The New York Post Publishes McCain's Error-Filled Op-Ed
thinkprogress.org — While the Times wanted something “new” from McCain, the New York Post — owned by Rupert Murdoch — has no problem republishing McCain campaign talking points — even if they’re not totally accurate. Today, the Post published McCain’s rejected article in its entirety.

- qdkk, on 07/22/2008, -8/+34I just noticed how cute and stubby are McCain's fingers ... looks like he's doing magic. Or at least trying to pull the wool over your eyes.
- sockpuppets, on 07/23/2008, -0/+10He's taking the constitution to Isengard!
- mikephimikephi, on 07/23/2008, -1/+8I'd like to show him how to make a pencil disappear
- CybrMike, on 07/23/2008, -10/+5Small Hands. Big Dick.
- CryRightardCry, on 07/23/2008, -1/+3That's not how it works.
But a lot of guys with tiny hands will try to convince you of that.
- CryRightardCry, on 07/23/2008, -1/+3That's not how it works.
- Harbinger67, on 07/23/2008, -0/+5He's resorting to Jedi mind tricks to win the election.
- blankoboy, on 07/23/2008, -1/+5except he's only tricking himself with those baby penis fingers.
- RRJackson, on 07/23/2008, -9/+3For his next trick he'll win the election in November.
- danfive555, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3No, for his next trick he'll give an error-filled concession speech.
- DigitalPimptres, on 07/23/2008, -2/+3You know they say your wang is twice the size of your thumb... I don't think she stays with him for that. He must have something else up his sleeve.
That's a really short looking thumb in the pic.
- poprocksandsoda, on 07/23/2008, -30/+5Props to the NYT for publishing his editorial. Whether you think it is accurate or not is besides the point. The most important thing is that major media continues to provide candidates with an opportunity to get their message out; this includes Libertarians, Green Party, etc. I'm an American first and a Republican second, so I want a chance to hear from all groups looking to better our country.
- vat0r, on 07/23/2008, -0/+14Switch the T with a P and you MAY get a little respect.
- inboxnews, on 07/23/2008, -0/+8Um, the NYT didn't publish his Op-Ed, the NY Post did.
- poprocksandsoda, on 07/23/2008, -4/+1That's my whole point, it's criticism.
- Mononuclear, on 07/23/2008, -1/+10the NYT didn't publish it, the New York Post did. While all should be able to get their message out the media has no responsibility to publish factually incorrect information. They actually have a responsibility to fact check and make sure the information they publish is correct. I prefer that the things I read in the news have been checked and are true.
- poprocksandsoda, on 07/23/2008, -3/+1I think I'm well aware it's the Post and not the Times considering I'm in NYC. My point is to criticize the fact that the NYT is only representing their political views. It's not really worth losing sleep since print media is dying and 1-sided propogandists like the NYT won't make it through the decade with this approach.
- pnunn, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1@poprocksandsoda- look- don't try to turn it into a larger point. you ***** up. Leave it there. Your geographic location doesn't change the fact that you gave "Props to the NYT for publishing his editorial." That would be the reason why you have to say something more like "oops- I meant post" and not "that was my whole point!" Looks pretty weak. You never criticized NYT- you gave them props. Pay attention to yourself if you are going to expect everyone else to listen to you.
There are plenty of morons living in NYC and being one of them in no way corrects your error. It isn't a big deal- so just accept that you ***** up and proofread/fact check next time.
- stagmire, on 07/23/2008, -4/+10If McCain wants to spread falsehoods about Obama the proper way to do it is to buy up air time on TV instead of trying to free ride off the NY Times' credibility.
- Drogoganor, on 07/23/2008, -7/+9I guess we'll hear a retraction of all that contrived outrage huh?
- inboxnews, on 07/23/2008, -28/+10How can an Op-Ed be "error-filled"? It's an OPINION piece.
- HotDogBun, on 07/23/2008, -4/+35Easily, you just back up your opinion with 'facts' that aren't even true, often referred to as 'lies'.
- trotskyist, on 07/23/2008, -3/+25You are entitled to your own opinion, not your own facts.
- JigoroKano, on 07/23/2008, -2/+3You have AIDS.
--- JigoroKano's opinion piece. - IKORKYI, on 07/23/2008, -1/+2did you even read it before posting?
- CryRightardCry, on 07/23/2008, -1/+3LOL
Ladies and gentleman, this is the most useful insight into the right wing extremist mind we've had to date.
They think LYING is ok, because they pretend it's OPINION.
I'm not surprised the right wing doesn't get it, they lack morals, ethics, and integrity.
Inboxnews, lying is lying, period.
You can lie and pretend the lie is your opinion, but that doesn't change the fact that you are lying and trying to mask it as an "opinion".
The rightard claim that obama is a muslim isn't OPINION, it's a lie. There is nothing factual to back it up, but the right wing pushes it because in their bigoted little minds being muslim will hurt his chances. Again, still not opinion, you guys KNOW it's false and say it anyway.
I realize you are rationalizing the lies you tell in an attempt to not have to face the fact that you are a dishonest liar with no integrity, but it's not going to work.
Lies labeled "opinion" are still lies and deserve to be treated as such.
So are you proud of yourself when you try to derail conversations about integrity and honesty?
It's pretty revolting the way you right wing scumbags think that lies are ok if you call them something else.
I guess it's a big part of why you dumbasses are failing in a historically significant way.
After the dust settles you rightards will be regarded with the same disgust we now regard the people who harrassed black schoolkids back in the day. - pnunn, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1@inboxnews
Q: How can an Op-Ed be error filled?
A: Let McCain write it. (I simplified this for your sake)
That's one less question you'll have to wrestle with at night. Now read the damn article before you post anymore stupid questions.
- HotDogBun, on 07/23/2008, -13/+5That pretty much seals it - the only way Obama can lose the election is if he mysteriously dies before it happens.
- Marumekomu, on 07/23/2008, -7/+11Or if, you know, he gets out-voted by McCain.
Republicans? In MY America? It's more likely than you think.- HotDogBun, on 07/23/2008, -3/+13Not happening. Getting shot down by and subsequently captured by the enemy is not a qualification for being a president. McCain is a stooge, and americans have learned their lesson when it comes to stooge presidents.
- Kanten, on 07/23/2008, -4/+7People don't need to think, it's common knowledge that they've been destroying the country for 8 years.
- Marumekomu, on 07/23/2008, -7/+11Or if, you know, he gets out-voted by McCain.
- Chip53, on 07/23/2008, -24/+7Don't break your arms patting yourselves on the back Obamaheads. A LOT of people just plain DON'T LIKE Obie and that includes some democrats. The liberal press is riding shotgun for this rookie and people are starting to notice.
- Drogoganor, on 07/23/2008, -2/+15I'm sorry, I couldn't make out what you said through all that demagoguery.
- enki25, on 07/23/2008, -2/+7More people don't like McCain. That's the point of political polling, which Obama is winning. What does that have to do with this article?
- pnunn, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1@Chip53-
Maybe when you get an eligible candidate you would have someone to defend instead of your cryptic empty threat to the "liberal media." You are off topic because you have NO defense. Nice buzzwords though.
EDIT 01:
Between the idiot and the rookie, I'll go rookie. (PS- experience pays ***** to the American people so far...) Hell, I'll even ride shotgun for it. Now, get back to your lovely meal of sour grapes...
- duggdowncatisad, on 07/23/2008, -4/+25I'm feeling the urge to download the PDF, get out a red pen, correct it like a teacher, and reupload the result for the lulz
- charm803, on 07/23/2008, -1/+14I'd digg you if you did.
- Bawbzilla, on 07/23/2008, -0/+6Agreed, this would be pretty amusing.
- apextek, on 07/23/2008, -1/+6put your pen where your keyboard is.
- redslash, on 07/23/2008, -0/+9make sure to use MSPaint
- Chirp08, on 07/23/2008, -0/+4I'd be interested in that just to learn a bit more about how he is skewing the facts. That way when someone comes up to me I'm better informed.
Also I shall lol.
- charm803, on 07/23/2008, -1/+14I'd digg you if you did.
- stagmire, on 07/23/2008, -5/+11"He makes it sound as if Maliki has endorsed his timetable - when the Iraqi prime minister has merely said that he’d like a plan for the eventual withdrawal of US troops at some unspecified future point."
Is anyone buying this line? - BLish, on 07/23/2008, -0/+43i actually work for the NY Post and i can tell you the reason the letter was published didn't really have to do with the fact of Rupert Murdoch owns the Post ... it's because the NY Post, is more of a controversial type of paper. They enjoy stirring up shiat ... including this unpublished letter from the NY Times.
They would be fools not to publish something like this that has stirred up so much interest and curiosity around the country.
It's all about distribution and sales.- rdmorley, on 07/23/2008, -0/+6though i disagree with the content, you provide a good point and can't disagree on that. i do dislike the post though, but, i will give it to you, best sports in town for sure
- DiggRational, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2Yeah, I agree - even if it is a Republican newspaper, they would have sold their own mother if it meant more sales. Still, in an ideal world there should be such a thing as journalistic integrity and standards - it isn't the point that McCain attacked Obama, it's that he did so with blatantly false 'facts'. But then again, in an ideal world, we wouldn't have had Bush, Fox 'News', Bill O'Rielly, Rupert Murdoch, Cheney et al, and people would vote based on a rational thought process rather than hate, ignorance and utter, utter stupidity. Ahhh...idealism eh
- Kanten, on 07/23/2008, -2/+10Because Murdoch has established such a reputation as a trustworthy guy.
- cheezintern, on 07/23/2008, -0/+7of course his fox news is the pillar of journalistic integrity.
- LukasSmith, on 07/23/2008, -20/+6Oh yeah lets have a field day making fun of McCain's idea's because I am so sure you all read Obama's ideas when they were published without complaint by a clearly biased paper. Not. I would be surprised if you people read more then Digg.com. Yup the ultimate source of crap news.
- Drogoganor, on 07/23/2008, -3/+5BAWWWWWWWWWWW
- cklein121, on 07/23/2008, -3/+7Then why are you on digg.com (the ultimate source of crap news)?
- LukasSmith, on 07/23/2008, -4/+2Why not? Why do people read the National Enquirer?
- neonoodle, on 07/23/2008, -1/+8Cause they're idiots?
- LukasSmith, on 07/23/2008, -5/+1well if they believe it to be true yes they are.
- cadmiumpaint, on 07/23/2008, -6/+9Who's that guy? oh yeah....the other dude running for president that nobody really notices.
- knumbknuts, on 07/23/2008, -11/+5Oh, the guy who's been in the Senate longer than 3 years?
4 months is a long time for Obama to play prevent defense with a 3 point lead.- cadmiumpaint, on 07/23/2008, -1/+7Well i think you missed the point that McCain is about as exciting as day old oatmeal.
- knumbknuts, on 07/23/2008, -11/+5Oh, the guy who's been in the Senate longer than 3 years?
- SverigesKung, on 07/23/2008, -4/+7Does not matter at all. He can make any mistakes he wants. He can get drunk and hit his head on the coffee table and get interviewed with band aid on his face and still get elected president. Your hope doesn't matter. Your money doesn't matter.
Unless you gave it to Diebold! - algaeturd, on 07/23/2008, -5/+14AWESOME! The ignorance that flies out of this old codger's mouth never fails to AMAZE me...especially that people would even CONSIDER him for President of the United States of America. He can't speak, he can't write...he gets timelines, facts, names and dates mixed up every time he gives a speech.
What exactly DOES this man know? He admitted to not knowing the economy and foreign policy on a nationally televised debate. He's a war hero? So that qualifies him to be a president of a country?
I THINK NOT>
This man isn't qualified to manage a McDonald's. That right wing pride of yours is going to ruin the country even further. What's the matter? Economy still a bit too 'active' for your right-wing tastes? You want to see the whole ship sink before you'll be happy?
Republicans blow my mind; they really do. It's hard to fathom such gluttony for punishment when it comes to the people they select to run what used to be the greatest nation on Earth, now hovering somewhere around 'the biggest punchline with most worthless currency' mark. You guys are awesome. Republicans did a SMASH UP job these past 8 years. Just AMAZING. No. Really.- cheezintern, on 07/23/2008, -0/+5..but look at him. I just want to sit down and play checkers with him and hear about 'Nam.
- neonoodle, on 07/23/2008, -1/+4Quit being a dick. I'm sure he'd make a great McDonald's manager.
- amoirae, on 07/23/2008, -0/+5Or a Walmart greeter.
- pnunn, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1I don't know, both Mickey D's and Wally World are using computers now...
- alvination, on 07/23/2008, -11/+4I didn't read Obama's thing, I won't read this. But I'm glad it's both out there if I ever decide to be pro-active in anything. THX
- lamiaconfitor, on 07/23/2008, -3/+2You, sir are a tool. And a disgrace to the Church of Alvian Scientists.
- cklein121, on 07/23/2008, -0/+6People like you, who vote blindly or not at all, are the reason that an incompetent, oil/war loving monster (Cheney) runs this country.
- BotchaMcCoola, on 07/23/2008, -1/+1That can work out for good if you vote Libertarian.
- lamiaconfitor, on 07/23/2008, -3/+2You, sir are a tool. And a disgrace to the Church of Alvian Scientists.
- lamiaconfitor, on 07/23/2008, -7/+5Where is your God now?!
- insomniac8400, on 07/23/2008, -4/+4So competition rescues McCain's dumb article. He is probably the last guy who deserves to benefit from competition.
- redslash, on 07/23/2008, -8/+6Umm, I just read the whole op-ed the other day. It was not error-filled. TP is nitpicking here... most of what they said against his editorial is just criticizing his opinion (yeah, Obama met with military leaders, but is he really listening? well, that's opinion).
Buried for an inaccurate headline. - caishiren, on 07/23/2008, -3/+1good!
- Maevirko69, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1JOHN TITOR WAS RIGHT
- barktwiggs, on 07/23/2008, -8/+4The same newspaper which endorsed McCain for President during the primary season, was for McCain before it was against him.
Just like Obama was against the surge before he was for it, then against it again.
Make up your minds people!- brainflakes, on 07/23/2008, -1/+4Did you win any McCain Online Action Center Points for that?
- barktwiggs, on 07/23/2008, -2/+1No, actually. Do you accuse everyone of sock-puppetry because you are unable to form a valid counterpoint?
- pnunn, on 07/24/2008, -1/+1How about this for a valid counterpoint?- Expecting media outlets and candidates to change their opinions on issues as new information is presented to them is EXACTLY what I want. We're wrapping 8 years with an administration that doesn't yield to information and maintains opinions formed long ago on a daily basis despite anything new that comes to light- and it has gotten us ***** all save for excessive military spending and and gross expenditures in private contractors overseas as well as strengthening alliances between governments and corporations that do not serve the interests of this nation or its people.
You made no point save for pointing out an opinion change on behalf of a newspaper and then trying to distract from the issue by criticizing Obama (and we never get tired of that one!) - how do you figure you are entitled to a counterpoint?
Actually I would go with "butt-puppet" or "McCain's mindless *****-puppet" over "sock puppet" in your case- but that's cause you're such a special guy...
- brainflakes, on 07/23/2008, -1/+4Did you win any McCain Online Action Center Points for that?
- DigitalPimptres, on 07/23/2008, -2/+4Okay, if the NEW YORK POST is publishing your article... is there anything else more to say?
- TheInformer, on 07/23/2008, -4/+5When Obama isn't looking at a teleprompter or following a predefined script, he doesn't look so good. McCain's not perfect either. Deal with it.
I'm sorry. Obama is perfect, according to the articles published on Digg, Huffingtonpost, Thinlprogress, Dailykos, et. al. Since he is perfect then McCain can be judged imperfect.
Spam. Buried. - mattmollysdad, on 07/23/2008, -1/+4get over it. we wouldn't have had Ronald Reagan unless Gerald Ford lost to Jimmy the Geek Carter... and so it will be. No one I know gives a ***** for McCain. When Obama wins if out Country can pull it together and improve we all will celebrate no matter what party. If he screws up like Mr. Carter then we (the Conservatives) will finally wake up and find someone young, honest, and brilliant to run. Again let me repeat... the election is over before it started.
- sheffrey, on 07/23/2008, -2/+1Wow, what a bunch of liberal talking heads. Do you guys even read all your bias and group think coming out of your finger tips? Even the title of this dig is biased. The surge was the right thing to do and it worked. Obama was wrong and is still wrong. Buried for bad headline.
- dinot, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2The ghosts of the 1,039 soldiers who have been killed since Feb. 2007 would like to tell you to shove your "surge" right up your ass.
So now, as opposed to being an "absolute disaster", it's only "kind of a disaster". Iraq is as stable as when Bush declared "Mission Accomplished". Hoo-*****-ray. - nydwarf, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2Yeah too bad it was in the wrong country. Try Afghanistan next time.
- dinot, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2The ghosts of the 1,039 soldiers who have been killed since Feb. 2007 would like to tell you to shove your "surge" right up your ass.
