It must be multiple projectors pointing upwards through the hole, reflecting off the mirror, then being rear-projected on the back of the screen. Don't even have to readjust the image. Damn smart.

      I was at a car show in Daytona and I was talking with one of the guys that had a car in the show. He was showing me all his sweet speakers and amps, so I told him I had a microwave in the back of my car. He was totally blown away and said "Whoa that's a good idea". Little did he know it was back there because it was broken and I'd been meaning to throw it out. :-)

      4. No one on Digg is the least bit impressed with your setup. Buy some zip ties.

    • bobasaurus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I use a 32" samsung lns3251d hdtv for a monitor. It's only 720p, but it really looks just fine. I don't even notice the larger dot pitch. Some PC games have difficulty supporting the strange 1360x768 resolution, but most work great and look incredible. The downside is that only vga computer input works... DVI->HDMI doesn't support the necessary resolution (possibly only on this series of hdtv's... not sure in general).

A 24" LCD too close is a pain in the ass with decent resolution. At 1080 and that size, a blind person could see it just fine. All that size just goes to waste due to lack of resolution. And it's not a jealously thing, I run two 22" LCDs. (they're like 250 bucks these days if you shop around).. but they'd need to have massive resolutions to sit that close to them. Can you see?

      Yeah, they're still the same account though. Look at how this post is from my account in all caps, and the last one was all lowercase. Apparently it matters how you type it when you log in.

      Try logging in with some caps in your name and post some comments. You can add or remove caps each time you log in. They are the same account.

    That is one hell of a setup. Having the 3 curgen consoles in the mix at an arm's length away really puts it over the top. I could not get ANY work done sitting there, however.

The first thing I did when I bought my 37" hdtv was to anxiously hook it up to my computer and give it a try. It took me about 20 minutes to realize that it's just not practical. This becomes apparent when you have to turn your head 60 degrees to just to look at something on the other side of the screen.

    my boss insisted that he needs two 30" Apple Cinema Displays on his desktop, which sits no more than 4 feet from his head. have you ever gotten stuck in the very front row of a movie theater? I would not want to work day after day and go home with blurred vision and a sore, aching neck, no matter how cool my monitors look.

    4. No one on Digg is the least bit impressed with your setup. Buy some zip ties.

  • thedaemon, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1720p and 1080p on a computer? Good lord, you have never used a computer before have you? What are you on, webtv??? 320x200 is a low resolution. and hd resolutions are by far not anywhere near standard for computers. I run 1920x1200 on a 24", good ratio imho.

Well, ok that messy workstation with 8 billion cases and components lying around is probably not included in this classification. But the second one with the custom plastic toast-holding tray seems useful only if you never use keyboards. God that thing looks cramped as hell to type in, but I suppose it might look stylish to some at least....

      Seriously though, maybe I'm out of touch with definitions but I thought being a geek meant being nerdy, not going OOH AAH at inefficient wastes of money and impractical setups. Some of the pics are heavy duty processing/production stuff it looks like, which is fine by itself. But they're obviously being included not because of any signs of ingenuity or pragmatism; it's just high dollar, high end industry-level equipment and computing muscle. If that's "Geek Culture", I'll pass.

    That first pic was awesome... I wonder if there is an even better version? Anyone have a pic of a geek with TONS of money that decided he needed a high quality IMAX style display?

  • Carsonauto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The guy lying on his back probably has back troubles. Scientists actually HAVE concluded that that is the most ergonomically correct position for ANYONE. Some offices have actually set up booths like that. That position puts NO unnatural stress on your back or neck.
