- SurrealDream, on 10/12/2007, -61/+17ROH-FUL at the guy with the ker-azy hoodie...
Mostly because, back in the days of CS 1.3, I always wished I had some form of apparel to block out the bastard sun when playing in the conservatory.
...
I never put a tablecloth over my head...Honest.- OneManArmy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+102IIRC the third photo was from the UK, the police busted some DVD printing ring.

Does anyone find it funny that this guy bothers to have a decorational lava lamp? - PsychoticClown, on 10/12/2007, -124/+7Ha! Great photos.
The second photo seems like something out of Office Space:

I'm guessing an employee shortage and a Lumbergh-ish type boss forced the poor sap to devise that apparatus.
I kinda like this one:

He went to St. Louis and forgot to stop by the Arch. Nevertheless, he recreated the moment.

Probably to spite his younger brother (to his right). - Gazpacho, on 10/12/2007, -3/+44@realitybias
Well, the lava lamp doesn't work since it doesn't have the heating base. It looks like this person is a pack rat and can't bare to throw anything out since it may be useful later on. - PsychoticClown, on 10/12/2007, -57/+4Forgot to mention, many of those were pathetic. They only further (the mostly correct) stereotype that geeks deserve pity. The publisher of this story must be a jock or something. Some of these pics make you laugh even more at the expense of how hilarious the geek lifestyle can be, you know, completely out of touch with reality and wholly obsessed with crap.
- Shuk, on 10/12/2007, -6/+29Anyone else love the piano set up. Someone wants to feel like a sophisticated musician!
- bradleyland, on 10/12/2007, -11/+4"...and can't bare to throw anything out since it may be useful later on."
Yeah, cause you never know when you'll be in the mood to snort some la la la lava! - teahugger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+38How about these ones:
http://www.shorttext.com/z0gv5 - Evoguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Looks like some sort of terrible toner cart disaster in one of those pics. That would not be fun to clean up.
- nimawin, on 10/12/2007, -5/+109dugg for the "apple" laptop! lmao..
- nimawin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12@realitybias
find Waldo!.. how did you find the lava lamp? lol - AnotherThought, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3i think im a geek (i spent 90% of my non sleeping time in front of the monitor at work and one of the 5 monitors at home ...) but my room's clean... my point is just because someone who never clean up for anything doesn't make him a geek.. more like a junkie to me. Geeks are proud owners of electronics who takes care of them like their own offsprings. DONT MIX UP ORDINARY JUNKIES WITH GEEKS!
- keithc01, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2@ realitybias... "decorational" is not a word =)
anyway a lot of these pics look like their from the 90s... not sure if that's a good or bad thing. - TheMidnight, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16I think the hoodie is for watching porn when your roommate is home...but I'm still trying to figure out the chick with that black thing on her head. Is that VR or is she just trying to pick up Storm Troopers on the Internet?
- banthis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14I just want to state there's a big difference in having no life and been a geek.
- djlosch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10as much as i agree with the maddox opinion on apple, i seriously laughed out loud when i saw the apple laptop
- Llanowar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Honestly... how can you be such a geek as to construct your own widescreen monitor.... and STILL have default xp wallpaper.... 3 times....
- AegisGFX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19I need information on the guy 5 from the bottom, laying on his back with 3 monitors. I'm about 100% positive he is my brother...
So if anyone knows the source of that pic, please lemme know.
- DevastatorIIC, on 10/12/2007, -3/+86It took me a while to figure out the first one, until I noticed the angled mirror behind the... 'monitor'. It must be multiple projectors pointing upwards through the hole, reflecting off the mirror, then being rear-projected on the back of the screen. Don't even have to readjust the image. Damn smart.
- mym6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+35Except the image that is thrown looks terrible. A+ for effort though!
- dhughes, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4 The piano mod and the three mirror mod should be combined.
- shifty2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+146the microwave case mod is pretty cool.
- se7en11, on 10/12/2007, -124/+28I know this is not exactly on topic, but it's still pretty funny.
I was at a car show in Daytona and I was talking with one of the guys that had a car in the show. He was showing me all his sweet speakers and amps, so I told him I had a microwave in the back of my car. He was totally blown away and said "Whoa that's a good idea". Little did he know it was back there because it was broken and I'd been meaning to throw it out. :-) - lalusr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+61yup....not exactly on topic
- MBostonS, on 10/12/2007, -18/+8I like how the background is an image of a microwave's interior and it looks like something is being cooked.

- terarbyte, on 10/12/2007, -23/+8that 2nd picture, I'm pretty sure that plastic piece is actually a "sperm gaurd" for the keyboard...

- bradleyland, on 10/12/2007, -6/+32Oh yeah. Nothing like the sound of a CRT imploding.

- joshman5k, on 10/12/2007, -6/+151you should put your sub on the floor.
- FTLJohnson, on 10/12/2007, -13/+57Maybe, maybe not, but you're going to get Dugg down because you use Optimum IO Digital cable - AKA crap.
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -4/+67How do you get food dude? Your parents must've left you by now!
- EBFoxbat, on 10/12/2007, -23/+254You must be a moron for the following reasons:
1. You have a sub on your desk, not on the floor where it belongs.
2. Your surround speakers are within reach, how's that left channel working for you.
3. Your monitor probably runs at 720p which is a horribly low computer resolution. In the event that it is a 1080p, you are far too close for what is surely a huge dot-pitch.
4. No one on Digg is the least bit impressed with your setup. Buy some zip ties.
5. Holy *****, are those manuals under the TV?
6. Action figure... uhh that's cool I guess.

@ebfoxbat:

You're a pretentious wanker for the following reasons...
ahh ***** it, I don't need reasons. - EBFoxbat, on 10/12/2007, -5/+52Come to think of it, you're right.
- PsychoticClown, on 10/12/2007, -14/+170OK, everyone who dug lasepultura down owes him a debt now to undig the down digg (or just dig him up O_O). That last reply of his was pretty cool. A tirade from angry poor geeks who can't afford the things he has, and he doesn't lose his temper. You gotta love'em for that.
Hey lasepultura, throw a few dollars on the floor for the geeks here. They can't afford lots of things, obviously :D - majortom1981, on 10/12/2007, -16/+1I see you live in the NYC area either in long island or NJ since you have a cablevision box.
You shouldnt post stuff like that on the net.
Come on Cablevision is not that bad. I have them too. Up till verizon started fios it was one of the fastest isps in the country.
When their 50/50 Optimum Ultra comes out for $199 they might be the fastest again so they are not that bad. - strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -31/+5Who puts their woofer on their desk???

- cell00, on 10/12/2007, -12/+115you guys can be really pathetic sometimes.
He was sharing his setup and you guys started picking holes in it for no reason at all. Why!?
I am going to get Dugg down for saying this but *****. Get over yourselves people. - Gizza, on 10/12/2007, -13/+10I hope you realize that woofers are not shielded and should be place at least a couple of feet away from your monitor.
- LaSepultura, on 10/12/2007, -8/+57Hehe, I posted it to see what kind of replies I would get. I can take the punishment.
@espithaca: As soon as Razor makes a wireless rechargeable mouse, i'll be all over it
@oesj: I bought it because it's wired and I can plug it into my PC and it works. I really like the Xbox360's controller design. If they would just improve on the D-Pad I think it would be the best controller yet

In other words...nice monitor. - burke, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Woo, human mage. I'm noticing, however, a disturbing lack of X-Perl unit frames and Bartender3. Oh well.
- bobasaurus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I use a 32" samsung lns3251d hdtv for a monitor. It's only 720p, but it really looks just fine. I don't even notice the larger dot pitch. Some PC games have difficulty supporting the strange 1360x768 resolution, but most work great and look incredible. The downside is that only vga computer input works... DVI->HDMI doesn't support the necessary resolution (possibly only on this series of hdtv's... not sure in general).

- lexbaby, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1All that equipment and only a Westinghouse "Best Buy Special" for the monitor?
- Kitsune818, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm kind of confused.. It seems to me, a screen that size, so close, would cause you to have to move your head around a lot. A 24" LCD too close is a pain in the ass with decent resolution. At 1080 and that size, a blind person could see it just fine. All that size just goes to waste due to lack of resolution. And it's not a jealously thing, I run two 22" LCDs. (they're like 250 bucks these days if you shop around).. but they'd need to have massive resolutions to sit that close to them. Can you see?

- kdmaster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2PsychoticClown is right.

The first thing I did when I bought my 37" hdtv was to anxiously hook it up to my computer and give it a try. It took me about 20 minutes to realize that it's just not practical. Damn, it must be Monday...- oringo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5ditto, I looked at the first picture and thought maybe it's because it resembles the seatings of the Greek Theater.
- RockinRoel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Some of them aren't geeky but just work situations, like the one with a load of monitors.
Professional 3D modelers, graphics designers, programmers,... just need more monitors.- Miche1987, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Nah, there's enough monitors. It needs more cowbell.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4*looks at the pc electrical-taped together*
YEOW! And I thoguht my Pentium3 that was practically jury-rigged hardware and sotftware wise to support things way after it's time was a mess, at least all the parts still fit as they are supposed to and none are buldging. That thing looks like it had exploded then was taped back together. - wtfitsjared, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Ok, the racing one with the two sideview mirrors is actually kind of awesome.
- kiensoy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I like it!
- ZeRux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I want the pilot seat :-)
- dhughes, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18 No you wouldn't, when you finish burning a CD and you press eject it wouldn't be a pretty sight.
- Kitsune818, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4it's useful if you are sitting across the room. After a certain point, the resolution becomes more important than the screen size.
- manti5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Please tell me that picture with the person typing without keys is fake. That's TOO geeky.
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've done it.
- whisperedlie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ok, it's one thing to get a dual-monitor setup so you can fill your field of vision with a large workspace. however, if you need to create a wall of monitors because you think that it is making your more efficient or more of a bad-ass, then you're just an idiot and i hope that precarious rig of 21" CRTs breaks loose and places you permanently in that reclined position.
my boss insisted that he needs two 30" Apple Cinema Displays on his desktop, which sits no more than 4 feet from his head. have you ever gotten stuck in the very front row of a movie theater? I would not want to work day after day and go home with blurred vision and a sore, aching neck, no matter how cool my monitors look.- Spacejack, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0The sore neck you get from the front row at the movies is from craning it when the row is placed too close to the screen. First off, in a well-made theater that won't happen. Second, what possible relevance can it have to monitors placed on a desktop?
- bamiller3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14That dude in the reclined position reminds me of the WoW guy from the South Park episode.
- Piggycow, on 10/12/2007, -13/+1"You must be a moron for the following reasons:
7. photobucket"
Somebody is jealous...- LanceWindu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Somebody replied incorrectly...
- thedaemon, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1720p and 1080p on a computer? Good lord, you have never used a computer before have you? What are you on, webtv??? 320x200 is a low resolution. and hd resolutions are by far not anywhere near standard for computers. I run 1920x1200 on a 24", good ratio imho.
- stonr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I LIKE IT!!!
- LiamIsOnFire, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2That wasn't impressive in the slightest.
- Gnolfo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Agreed. "Geek Culture" seems to mean "Electronic Consumer Materialist" if anything. These guys go after what's showy and expensive, not what's optimal or practical. Well, ok that messy workstation with 8 billion cases and components lying around is probably not included in this classification. But the second one with the custom plastic toast-holding tray seems useful only if you never use keyboards. God that thing looks cramped as hell to type in, but I suppose it might look stylish to some at least....
Seriously though, maybe I'm out of touch with definitions but I thought being a geek meant being nerdy, not going OOH AAH at inefficient wastes of money and impractical setups. Some of the pics are heavy duty processing/production stuff it looks like, which is fine by itself. But they're obviously being included not because of any signs of ingenuity or pragmatism; it's just high dollar, high end industry-level equipment and computing muscle. If that's "Geek Culture", I'll pass. - bliz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@gnolfo
geeky != nerdy

- xmsredhedx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I hate braggers. But LeSep, I like your set up. Very nice.
Now what was this Digg about? - anthonystark, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I don't know - all the pics made me feel kind of icky.
- crzy88, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0shakira is the only decent one I wouldn't mind doing....the others....ugh don't want to ever think about it.
- bryanc1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3What's with the chick and bubble on her head?
- aNTwNHs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0That's a geeky silent pc solution:

http://antonis.wordpress.com/2006/11/19/silent-pc/- profOblivion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Maybe I'm just not 1337 like that, but ... I don't get it.
But I'm smart enough to know that putting your computer in an enclosed space like that is a bad idea. - BlackAdderIII, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"IIS" XOR "Geek"
Honestly, the standard IIS 404 page is geek kryptonite.
- profOblivion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Maybe I'm just not 1337 like that, but ... I don't get it.
- jpn1003, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Three words: Incredible Porn Cocoons.
- ineedanencore, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2its pretty sad that this is number one and above the Virginia tech shooting...
- staticblake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Buried for being a lame digg ripoff...."I like it" "x number of people liked it"...I've seen more creativity in a Madden game.
- MrFatalistic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2anyone find the dvd duplication funny? yeah all geeks are pirates.
- gunslinger37, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love the reclined chair in front of the monitors, brilliant as well as that massive flight simulator doo-hickey.
- RoadWarriorX11, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I don't see anyone running Linux, playing WoW, watching anime, or fiddling with the latest mac
Dugg down for inaccuracy :-P - Buckiller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This small amount of pictures was hilarious!!!! They seem to capture a scene out of a few of my more recluse computer geek friends' lives. It would be hella funny to show up at a LAN with some of these items in the pics.
That first pic was awesome... I wonder if there is an even better version? Anyone have a pic of a geek with TONS of money that decided he needed a high quality IMAX style display? - Neenja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A bridge made out of computer monitors? that's a waste of money and I love it. :P
- Carsonauto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The guy lying on his back probably has back troubles. Scientists actually HAVE concluded that that is the most ergonomically correct position for ANYONE. Some offices have actually set up booths like that. That position puts NO unnatural stress on your back or neck.
- danconia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Are we purposely trying to Digg this story above the VT shooting?
- CMOSLogic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah, i concur; good stuff. I'm a gamer & i'm a little bit equipment short. Must be nice to be a Pazowntzor8r
