- dDuk, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4Very nice collection indeed, a good find. One issue springs to mind however, as it is open source this would mean that any changes made to the source would have to be re-submitted back to the author... wouldn't it simply have been easier to make it 'free'?
Dugg none the less for being excellent examples of flash.- t0mmmmmmm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Nice find!
The B&W ones are most hypnotizing. - linuxrebel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6No open source means that you have access to the source. Now if it is Open Source and GPL licensed then yes it is a requirement that any change you make and intend to distribute you have to give back to the community (notice the intend to distribute. You can mod for your own use all day long without a worry)
Now if the author choses to use the BSD license then you have open source with no requirement to give back at all. Free (as in cost free) does not equal open source. Not even a little bit. Lots of software is free (like macromedia flash plugin) but no where near being open source.
(on topic to the post.... ) this guys stuff is borderline Warhol.... neat. - johnchr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Depends on the license. I downloaded one of them and it was GPL. If you use it and modify it then you don't have to make the source available unless you redistribute it.
- Philbert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It would be nice if the description or page said what it was. As a pro visual effects artist I looked expecting to see explosions and liquid particle effects. I looked at the page and a few of them and wondered "are these meant to be used in After Effects? Fusion? What do you do with them?"
- Obsidian743, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you guys like a lot of those you should check out www.phong.com . All free to download.
- millette, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Open source means many things to many people. Applying it to something that isn't software gets you that much less clarity. That said, open source licences that force you to return your changes _to the original creator_ are quite rare. Usually, it's enough to distribute the source if you distribute the binary.
- t0mmmmmmm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Nice find!
- codyodell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Jared Tardbell is amazing. Everyone should read his section in masters of flash vol. 3 , it's very inspirational.
- darkmotion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Real old but nice.
- crazybrit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Pretty. Nice find.
- rotarychainsaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wonder if there is a way to make these work with xscreensaver.
- deathw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0checking out right now, linuxrebel thanks for the information, didnt get the GPL and the BSD difference, thanks for the info!
- lrgabriel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Agree with discussion of open source--the main idea is that anyone can get ahold of the source, modify it or not, and redistribute without monitary impact.
- geoncoder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1 Reminds me of my first programming job. Each programmer in the department was encouraged to write their own screen saver (in their spare time of course). The idea was to have some friendly programming competition by showing off your skill. Mine was a screen saver called Euclid that would draw randomized shapes with different fill factors. If the shapes overlapped, you would get the effect of overlapping. Good times.
- closethipster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh wow, great find.
- thebraineater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1those look like really nice loading screens. Lot's of the loading screens I see are crap. Just use one of these things.
- chadu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1super old. but still great!
- monkeyman08854, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1for any of you haven't been to hell.com (back when there was more there), it was an enigmatic site which seemingly had no point. It did, however, have a FAQ which was based off of/ very similar to the Text space effect. Its just interesting where these things pop up.

- StantheBat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thanks for posting this- old it may be, but I've never come across it.
- TakeAction, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Some are Lame but Some are amazing if you let them run for a little time. Thanks for posting. Cool stuff
- infinite411, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wanted to create a screensaver from the swf files but wasn't able too, maybe because of the calculations needed to run the file.
If you need something that resembles a screensaver download the .swf file to your desktop, run it then hit ctrl+f to go into full screenmode.
Not exactly a screensaver but looks nice though.
However I did find a FREE program that will allow you to create screensavers using an flash swf files http://www.instantstorm.com/ - gamma911, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does anyone know how to modify the movies to make them smaller for instance in banner shape? 468 * 90 mostily the animation just goes off the stage
- ephemerae, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I LIKE
- uassholes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As far as the title, twp points:
1) When deciding whether or not to click the link, why would I care that there were specifically 96?
2) Some were pretty but I was not amazed by any of them.
Using numbers and terms and "amazing" in the titles of these bored internet addict web sites have long since become very tedious. - zaqintosh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe I'm missing something, but where is the actual source? These are descriptions of how to write programs. Last I checked open source apps didn't just tell you how to make your own :)
