To aaeyers defense, it does seem like every soccer article is accompanied by some idiot saying "oh, soccer" (see below). There are many Americans who share the same passion for the sport as the rest of the world. Please frown on the individual and not the country as a whole.
    • mass922, on 06/30/2008, -2/+2Same here, I am an American who lives in Texas, where American Football reigns supreme, and there are still an overwhelming number of avid soccer fans in the area.
      Add that to the fact that my city hosts one of the biggest youth tournaments in the world (Dallas Cup, have you heard of it?) And that we have a constant support for our league's teams, and our national team, and you'll find that soccer is actually not that hated in the United States... that is just the broad generalization.

      watched every game in the euro cup this year including the qualifiers. croatia was my darkhorse, but without eduardo they were never going to make it. what a great surprise to see spain holding the cup though, well deserved.

It was a good tournament, in part, because of the absence of england.

    Great to see them lose the 'underachievers' stigma as well. Taking down both the Germans and Italians in the same tournament is no small feat for any country.
