Elliot Spitzer warned that the OCC was getting too much power about 5 years ago or more.

There are well over 200 Escort Services in the DC yellow pages many of which charge way over $10,000, so why was Elliot about the only one with a SAR? Yes, Elliot screwed up majorly not only in his personal life and legally, but most important of all because he forfeited his ability to go after bad business. The bailout situation may have been largely avoided had Elliot Spitzer stayed on.
SAR = The banking system's "Suspicious Activity Reports" are way too numerous to count much like event logs. But the scenario painted in the media was that SARs are very very infrequent so it was easy to find Spitzer in the SARs event log.

There were a lot of state regulation in place to go after the egregious fraudulent practices. Also, because its northeast, and people weren't climbing over themselves, there was less of a construction bubble, compared to FL, NJ, and CA.
Right now, there are a lot of Long Islander speculators feeling the crunch of the bad, overbuilt housing market. But not many foreclosure steals yet. My mother is bummed there isn't enough good property going cheap enough to pick off some distressed property. - netant, on 10/14/2008, -0/+1Plus the kiddies don't get it. Rich people have been blowing ridiculous sums on high end call girls for generations. They're not only paid for their looks and repetoire; they're paid for their "discretion". I wouldn't be shocked if Elliot picked up the habit from his dad. They do it because they didn't think there was a chance in hell they'd ever get caught. Name one high end Wall Street Executive, or Republican Convention Delegate that has been reeled in by a prostitution sting. Yeah, I didn't think so. Its pretty damn obvious they wanted Elliot out of the way for a reason.
