Protesters disrupt Bush's July 4th address at Monticello
rawstory.com — President Bush delivered a July 4th address before a naturalization ceremony for new citizens at Thomas Jefferson's home of Monticello that was repeatedly interrupted by protesters who called out "war criminal" and "impeach Bush."

At the same time a free-speaking, patriotic American expressing her views is being arrested.
"Bushie says" --never equals-- "Bushie does".- TJATL, on 07/05/2008, -22/+85Free Speech does not mean you can disrupt gatherings by yelling. If protesters get into the Democrat Convention and do the same thing they will be removed as well.
- digitalhair, on 07/05/2008, -16/+24seeing that rawstory is apparently one of the few sources willing to run a story that has people shouting "war criminal" over Bush's empty rhetoric about liberty, I'd say their "inappropriate" behavior at the high profile event was well placed - given the lack of a national alternative and practical means to establish consensus among observers.
now, go powder your whig a little more... it's about as effective toward preserving the constitution as your worthless appreciation for the rules of etiquette. - sodoh, on 07/05/2008, -2/+12Shame on her for not being in the "Free Speech Zone". Democratic one is normally a caged in area far away from the entrance to the event. The republican one they just round everyone up off the street and detain them for a day.
I thought it was a good thing. Bush has been leading such a sheltered life he still believes Americans love him. Seriously. Although this small protest will probably not have a huge dent on his ego. Intresting though that 3 years ago this woman probably would of never gotten within 3 blocks of the event. Gets easier with only 25% of the country agreeing with him. - ryanonfire, on 07/05/2008, -8/+2exactly you can't yell FIRE! in a store and then claim free speech after wards
- Garmr, on 07/05/2008, -3/+6There's nothing democratic about this kind of "convention". It's basically a typical demonstration of the tyranny of the majority and the prive lege of the hegemony. It's a one man show; a simple monologue. As a wise man once wrote: "True communication is only possible between equals". Free speech my ass...

- trispear, on 07/05/2008, -24/+7Bush should designate a Free Speech Zone and then once he's away from it, have it be illegal for him to speak his idiotic mind.
- JimmySpaza, on 07/05/2008, -12/+8Bet it took you at least 10 minutes to think that one up. We're amazed at your wit.
- luke374, on 07/05/2008, -16/+60I hate that people can't make this distinction. The organizers of an event have every right to remove people who are being disruptive to what people came to see. This is not the same as the police arresting somebody on public property for protesting.
- lintmonkey, on 07/05/2008, -1/+2This just shows that Bush can't make that distinction. He just felt like quoting the Constitution.
- TheFinaleofSeem, on 07/05/2008, -12/+48There were no arrests, you moron. Read the article. Six people were removed for disrupting the speech as they should have been, but no charges were pressed. Bush is an idiot, but these guys are assholes. Hold your signs and all that, but don't be a dick. And the lady who was removed rushed up to the front. That's going to make the security VERY antsy and will get you kicked out regardless of the president speaking. Pull your head out of your ass.

Oh *****, man. Please don't fail me. I got that whole Soviet Russia complex going on... - azAZ09, on 07/06/2008, -2/+4This is the Internet not an academic treatise you insignificant parasite. Use some common context clues to solve the homonym puzzle and get over it. You will also find your 'net reading comprehension in general will improve when you approach it this way.
Back before the Endless September it was considered a given fact that writers would make typos and gaffes (or in your case a gaffs since you're stuck on homonyms). Conventions of netiquette generally hold it more rude to point out to the entire world that someone else has made a grammar error, than to actually make one. As such, the true mark of a moron was that they could not keep themselves from compulsively trying to become the Internet's self-appointed troll-baiting grammar gestapo. The reason behind this convention comes from the fact that the person correcting grammar is usually has no relevant point to the thread topic, but is attempting to set up a personal attack. Like this one where you tried to turn my odd-homonym into ad-hominem.
However tactlessly you blundered onto your point, I agree. I made an error. Oops. Thanks so much for pointing it out. I feel safer now that you are on patrol. Please don't let anyone continue under the mistaken impression that they are smart enough to decode such vile bile . They clearly need to keep their cerebral cortex clear so more brain cells are available to decode important new 'net slang like pwnd and w00t. J00 r0X0r dud3! You must be right. I must be mentally challenged.
Since you were kind enough to highlight my developmental disabilities to the 1337 $p34k litEr@t1who might be a touch confused by the transposition of here and hear, I will help you out with a little edit problem also.
Hey limp-dick, use the words "*****" and "*****" not “f-ing” and “a-hole.” Anyone who is offended by the word being used will be just as offended by your butchering of it. If you are going to use an abbreviation so close to the words--don't be a chicken-*****—just use the words. If anyone cares they will click “hide profanity”. If you are trying to obfuscate your barbs there are at least a half dozen better ways for a master debater could spew bitter vitriol than the lame-ass *****-up hyphenation you [con *****'ed].
Oh, and by the way, this "illiterate a-hole" has a degree in English Lit.

- exegesisClique, on 07/05/2008, -12/+11That's absolutely true.
Nothing "grants" them. We has human beings are born with them innately. The First Amendment restricts the Government from passing laws that abridge that innately born right.
As long as those people were being peaceable they had a right to do it.
Was it rude? Yes. Was it inappropriate? Most definitely! It was however within their rights to protest that *public* event. - YukosEyes, on 07/05/2008, -3/+10Bush and company drowns out the voice of the people all the time with one sided communication and manipulation of the media. We never had a vote on this war. We never had a vote on the Patriot Act. There's no better time to interrupt this criminal than NOW!

- Caffeinate, on 07/05/2008, -2/+2Discontent has something going for it - after a while, if you become so disgusted by the actions of a political figure, and their attempts to hide that growing discontent by silencing anyone who disagrees, you really don't care anymore if it is impolite to interrupt those whose words never match their actions.
Free speech doesn't mean "I only speak my mind when everyone agrees with me and at the specific time allotted to me". If a politician is getting shouted down, interrupted, and prevented from speaking, that's a clue that there has been way too much time allotted to them to speak and way too little allotted to those who disagree with them. - jlfb, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1Exactly.
- beatpre, on 07/05/2008, -5/+3While free speech is a freedom that all American's have, I do believe it was in poor taste to do this at a naturalization ceremony, only because these new citizens of ours WOULD have remembered this day as the day they became just that, citizens of the United States. Now it's known as the day Code Pink started yelling *****, thereby ruining THEIR special ceremony. And yes, there will be comments, "bush ruined peoples lives, he's killed troops, etc" but at the end of the day, would you want a group of people you don't know stand up and start screaming and running around protesting during your high school/college graduation? Now the ceremony, attended by family and friends, undoubtedly video taped for posterity, has women standing up yelling and otherwise looking stupid (yes, the lady running around with the banner looks stupid.) You can't turn every single event someone in the government attends into an anti-war demonstration, you end up making yourself look bad.
On a more personal note, ***** them for the whole USMC debacle. Marines have fought for their right to protest since 1775. With regards to that, CP needs to calm the ***** down, and shut the ***** up.- nasalspray, on 07/05/2008, -3/+5Congrats for buying into the very thing that they WANT you to buy into at the moment - ME ME ME ME ME. MY ceremony was ruined... MY birthday has been tainted because of a tsunami that killed 250,000 - ***** them... MY birthday is on 9/11, happy birthday to me, aye? MY MY MY ME ME ME...
All the while, Bush and Co. may continue to do anything they want at any time without worry that the "ME ME ME folks" will focus on anything else.
Get your head out of your posterior and thank GOD that SOMEONE is doing SOMETHING - congress sure as ***** isn't and neither are the ME ME ME's...
Somewhere along the way, the U (United) lost out to the ME (ME in the States of America). - beatpre, on 07/05/2008, -3/+1Rebuttals:
1. I didn't buy into anything, I just pointed out a (true) fact that Code Pink ruined the ceremony. And there's no way you can argue otherwise because that was their goal. The ***** wouldn't have made news if it didn't go off without the interruption. It was just a shame that people had a huge day in their lives ruined by protesters. Same with the Westboro Baptist Church protesting military funerals. EXACT same thing. There's a time and place, but when it's the wrong time/place, it makes the news, furthering their message. It's a sad, sad, circle.
2. And as far as 9/11 being my birthday...yes while the day forever rings in my mind (that's why I signed up for the USMC) it would still be my birthday, so how the ***** can you tell me that I'm selfish for celebrating my birthday? According to you, the alternative is wallowing in pity, which serves no purpose. If I die in a horrific terrorist act, remember me, but don't ruin your day, especially if you never knew me. A prayer would be nice, even if it's a blanket prayer to all those effected by the attack. But I don't expect Joe Schmo to not celebrate his daughter's birthday because of a horrible act. THAT would be selfish.
3. Yes, everyone knows Bush is terrible, polls show it. We are, as you say, "U-nited" in that fact. But just because he speaks somewhere doesn't mean that gives someone the right to ruin the ceremony. You want to protest? Protest in front of the White House, Congress, or the Supreme Court.
4. I don't ask for praise, glory, and congratulations for signing up for the military. I chose this profession on my own accord. But I consider the act a uniquely non-selfish action shared by the armed forces of America, all who have volunteered to sign up or stay in after 9/11. Do you think I want to go to Afghanistan? No. But I feel as if I owe it to those families who lost a son, father, mother, brother, sister, or daughter on that terrible day in September. And hundreds of thousands of my fellow service members feel the same way.
5. Out of order, but with regards to the tsunami killing 250,000 - Yes, again, tragic, but on my birthday (or Christmas/New Years to be accurate), I will still go celebrate those holidays. Call me selfish, but I know if another tragedy like that occurs, I might find myself helping out in person, which I would be more than happy to do.
6. I truly am sorry if I've been bashing you, or trying to elevate myself, but please, please, watch who you're calling selfish around here. Those citizens who were naturalized didn't have a say in who their speaker was, Bush probably picked the occasion based on spreading his rhetoric. Using someone's event to spread your message is an inherently selfish act.
7. Happy belated 4th of July Digg.

Digg is full of idiotic hypocrites.- supermanky, on 07/05/2008, -0/+4If everyone had such easy access to the earth's material and media resources, perhaps that would be a viable argument. As it stands, Bush and the system of abuse he represents has very clearly, disrespectfully taken more than his share for the past 8 years, helping accelerate great turmoil on the earth. It therefore seems okay to me, if wherever he goes he and everyone around him are confronted with how the choices of his administration have deepened the discord in the world.
Is it not inappropriate to choose to forget these things?

damage to our prosperity.Unless you have strong war industry interests
you lose from military waste.

He's the absolute worst president the United States has ever had.
I just think that it would be more appropriate to be hollering insults on President's Day.
Not when he's naturalizing citizens on the 4th of July.
The 4th is OUR day. It's an insult to do this in front of new citizens. And by innappropriate, I think more about the naturalized citizens than the Commander in Chief.
Yes, the 4th is the day the citizens an upstart colony told the strongest monarchy in the world at the time, "No more kings!"
And yes, he is a pompous king. And I think he needs to be told to his face.
Honestly, I have a calendar that counts down the days till Bush is gone.

That's the beauty of democracy. If you feel that your leader is full of *****, you have every right to call him on it because YOU helped put him there. Leaders can't lead if people don't choose to follow.
- TheFinaleofSeem, on 07/05/2008, -12/+8Yep, let's all act like total dicks because we're RIGHT, so we're allowed to do so! Code Pink made themselves look like total asses here. Now Code Pink acting like ***** just gave him some more ammo to lob at his opposition in traditional political mudslinging style. Stop defending this stupid *****.
- CoreyHalliwell, on 07/05/2008, -10/+5The difference here in bushes case... is the opposition, despite being "dicks" is right... any opposition to bush right now is right...

I favor eggs and tomatoes, but Code Pink's words are a good start.- TheFinaleofSeem, on 07/05/2008, -15/+10Yep, let's all act like a bunch of childish pricks the next time a political leader we don't like speaks. If someone doesn't like Obama, they should go shout him down! Go yell at Ron Paul the next time he speaks! Because according to your logic, it's perfectly fine. Oh, wait, I'm sure it's only fine as long as they're yelling at someone you don't like.
Bush looks like a big enough douche without his detractors acting like idiots and giving him more ammo to sling at the opposition.- bradspangler, on 07/05/2008, -9/+6That statement is approximately as disingenuous as the Nazis suddenly getting upset about widespread violence during the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.
- TheFinaleofSeem, on 07/05/2008, -4/+9And your parallels are exasperatingly stupid and ignorant.
- JimmySpaza, on 07/05/2008, -14/+9I favor eggs and tomatoes too...the next time Code Pink or some other liberal whiners protest. Actually, I favor water hoses and mace.

Your hypocrisy is showing. - YukosEyes, on 07/05/2008, -8/+8Protesting against a criminal president in his presence is not whiny. Those privileged by the establishment said the same type of things about civil rights, labor, and women's rights activists, to name a few, so as to devalue their interests and insinuate that their interests are childish and naive. The famous sociologist, Bourdieu, coined a name for what you just put on display for all to see in your comment -- symbolic violence.
Reading these comments is like going to a zoo that exists in the symbolic/linguistic realm, where humans are the show. Fun for me but also very sad. - siszam, on 07/05/2008, -7/+5Some of us "liberals" have liberal sons in the service too. You think the armed forces and their parents are all Neo Con trash? The majority of the troops do not support the war but don't let that ruin your delusion. Guess what candidate is getting the most money from troops? It's not McCain.
- sonnybobiche, on 07/05/2008, -3/+6Siszam: your sons probably don't appreciate you diminishing the value of what they're doing by arguing that it's pointless. They're risking their life, and you're telling people that it's for nothing.
- Caffeinate, on 07/06/2008, -2/+1Sonny, where did Siszam say that what his sons were doing was pointless? And sonny, are you or your loved ones in the Armed Forces, serving in Iraq? Many men and women serving in Iraq do not support the war but they are still doing their duty. Their service certainly has value - it is called "Honor and Duty". Siszam has every right to mention that his sons do not support the war, and that he doesn't support it either - it doesn't diminish their sacrifice one bit.
Bush and his entire administration would do well to learn the meaning of the words honor and duty - Honor and duty mean doing what you say you will do, not mumbling platitudes and saying patriotic sounding words while doing the exact opposite.
- DevilInPgh, on 07/05/2008, -7/+10But G-d forbid a protestor throw cow manure into the base, let alone in the DIRECTION of the base...

- boombye, on 07/05/2008, -2/+7I would be more than happy for people to protest or shout stuff out if Bush suddenly made an appearance at my citizenship ceremony. Seriously, a real American recognizes that Bush is no true American and doesn't deserve my attention. Stop acting like you think these new foreigners all love Bush. I bet plenty of people sitting down just wanted to get their citizenship, I'm sure plenty don't give a ***** about Bush or like him, America is a great country, but Bush is not America. So seriously, stop acting like these people are offended. They're being told that they live in a free country as people are being hauled off for expressing their constitutional right to be heard. That was the disgrace. I think what they got to witness is what makes America great. We have annoying protesters who have a right to talk ***** to the President without being executed like in some 3rd world countries. You try doing what code pink does in another country, and things won't go so well for you.

- TheFinaleofSeem, on 07/05/2008, -15/+10Yep, let's all act like a bunch of childish pricks the next time a political leader we don't like speaks. If someone doesn't like Obama, they should go shout him down! Go yell at Ron Paul the next time he speaks! Because according to your logic, it's perfectly fine. Oh, wait, I'm sure it's only fine as long as they're yelling at someone you don't like.

- kmlove, on 07/05/2008, -6/+8and Obama doesn't? I know for a fact that he sends invites to only specific supporters, that's what all politicians do, even Democrats.
- DevilInPgh, on 07/05/2008, -3/+11I can't speak for Obama, but unlike previous Presidents, Bush has forced "First Amendment Zones" out nearly 2 miles from where he is, as if he's trying to enclose himself in a bubble. It's a hallmark of a bad leader to enclose himself in a bubble.
- bradspangler, on 07/05/2008, -1/+5So I guess if you object to positions held by both Bush and Obama then you're just ***** out of luck, right? How convenient.

- TheCamino, on 07/05/2008, -2/+1 "Maybe the reason he gets away with all this hideous ***** and Congress is afraid to defy him, is that too few people participate in a protest of any kind?"
No. The reason why congress refuses to defy him is that there are THREE distinct groups in congress. There are upcoming politicians who are Democrats, there are upcoming politicians who are Republicans, and then there is THE PERMANENT POLITICAL CLASS.
Once you start understanding why the system sucks because of the permanent political class, then you realize that the truth of the matter is that political parties are a shell game in America, and that the reason why THERE ARE ONLY TWO IS BECAUSE THAT IS THE MINIMUM NUMBER NECESSARY TO LOOK LIKE YOU EVEN HAVE A CHOICE AT ALL. What's it going to be? WHO'S GOING TO SAVE US, AMERICA? Coke this week, or Pepsi next month?
Why do lifelong permanent political incumbents switch parties after twenty years in the house? Because someone offered them a deal. You're not thinking about the people that elected you. You're not even thinking about your platform. You're thinking about what a big shiny bow they put on whatever they just gave you in secret.
Here's the real truth: after a person in congress gets elected a second time, they join the fraternity of people who now never have to really worry too much about getting re-elected. Then they start taking PAC money out the wazoo, and all of them do, and also in international accounts, and also spend their days on some private golf course with their corporate sponsored, twenty something knockout mistress. You can never contact them, unless you pay to. They have press releases on a three month regularity to look like they're doing something for you, but that's all a shell game, where the bill looks like it's for the people with a title like "Heath care reform for seniors." When in reality, it just blocked all health care for seniors, because Glaxo-Smith-Klein wanted to make sure that the states were forced BY LAW to pay premium rates for drugs instead of the international generic price.
Progress is always about the congress. And congress ain't goin' anywhere.
Don't vote on whether they're a Democrat or Republican. Vote on how many times they've remodeled their office since he got there. That's where the progress, and the rubber stamp, and the corporate sell out lies in America.
And yes, there's no way in hell the congress is going to stop the president. After all, both the president and congress have to be corporate PAC approved by the permanent political class to do anything today. And let's be honest, there is nobody in the US that is more corporate PAC approved than a person with the last name of BUSH.

Jesus, what a ***** mess this country has become.- Bamont, on 07/05/2008, -8/+9I implore you to go do some research before making such a claim. I'm not advocating that Bush has been a worthy President, because he hasn't, but the doom and gloom is hardly all his fault. - TheFinaleofSeem, on 07/05/2008, -6/+5It was only a matter of time before the other side started calling people anti-American for disagreeing with them. You have more in common with Bush than you think, jackass.
- rationalbeats, on 07/05/2008, -6/+7Hey *****,
It is ok for Code Pink to do it, in fact its the very definition of patriotism. It were the patriots during the 1770's that spoke up against the King and formed this great nation, hence where we get the definition of patriot.
Calling these woman attention whores and discrediting their valid criticisms is no better than King George calling the patriots who formed our country criminals, dogs, and infidels.
So ***** you. - TheFinaleofSeem, on 07/05/2008, -5/+5Um, no, ***** you for defending a bunch of idiots disrupting a public event and disregarding everyone else there. They have valid criticisms? Maybe, maybe not, but going into a public speech and yelling and making a ruckus is NOT the way to get them across. There's a time and a place for everything, and they ***** up. This doesn't make them look rational or reasonable. It just makes them look like inconsiderate tools. Bush already looks like one whenever he speaks, so why would they feel the need to lower themselves to that level?
And ***** you for thinking that if someone does something you agree with, it immediately parallels the American Revolution. There's a big difference between some toolbags yelling in the crowd and a bunch of people revolting to start their own country. And ***** you for calling someone "anti-American" for disagreeing with your opinion. That's something that the Bush admin kicked off a few years ago, so I'm glad you're so eager to follow in his footsteps. But hey, this is Digg, where opinion = fact, and you're an idiot and anti-American if you don't agree with mine! - JHB800, on 07/05/2008, -5/+2They're stupid, dumb as ***** attention whores. - rationalbeats, on 07/05/2008, -3/+6LOL at finalseeman,
Hey *****, calling American citizens exercising their rights attention whores is anti-American, especially on the anniversary of the day we declared our independence from King George.
I guess Samual Adams, and John Hancock where attention whores as well. I mean bitching about the ***** Stamp Act? Those ***** cheap infidels don't even want to pay for the French Indian War, so they go and whine like little whores and cause a ruckus. - TheFinaleofSeem, on 07/05/2008, -4/+3Congratulations on missing the point entirely, numbnuts. Keep drawing parallels that are exasperatingly stupid and ignorant. Yep, a few people shouting at a public event is DEFINITELY the same thing as a revolutionary war! I love how everyone loves to compare their side to people fighting in the Revolutionary War. Hey, I've got it! Those protesters were just like King George who was trying to tell the colonists to shut up, and so they removed them from their event, and you're anti-American if you don't agree with me! See, aren't stupid parallels and utterly baseless accusations fun?
- YukosEyes, on 07/05/2008, -12/+8Interesting inclusion of the word "whores;" wonder why you chose that degrading, gendered word for individuals who are exercising their rights? After you linguistically degraded them and drew attention to their culturally devalued gender you decided to trivialize their interests by portraying them as though they just want attention, like a child jumping in front of a camera just to get on camera. They had an important message for the media, but more importantly, for Bush.
Is a better way to be patriotic to shut up or leave the country if you don't like the way your own tax money is being spent and don't like your civil rights and habeas corpus being destroyed?- HanFastolfe, on 07/05/2008, -1/+8"Interesting inclusion of the word "whores;" wonder why you chose that degrading, gendered word for..."
Are you new at the Internet? "Attention Whore" is an Internet term referred to as a meme. There are over 9000 of them! Do a GIS (Google Image Search) entering the term "Attention Whore", to be brought up to speed. The Googles are your friend. - lead2thehead, on 07/05/2008, -1/+7Let me guess... you have one of those degrees that ends in "Arts". But since you asked, yes, that's exactly how I see them. They are spoiled little children, jumping up and down for attention. If they were intelligent adults with anything meaningful to say, they would have picked an appropriate time and place and used something other than name-calling.
An no, my man-hating feminist friend, I was not calling them whores because they're women. "Attention Whore" is a term we use here on the interweb to describe any person, male or female, who does ridiculous things to get attention. - pagno, on 07/05/2008, -4/+2Yes, because disagreeing with the leadership is unpatriotic now.
- jlfb, on 07/05/2008, -2/+3Oh, i get it, so I guess Bush supporters are "atrocity whores." fun game!
- boombye, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2I'm sorry, but here you go again, acting like words such as *****, Bitch, or Whore were speficically tailored for one gender. Sorry but the words are to be applied to both genders. If a man or women were to behave like any of those words, they should be called on it. Attention whores are people who are desperate for attention and will give up their dignity for some. Doesn't have a gender requirement.
Stop associating all these bad words with genders. Just because he uses that word, doesn't mean he's talking badly about women, he's talking badly about these people who wish to subject themselves to this behavior, regardless of their gender, the protesters were both men and women and deserving of the title, because I usually see them on cspan trying to make faces or look into the camera as someone is speaking when it has nothing to do with the republicans.. They're just rude, they have a right to do what they do, and I agree with some of their message, but their trolls about it. Although I don't disagree with them protesting Bush, they can be so damn annoying. One time there was some chris crocker looking woman or man, i don't know what it was, but it kept trying to make love to the camera as some guy is just talking about non-partisan issues, pissed me off because the person was acting like a clown behind someone who was talking, and kept trying to jump in front of the camera, and it had nothing to do with code pink issues. - YukosEyes, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1Attention whore is simply not an accurate term for what they're intention was; their end goal wasn't attention in and of itself it was to convey a meaning to the public and to the politicians.
Aside from accuracy, I don't give a ***** how a word is used. You all make it sound very simplistic when we all know that words like whore, *****, and bitches draw up certain images in one's mind that are gendered, and if you disagree I am inclined to say that you are lying because they are cultural, that is, they are difficult to individualize. The history of these words are gendered even if you believe they are not used in a gendered way and do not conjure up gendered images.
That woman was intelligent and did have something meaningful to say, but she is forces to play the same game that the politicians play in order to convey that message. - YukosEyes, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1HanFastolfe,
I know what a meme is; the term attention whoreing is a meme, and that is exactly the reason why I am against. Since you used the word meme, please watch Susan Blackmore's TED talk on memes and temes to become conscious of what exactly you're actually referring to:
http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/susan_blackmore ...
A meme derives from information that is varied, it is selected and that gets imitated; this process ends in the production of design without human intention, even though humans are capable of designing with intention. A meme is conveyed without consciousness of the history and meaning of it; I was simply trying to insert some consciousness into the linguistic processes of some diggers, and encourage them to design with meaning instead of mindlessly and absent of context.

Face it, we put up with his crap driving this country to the ground for nearly 8 years, we might as well just sit and wait, even IF he was to be impeached or whatever it wouldn't happen, by the time if anybody agreed to impeach him his time would be up anyways.

- aadyss, on 07/05/2008, -3/+0Have you ever read about the Alien and Sedition Acts? Try them on for size. These were signed into law by the 2nd President of the United States, a founder of the nation. I point this out to illustrate the ever so boorish argument that these are the 'worst of times'. The 'worst ever' crowd either loves fear mongering or are total nincompoops like the pinklets.
- cheezintern, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2maybe you should read up on what they were.
The Alien and Sedition Acts were made up of 4 separate acts,
1.The Naturalization Act-repealed in 1802
2. The Alien Friends Act-expired in 1801
3. The Alien Enemies Act- authorizes the president to arrest citizens of countries in the US we are at war with, still in effect.
4. The Sedition Act-expired 1801
I never said this is the 'worst of times,' but I think a government policy of spying on its citizens (and everything else in the patriot act) is pretty bad...and no I have nothing to hide, its just a power our government shouldn't have.
- cheezintern, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2maybe you should read up on what they were.
- aadyss, on 07/05/2008, -1/+1Why do you presume I don't know what the Alien and Sedition Acts were about? Could other assumptions you make be equally in error and could your attitude be somewhat boldly arrogant? I am aware you never stated these are the 'worst of times' for you need state that which you imply.
- CoMpUtErITGuY, on 07/05/2008, -31/+21The ***** idiots deserved to get arrested on a special day like today. I'm glad they spent their time in jail.
- Chicken, on 07/05/2008, -11/+16This day is to celebrate America. What Bush has done to America more than justifies their actions. These people are fighting for America while Bush is milking it.
- TheFinaleofSeem, on 07/05/2008, -8/+7No, these people are attention-whoring jackasses who made themselves and those who would side with them look like idiots. There's a time and a place for everything. Shouting down the president at a public speech and acting like an idiot? Nope, wrong time, wrong place.
- JimmySpaza, on 07/05/2008, -8/+3Code Pink is NOT fighting for me. I'll do my own fighting...and kick some protester rear end at the same time. :-)
- mrsammercer, on 07/05/2008, -0/+4TheFinaleofSeem, when else can you protest the President? Everywhere he goes people can't get anywhere near him. The "free speech zones" for any event he's attending is hundreds of yards away, if not further.
- Enkairi, on 07/05/2008, -2/+5RTFA it clearly states they were not arrested.
"According to Virginia's News Leader, "Lee Catlin, community relations director for the Albemarle County, said six protesters were asked to leave the ceremony," but none were arrested" - Dawnrazor, on 07/05/2008, -1/+1They weren't arrested. - dstz, on 07/05/2008, -3/+6"All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent."
I wonder from whom is that quote is and why it is relevant to that story. Oh wait, it is from Jefferson, the US president that, from his writings and quotes, would possibly be outraged by the modern United States for having become a God fearing, Big State country which thrive on war against it's own citizens as well as against people from all over the world.
"I hope these new citizens understand that some Americans are Idiots."
Yeah, those who don't protest at this point.- aadyss, on 07/05/2008, -0/+0Here is another quote from Jefferson. "Every citizen should be a soldier. This was the case with the Greeks and Romans, and must be that way for every free state."
Are you cognizant of the location of your local recruitment office? Any branch of service would be just fine but for a patriot such as yourself, I recommend the Marines.
- aadyss, on 07/05/2008, -0/+0Here is another quote from Jefferson. "Every citizen should be a soldier. This was the case with the Greeks and Romans, and must be that way for every free state."

- aadyss, on 07/05/2008, -1/+1zaptoman is not only a patriot but a scholar. It is painfully obvious that those such as wilywondr do not contain a snippet of American historical education.
- JimmySpaza, on 07/05/2008, -8/+26If Jefferson were alive, then he'd probably have Bush and most of Congress including the Supreme Court thrown in jail...as well as some ex-presidents we know.
Ooooo...that's right. Most Democrats in Congress would be in jail too. Sorry. That's just the way it is.- diggdallas, on 07/05/2008, -3/+12If Jefferson were alive, he'd probably be too immersed in learning about all the technological advances we've made in the past 200 years to be bothered with the current political climate. - PolishLogic, on 07/05/2008, -3/+3You don't have to be a woman to be a *****.
As for my class or lack there of, I'm not the one protesting at a ceremony for new citizens of this country. - boombye, on 07/05/2008, -2/+1Who said their gender has anything to do with being called a *****. ***** is not a word exclusive to the female population, there are many men who are deserving of being called one. You make the word 'gendered'. If you associate ***** with women, you have a problem. He was talking about the protesters, both men and women, being *****. While I don't agree with him calling them *****, he was not referring to gender. The only one doing that is you. You're projecting that. When someone acts like a bitch or a *****, it has nothing to do with their gender. If you keep acting like certain bad words can only be applied to one sex or another, where's the equality. Both men and women can be some bitches, and both men and women can be some rude assholes. Both can be whiny lil brats. Bad words or labels are not exclusive to gender. I'm trying to emphasize this you, because you seem to think that. Besides why should people be classy when talking about people they don't like anyways. If they don't like them, there's no reason for them to mind their manners. Why act fake and pretend to have manners for people you don't even like.
- PolishLogic, on 07/05/2008, -3/+3You don't have to be a woman to be a *****.
- Lomstradamus, on 07/05/2008, -3/+2Stupid of you to not understand that you've been duped by a bunch of neocon criminals who've thrown the Constitution in the toilet.
I pity anyone who could have sat through Bush's speech and actually believed a word of it.
Stupid idiots..- PolishLogic, on 07/05/2008, -4/+3Did I say anything about supporting Bush? No, dummy, I didn't.
What these assholes did was highly inappropriate. This ceremony wasn't about them, it wasn't about Bush, it was about allowing some respect and celebration for a group of people who had a desire to become new citizens of this country. These ***** just decided to go ahead and ruin it for these new citizens.
They should just stick to shouting "murderers" at recruitment centers, or protesting soldiers' funerals. Then they'd still be able to have all the fun they desired. - boombye, on 07/05/2008, -2/+2They didn't ruin the ceremony, all they did was interrupt Bush, who many of the people seated down probably don't like. Bush in turn was interrupting their ceremonies with his speech. Someone's who's betrayed the American people, and you're supposed to act like you're honored when he gives a speech spewing stuff he doesn't believe in....
- boombye, on 07/05/2008, -2/+2Also I believe it's that Westboro Baptist Church that protests at the funerals for dead soldiers. I think the Code Pinkos are for the most part, always protesting in D.C., and while I agree with some of their views, they can be very annoying and a discredit to the liberal movement, but they are not the same group you are thinking of that protests at funerals. That would be the Phelps family and their Westboro Baptist minions.

As I said, classy. - Lomstradamus, on 07/05/2008, -3/+3The "one guy" happens to be the leader of the greatest country in modern history and he has turned it into one of the most hated. He has done more damage than any other President EVER!

- jlfb, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1No clue?! Here's a little history lesson for you- Who coined the term fascism? Benito Mussolini! What term did he first use? CORPORATISM. Why did we invade Iraq? For big oil. Who set our nation's energy policy at the beginning of the Bush Administration in multiple secret energy task force meetings with Dick Cheney? Big Oil. Btw, you know what Condi Rice did before joining Bu$Co? She was on the board of Chevron! For ten years! And had an oil tanker named after her! All you have to do is a little research into this, if you can tear yourself away from Fox news, long enough that is. There is enough evidence on this administration to fill volumes. Halliburton, Blackwater, KBR, etc. etc. etc. Enjoy your hot dog! Ignorance is bliss.

But more importantly, you brainwashed little tool, most liberals don't equate him with a fascist in the sense of Gulag's or secret police, but you know, maybe in the very blatant things like his outstanding approval for: the patriot act, torture, pre-emptive war on false claims, repealing habeus corpus, stealing the election, etc... Grow up. - nickcommie, on 07/05/2008, -2/+1Fair enough, I just hope you read over my comment and see the parts that I more or less proved you wrong on, using history and facts... and yet I'm the one who got dug down.

- Caffeinate, on 07/06/2008, -0/+2Keyman, you *are* misinformed. While the Senate is "democrat controlled", it is by a razor thin margin. 49 Republicans, 49 Democrats and two independents is hardly "controlled by democrats", though technically they hold the majority.
Here, look at the statistics for the 110th Congress:
http://www.senate.gov/pagelayout/history/one_item_ ...
While you are looking, see which political party controlled it from November 12, 2002 until 2007. You know, during the time that we went to war in Iraq. You can cry about the Senate now, but the fact is Republicans controlled it during the time the major decisions about war in Iraq take place.
Note that I don't think either party has done a very good job for the American people, though. I'd like to see all 100 of them thrown out on their asses and they can take most of the House of Representatives with them, starting with the idiot Speaker of the House and working from there.

- TheFinaleofSeem, on 07/05/2008, -12/+6Yell at Bush at the proper time and place. Disrupting a public event when there are hundreds of people who came to hear him speak and NOT the attention whores in the crowd makes them look like idiots. The lady who rushed up front is especially stupid. The bodyguards of ANY president would not take that lightly. She's lucky she wasn't tackled and cuffed. Sorry, but anyone disrupting a public speech like this is an ass.
- sassip, on 07/05/2008, -4/+14Oh, so there's a time and a place set aside for Bush to hear opposing points of view from ordinary citizens? I must have missed the memo.
- Bob24, on 07/05/2008, -3/+10"Yell at Bush at the proper time and place."
And when exactly is that? - TheFinaleofSeem, on 07/05/2008, -6/+5Really? When has ANY president really set aside time like that outside of press conferences? I'm sure he sees plenty of opposition outside of public speeches where people are constantly yelling and making asses of themselves.
- DevilInPgh, on 07/05/2008, -4/+6And what would the proper time and place be? If I recall what I've heard of the history of the movement to free Soviet Jewry correctly, I believe there were protests outside anything associated with a Soviet official in the US.
- normlsparky, on 07/05/2008, -2/+8any time or place is the right time or place to tell this asshat of a president what we think of him.
- YukosEyes, on 07/05/2008, -4/+16They've got the guts to actually behave like patriots, and people throughout this forum have been calling them "*****" and "bitches." People are making a war at home; just what this administration would want.
- Franswahili, on 07/05/2008, -1/+9Brilliantly stated.
- TheFinaleofSeem, on 07/05/2008, -5/+1I guess people get "patriotism" and "attention-whoring" mixed up all the time.
- boombye, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2Yeah if I was there, I would be like "Oh what hell is Bush doing here"
and I would be happy for someone to show up and exercise their right to express themselves and make him feel uncomfortable as I would feel just by sitting there, and having to stare at evil incarnate...

- SundayBrunch, on 07/05/2008, -22/+8These people are assholes. what is that suppose to accomplish?? Just goes to show how clueless homosexual libtards are.
- TheFinaleofSeem, on 07/05/2008, -3/+7You had me with the first sentence. Your second made me shake my head. Acting like a stupid ***** wont convince anyone. Hey, doesn't that sound familiar?
- SundayBrunch, on 07/05/2008, -6/+2I'm have no idea what you're alluding to. I seriously doubt that those people aren't libtards and some of them are very likely to be homsexuals.

- kmlove, on 07/05/2008, -15/+12***** like this will happen, no matter who is president, nobody will ever like the president, unless everyone is lying. I'm not a fan nor hater of Bush, but I will listen to what politicians say, and not make an ass of myself doing something as idiotic as these people.
- nuentendu, on 07/05/2008, -2/+3As idiotic as it was, it's still free speech.
- Franswahili, on 07/05/2008, -1/+5Listening to politicians is making an ass of yourself, lol.
- nedzeve, on 07/05/2008, -1/+3HA! He's got your there, kmlove.

- solidcube, on 07/05/2008, -2/+3If you don't hate Bush you have had your head in the sand for the last 8 years. For something incontrovertible, compare gasoline prices to what they were before the war.
- kmlove, on 07/05/2008, -2/+1And who ultimately helps with gas prices? Congress, you can't blame everything on the President, no matter who it is. I hated Clinton, but did I bitch about how he closed many Air Force bases in the area, cutting thousands of jobs? Nope.
- solidcube, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1No, I blame Bush's war. I blame Bush for leading us into the war with his constant lies.
Air Force bases are not there to provide jobs. Sorry but it's true. We don't have an army to improve the economy. In fact, the military is a GIGANTIC sink of resources. Half of the federal budget goes to military spending,
The United States spends almost as much on the military as the rest of the world COMBINED. And what do we get for all our tax money? $5 gas, coming soon.
- unusualbob, on 07/05/2008, -3/+35Thomas jefferson once said he would rather celebrate the 4th of july than his own birthday.
Benjamin Franklin once said "the man who trades freedom for security does not deserve nor will he ever receive either"- nedzeve, on 07/05/2008, -1/+4Abraham Lincoln once said, "If you are a racist, I will attack you with the North."
- dondara, on 07/05/2008, -3/+1Sucker. Lincoln didn't really care about slavery. The south had abundant resources the Northern factories needed and their exit from the union would have been costly.
History is written by the winners. The civil war, like all wars, was about money.

- sara308, on 07/05/2008, -11/+14Wow the freedom of speech ammendment is actually in unrestricted action. Whatever happened to "Don't tase me, bro!"?
Bush should have been impeached a long time ago. - AWBoy666, on 07/05/2008, -18/+11I hope you all realized how much the crowd clapped after Bush said that we believe in free speech.......
At least you commies have to give Bush credit for actually acknowledging the interruption! Think about that for a moment......someone just screamed that you should just get impeached, and yet you still have the conviction to say that we believe in free speech! That takes some strength.- quakken, on 07/05/2008, -7/+2He has composure. I'll give him that. but he doesn't have the smarts.
Aw well. I'm sure he probably could have been worse, but it's not like he tried to be bad, he was misguided by his advisers and twisted logic. - gobbleplex, on 07/05/2008, -10/+8And of course that "free speech" gets her sent to jail because it wasn't in a "free speech zone."
What is your definition of free, again?- stoobywon, on 07/05/2008, -4/+9She wasnt arrested! She was asked to leave because she was interrupting other people trying to listen to the speech.
- Bob24, on 07/05/2008, -6/+21He mentions this while 4+ officers drag this woman away for exercising that free speech.
Code Pink or not, annoying or not, idiots or not, these events are the only opportunities anyone ever gets to speak truth to power. So don't give me this ***** that "there's a time and a place" for speaking out.
Because apart from these events, in order to garner attention, there quite simply isn't.- AWBoy666, on 07/05/2008, -3/+2Let's see......she was causing a public disturbance during a properly scheduled function. She had no right to do that. Free speech does not mean you can just cause a ruckus and rush a stage whenever you want.
PS: She wasn't arrested, just kicked out. - Bob24, on 07/14/2008, -0/+1Show me the exact point in my comment where I stated she had been arrested.

- sassip, on 07/05/2008, -4/+9It wasn't a hand-picked crowd, what else could he have said, "lock 'em up in gitmo?" Bush has strength, that is true, but is very misguided. He has animal courage perhaps, though he often didn't show up for his tour of duty, but his moral courage is blinded by his messianic penchant for "nation building," a path he said he would not follow. Bush's brand of strength has sold us out to corporate greed and just might end us up like the commies you're so fond of pointing out. Reagan helped to ideologically defeat the Soviet Union, but in the end, they went broke...
- davetkoch, on 07/05/2008, -4/+11It's easy to pay lip-service to the concept of free speech while the Bush administration's ACTIONS have proven otherwise over the course of 8 years while our freedoms have slipped away. I do applaud the president, though-- thinking on his feet for once by offering a quick witted retort in contrast to his typical oh-so *eloquent and well-formed* remarks...
And if you haven't heard, 'stacking-the-deck' at rallies and speeches is a very common practice with this administration.
Please just take a moment and reflect on the meaning of the 4th of July, how the concept of the United States of America differs from its current implementation, and what we can all do to improve the world we live in. You will find that you and I have much more in common that you do with this corrupt corporo-fascist cabal.
Happy Independence Day weekend. - LenBaird, on 07/05/2008, -2/+3No it takes a shameless liar, if it is Bush saying it.
- Lomstradamus, on 07/05/2008, -3/+3Take your empty Bush defending ***** elsewhere. Look what the Repthuglican party has done to our country in 7 1/2 years.
You've ruined our country and its going to take decades to undo all the damage.
- quakken, on 07/05/2008, -7/+2He has composure. I'll give him that. but he doesn't have the smarts.
- jbenson2, on 07/05/2008, -15/+10The Code Pink characters are hurting their image more than helping it.
- Franswahili, on 07/05/2008, -3/+4The media and misinformed haters are hurting their image, but to me they look just fine.
- blacktriangle, on 07/05/2008, -16/+27What's with all of the Bush supporters? I thought you guys were too brain dead to figure of how to use a computer.
- slyzxx, on 07/05/2008, -3/+7Most were just there to become citizens probably happy someone told em to shutty
- SweatyGooch, on 07/05/2008, -3/+4After reading countless of posts, I don't know where you're seeing the 'Bush supporters'. So if someone 'defends' him, they're supporting them? God, I hate the logic in some people. Either way, you should start thinking for yourself.. and not following the "look at me, I hate Bush!" trend, it's getting really old now.
And please, don't just assume that I'm brown nosing the guy.- jlfb, on 07/05/2008, -2/+3I guess we shouldn't jump on the old "torture is immoral!" bandwagon either, eh-SWEATYGOOCH???
- tvanwyk, on 07/05/2008, -5/+2They're still riding high on the jingoism of the lie of the 4th of July, perhaps? Odd what a dose of this "patriotism" ***** does to poison reason.
- TheKarmaPolice, on 07/05/2008, -6/+19that video just showed the code pink people, but there were more protesters than that as there should be).
i'm a virginian, and i have gotten several emails from the DNC saying that i could show up and protest. i didn't but i'm grateful for those who did so in a non-annoying and pink way. good for them for exercising free speech -- something thomas jefferson encouraged.- TheFinaleofSeem, on 07/05/2008, -7/+5Exactly. Protest in a way that's not going to needlessly piss other people off. Don't start yelling and screaming and rushing the stage when people are trying to listen to the speaker.
- bradspangler, on 07/05/2008, -2/+6That's kind of one sided. Why should people protesting their government not be able to be disruptive when the government gets to act disruptively all of the time? Ever watch the TV show COPS? Those guys act very rude, with all of that door-busting
