ThickBox - One box to rule them all.
codylindley.com — If you're a fan of LightBox, the javascript solution for displaying pics, then you're going to like how one developer has expanded on it to allow for showing html as well as images.

- buss, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Here's the example page: http://www.codylindley.com/blogstuff/js/thickbox/
Check out the login example, I love it.- deluxndotcom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It turns out that the "thickbox" was created by jQuery http://jquery.com . This is a very interesting tool and I hope to see it used with other such projects. Here is the acutal demo of "ThickBox" http://jquery.com/demo/thickbox/
- skyfex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"created by jQuery" is a bit odd. jQuery certainly isn't sentient yet (close though ;) ), and it wasn't John Resig either. It was created WITH/for jQuery though, by another awesome guy ^_^
- en3r0, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4It is really nice, I think it would work great for a cool login prompt.
- Bitruder, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3I am really liking how the login box works.
- uptown, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Netflix started using a similar idea for post-movie-selection display.
- eklitzke, on 10/12/2007, -18/+3I prefer fluxbox :-) http://fluxbox.sourceforge.net/
- prockcore, on 10/12/2007, -8/+6Using ajax to fill out lightbox content isn't new at all.
That and his demos didn't work until I reloaded the page. Boo for crappy implementation of something that's not new.- apotropaic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I thought it was crappy too until I realized that he's having the digg effect and its causing everything to load improperly. Thats why a reload makes it all work fine.. your then viewing from the cache.
On a side note... DANG IT!! I've never heard of lightbox OR thinkbox til now! I just finish writing the exact same thingfor a shopping cart product I'm making. I'm sure theirs is better too :(. I'll have to impliment it I guess

- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Netflix has been using this for a while to give you some "recommendations" when you add a movie to your query
- KarmannGhia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Doesn't work on my Linux computer running FireFox 1.5 . . .
- trylleklovn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2And that is excatly why this is not good for a login prompt..
- macewan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4must be down at the moment
- logic, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3bummer, it's offline :|
dugg for later perusing. - codylindley, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2Ya, this thing is not new. What a rip-off. Let's lynch that no good yellow belly copy cat.
BTW - The traffic may have taken down the server. - Robotsu, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7Unfortunatly, as others have suggested, this is nothing innovative. It is a minor, obvious mutation of an already popular and implimented idea.
Been around forever. Sorry, no digg. The first time I saw this was in the "lightbox gone wild" demo, which is linked below:
http://particletree.com/features/lightbox-gone-wild/ - NoDude, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I tried it out earlier today to replace a similar technique I was using with lightbox and dominclude in combination. I was a bit disappointed by some of the bugs:
Like the loading image won't disappear on random occasions, even though the overlay is gotten rid of.
Or the positioning bug with the compressed jquery, where the divs get reaaaaly confused about where they're supposed to be.
All in all it's a nice implementation, much more to my liking than lightbox gone wild ( http://particletree.com/features/lightbox-gone-wild/ ) for example (mostly because of the overall size), but it's still in its youth IMHO. - Robotsu, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Yeah wait, I'm an *****. I didn't realize it was using jQuery. That's what I get for opening my big, condescending mouth.
- dante2010, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Yaya I can digg it! Ahahah
- affanjam, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Redirect to Digg
- DennisP, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Why does it redirect to Digg?
- tekmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2There is too much traffic coming from digg, so the website redirects all referrers from digg back to digg. Just put the URL into your address bar manually.
- codylindley, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Sorry guys, my host is threatening suspension. I need to let this one cool down.
- Haplo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1@codylindley
then instead of a ***** redirect use a -F (forbidden). You are abusing a site because it "abuses" you, which is not nice. - codylindley, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I was doing that, I was also redirecting. Which I changed, since it seem to offend you so.
- csprech, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1a life saver!
- macgabriel87, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1wow, i can imagine soon webhosting companies will add an extra charge if you want your site to be directed from digg.
because of digg, we now have two tier web hosting! - jmaiurano, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I saw it for a brief moment before it went down. Beautiful!
Cody, is there any place you can put the source in the meantime? - codylindley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Its on the jquery site at the moment! Just the Demo.
jquery.com/demo/thickbox/ - film42, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2It is a cool script, i will definately use it for my blog
- bsingin64, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4interesting way to handle the digg effect. DiggReject
- codylindley, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Sorry if I provoked you into being upset...I was trying to avoid paying for a dedicated server.
- deluxndotcom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1great effect! not only the effect its self, but the new close and loading images are fantastic. Very nice work
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It doesn't work with images well. You can't advance from pic to pic with the arrow button, which is one of the main features of lightbox..
- NoDude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Lightbox 2 you mean
- indoloony, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0This link is now dead.
- apexified, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2give the poor guy a break - it's awesome!
- Chewie67, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, we need a new link for this...
- veza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Other LightBox techniques listed http://digg.com/programming/Which_Ligthbox_is_rigth_for_you
- tknterry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hello? is this blog alive?
