cannabis hasn't been shown to be detrimental to your health, impairment from the effects obviously is dangerous. While you can debate that it's a gateway drug, the act of using a substance to escape reality is heading down the wrong track. THEN your argument goes way wack. Oil that can be used as fuel... umm ya so can burning your lawn grass or your kid's toys. Most nutritious? Ok.. now put down the doob.
- g30ph, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14Escape reality? It's not LSD. Smoking pot gives an escape from nausea, headaches, tooth aches, depression, anxiety, etc.... and I can get all those remedies without Prozac, Advil, Pepto Bismol, Valium... Marijuana is a gateway to 7-11 for a slurpee. Why would it lead to lighting my lawn on fire and burning kids toys? What kinda crack are YOU smoking?
- aukxsona, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Uh isn't that what psychiatric drugs are used for? Would you rather have a Natural solution or poison chemicals which are not tested for thousands of years. Yes it is nutritious, the Egyptians used it as a food. Also, why do all of you insist it is a gate way drug. I would let my KIDS smoke pot if it were government or temple regulated to be ONLY pot ...ya know without the chemicals dealers put on it. This government is too corrupt to change. When does the violent part of the revolution start so we can get this over with.
- Dweebo777, on 10/11/2007, -7/+0You are correct, sir. It is a gateway drug, to other drugs is what he meant. Also, when you smoke drugs, there is no listing of ingredients on the side when you recieve it is there? Drug dealers put so many unknown ingredients in it that some can actually kill you. Now, YOU guys lay off the drugs.
- aukxsona, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Actually IT ISN'T. I wish they had packs with ingredient lists but since you so hip on that what about cigarettes. They never list their ingredients because those are "trade" secrets. Have you seen the list of ingredients for you latte from star bucks on the side of the cup? How about clove cigarettes? Incense, you know since you "could" breathe those in. ***** off retard.
- Chicken2nite, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4What about a list of ingredients for Beer? If we're going to start talking gateway drugs, I think that would be pretty close to number one on any list. And to head off any "but it's legal" arguments, who didn't first drink it when they were underage? And how exactly are you arguing against the end of prohibition with the lack of regulation argument? If it were legal, then you could depend on a certain level of oversight and comfort in the knowledge that you're helping to support a large multinational conglomerate rather than God knows who.
- CMOSLogic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2it doesn't need oversight. THE GOVERNMENT NEEDS OVERSIGHT.
There. fixed that for ya
- CMOSLogic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2it doesn't need oversight. THE GOVERNMENT NEEDS OVERSIGHT.

- kazamx, on 10/11/2007, -7/+2Best stoner film ever has to be Half Baked
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120693/
http://www.mininova.org/tor/775429- Scarfy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2We all know you're a cool dude because you know what Half Baked is.
- Dweebo777, on 10/11/2007, -17/+0Actually, you are wrong. There has been a death due to pot. that's the reason it became illegal in the first place. Oh, and not to mention the countless driving deaths that have occured because people were high when driving.
- Bamborzled, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10'Oh, and not to mention the countless driving deaths that have occured because people were drunk when driving."
Fixed it for you. - socokoolaid, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11You are wrong good man, site some facts.
- tech42er, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It's "cite", not "site", but I agree with you.
- andrewrocks, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9No, it became illegal in the first place because it was a nice loophole in singling out Mexican workers and punishing them. Do some research, you'll be surprised.
- kapsar, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2It was partially made illegal because of the oil industry. Hemp oil can also be used as fuel, when it was first made illegal oil had just been discovered and they didn't want any competition. It's a shame because it's by far the most useful plant in existence. As for death by weed, there never has been a reported case. The levels of THC you'd have to smoke to die from weed is something like 20 lbs in an hour. Which you'd die from other causes at that point. The most dangerous drug out there is alcohol. Who doesn't have a story of some one going to the hospital from it. Give me a story where you know some one that over dosed on weed and you thought they were going to die. Just one. You can't.
- Bamborzled, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10'Oh, and not to mention the countless driving deaths that have occured because people were drunk when driving."
- socokoolaid, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7If your growing it in the states, then you ARE the financial endpoint. Obviously that money is going to YOU, not a terrorist. But if your buying pot imported from Mexico (commercial schwag) then you don't know who your money is funding.
- linux69, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6So we must eradicate Mexico of all of the 'terrorists' (Mexicans) ...Right? RIGHT?
- tech42er, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I wouldn't mind eradicating all of the drug cartels. Those guys are terrorists, not because they grow drugs, but because they kill innocents.
- linux69, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6So we must eradicate Mexico of all of the 'terrorists' (Mexicans) ...Right? RIGHT?
- mesmeriffic, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Why do progessive activists always tell me to wake up?
I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!- tech42er, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2We're not gonna take it.
No, we ain't gonna take it.
We're not gonna take it anymore!
We've got rights and freedoms and
There ain't now way we'll lose them.
You can do more than what's allowed.
They try to tell us what to do.
But we'll do what we want to.
Don't need protection from ourselves!
Mercifully stolen from Twisted Sister's "We're not gonna take it".
Original lyrics here: http://www.lyricsondemand.com/onehitwonders/werenotgonnatakeitlyrics.html- patrickloggins, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You used a song intended for 15-year-olds in the 80s and turned it into a political statement. Congrats.
also.... What the hell? "one hit wonders"? Haven't they heard I Wanna Rock?

- Shenanigans, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Idiocracy had a great satirical message, but it could have been such a better movie. Maya Rudolf from SNL as lead actress? COME ON!
- tech42er, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Edit timer ran out, but I got a better version than the one above:
We're not gonna take it.
No, we ain't gonna take it.
We're not gonna take it anymore!
We've got rights and freedoms and
There ain't now way we'll lose them.
DARE tries to restrict what's allowed.
They try to tell us what to do.
But we'll take pot if we want to.
We don't need protection from ourselves!

- twistaspliff, on 10/11/2007, -4/+113I'm not in the USA, so maybe someone can fill me in on this... Is anything being done about this in the USA? Are there mass protests going on against the illegal wars, or this government that now condones torture, etc? Is anyone protesting directly to their government officials to try and stop the madness that is this endless War Of Terror? If any of this is happening, it's not making it on the news we get to see. All the rest of us on the planet just get to be spectators, waiting for the US citizens to do something to stop their government from gettin us all killed. We never voted these people in, so they sure aren't accountable to us. But, seriously, what is it going to take before people say "okay, that's enough of this *****". Or, does that make you a terrorist too? Is everyone so afraid of their government that it is just easier to pretend this nightmare isn't happening, and watch American Idol instead?
- RunawayElf, on 10/11/2007, -5/+36What's your suggestion? Throw stones at their tanks? Or wait, maybe you think Bush would listen to reason if we wrote him. No, there are no mass protests, but there are activist folk out there working to stop the tyranny.
For the average U.S. digg reader I'd assume the point of "enough of this *****" has already been breached. As for the rest of the country, it'll never hit that point. We'll slowly develop into the nanny state that exists over in the U.K. and every soccer mom will be happy that their children are watched at all times.- kazamx, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11Canabis is a class c drug in the UK. If you get caught the police will tell you its bad for you and thats about it. Even if they catch me with a kilo of the good stuff they won't do anything. You still get in trouble for supply but thats about it.
- thatsmyaibo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Diggers like to dramatize everything. If you get caught with marijuana here, chances are they will dispose of it and fine you. I have not had any of my friends arrested for possession unless it is enough to qualify as 'intent to sell'.

- dusty311, on 10/11/2007, -1/+44I remember back right before the war i stood with what seemed like a million other people in DC to protest the coming war...they don't give A ***** about how many people are in the streets...they just hope it turns violent so they can teargas us.
- strOphe, on 10/11/2007, -1/+48The problem is that even if you do protest, the media turns it into *****. I attended the anti-surge protest in Washington with tens of thousands only to find a few two minute blurbs about Sean Penn being an activist--that was pretty much all they had to say about the protest. The media are corrupting our country to the bone; they hold so much influence over the average American and all they do is distract from the important issues, twist factual reality, and focus on pandering partisans and Paris' *****.
- Modulo, on 10/11/2007, -14/+2you have to admit though, they are very nice *****.

- colonelmustard, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17You've got two basic kinds of people - that live anywhere, not just the US: The proactive people, who join rallies, join orginizations, help causes, get really involved, get angry about stuff. Probably a good amount a diggers follow this pattern. Then you've got those people who just don't care, and you can't get them to care. Those ones are the sheep to who their biggest concern are celebrities, and we get all the ***** because there's more of them than us.
- Gerz1219, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15Also, anyone that cares enough about anything to attend a rally is pretty easily dismissed by the media as some crazy-eyed radical extremist, usually because of the way they're dressed. We have names like "moonbat" or "tin foil hat" to marginalize and dismiss their ideas without actually countering their arguments. Most Americans see footage of protests, and breathe a sigh of relief when the camera cuts back to Bill O'Reilly's smirking face -- his baseless smugness is enough to let most people know they don't have to listen to those nutjobs. It's all going to be okay, just stick around past the next commercial break.
- tech42er, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Actually, you have three kinds of people: Activists/organizers, outraged people who just talk online, and sheep. I fall into the second, as do many Diggers.
- NikoKun, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17Well, I've protested any time the rallies were held near enough for me to go to. but it doesn't do much good, they think their law is morally correct and is there to protect us against our will... -_-
It's bad enough, when the media doesn't cover it in the right way... whats worse is that the DEA keeps trying to block protests, they even want to outlaw rallies and meetings involved in marijuana reform...
This country really sucks when it comes to getting things done... We need a LOT more people standing up, and not giving up until things are changed.
I kindof wish every person that supports ending Marijuana prohibition, would finally just get up and march on DC... and STAY THERE protesting until these laws that are a violation of our rights, are removed and prohibition is ended. No minority should have it's rights to do what they want (as long as it doesn't harm anyone else) taken away and labeled criminal... -_-
I'm serious, I am purposing that we ALL get up, and march on Washington DC, and protest this... in a non-stop million man protest... against prohibition. More protests like this are needed... the government needs to fear the people more.- TheOther1, on 10/11/2007, -12/+3First you have to convince them to put down the bong and get off the couch. Then there are no twinkies or cheesy puffs at the rally, so they won't stay. Or they will forget why they are there in the first place.
Besides, don't you think there are bigger issues at the moment? Or is getting stoned the extent of your vision for a better world?- aukxsona, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Bigger than freedom. No way. Who cares what part of freedom we start to fight for...we have to fight for SOMETHING! If it's freedom I AM for it...even if I DON'T get stoned.
- hobonetweaver, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10I think laziness is not what's stopping marijuana smokers, it's probably fear of the government. Most want to remain low-profile, to minimize their chances of getting caught. If you ever talk to a marijuana smoker, they will probably go off for about 20 minutes about how they think it should be legalized, and they feel for the cause. Many will probably continue to remain low-profile until each one of them gets busted - nothing turns a person into an activist faster than getting busted.
And truly, I think marijuana is one of the biggest issues. We are wasting tremendous amounts of money supporting the war on mj, we're throwing harmless people in prisons and letting actual criminals out to make room, we're clogging up our courts and misdirecting law enforcement trying to enforce these laws. And there's nothing to show for it - marijuana supply is not reduced, marijuana demand is not reduced. It is (1) a waste of money, (2) a failed policy, (3) a harmful policy. Any one of those reasons should be enough to end the war on marijuana.
I really just feel that if the prohibition on marijuana was ended, and we regulated marijuana exactly how we regulate liquor, then there would be no criminal growers, no organized crime (not terrorists, for christ's sake), there would be no more marijuana users lives' being ruined by a criminal record, revoked student loans, loss of voting rights, rights to teach, join the peace corps, etc. The war on marijuana is more devastating to the people and this country than marijuana itself is.
What issue do you think is so important that we should completely ignore this one? (btw, your suggestion of focusing on other issues shows that you are, in fact, less determined than a marijuana smoker, and in addition, you're trying to dissuade people from supporting a cause.)
- TheOther1, on 10/11/2007, -12/+3First you have to convince them to put down the bong and get off the couch. Then there are no twinkies or cheesy puffs at the rally, so they won't stay. Or they will forget why they are there in the first place.

(edit) although.... they don't control Digg : ), it's a start !- g30ph, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I think it probably has even more to do with advertisers than the government. The advertisers want to stay away from controversy because they want to appeal to the largest possible audience, like the way movie studios want every movie to be PG-13. So the TV people are afraid to do anything too controversial that will turn away a part of the audience that may be against that controversial point of view.
Whether the government has influence, I don't know, I would assume so. But It's not 110%, they are sharing with Rupert Murdock, Pfizer, Dupont, the list is endless. - worldinmyeyes, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4"As long as the government controls the Media, which they do 110%.... it don't look so good...

- BelXul, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12In addition, there have been several polls conducted over the years, and I believe the most overwhelming one was where about 85% of the people polled supported MJ for medicinal uses, yet the guys on Capitol Hill keep ignoring "We the People". There's even a large number of people who support decriminilization entirely, and while not as large a majority as the above listed, also get ignored.

- darthsabbath, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Should they not be allowed to? The business is the owner's property, and as such, he should be allowed to hire and fire anyone he or she chooses, regardless of reason (yes, even for such ***** reasons as race, sex, religion). My personal opinion is that anyone who would hire or fire someone for ANY reason other than their qualifications and job performance is a scumbag, and should be avoided, but I see nothing wrong with an employer's personal bias coming into play. I've met enough highly talented drug users that any employer letting them go would be doing their company a grave disservice.

- fanclerks, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6You're assuming that the US Government actually works for the people anymore. I know it's cynical, but I sincerely think that the majority of Washington works for big business and no longer for the people they "supposedly" represent. The only time they appear to ever listen to the public is during election time. And even then, I think it's just a false front. They all have their issues and people who have them in their back pocket.
- worldinmyeyes, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11Yes, and this is why EVERYONE here needs to get out of this false left-right paradigm. Liberals blame conservatives, and vice versa. BOTH parties are corrupt, and ONE agenda is moving forward. We the people get screwed. Truth is, we have the power - if 10 percent protested, the government would shake in fear - BUT apathy reigns. It's just how the government wants it. Troubled times are ahead, but I won't stop speaking the truth.
- dillibob, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1its cause stoners have their own way of protesting, smoking up a storm!
- jmnugent, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4No.. there are no "massive protests".. for many of the reasons people listed in comments above. 1.) even when there are massive protests, it doesnt change anything because the government is gonig to do what it wants to do anyways. 2.) I think alot of people are worried about their jobs and gas prices and working their asses off just to pay the bills (atleast I am)... and 3.) there is a big part of the US population that probably would rather not deal with anything serious.. and just sit around and watch reality TV.
Sad to say.. but a variety of factors over the past 30 years or so has created a situation where the government can pretty much do what it wants. The people who are rich enough just stay in their mansions and enjoy... the middle class is working its ass off just to survive and the poor lower class is disaffected and really doesnt care. Sometimes you can get some of those people to care about the issues that specifically effect them.... but to try to get everyone together to protest issues that effect EVERYONE is just simply not gonna happen. (until the bottom falls out)
- RunawayElf, on 10/11/2007, -5/+36What's your suggestion? Throw stones at their tanks? Or wait, maybe you think Bush would listen to reason if we wrote him. No, there are no mass protests, but there are activist folk out there working to stop the tyranny.

This war on drugs is so backwards.
- lemonloser, on 10/11/2007, -11/+1but the problem about legalization of marijuana is that it would become like tobacco, in which huge companies add chemicals and additives for the purpose of selling more. it wouldn't be natural anymore.
- jaredvolkl, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Yes, but legalization would allow people to have a few plants at home if they wanted. - kazamx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Fear not, smoke this and all the worry will be gone. Well unless you go outside or hear a funny noise downstairs then your gonna ***** your pants.
- plutpwnium, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Yeah... Marijuana relieves paranoid thoughts. Have you ever been high before?
- kazamx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Fear not, smoke this and all the worry will be gone. Well unless you go outside or hear a funny noise downstairs then your gonna ***** your pants.

can you imagine the elite making plans of 10 years or more?? duh.. - Jones82, on 10/11/2007, -0/+20"Don't buy drugs. They fund violence and terror"
Then why not legalize?- DiggChainey, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15"Don't buy drugs. They fund violence and terror" Then why not legalize?
The current administration has already legalized Violence and Terror.
- DiggChainey, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15"Don't buy drugs. They fund violence and terror" Then why not legalize?
- raskali, on 10/11/2007, -0/+24These morons don't even understand what the word "terrorist" means - it's someone who uses violence to acheive political ends.
- fnaqzna, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5You have to trust your gut. :)
- kazamx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Have you not seen the crazy riots all those pot smokers go on. They go crazy smashing up shops, burning down towns, taking over countries.
The only thing a pot smoker can do to help terrorists is get them stonned. If the pot smokers had got hold of the people flying the planbes on 9/11 they would have been so mashed they would have missed the flight. They would have been too lazy to book another one and would still be sitting in the pot heads lounge trying to find the Domino's flyer.- isaactwito, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Have you ever smoked pot or seen anyone who is high in your life? Because people who are stoned aren't like that at all. They're just chill and happy to be hanging out on such a comfortable piece of concrete out on a sidewalk. Drunks are the people who go on riots and stuff. That's why it's absurd and dangerous that the U.S. has this attitude that alcohol is okay but pot makes you crazy.
- BigLambos, on 10/11/2007, -0/+22im sure glad our government is focusing on the real problems in America, like marijuana (sarcasm)
- Th3Dud3, on 10/11/2007, -0/+36"illicit marijuana gardens are a terrorist threat to the public's health and safety, as well as to the environment."
Sounds like somebody likes keywords.- nondescrypt, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Yes, Plants destroy the environment !!!!! certainly not greedy, deceitful, corporate US monopolies with their own personal law-makers.
- tech42er, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1"The terrorist threat from dangerous drugs such as illicit marijuana contributes to global warming and destroys families while supporting homosexuals and increases murders, such as abortions."
- shinedout, on 10/11/2007, -0/+29It's blatantly official now... We do have the dumbest people running this country
- exec721, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17This is absolute *****! It wouldn't be a black market drug if the government just ***** legalized it already. Then they can tax it and use the money to help start more useless wars. I find it funny how the government continues to push a policy that was unenforceable in the first place. Sure, you can arrest some drug lords, burn a few fields. In the end, however, we'll have a greater supply of more potent weed to smoke. Someone in the Bush administration releases the name of a CIA agent and we're the terrorists? I believe this is a testament to how delusional the factions have become. As a tax paying (and otherwise) law abiding citizen, I'm quite frankly offended.
- AmonAmarth, on 10/11/2007, -0/+22Man, can we just get Bush's people out of office already? God, they've done enough horrible ***** already, just get them the ***** out.
- aukxsona, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2How do you plan to do that ..no matter whose elected...unless it's Paul or K we're stuck with Bush and his ilk forever.
- i4ybrid, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5While many of the things they say might be true.
Money from drugs could very possibly be going to terrorists, and they very well may be carrying firearms; this doesn't mean that they are causing terror. If you are scared by the sight of someone smoking pot, then you would jump out of your skin at LSD users. What's next? Downloading mp3s makes you a terrorist because you are stealing money from the record industry and the nation in the form of taxes?
It's pretty funny, but it's also sad that they can twist things around to do anything they want by simply labeling you as a terrorist.- Hananda, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I can't find the source, but I distinctly remember someone in the federal government making the claim that pirating software funded terrorism.
I thought it was satire at first, but no, he was being serious. And the media didn't call him on it. Scary stuff. - aadyss, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0Obviously nothing funds terrorism to a liberal and drug user. There is no war on terrorism because there is no such thing? Guess not...........the mind is gone in a drug induced haze.
- Hananda, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I can't find the source, but I distinctly remember someone in the federal government making the claim that pirating software funded terrorism.
- rswelling, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Legalize it and stay the ***** out of my business. Former "candidate" Doug Stanhope...had my vote.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yd5_nTwLVEg- tech42er, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Then Ron PAul should have your vote now. He seems to be the only candidate willing to legalize it.
- rlbigfish, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Or Mike Gravel

- evilregis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7So you don't have to worry about this then, right? Randomly naming particular groups of people "terrorists" is fine. Got it.
- elsJake, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7neither do i , but i fail to see how these people are terrorists.
- Modulo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8you also have lousy smelling.
- EvilDr.X, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9"As of Thursday morning, Operation Alesia raids had resulted in the yanking of 68,237 young marijuana plants from public lands in Shasta County."
Well, that explains why the market has dried up recently...- Modulo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12I like that they actually have the name of Operation Whatever for something that has managed to stop about as much marajuana from being on the street as my lungs. My lungs are crimefighters. Operation TakeAHitForTheTeam has successfully kept 10 thousand dollars worth of weed out of the hands of school children.
- aukxsona, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Actually I nelieve that is a character of mine they named it after.

No that's not propaganda. - LTownBrodown, on 10/11/2007, -31/+0good, no one should be smoking it anyways
- elsJake, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8why ?
- nondescrypt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6... because he's never smoked it... so no one else should either. This man has a bright future in politics, i sense.
- tech42er, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Because he's a troll.

- TremorX, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15"This business we intend to put into recession, depression and put its leaders into jail," Walters said.
Funny, the first two are what our leaders are doing to us, and the latter is what we should be doing to them.- kazamx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7The sad thing is the whole WAR ON TERROR, will be about as much use as THE WAR ON DRUGS.
- remisser, on 10/11/2007, -1/+24I wish terrorists smoked marijuana. Then they'd be too lazy to actually harm anyone.
- Calder0n, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15ORLY MISTER DRUG CZAR? I think any job title that includes the name "Czar" is a far bigger threat to America than any of that terror propaganda they try manipulating us with. Ladies and gentlemen "Smoke'em if you got'em".
- CMOSLogic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1....
- CMOSLogic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3yea who the ***** thinks i should refer to him as 'Ceasar'? We know what happened to Ceasar.
- TheN0ble, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14For Marijuana, we should legalize it, regulate it, tax it.
- DestroyFascism, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16legalize yes
- lilricky, on 10/11/2007, -12/+1Im all for legalizing, regulating and taxing it, get the potheads to pay our taxes, they don't contribute to our society anyway now. Lets let them contribute something.
- hobonetweaver, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5It's better to have potheads out of prison paying taxes, than to have them in prison where our taxes pay to keep them locked up and fed. Even if we don't tax marijuana, they will still pay all the other taxes that already exist.
- CMOSLogic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Actually i'm the one who's a telecommunications technician, and you're the one who waits tables or humps freight. You can be replaced with another developmentally disabled low i.q. retarded person.
I can't.

Tax? HELL NO!!!!- noosejunky, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Alchohol is taxed, tobacco is taxed, every other little damn thing is taxed, i don't think this is an issue.
- tech42er, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Yeah, but they shouldn't be.
- plutpwnium, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You think there going to legalize marijuana WITHOUT taxing it? Your a juvenile dumb ***** if you seem to think that.
- noosejunky, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Alchohol is taxed, tobacco is taxed, every other little damn thing is taxed, i don't think this is an issue.
- SouthsideIrish, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Tas no
- Psionx0, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Tax, Yes of course. A sales tax on MJ is being instituted in California right now for Medical users. None of the medical users are complaining though. Why you might ask? Because even though we hate taxes, by giving the state some money, they have no reason to complain. Medical users pay slightly more (standard sales tax), and the state shuts up. Sounds good to me. Now it is the Feds that Medical users have to worry about.
- plutpwnium, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I'll be glad to pay taxes for my bud if it will cost me being locked up for enjoying myself. Its like legal 'bribing' of the government. Works for me.
- DestroyFascism, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16legalize yes
- krnldmp, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13Seriously folks, like actual terrorists are going to F*CK around with something as easily busted and time consuming as a field of marijuana IN USA.
Sure thing. - opiestana, on 10/11/2007, -3/+21LEGALIZE MARIJUANA, CRIMINALIZE FAST FOOD!!!
- davinox, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5What are you talking about? They make such a fabulous combo.
- plutpwnium, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1You're a ***** retard. Why would you criminalize fast food and legalize marijuana? Just as davinox said, they go hand in hand. You're a ***** retard.
- Aliarse, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4***** the DEA.
- spasticwarthog, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5To be fair, the article is discussing large plots illicitly grown on public lands, not personal gardens. As a hiker, these enterprises make it a little riskier to go off trail or trust strangers you meet in the woods, and make the jobs of rangers and forest service personnel much tougher, because if they stumble on one of these plots, they can be in real danger.
Granted, the term "terrorism" has become so diluted as to be meaningless, at least until you end up in secret custody.- krnldmp, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Do you suppose government labeling domestic commercial growers TERRORISTS is likely to make them a whole lot friendlier?
- smileydude, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5There are very few examples of these growers being violent besides self defense. They arm themselves because of other armed "raiders".
- krnldmp, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Do you suppose government labeling domestic commercial growers TERRORISTS is likely to make them a whole lot friendlier?
- floatingpoints, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Title doesn't ***** say it all if you add ***** to the end of the description declaring so.
- NikoKun, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8You completely fix the "black market funding terrorism" when you legalize Marijuana.
And on a side note:
"Prohibition will work great injury to the cause of temperance, for it goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes."
"A Prohibition law strikes a blow to the very principles upon which our government was founded." - Abraham Lincoln - TexanRudeBoy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3IF IT WAS LEGAL WE WOULDN'T HAVE ILLEGAL "TERROTRIST" GROWERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
