The Declaration of Independence (Drug War Revision)
stash.norml.org — Eleven score and a dozen years ago the United States of America began with the Declaration of Independence. There will be much reflection on our founding document today. Our Founders pledged their lives to stand up for their natural rights and fight together against the tyranny of an oppressive and unresponsive government.

- SIRBERUS, on 07/05/2008, -2/+1I honestly thank God I live in such an amazing state as California which recognizes the reality of Marijuana.
- aesguerra, on 07/05/2008, -2/+1As a kid, I always join oration contest in our school with two masterprieces. First the the Declaration of Independence, Four Score and Seven Years ago and other was "Charge of the Light Brigade"
My classmates were astonished as I kept repeating yet kept winning the said contest.
When I close, I always say to them until we understand the true meaning and embodiment of these ideals notwithstanding slavery, equality and patriotism will ever find the light of the light brigade". - rareimagery, on 07/05/2008, -2/+2Honestly, whether you're pro or con on marijuana is really not the issue..It's states rights vs. federal rights..Our system was designed to have a decentralized government with checks and balances with the 3 branches of gov. Prop 215 passed by 56% of the voters in California in 1996, and the Feds go "No, NO, you can't be affecting the bottom line of Merck, and we have all these agencies and prisons and drug rehabs that need to stay active".. They tell us to walk it off...
bud.- nowsamsara, on 07/05/2008, -1/+2I disagree Imagery. I think it's not state vs federal but more like "peoples rights" and the issue of personal liberty which is guaranteed to us in the U.S. [Federal] Constitution. :)
I am a staunch Libertarian in this way. As long as I live I should be able to do anything at all in this world to me, myself, my body, my brain...withOUT harming anyone else legally, economically, physically, etc.
But the bottom line is we're still in a "religious" system where playing god and objective morality is par for the course. I heard threats of trying to restrict the herb, St. Johns Wort...but they let Vioxx and Oxycontin get approved and prescribed by doctors working for big pharma.
So you see. The don't panic it's organic herbs [St Johns Wort, pot, etc...] isn't man-made. Money wouldn't be had. Anyone could grow it. Ergo, US couldn't profit off of it. Hence, it will remain illegal until the American people start screaming at the top of their lungs and demanding the liberties endowed to us by our creator. [NOT endowed to us by big pharma.]
