Report: Senator suffers stroke
michellemalkin.com — It's unconfirmed, but word is that U.S. Senator Tim Johnson (D-S.D.) has suffered a stroke. First and foremost, keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers. There's already a rush to calculate the political consequences in the Senate. Left-wing blog Raw Story has details:

- dahat, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9As a South Dakotan I am forced to wonder who Mike Rounds (Governor) would appoint to fill the job if Johnson were to be unable to serve.
While I doubt it’d happen... I wouldn’t be surprised to have Rounds resign and see the Lt Governor Dennis Daugaard become Governor and appoint Rounds for the job.
It is speculated by quite a few that Rounds has his eye on a congressional or Senatorial seat in 2008 (Senate or house) or 2010 (House (wouldn’t run against Thune))... so this could be a pretty easy way for him to make that step up... of course he did just win a Gubernatorial election last month... so that move would tick off the people of this state to no end... not to mention Jack Billion who lost to Rounds. - sonofdy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Best luck and wishes to him.
- mgarde, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10It should be noted that Mike Rounds (Governor) is a Republican - Not to jump to far ahead, no family ever wants to deal with a bad stroke, the best of luck.
- tdaxp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I agree with Dahat. If the worst does happen, Rounds is an obvious choice. But then again, he is from Pierre, and may love state government too much.
Pray for Tim Johnson. He's a good man.

- Euangelion, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Did you read the DU link? All these compassionate libs care about is retaining a democrat sseat
- valeyard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I have noted there has been far more speculation on DEMOCRAT side about losing the seat than losing the man.
It's disgusting, but it is typical of the power brokering in Washington.
If the Dems do lose the Senate, they will be hoist on their own petard as they gained the Senate in 2001, through their own dirty tricks. They will have no place to complain. - PatrickBurns, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I am a Republican all the way, but I think that politics should be the last thing on anyone's mind in a situation like this. Indeed, prayers for his life and recovery should be the order of the day.
