So do the terrorist and liberals. Are they on the same side?- sobriquet, on 10/12/2007, -48/+16Obama is walking a very fine line with the withdrawal issue. The British were able to withdraw from the south for reasons we cannot, stability. There's very few that want us to stay there indefinitely, but putting a fixed deadline on withdrawal is just asking for trouble. Leaving to soon would merely exaggerate the current humanitarian crisis. It really comes down to a lesser of two evils, if you'll pardon the cliche.
- Humptydank, on 10/12/2007, -27/+8
I really like Obama, but no matter what the issue is he's starting way too early. There's no way he can sustain a strong, enthusiastic, public campaign in the press for 600+ days.
He should be spending his time building his campaign organization and avoid engaging on these things until we get closer to the election. The entire meaningful public already hates Bush, Cheney, and their strategies, there's nothing to win here. Let Congress do the fighting for now (wish they would...), make sure you have tons of money and volunteers in every state, and then a year out really start in for good. - TexMurphy, on 10/12/2007, -23/+21Google Video: THE PEOPLE V. He has to do it to try and make up ground on Hillary in the money race. With key states like California wanting to move their primaries up, he has to raise a lot of money to compete on the airwaves. That means making a lot of appearances and giving a lot of speeches. - EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+404wheel: "So do the terrorist and liberals. Are they on the same side?"
OMG the terrorists believe in the right to own guns and oppose abortion and gay marriage--they must be on the same side as the Republicans! /sarcasm
People that talk like this always crack me up. Just because terrorists (or anybody else) is for or against something doesn't automatically mean we should be for the opposite. Intelligent people are actually able to evaluate ideas based on their individual merits. You ought to try it. - sundancekid503, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22You can say what you want about his lack of experience, but this guy really shows signs of being a natural leader. - deesnutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Great, now Cheney just sent Barack Obama an invitation to go quail hunting with him.
But I think Barack Obama knows better. Isn't it refreshing that a politician is bringing some truth to light instead of blatant lies. I mean come on, who the hell does Cheney think he's fooling. If the British pulled out because their area in Iraq is stable, why didn't they send them to Baghdad to help the Americans secure Baghdad.
The British want out because Blair finally figured out that there's no sense in putting his troops into the middle of a civil war. But no, Cheney is trying to spin this ***** (and with a straight face I might add) as a good thing. Of course, we all know that the Republican sheep has already swallowed this horse ***** and fully digested on it.
But it goes to show you, Barack Obama is the real deal. Not a single other politician has openly come out and say that what Dick Cheney said was a joke. Not one. This is what America needs. We are tired of having politicians tell us that all is well when we could see with our own two eyes that all is for *****.
This country needs to wake up from this comma induced Republican hold. And realize that these Republican leaders are all full of *****. And that the fear tactics and labeling is a tactic that no longer holds water. America needs a positive change after 2 terms of George W. Bush. I say we start off right and vote Barack Obama as President in 2008. Spread the good word ... http://www.bobama.com

Unfortunately the only people that seem to be convinced of that are the same people that were telling us Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, they were collaborating with Al Qaeda, that we would be greeted as liberators, and mission accomplished.

- amightywind, on 10/12/2007, -16/+4You are a very stupid fellow. Check out the value of the US dollar versus other major world currency over the last 5 years.. The dollar is down against the Euro and Pound, up against the Yen and Canadian Dollar. China artificially supports the Yuan, which amounts giving me goods for free! Most of the countries whose currency is rising relative to the US hold a large trade surplus. The weakening dollar makes our exports more competitive in those markets. Ask Boeing how concerned about the weak dollar they are.
- rthakidn, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2Really, I'm not sure why liberals (oh I mean socialists) like you care about the dollar. I mean, isn't your mantra "from each, according to his ability, to each according to his needs"

Calling someone a socialist is a compliment you know. Jesus was not a Republican who starved the poor and neglected the sick so he would wage wars. Jesus had a heart for the poor and loved peace. He commanded us to. If you want to claim some superior ground maybe you should let go of the Republican religion of worshiping Bush and start being more of a socialist yourself. It's pretty psycho to put people down for saving and improving the lives of our troops and others. origclubsoda: You've hit on what is actually the crux of this whole article, and no one's actually talking about that part of it: that Obama's "accusation" is kind of illogical...kinda makes it seem like "well, find a reason to criticise Dick Cheney...that will play well to the crowd". - mmockett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1sunthe1, are you serious? You both seem to be missing the point of the article. Obama is claiming that Iraq has been largely a failure and that withdrawing troops epitomises this. Cheney, however, is quick to claim that this is a result of the strategic planning and that withdrawal is a tribute the successful 'intervention'. However, Cheney is simply trying to cast a positive political light on this disaster, presumably to salvage the administration's reputation. Obama is perfectly logical in criticising Cheney for this frankly pathetic political move. What's the problem!?

He has hit on the right strategy. The Democrats opposition has been so weak kneed it is nice to hear somebody come out swinging. God knows it would be easy to slam Cheney and Bush.
