WTF McCain, Gotcha Journalism? watch!
youtube.com — Papa bear John McCain tries to rescue Sarah Palin on the Katie Couric interview.
- 2187 diggs
- digg it
- damotts, on 09/30/2008, -5/+171It's the most pathetic performance ever.
- diggproof, on 10/01/2008, -1/+30I keep trying to figure out how his campaign could get even more pathetic, and almost like clockwork it just keeps happening in new and wonderful ways. At this rate, by November 1st he'll literally be begging people to vote for him.
- Pinkertinkle, on 10/01/2008, -0/+20But she read ALL the newspapers.
- jeffvvisoft, on 10/01/2008, -0/+21What, Governor Palin can't do an interview alone now?
I thought being in the PTA and shooting animals from low flying aircraft was enough experience to be a VP?- Dipsomaniac, on 10/01/2008, -0/+10Well, let's face it.
If someone thinks that asking Palin simple questions about foreign policy is 'gotcha' journalism, they're probably not going to let her appear by herself.
- Dipsomaniac, on 10/01/2008, -0/+10Well, let's face it.
- Layne, on 10/01/2008, -0/+14This might be true until the Thursday VP debate. Then, probably not.
- marshallpeck, on 10/01/2008, -0/+11ooooo I can't ***** wait
- dn11, on 10/01/2008, -0/+26voters at pizza places are destroying this country. Enough of their elitist lies and manipulation.
- Phendrana, on 10/01/2008, -0/+17It's been 1 day and I've already seen McCain supporters use "Gotcha Journalism" in an argument. I think I'm going to *****.
- jeffvvisoft, on 10/01/2008, -2/+1yeah, right up there with Battlefield Earth.
- biotch, on 10/01/2008, -0/+7Palin loves to abruptly answer interrupting the interviewer before shes done talking... Shes trying to hard to sound like shes on top of things when she's obviously clueless about the most important issues this nation faces.... reminds me of some of the more obnoxious people I run into from time to time.
- BigDigg55, on 10/01/2008, -0/+7Thinking about fundamentally significant questions that have a serious effect on all our lives + asking them = "Gotcha Journalism"
- Dylson, on 10/01/2008, -0/+5GOTCHA BITCH!
- Supergaxx, on 10/01/2008, -0/+5Did Palin basically call all of pakistan terrorists?
- Godlike, on 10/01/2008, -0/+4Oh come on, everyone knows that unless it's candandadia or western Europe (where dem english peoples from dun speak like us) that they are all terrorists. Oh yeah, and weird japanese.
- CandidateZero, on 10/01/2008, -0/+3You and I may recognize it as pathetic, but... does the "average American?" I fear the answer may be a no.
- deherbs, on 10/01/2008, -0/+5Wait a min, katie asked a simple question to clarify, they went on a long rant about gotcha journalism, outta context, then another long speel about how palin is so great...
they didn't even answer the question let alone dance around it like most politicians
WTF! - nick1971, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1Unfortunately dammots this was not the worst interview that she has given. Embodying the virtues of the asinine, the vacuous and the hebetudinous her inability to communicate is frightening. This would be the woman who has a 1/3 chance of having to take over the presidency based upon McCain's age and health record.
Do we really want to have a VP who can't stand up for themselves in an interview which in my opinion is with a non aggressive interviewer. - northwatuppa, on 10/02/2008, -0/+1Don't rush too judgment. Where Palin is concerned, the competition for most pathetic performance is keen.
- diggproof, on 10/01/2008, -1/+30I keep trying to figure out how his campaign could get even more pathetic, and almost like clockwork it just keeps happening in new and wonderful ways. At this rate, by November 1st he'll literally be begging people to vote for him.
- Aslan72, on 09/30/2008, -3/+228"Gotcha Journalism" translates as "I fundamentally don't understand the media, or the ability to talk to people in the public so I'm going to give my naivety a funny name so I can dismiss it.
- MachineMessiah, on 10/01/2008, -0/+67Seriously. Accusing KATIE COURIC of "Gotcha Journalism" is like kicking a puppy.
- Aroundtheworls, on 10/01/2008, -0/+9Gotta love the whiny sarcastic voice she uses when repeating the question given to her by that voter.
- mikehe12, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2Damning new interview with the Des Moines Register. He basically does the same thing here, is rude and hostile toward his interviewers. Apparently, any negative comment is "just an opinion", which he "respects", meaning pays absolutely no attention to. He just flatly denies any charges and is absolutely unwilling to admit anything, not Palin's inexperience, not lies/distortions in his ads, not even that some conservatives are wary about Palin.
http://digg.com/political_opinion/Damning_videos_M ... - Markp487, on 10/01/2008, -0/+5End quote.
- OMFGitsTHematt, on 10/02/2008, -0/+0I'm hot wings and thats what i think.
- dropbox, on 10/01/2008, -0/+7This will undoubtedly turn into yet another McCain hypocrisy. He wants the media to look the other way when someone in his own campaign makes a mistake. Yet, he will freely attack any gaffe made by Obama or Biden.
It's the media's job to be ruthlessly observant and analytical. Their duty is to point out the truth, lies and mistakes; giving opinions and criticism on all three. Why should they assume any niceties in doing so?
I want to add, as a side note, that I'm watching Larry King -- right now. And the overwhelming response, coming from republican voices, is, "Palin may be inexperienced, but she has GREAT leadership skills and the American people are feeling they can identify with her more based on her judgment." What the *****? Like being a hockey mom with the ability to coach a team and become governor gives you the experience to lead this country? The republicans were blasting Obama over his perceived lack of experience just a few months ago. These people are complete hypocrites... - julianpowers, on 10/02/2008, -0/+0If you can label something it can be "demonized".
- hydroplane, on 09/30/2008, -6/+138pew pew
- puzzud, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2haha... you're right. "pew pew" will be used from this moment on for situations like these :)
http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/SNL_Couric_inter ...
This is hilarious! - Berkana, on 10/01/2008, -0/+4Palin didn't only make her remark about going after Al Qaeda/Taliban in Pakistan when asked in the pizza place; she made the same remark when asked by Charlie Gibson. I can see why a casual remark in a restaurant answering a question of some random voter might not be a definitive policy statement, but when the answer is given in an interview in the course of running for an office, it pretty much can't be anything but.
- elislider, on 10/01/2008, -1/+1its
pew pew pew! *ting*
- puzzud, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2haha... you're right. "pew pew" will be used from this moment on for situations like these :)
- berational, on 09/30/2008, -4/+105Oh the hypocrisy! After Palin comes off looking stupid in her interviews and she is confronted on double speak the McCain campaign says the fault is "Gotcha Journalism".
It is like watching a bad magic show. It's all BS!- badastronaut, on 10/01/2008, -1/+10You know, the "good" magic shows are also BS.
- nickallen74, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1True but the good magic shows give you the illusion that it isn't ***** even if you know it is. Something McCain and Palin are definately not doing!
- berational, on 10/02/2008, -0/+1Good Point. Should have been a new paragraph.
Actually at this point I wouldn't mind if the politicians at least put on a good magic show. That was something I liked about Obama before I got to know his policies a bit better. He is the kind of guy that could feed you BS and it tastes like Fillet Mignon.
Obama/Biden 08!
- badastronaut, on 10/01/2008, -1/+10You know, the "good" magic shows are also BS.
- gobbstopp, on 09/30/2008, -2/+151gotcha journalism = regular journalism perceived from the losing end
makes perfect sense to me..- ptemple, on 10/01/2008, -7/+1Customer shouting question across restaurant = regular journalism?
Phillip. - beerock, on 10/01/2008, -7/+2all journalists are scumbags, it goes with the job.
- funkyloki, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1While I might agree with you about a minority of reporters, hardly all of journalists are scum. When they do their job appropriately, they bring stuff that the public would otherwise not know about ton the light of day. A free press is supposed to keep government and business and people honest. The founding fathers understood that.
But it is that type of stereotypical ***** that is a real problem with most of our society. When you lump everyone of a certain industry, age, race, gender, look together to describe something you may have perceived in a couple of people of the particular category, you do them and yourself a disservice - beerock, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1I'm not lumping into anyone into categories, journalists are categorically scumbags.
They purport to know everything about nothing, and I admire people who write the truth, but those are not journalists.
Journalists work for businesses that need to sell full-page car ads, "Free Press" is a myth. You pay for it by consuming the drivel they put out to numb your minds.
- funkyloki, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1While I might agree with you about a minority of reporters, hardly all of journalists are scum. - neonoodle, on 10/01/2008, -0/+3ptemple: No, calling a candidate out on their own words = regular journalism
- NEUTRINO50, on 10/01/2008, -0/+0let's not forget the evils of "gotcha consumerism" - can't believe i have to pay at the checkout for the things i like
- ptemple, on 10/01/2008, -7/+1Customer shouting question across restaurant = regular journalism?
- trogdor1231, on 09/30/2008, -2/+77embarrassing
- jeffvvisoft, on 10/01/2008, -2/+5Guess all that experience from looking at Russia from her house isn't helping out.
- DanBoodro, on 10/01/2008, -1/+2I'm just glad I don't have diabetes.
- Aroundtheworls, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1It certainly is embarrassing.
She is put forth as a candidate for the position of Vice President of the United States- a position of enormous responsibility. However she clearly doesn't know the issues, contradicts herself, can't think on the fly, doesn't have a grasp of foreign relations or domestic issues, and is a disaster during interviews.
This was a gamble by the Republican party that has failed badly.
If she crashes and burns at the debate then watch for her to back out due to personal ('need to take care of the family') reasons and one of McCain's original picks to step in.- Darthyoshiboy, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2Doubtful, they're too dumb and proud to back down now. Even if they weren't, who in their right mind (politically) would want to get on board the sinking ship. If Palin backs out, it destroys any credibility of McCain's campaign, and exposes his brash 'act before thinking' mentality. The 'other picks' have their own careers to think about and they'll avoid getting caught up in such a mess.
- msk275, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1McCain is holding his breath every time she opens her mouth. I'm going to assume he has a high possibility of passing away after this Friday. Prez Palin on the way!
This almost looks like an embarrassing HS student council interview where the candidates have no idea wtf they are saying.
If you bury me, find something positive that Palin has said that can counter this debacle.
- duggtodeath, on 09/30/2008, -1/+32Watch out, Johnny Mac! The journalists are unleashing their gotcha tactic! Gotta catch 'em all! Gotta catch 'em all!
- ryanonfire, on 10/01/2008, -0/+3Don't you mean gotcha strategy
- sk11, on 09/30/2008, -1/+18I've heard something like this before: I had my fingers crossed so it doesn't count.
On a completely unrelated note, ever notice how once cute things can quickly become annoying?- D4r7h3v1l, on 10/01/2008, -2/+6Kitteh sez: no wai!
- john2kx, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1i can has annoying?
- D4r7h3v1l, on 10/01/2008, -2/+6Kitteh sez: no wai!
- algaeturd, on 09/30/2008, -1/+57Gotcha journalism is when a voter asks a question about your position on an issue?
Republicans...let's be honest right now. I know you've been bashed for blindly standing behind an unqualified vice presidential candidate but please...PLEASE tell me you're not dumb enough to buy into this idea. Please. We're talking about the very future of our country and McCain is accusing random voters on the street for using 'gotcha' tactics?
People have lost their ***** minds.- badastronaut, on 10/01/2008, -14/+2They were refering to Couric, not the voter who asked the original question.
- scojac, on 10/01/2008, -1/+6I hope you're kidding about them talking about Couric. This already has so little to do with anything of any real importance to our nation & what course we should be on - don't heap some more ***** on top of what is already a mound that... well.. you can't quite ignore it, but you just can't flush it down fast enough, either.
When will discussion go back to how to bring about more democracy? More equal representation? More equal distribution of wealth?
Why does no one talk about any of these things? Why the endless cycle of absurd claim, identification of absurdness of claim, new absurd claim.... etc. etc., ad nauseum.
For the sake of this country, take your head out of your ass and ask yourself how such trivial ***** became important enough to you to think of a defense for a response, about a response, made by a man who is protecting the response of a woman whose response contradicts the response he gave at an earlier date.
This insanity must end. Now.
- beesaretasty, on 10/01/2008, -1/+1Calling people dumb is never a way to bring them to your side. After that many people will simply stand by their previous idea so they do not acknowledge to you that they made a mistake allowing you to gloat over them.
- badastronaut, on 10/01/2008, -14/+2They were refering to Couric, not the voter who asked the original question.

Gotcha Journalism = It's a trap. - jeffvvisoft, on 10/01/2008, -0/+6Picard to McCain: It's time to beam your running mate into space.
- soulcontrol, on 10/01/2008, -0/+3Well placed.

- doiveo, on 09/30/2008, -2/+30I want to give him the benefit of the doubt and agree that 'gotcha journalism' is nasty nit picking on semantics and out of context sound bites that distract from substantive discussions on policy. Honorable complaint if he didn't play the very same games.
Lapel pins and lipstick any one?- Mononuclear, on 10/01/2008, -1/+5The difference though is lapel pins are an significant issue. Invading Pakistan is very serious.
- cuecat, on 09/30/2008, -0/+35What do you do when you're second in command doesn't agree with you or share your views? Blame the media. For good measure, blame Canada too. They're always causing trouble.

- sfgamergirl, on 10/01/2008, -1/+46I call *****. It's not Gotcha Journalism. More like Razzle Dazzle Politics. They are trying to play blame games to get the weaker reporters to back down. They can't answer a simple question from an American citizen or the press? That's pathetic. Leaders? Please.
- snotrokit, on 10/01/2008, -0/+6not too good at the razzle dazzle either. More like bumbling and stumbling. :)

Then making up some ***** that he is just there to support her. Gotcha Journalism trying to make a mountain out of a molehill.

- montanask8, on 10/01/2008, -1/+5yes McCain appears to be screwed... But to be honest - with either canidate the biggest person that is screwed is YOU. The more time I invest into what these people will actually do and not what they say just to gain your vote is scary! I think I will be voting based off the lesser of two evils...
And I do not know which that is yet...
Suggestions?- Mononuclear, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2Well you could vote 3rd party if you don't want to go with the lesser of two evils but in my opinion Obama, while evil, is much less of an evil.
No one is stopping you from voting for someone you actually want to be president. It won't count for anything because the US voting system is screwed up but you can still vote for whoever you want and not just the lesser of two evils. - hoohah625, on 10/01/2008, -0/+3I'm gonna go with the Harvard attorney and the Delaware attorney rather than the flunky from the US Naval Academy and the one who hopped around at four or five undergraduate institutions.

- puzzud, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2flipp'n red states...
- dissolutionman, on 10/01/2008, -1/+35Gotcha journalism - when a journalist asks you a valid question and your honest answer contradicts talking points.
Ridiculous. - nastronomical, on 10/01/2008, -23/+3 Anyone find it strange that not one NEWS agency is investigating the root causes of the Mortage problem? It just seems so odd. I mean whenever there was a scandal in washington or wallstreet they would go out and get a story. Hmmmmm I wonder if they are trying to cover up for someone..LOL
I am still waiting for CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN and Every other leftwing news org to grill Obama on a interview the way they do to McCain and Palin. I mean what are they afraid of??- jeffvvisoft, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2No more $$$ bailouts for Paulson's cronies at Goldman Sach of *****!
- Miamisun, on 10/01/2008, -0/+3Daily Show will have the investigation complete by Thursday.

- Makaveli, on 10/01/2008, -1/+6Afraid of ?
absolutely nothing ....
but fortunately, there is no major ***** up or even minor ***** up by the Obama camp
for the Mainstream media or the Digg community to grill obama on
when you find something , let me know
cuz i'd love to do a side by side comparison of which one is worse
just guessing but i bet you that even if the Democrats slipped up on something
it would defintely not be as severe as the republican camps ridiculous pick of their VP Candidate Sarah Palin

"Don't you know what gatcha means bitch, It's like a hockey puck that hits you in the face". - Misinformant, on 10/01/2008, -1/+7These jokers could say "how was your day?" was a 'gotcha' question and still keep a straight face about it.
- 3gibberish4q57, on 10/01/2008, -0/+8Pointing out that your running mate holds the same position that you criticized your opponent for having is just cheap "gotcha" journalism? Dammit McCain, I used to think you had integrity.
- DutchGuilder, on 10/01/2008, -4/+3Media bias? Maybe, as the VP debate moderator Gwenn Ifill is releasing pro-Obama book on the day of the inauguration:
http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=7 ...- snotrokit, on 10/01/2008, -1/+1oh crap. I know nothing about this woman, but Faux News is going to have a field day with this one if Palin gets her ass kicked.
- yangYaiMan, on 10/01/2008, -0/+0Gwen Ifil is a tough, no-nonsense journalist, similar to the other guy on PBS.

- thekitchen, on 10/01/2008, -22/+0Lets get out of the way while the libs have a group stroke fest over Palin!!!
Funny, she's as bad as all you say yet the race is still close. What does that say about BO, who's been backed completely by the media? Oh yeah , must be mean old republican racism...yeah, that's it. Nothing to do with his background and own lack of experience. No that can't be it since the media never talks about his lack of experience.
Now back to the stroke fest for all you losers...- highmeh, on 10/01/2008, -0/+7wait, you weren't being sarcastic, were you?
- VicHislop, on 10/01/2008, -1/+11The fact that the race is "close" says nothing about Barack Obama and everything about the American electorate.
- DJetson, on 10/01/2008, -1/+11It says nothing about Obama, what it does say is how dumb you and your ilk actually are. That you don't recognize idiocy when it is sitting across from Katie Couric struggling to come up with answers to the simplest ***** questions is absolutely appalling.
Or maybe you're right. Vast left wing media conspiracy and so forth. Nobody understands it but you and the ever shrinking number of like-minded people who think a woman of, at best, average intelligence should be given any amount of control over this country. - vat0r, on 10/01/2008, -1/+3Jesus man, it's not our fault she's a retard.

- beatitlikeacop, on 10/01/2008, -19/+3Can anyone find a negative article or youtube video about McCain that hasn't made it to Digg's front page?
Now, let's find a single negative article about Obama that has made the front page in the past week? Anyone? Bueller?
Hey, here is an idea. Let's just change digg.com to circlejerk4obama.com
It will be a lot easier for everyone.- thekitchen, on 10/01/2008, -13/+0Right on the money, beatitlikeacop!
It's that key Obama demographic, the hippster, doofus, latte sipping laptop geeks. All with a Got Hope? bumper sticker displyed proudly on their laptops!! You guys and gals know who you are! LOL!!!!!!!- thedrizzle21, on 10/01/2008, -0/+5LOL!!!LMAO!!!!!!SOOOOOOOOO FUNNNNNYYYYY!!!!!!! OH GOD STOP I CANT STOP LAUGHING!!!!!!!!!!AAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

- beatitlikeacop, on 10/01/2008, -9/+0Haha I love it, digg me down without a reply.
BAHHHHHHH :)- stattek, on 10/01/2008, -0/+3You've been here for at least six weeks and haven't submitted a single negative Obama article. Why haven't you done anything to inform the "key Obama Demographic", as thekitchen put it. Looks like you both like to belittle the Digg community's general support of Obama, yet have no really claim against him.
- beatitlikeacop, on 10/01/2008, -6/+0I don't need to submit the articles to see the fact that every anti-Obama article gets pushed to the side to make way for the 7 anti-McCain articles that make the front page every couple of hours.
Every anti-Obama comment gets dugg down, no matter how thought out or politically correct the commenter is. Dare to prove to me wrong? - stattek, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2You mean well thought out points like "Let's just change digg.com to circlejerk4obama.com". Listen, if you can find an honest, well thought out comment against Obama, I'll gladly digg it up for you.
Still, the point stands that you've done surprising little to help your cause, other than bitch about how unfair you think the site is.
- Mononuclear, on 10/01/2008, -0/+3So instead of commenting about the actual article you complain about bias on digg and cry because there are no negative Obama articles? So you do you agree or disagree that McCain calling this "gotcha journalism" is idiotic? You can't refute the article so you just complain about something unrelated?
If you submit some negative Obama articles that are true I will digg every single one for you. Obama has done a lot of stupid things. He isn't perfect. This article has nothing to do with Obama though and is about Palin and McCain.- beatitlikeacop, on 10/01/2008, -2/+0Oh absolutely agree with the article.
I guess my complaint isn't so much about politics, as it is with how this site has lost "it's way."
An article about McCain's make-up artist got more diggs recently than an article about how Obama is letting his half-brother live in a shanty town in Africa on $1 a month!!!!
I used to love this site for the information is spread about ALL sides, not so much anymore. And it's a shame to be honest. - Mononuclear, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1I agree an article about McCain's make-up artists is retarded but so is the article about Obama's half-brother. There are millions of people living in shanty towns in Africa. To Obama, his half-brother is a stranger like anyone else. Is it his responsibility to end poverty in all of Africa? Sorry but if my dad left me when I was young and he had another kid somewhere else I would not consider that kid part of my family. I might not even consider my dad part of my family if he wasn't involved. I wouldn't feel any responsibility to help him out. To me family is very important and I am very close to my family but a stranger that happens to share the same father that isn't part of my life is not family. Family is more than just blood. I have people I consider brothers and sisters that I am not related to by blood.
- beatitlikeacop, on 10/01/2008, -5/+0So if you were a millionaire you wouldn't feel like you should help someone who technically is "blood" related to you? He knew enough about him to reference him in his book didn't he? But not enough to get the guy a decent place to live. How much would that cost him in Africa, honestly?
Or maybe we should get back to digging articles about how McCain has 14 houses. Because lord knows, someone who has money shouldn't enjoy it. I mean for Obama, what's a dollar a month between half brothers? Too much apparently. - Mononuclear, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1No if I was a millionaire I wouldn't feel like I should help someone who isn't part of my family. I would feel like I should help lots of people and would give to charities but I would feel no need to single out one person to help. Find some good charities and donate to them. Let them decide where the money will best help.
Blood has nothing to do with anything. Again family is different than blood. You can be related to someone by blood but never have met them. You can be related by blood and know of their existence but not know them well. You can be related by blood to someone but hate their guts.
You can be not related to someone by blood but love them more than you could any blood relative. You could not be related by blood but consider someone part of your family. Adoption is a good example of no blood relation but being family. Another example are extremely close friends that I consider family. People who have helped raise me I consider second parents. Close friends that I love as family I consider brothers and sisters. I would help them out if they ever needed it because they are family regardless of blood.
You keep assuming that just because they are related by blood he is somehow special and should be treated like family. You don't know Obama's relationship with him, and it seems pretty obvious that to Obama he isn't considered as family. He is just like any other random person you would meet on the street. - beatitlikeacop, on 10/01/2008, -3/+0Then we just have different definitions of family. But once again, I'll say that obviously he felt some kind of relationship towards his half-brother since he felt the need to bring him up in his book.
So.. Obama's half-brother means nothing to Digg citizens. But let's bring up McCain's WIFE'S half-sister.. and oh no, different story apparently. 2 articles, 4000+ diggs. Really?.. Hmmmm, no bias there.
http://digg.com/search?section=all&s=mccain+sister
And that's not even pulling up the article that got 3000+ diggs that I can't seem to find in the search engine.
Oh well, nothing will change.. we have 2 people running for the presidency who won't change a damn thing, it's the lesser of 2 evils at this point. - tharju, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1damn..how could Obama let his cousin brothers hanging dry in Africa?? How could he? He is not fit to be a president. Beatitlikeacop..you should grow up..when you become graduate and start your own family and become grow up..you will realize that even some of your immediate can't be saved. Sorry about the bad news.
- Mononuclear, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2McCain's wife's half-sister doesn't mean anything to me either. I don't know the details of their relationship and it doesn't really matter.
I haven't read Obama's book so I don't know what he said about his half-brother. Mentioning the fact that you have a half-brother is very different than considering that person part of your family though.
I guess we do have different opinions of family. You seem hung up on the idea that blood is what makes family regardless of your actual relationship with the person. I disagree with you and I think most people would also disagree.
I don't think blood has anything to do with family. Husband and wife are family there is no blood relation. An adopted child is family and there is no blood relation. What makes family is the love and feelings you share for each other. A kid that is beaten and neglected by his parents is not a family even with blood relation. A girl molested by her dad is not family.
Family is a social and emotional construct not a physical one you measure with DNA. - beatitlikeacop, on 10/01/2008, -3/+0McCains wife's half-sister doesn't mean much to many people, except here on Digg because it paints him in a bad way.
I wouldn't consider him family and invite him over for Thanksgiving dinner every year, but I would feel in my heart like I should help him out. Doesn't matter if I haven't talked to him in 10 years, if I knew he was my father's son, then I would do what I could. Obama is a millionaire, and his half brother is living on $1 a month. If this same thing was happening with McCain, we'd be calling for him to drop out of the race and the article would have 10K+ diggs no doubt. - Mononuclear, on 10/01/2008, -0/+3So why aren't you helping out the homeless guy on the corner who is your 15th cousin? He is related to you. What about the kid in Chicago in foster care who is your 7th cousin 3 times removed?
Helping out other people is great and we should all feel in our hearts that we should help others but we help family first and then try to help those others that we can. None of us are helping as much as we could. It doesn't matter that he is a millionaire. You yourself said you can't blame someone for enjoying their money. It doesn't matter that it would take very little to help the guy out. It would take very little to help many people in Africa or even here in the US. If you think he is not charitable then say he should donate to more charities or help more people. It has nothing to do with a stranger living on another continent. The guy is not part of his family no matter how much you think he is. - beatitlikeacop, on 10/01/2008, -4/+0Looks like I'll just have to agree to disagree with you on this point.
- Cadicus, on 10/01/2008, -0/+4I don't really want to point out my stance on this arguement.. but i would like to point out how each of you argued.
Mononuclear had valid.. logical points.
"beatitlikeacop" simply continued to rant and rave about biases.
Says a lot.
- beatitlikeacop, on 10/01/2008, -2/+0Oh absolutely agree with the article.
- tharju, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2eh..you can always find yourself and post it here..right? oh wait..nobody will digg up your story..i guess digg user are way smarter than you are. sorry.
- beatitlikeacop, on 10/01/2008, -3/+0tharju: how do i become graduate? and become grow up?
personally, i could care less about his half brother. my question to you, is why do people on digg care MORE about who mccain's makeup artist is than Obama letting his half brother (who gives a crap if he "knew" him or not) live on $1 a month?
which decision of those two would you think, if you had to choose, impact the way someone would perform as a president? makeup artist.. supporting your half brother. Hmmm..
- thekitchen, on 10/01/2008, -13/+0Right on the money, beatitlikeacop!
- badastronaut, on 10/01/2008, -11/+2Yes, lets just keep digging the same thing to the frontpage over and over.
- snotrokit, on 10/01/2008, -1/+27It's those ***** pizza joints I tell ya. If EVER there was a place for "Gotcha Journalism", it is those damned pizza joints. Pepperoni this, sausage that, extra cheese. It's like walking through a damned mine field. Then, to top it off, of all things, they have the Goddamned nerve to ask you if you want bread sticks! How the ***** are you supposed to answer that!? huh? Nothing but Gotchas there John. Deliver THIS you *****.
- dn11, on 10/01/2008, -0/+7Thin crust or deep dish??? Those bastards. Why do they hate America?
- hoohah625, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1Breadsticks, war with nuclear nations, you know... the old standards.
- TPAT36, on 10/01/2008, -17/+1Is this a serious article? The article itself represents gotcha journalism, and so does any anti-McCain article on digg these days. Example: The emergency room Walmart article.
- dn11, on 10/01/2008, -0/+6This is not an "article" this is a "video" simply playing back an interview with John McCain and Sarah Palin expressing their views. Enough said
- skinsgamer, on 10/01/2008, -13/+1This has already been on the front page today, actually its been in the top stories. Buried.
- Teggles, on 10/01/2008, -9/+1Come on. What he means is that Palin made a big slip-up which news stations focused on. They don't report the gist of things - they just report that slip-up. Journalism is a joke, but so is Palin. Even if they didn't focus on that slip-up, she'd come off looking like an idiot.
- ProfessorRiffs, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2The statement made by Palin and quoted at the beginning of the video is no slip-up. It is a clear contradiction to what her running mate has said. You can't polish a turd, not even a turd named Sarah.
- mcass06, on 10/01/2008, -0/+8Wow, look at McCain and how he keeps his hands next to his chest and fidgets. He's clearly uncomfortable talking about this. Reminds me of catching a child lying about something and them trying to reason their way out of it with more lies.
- elpresidente408, on 10/01/2008, -0/+5You can see him clenching his jaw too
- Makaveli, on 10/01/2008, -0/+10I LOVE the HeadShaking of Sarah Palin @ 1:18 of the clip , when Couric asks
" Are you sorry you said it Governor ? "
looking to McCain to save her once again.
She's so lucky he was there to shut her mouth for her!
lol GOTCHA !
Hilarity Ensues- twertyto, on 10/01/2008, -7/+1She looked to McCain because he spoke up. Couric is simply trying to embarrass Palin and McCain step in to call her on it.
Good for McCain/Palin to stand up against the tabloid MSM.
