- Surferess, on 07/07/2008, -17/+7Why do boys always do stuff like this? I don't understand the mentality of this sort of prank. WTF?
You almost never catch girls doing stuff like this.- redfan, on 07/08/2008, -0/+17Not to take away from this tragedy, but some of the hazing in girls sports, cheerleading, and sororities can be just as bad.
- AWBoy666, on 07/08/2008, -2/+14Let's see what I can count from my times at Vanderbilt and their sororities:
1) Being forced to ***** a guy from a list provided by the sorority or kicked out of rush.
2) A required cocaine regiment (to keep girls thin).
3) Stripped naked and tormented by your "sisters" as others draw on your body your imperfections (I've seen the pictures of this actually happening).
4) Forced to flirt/perform sexual acts on professors/TAs in order to obtain test materials.
5) Forced to strip and run across campus in the cold.
etc. etc. etc.
Women do the same thing, but never acknowledge its stupidity.
And FYI: Those are just the top 5 that come to mind and that I have seen physical evidence (pictures mostly) to prove they happened. - rjs899, on 07/08/2008, -2/+8pics or it didn't happen
- mediaphile, on 07/08/2008, -1/+4Sororities and fraternities are nature's way of sorting out the mindless drones from people who are capable of independent thought. If you bothered to go through this kind of *****, you are a moron. Hooray for natural selection.

- bluezinc, on 07/08/2008, -1/+3Only stupid boys do things like this. I certainly wouldn't have ever thought this would be a good idea. I can't believe that someone would be stupid enough to shoot roman candles into a room filled with flammable cloths and materials and not expect a fire.
- cnot3, on 07/08/2008, -1/+29Yeah, you're right. Women would destroy you emotionally before setting you on fire.
- gcube, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2Just google "Glenbrook North Hazing" - girls can be just as stupid... seriously, why every parent doesn't sit with their child and discuss the pure stupidity of hazing is beyond me.
- hackiavelli, on 07/08/2008, -2/+4Alcohol.

- AJShoes9789, on 07/08/2008, -3/+4At least men can drive bitch.
- redfan, on 07/08/2008, -0/+17Not to take away from this tragedy, but some of the hazing in girls sports, cheerleading, and sororities can be just as bad.
- AMACTASTIC, on 07/07/2008, -1/+10Does it mention anywhere the article why he couldn't get out of the room?
- skored, on 07/07/2008, -0/+7i don't think it mentions it in this article but i saw the story about this on espn yesterday and they had said he was passed out from drinking too much....
- bobartig, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2They mentioned that there had been alcohol at the party, so I think he was heavily intoxicated.
- AWBoy666, on 07/08/2008, -0/+5That makes much more sense......let's throw a fire hazard under the door of someone who can't even escape or possibly respond to it anyways! If he was passed out, why throw it in the first place?!
- dl0st, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1Because they were wasted, too.
- bleh19799791, on 07/08/2008, -2/+2....he was a soccer player.
- bigdrizzle13, on 07/22/2008, -0/+0I'm from Peoria and I'm a die hard Bradley sports fan and the buzz at the time of the incident was that he had pulled a similar prank a week or two before and was suspicious of them retaliating so he stuffed towels behind his door. The towels made it difficult to open the door, therefore noone could get into save him.
- BJLStorm, on 07/08/2008, -27/+2Video of the incident:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yu_moia-oVI- santaliqueur, on 07/08/2008, -2/+6Yawn.
- BJLStorm, on 07/08/2008, -3/+1You seem unamused. This saddens me.
- santaliqueur, on 07/08/2008, -2/+5Why would I be amused at something that ceased to be funny 6 months ago?
- MastDane, on 07/08/2008, -2/+5dick.
- BJLStorm, on 07/08/2008, -4/+1Ahahahahaha.
- bluezinc, on 07/08/2008, -2/+6Dude, not cool.
Also, way to be very, very, very, very late on an internet meme. Rick Rolling ceased to be funny a long time ago.- BJLStorm, on 07/08/2008, -9/+2Rick Rolling will always be funny.
ALWAYS.
BTW "It's over 9000" is still used, and it's old as dirt. - bluezinc, on 07/08/2008, -1/+3It seems Digg disagrees with you. Check your comment, it's at -11 presently.
- BJLStorm, on 07/08/2008, -9/+2Rick Rolling will always be funny.
- BJLStorm, on 07/08/2008, -7/+1You deserve it for trying to see a video of someone getting killed.
- isunktheship, on 07/08/2008, -1/+7***** tasteless, you should be able to warn people for this insensitivity.
- SimonTB, on 07/08/2008, -4/+1Win.
- santaliqueur, on 07/08/2008, -2/+6Yawn.
- TheGonzo, on 08/13/2008, -2/+7I saw this on Outside the Lines and was reminded of the stupidity of yesterday, today and tomorrow's youth. I mean fire and carpets are never good not to mention fireworks...
After a year, my condolences to the families involved. - GassyTurd, on 07/08/2008, -6/+0Suckers.
- lostray423, on 07/08/2008, -2/+5hey dumbass "fire"works are flammable. that's why you shoot them in the sky. poor kid :(
- welliwonder, on 07/08/2008, -9/+3HANG'EM!
- JakeAndersyn, on 07/08/2008, -1/+8This is horrific! I love fireworks but c'mon, you've gotta show a LITTLE common sense! Set them off on concrete, far away from flammable things, and maybe then no one will die.
- AWBoy666, on 07/08/2008, -8/+11Ring em up on murder charges. This isn't a prank; it's stupidity and lack of common sense at its highest level. I'm amazed these people made it into a college.
- Fozefy, on 07/08/2008, -1/+5Come on, its obviously not murder. They were being idiots sure, but they didn't want him dead. Give them a few months to a year and I guarantee they would never do something like this again.
Your attitude is the problem with the American legal system. The belief that if you make a single mistake that you can never be trusted again is ludicrous. I'm not saying that everyone deserves a second chance, but these guys definitely do. The guy that died would probably have been the one doing it the next year if this hadn't happened to him. - BillMoocho, on 07/08/2008, -3/+2They did say alcohol was involved you know.
- kerby132, on 07/08/2008, -0/+5Murder? The kid lost his life, and that is the worst thing that could happen, I totally agree. However, charging the other four kids with murder would take their lives away too. They didn't mean to kill him, and never had any intention of killing him. That is why they made involuntary manslaughter thankfully.
They did a very stupid thing yes, but by no way ever should they be labeled as Murders. Everyone's been drunk and made a mistake. Sadly, their mistake was the worst of them all. - PolicePeople, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1if you're amazed that people this stupid make it into college, you must not have gone to college.
- Fozefy, on 07/08/2008, -1/+5Come on, its obviously not murder. They were being idiots sure, but they didn't want him dead. Give them a few months to a year and I guarantee they would never do something like this again.
- Muero, on 07/08/2008, -1/+4I always thought you couldn't heal from something fatal. I guess you learn something new every day.
- diemunkiesdie, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2Shame on you for making me laugh when I was feeling all emotional because of the dead kid! Sadly, I dugg you anyways...
- AWBoy666, on 07/08/2008, -6/+3Also, shoving a roman candle under someone's door doesn't sound like a nice prank you do to a friend. Also, it was all of his roommates ganging up on him when he shoved a towel under the door, obviously expecting it and trying to prevent it?
This sounds more like bullying to me......not simple jokes that friends play with one another.......- shakbhaji, on 07/08/2008, -1/+2They weren't bullying him. They shared a house, they were obviously friends.
- SimonTB, on 07/08/2008, -0/+5These retards had done it before. The only bad part is that the morons who did it got out of the house.
- mbouck17, on 07/08/2008, -0/+8I play soccer for Belmont University and we played Bradley at their campus last year our first game of the season very shortly after this incident. You could tell those players were feeling it. They wanted so badly to win for him. I can only imagine if something like this happened on our team... it would be an absolute nightmare. When you play a collegiate sport, your teammates are your family.
- lukerat88, on 07/08/2008, -0/+13I went to high school with Danny at Peoria Notre Dame. Nice kid, I saw him everyday, we had many of the same friends. There were all kinds of memorials and everything, it really brought the community and everyone who knew Danny together. I'm surprised to see this on the Digg front page, but its a fine commemoration of him and hopefully it can drive home the importance of safety and the dangers of stupid "pranks" like these.
- androo002345, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2That's such a tragic story. I feel sorry for his family and their loss.
On a different note: that video was a tease. Give me the whole damn story or give me nothing! - DaDrake, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1Were they ever sent to prison? All I find is they had charged brought against them.... no conviction.
- hotpuck6, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3"On Jan. 23, 2008, six weeks after the end of the season, all four men, facing a minimum six years if convicted, agreed to plead guilty to a lesser felony, involuntary manslaughter, and spend six months in the Peoria County Jail."
I'm gonna go with yes. - DaDrake, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1Only 6 months.... *****.... hardly justice.
- diemunkiesdie, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1If you see on the right there is a side bar which tells you what they were all charged with and when each of them gets out of jail. They all get out of jail on July 17, 18, or 19.
- dounce87, on 07/08/2008, -1/+0saw this on Sportscenter last night, pretty sad story. Just gotta be careful when you mix booze with fireworks because it's a dangerous combo with about 7 deaths a year they said too...
- kerby132, on 07/08/2008, -1/+1I live about 10 minutes from Bradley and have a friend who knew the kid that died. He was drunk, but not passed out. He was very disoriented and couldn't find the door or window in the smoke. The room had multiple mattresses in it if I remember right that ignited the whole room in a heartbeat.
It was sad, and just a few weeks later another Bradley student was killed when his friend jokingly and drunkingly pushed him into the street and he was hit by a car. How many times has you joked around and pushed a friend? It makes you think about how fragile life really is. - IUAndar, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4So they wanted to use fireworks indoors as a prank? Well I can see where they thought this would turn...no I can't
- Boik02, on 07/08/2008, -1/+0I'm by no means defending this kids here, but this event happened in the same area that I live. I was young and dumb in college too, but it's like the old saying it's all fun and games until someone gets hurt.. in this case death. This is a very very sad story about a team that had a still stuck together and done something that was very inspirational to a lot of people. This goes to show to a lot of people anymore even myself a couple years ago just didnt think about consequences or the what if's on important situations. I hope more parents make their children more aware of their life's decisions.
- hamidious, on 07/08/2008, -1/+1The shame is, the US has few good soccer players, the midfielder that died was probably one of them.
- t4m5t3r, on 07/08/2008, -1/+2i dont get this, in america, GUNS are legal, but fireworks ARENT? why is that? in the UK fireworks are legal and we dont seem to blow ourselves up, dont get me wrong iv had my moments, but i dont even know anybody who's been badly injured by fireworks (i dont doubt there will be a good few though)
But i think the fact they are illegal is what makes people do stupid things with them, its the only expanation, unless you guys use weapons grade explosives in them!
stupid people do stupid things its fairly simple to understand, we should just keep these things legal and let the stupid people sort themselve out,
although thats not the case with this guy, its his freind who are the idiots, although i wouldnt imagine this to be "fatal" on paper, seems like bad luck more than anything else!- Tabris, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2Fireworks are legal on a state-by-state basis. At the same time, you're much less likely to ***** around with guns and accidentally kill someone than you are with fireworks.
I honestly don't get why some states ban them, either. Everyone here just goes a few minutes over to New Hampshire and buys them. State easily loses millions every Independence Day weekend.- t4m5t3r, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1thats a good point actualy, never though about it like that, i suppose if you are around, use or own guns, fireworks may realy not seem that dangerous in comparison.
- Tabris, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2Fireworks are legal on a state-by-state basis. At the same time, you're much less likely to ***** around with guns and accidentally kill someone than you are with fireworks.
- shoediva, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1How sad for everyone concerned.....a life was cut short just for a joke. I'm sure the pranksters
won't forget this either. - donkz, on 07/08/2008, -1/+2brainless college mongoloids
- empty27, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2roman candles are OUTSIDE toys. +3 stupid all around.
