"Trees vs. Solar Panels" Battle, the Trees Have Won
mercurynews.com — Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Tuesday signed into law a bill that guarantees if California property owners plant a tree before a neighbor installs solar panels on their roof, then the neighbor can't require the tree to be cut or trimmed, even if it grows to cast shade on the panels.

- dave11980, on 07/23/2008, -0/+8I honestly don't see why you neighbor should be able to make you cut a tree on your property down for any reason. To me this law shouldn't have even been required and it shouldn't matter who did what first. Does private property have no value any longer?
- earthandeconomy, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3Comcast 1, Dish 0...so what happens when the trees start to interfere with wind turbines? I say ditch the Dish and go Turbines!
- granolajoe, on 07/23/2008, -0/+5Thank God. That ***** that was suing his neighbors should rot in hell. I can't believe the poor couple had to spend 37K on legal fees AND cut down their trees. Redwoods, no less.
- kazz67, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3Not only are trees living beings, they also make fine carbon sinks.
Plant more trees! :o) - FrankHope, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1The trees are better at collecting solar energy than man-made solar panels. They solar collectors (leaves) are designed to bend in the wind. They can store the energy in chemical form (photosynthesis) for later use. I refer to this as alien technology, because we do not have the technology to manufacture something like this ourselves.
