30+ Must-Have Updated Firefox 3 Extensions
mashable.com — We’ve put together a list of 30+ must-have Firefox 3 extensions that we know you ’ll enjoy, whether you’ve upgraded to Firefox 3 and are looking for something new to add to your browser, or have yet to make the upgrade and are looking for a reason.
- 2732 diggs
- digg it
- AllINeed, on 06/26/2008, -11/+48ooh... I'm an addict for firefox extensions.. great list
- Rekzai, on 06/28/2008, -0/+18I really wouldn't call most of these "Must-Have".
- libertao, on 06/28/2008, -0/+5Are you saying you can survive without FlagFox??
- TracerMan, on 06/28/2008, -0/+3I don't care how must have they are, I bet nobody's getting all of them.
- AlexBellisBrown, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2My house needs an extension.
- burnin8r28, on 06/28/2008, -2/+1https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/606 ...
what bout that one
- Rekzai, on 06/28/2008, -0/+18I really wouldn't call most of these "Must-Have".
- sluggysan, on 06/26/2008, -1/+179there should be an extension that keeps track of when extensions are released that are related to your existing extensions while also extending the capability of such extensions so that their use may be extended
- theWaterboy, on 06/28/2008, -1/+13..yes, and it should be on this list!
- raintheory, on 06/28/2008, -1/+6...and it better have the most generic sounding name possible... so as to avoid confusion as to what it is / what it does... perhaps "firefox extension" .. is that name taken?
- scimitar91, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1i'm sure it would get a cheesy name like "extension fox"
- silfiriel, on 06/28/2008, -8/+3this thing exist and it's called Firefox Update
Tools>Options>Advanced>Upgrades>check the boxes for Firefox and Installed Add-ons and Services
oh, related extensions!!??? Give me an example where you need this kinda thing...- HonoredMule, on 06/28/2008, -3/+2We want a feature. An extension provides it...sort of...poorly. It's all that's available so we use it, and hope an improved alternative (perhaps one that is more directly intended to fulfill that feature) shows up later. We do not intend to troll addons.mozilla.com in perpetuity in the hopes that such an alternative arrives.
- rotten777, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1woooooooooooooooooooooooooosh
- TeraRealm256, on 06/28/2008, -4/+2HAHA!! FTW!
- BradBrown, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2There should be an extension that keeps track of the Digg articles that list Firefox extensions.
- runescape1143, on 06/28/2008, -1/+1That's what we need; an extension, to check for extensions similar to our other extensions, and then itself add more extensions. I foresee a crappy sci-fi flick about this in the not-too-distant future
- fcukthisgame, on 06/29/2008, -1/+2*head asplodes*
- jacque4321, on 06/26/2008, -17/+4Those are Great! We Love Firefox3!
- gllopc, on 06/28/2008, -1/+6Firefox 3 is not a cult leader.
- bashar129, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2Shun the non-believer.
On a different note, I regularly use FF for its speed and adblock, but still occasionally go back to opera for its mouse gestures. I love mouse gestures. If I had only known that there was a firegestures extension for Firefox earlier.
- bashar129, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2Shun the non-believer.
- gllopc, on 06/28/2008, -1/+6Firefox 3 is not a cult leader.
- BloggerNewbie, on 06/26/2008, -21/+15I'll have to check it out. I have been an IE user for 20+ years so when I downloaded the FireFox software kickin and screamin I knew I wouldn't like it! I have been a FireFox fan for about a week now! Love it so far.
- hadak, on 06/28/2008, -0/+12Welcome to Firefox. Been a hardcore user since somewhere around Firebird .7 or some such.
- Twenty, on 06/28/2008, -0/+3Ah, I remember Firebird and Phoenix... and Mozilla. Hopefully they will release an ultralight version of Firefox sometime (again :).
- greenlight2001, on 06/28/2008, -2/+1520 years?! You poor poor soul...
- ryan83189, on 06/28/2008, -1/+16I don't think that internet explorer or any other web browser existed 20 years ago...
- sovereign3, on 06/28/2008, -5/+1I don' think the Internet has existed for 20+ years.
- dbzlotrfan, on 06/28/2008, -1/+6Technically it has, since around the end of the 60's, to be exact. The first e-mail message was sent a month after we landed on the moon. Back than it was called "ARPANET". Ironically that eventually because what we call the internet.
- Technohamster, on 06/28/2008, -0/+8If you were really that old you'd be into netscape, not internet explorer.
- splorpdotorg, on 06/28/2008, -1/+6You've been using IE for 7 years longer than it has existed? Neat-o. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/WinHistoryIE.mspx
- gllopc, on 06/28/2008, -1/+6You tend to exaggerate. From another posting of yours:
"That brings back too many memories...what happened to "happy days"? My nephew, (9 mos old at the time), would come running from anywhere in the house and just flop down in front of the TV for that theme music. Too cute. My favorite today is -Two and a half men- just like the tune!"
Your 9 month old nephew could run? Someone enjoys "Two and a Half Men"? You're a 45 year-old woman but make posts on the joys of Firefox and 1970's TV sitcoms?
Completely implausible.- bdfariello, on 06/28/2008, -1/+5It's implausible that someone who's 45 has both used the internet for more than 20 years and watched Happy Days when it was on? I don't see why [though the 9mo nephew running is unlikely, unless he's Kenyan (cue Power Thirst video)].
- hadak, on 06/28/2008, -0/+12Welcome to Firefox. Been a hardcore user since somewhere around Firebird .7 or some such.
- upick, on 06/26/2008, -3/+5love them extensions... and I love greasemonkey... can't live without it
- freakstyle571, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2Its amazing how usable and good looking digg becomes after a combination of Ad Block plus and various Greasemonkey scripts.

Digg 3.0 Ad Remover
I have gotten to the point that digg seems unusable and ugly without them.- HonoredMule, on 06/28/2008, -1/+8Hey is there a "stop hiding buried comments" script?
Better yet, a "stop hiding the children of buried comments" script.
It's almost like digg is intentionally encouraging me to only respond to or engage in dialogue with people that agree with me or are at least very talented wordsmiths.   *tumbleweed rolls by* Circle-jerks for everyone, I guess. - Molnies, on 06/28/2008, -3/+2@HonoredMule, yeah there is this amazing script called Comment Preferences — you can download it at http://digg.com/settings/viewing
- bashar129, on 06/28/2008, -0/+6@Molnies, I want that same "stop hiding the children of buried comments script" You can't change that in preferences. I don't know who ever thought that would be a good feature to put in digg. People naturally read comments from top to bottom, if the first comment is stupid and you digg it down, it does not mean you do not want to read all the children comments that were under it. I remember that this was a "feature" that was implemented when v2.0 was released I believe, but people complained and it was removed with an update. Why in the world would they bring it back is beyond me.
- HonoredMule, on 06/28/2008, -1/+8Hey is there a "stop hiding buried comments" script?
- freakstyle571, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2Its amazing how usable and good looking digg becomes after a combination of Ad Block plus and various Greasemonkey scripts.
- SquareEnix, on 06/27/2008, -24/+3I eat food.
- HonoredMule, on 06/28/2008, -0/+4The number of buries suggests that the wisdom of crowds contests that point.
Are you sure you eat food?
- HonoredMule, on 06/28/2008, -0/+4The number of buries suggests that the wisdom of crowds contests that point.
- geekchic, on 06/27/2008, -30/+5I "upgraded" back to FF2 as I utterly loathed the so called "awesome bar" - even after I applied the oldbar plug-in and fiddled with a myriad of settings, the damn thing couldn't quite get back to the classic functionality which I have expected ever since some of the first web browsers were released.
Horid thing - and very bad form of the developers to ignore the manyfold complaints on the Mozilla developers website and provide a simple "off switch" to the damn thing.
It is always good to try and improve on things, but when you make a change to such a fundamental aspect of a web browser, and then also ignore the howls of protest and refuse to put in a classic mode switch - I have start to wondering if the developers are getting too big for their boots.- MrHappy123, on 06/28/2008, -4/+23Stop whining
- shotgunefx, on 06/28/2008, -18/+3I'm with you, it f*cking sucks. I want an address bar. I type in urls, a lot, and it's just impossible even with the tweaks to get it to function in a way that is even remotely usable.
An address bar should be an address bar, I can't fathom why it can't be optional.- twiztidsinz, on 06/28/2008, -1/+21How the hell do you have issue with the address bar?
You type the address and hit enter...
You type a partial address and scroll through your history..
You type a partial name of a webpage and it finds it..
Where's the issue? It's not hard to operate the address bar - 16777216, on 06/28/2008, -1/+13Hell, I didn't notice till I figured out that the little star is for bookmarking.
geekchic, shotgunefx : Oh-*****! It's different, can't... adapt... must kill it with fire. - shotgunefx, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2@twitztidsinz: auto complete is pretty much unusable, I don't want to have to type the entire address in, I want to type, say, "y", and get a list of domains that I frequent, that start with "y".
I tend to visit the same sites a lot, and within those sites, maybe there are 3 or 4 urls I hit alot, as opposed to the content pages that I might just peruse, I like that I can type 1 character and get a menu of those frequently used URIs to choose from.
Now with the awesome bar, say I type in "y", and I get a whole bunch of options, most useless, none of which I want. If I'm searching, I'll use the search bar that's two inches away. I also don't like the "rich" appearance of it, to me, takes up to much screen space , just distracts. Even setting it to not search on word boundaries, didn't help. Played with all the permutations, tried out old-bar, and nothing gave me the functionality I lost.
I don't have a problem with it being included, choice is good, I'm sure some people will love it, but a lot of people already don't and never will. If you're going to change a fundamental aspect of your software, you should do it a bit more gingerly and listen a bit more to your users.
It wouldn't be hard to have both at all, early builds had an option to disable it. There's no reason to take the old functionality away from people who like it better.
And I'm not trying to start a flame war here, but to me, it feels like Gnome vs KDE. I want options, sometimes I want to modify the appearance of an app, window decorations and what not, because the situation calls for it, and I don't want to be able to "not" do it, because some developer doesn't think I should want to.
Using the web with FF3 vs FF2, for me, becomes more cumbersome and less productive, for someone who does a lot of his work through a browser, that's a big deal.
Well one good thing is that it's open source, and if they're stubborn enough, fork time. - HonoredMule, on 06/28/2008, -0/+3shotgunefx: All you have to do is start bookmarking the places you visit most often and they will receive priority/be the first options listed over contents from your browsing history. Better still, all you have to do to bookmark them is press the star in the address bar, and the bookmark will be automatically placed somewhere isolated from any bookmarks you currently have organized, causing no disruption to your current way of doing things. I agree that good software ought to be extremely flexible in how the interface is formed and how we interact with it, but if you were willing to cooperate even a little, you would be perfectly happy with Firefox 3 and ABLE to use it as you want. It really sounds like you're just being obstinate and expecting the Firefox 3 team to bend over backwards for you (as if they didn't already have enough sweeping mandates related to producing a very large-scale, high-quality app).
Furthermore, I used the address bar the very same way you do, and was quite attached to it. But I approached Firefox 3 with an open mind, and, though it did take me some time to adjust my usage patterns, I found BETTER ways to organize my content and subsequently access it. I mean no disrespect, but perhaps you should just "suck it up." - shotgunefx, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1@HonoredMule:
I appreciate the reply, actually taking the time to state a thoughtful reply. I didn't realize that about the bookmarks (prioritizing), and I'm sure that would make it a little less harder to digest.
But, one thing I will take issue with is, and this isn't just directed at you, but just because it's FF, it seems to be a lot of Cargo Cult thinking.
Mozilla thinks this is how it should be, some users don't like how it works, so they must be idiots. Which is pretty retarded if you half believe in OSS, because that's kind of the point of it.
But back to your reply, because I didn't like it, you just assumed I had a "closed mind" as opposed to your "open mind", I didn't. I installed it without thinking, expecting it to rock, as it usually does, I just don't think it does.
And it has nothing to do with expecting anyone to bend over backwards, the option was already there and they removed it, probably because one or more of the developers, thought "this is the way it should work, and everyone who doesn't think so is wrong".
That's what I was getting at with the Gnome/KDE aspect, it's like hearing Paul Graham talking about any language that isn't Lisp. Everything that is not Lisp, is crap, and anyone who doesn't think Lisp is the way or prefers anything else is wrong.
- twiztidsinz, on 06/28/2008, -1/+21How the hell do you have issue with the address bar?
- mitch37, on 06/28/2008, -2/+20You mean the new address bar? Christ, its great. Whats your problem.
- HueytheFreeman, on 06/28/2008, -0/+6browser.urlbar.maxRichResults 0
problem fixed.- shotgunefx, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1No, it's not. You still lose the old functionality.
- DrTray, on 06/28/2008, -1/+3I don't get the problem with the "awsome bar" (except the stupid name)
First time I loaded up FF3 and saw it I thought "that new adress bar thing looks cool" and that's about it.
I don't get what is so different, except that's it's supposed to be more intelligent.
Seriously, stop whining. Your favourite software is evolving and alot of people actually like it. Get over it.
- InfamousAtheist, on 06/27/2008, -2/+46Still waiting for an update to make Tabmix+ compatible with FF3 :(
- hiPpymIck, on 06/28/2008, -0/+9http://tmp.garyr.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7031
- wakesabre, on 06/28/2008, -0/+19From the extension's homepage: http://tmp.garyr.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7031
Tab Mix Plus for FF3 - works great! - doshindude, on 06/28/2008, -2/+1It's been working for FF3 since the betas, use Nightly Tester Tools.
- Genma, on 06/28/2008, -1/+3was so dissapointed it wasn't listed when I updated, I even installed a bunch of lame extensions that did the same things as tmp before I figured out where to get the latest build, thank goodness. something like this should be included since there's a working version, who would use ff without tmp, ludicrous. they should call this list "30 extensions that some niche users like alot." some more real must haves
oldbar - the awsome bar is not awsome
refcontrol - the site I just came from is none of your business
quickjava - no hax
resurrect pages - digg kills sites good
download statusbar - new dl manager is still annoying
febe - firefox environment backup extension, self explanatory (beta for fx3) - VodkanLemons, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2you can make it compatible ...
WITHOUT turning off firefox's security... download the extension file, then open it with WinRAR, and then look inside of it. .... there should be a file inside that you can open with notepad and change the firefox version that it will support... just replace 2.0 with 3.0
there's instructions somewhere on google
- WallnutBoy, on 06/27/2008, -5/+4I was expecting some new ones, not just updated old extensions =/
Still, good to know Greasemonkey is back, though.. It was a bitch living without it during RC1 et al- blackcloud333, on 06/28/2008, -0/+630+ Must-Have *Updated* Firefox 3 Extensions
- Dweller99, on 06/27/2008, -3/+108Why do so many of these "must have" lists have so many web developer tools on it? Do they really think that the majority, or even a significant minority, of Firefox users are web developers?
I guess "We’ve put together a list of 5+ must-have Firefox 3 extensions that we know you’ll enjoy along with some fluff like colorful tabs and some tools that 3% of the FF user base will use" does not have the same ring to it.- freehunter, on 06/28/2008, -1/+6They themselves are amature web developers (who downloaded wordpress and installed it to a server they're paying for), and like most amatures, they think as soon as they find something neat in their hobby, they have to throw it onto everyone they meet, claiming they must have some way to use it.
- maximumsteve1, on 06/28/2008, -0/+6I don't know, firebug makes me a power surfer when I'm just browsing. I can easily download streaming content, edit javascript to make a site behave the way I want to, and see neato things like what ajax is doing so I can easily write scripts to autmate data collection from sites. Basically everyone can benefit from firebug, not just developers.
- AudioPhil3, on 06/28/2008, -0/+6Will you powersurf with me?
- javaroast, on 06/28/2008, -2/+3Hit the nail on the head. Not must have. I can live without most of these. There are a few must haves, but 30? I don't want 30 extensions.
- HonoredMule, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2There are exactly two "must have" extensions. Tab Mix Plus (or similar extension), and Ad Block Plus. A few others are really nice to have. Half the extensions on that list are barely better than gimmicks (randomly colored tabs), and their main claim to fame is merely that they are well-made and not garbage code packaged with shiny stickers and promises of perpetual youth.
- burninlover, on 06/27/2008, -7/+4Awesome list for those that don't have these extentions already :)
- xsquirrel378x, on 06/27/2008, -2/+51Theres like 5 good ones there, and only like 2 must haves.
- HueytheFreeman, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2I think most people will agree one of those is ABP. My personal choice for the other one is Tab Mix Plus.
- illegalcortex, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1Unfortunately, Tab Mix Plus has not "officially" been updated for FF3, thus taking it out of the running.
The developer has a FF3-compatible version on their webpage, but for some reason they haven't got it on mozilla's servers yet. Maybe it's still buggy.
- illegalcortex, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1Unfortunately, Tab Mix Plus has not "officially" been updated for FF3, thus taking it out of the running.
- krinthekuz, on 09/16/2008, -1/+2ABP, download status bar, and bugmenot.
gmail manager is nice if you use gmail.
everything else is crap. - diggerachi, on 06/28/2008, -0/+0I totally agree.
Tabmix plus, Download Status Bar, No script, IEtab, and Dictionary Tooltip which also comes in handy. - Kvasaari, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2Adblock Plus & NoScript.
- bluenash, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1One of my very favorites (if you like books) is book burro. While on the web, if you see a book that looks interesting, highlight the title while the FF search bar has amazon selected, it will open in another tab to amazon and book burro will load automatically. informing you if the title is available at the local library.
www.bookburro.org...sorry 'bout the run-on.
- HueytheFreeman, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2I think most people will agree one of those is ABP. My personal choice for the other one is Tab Mix Plus.
- tafkase7en, on 06/27/2008, -10/+245No one needs 30 Firefox extensions. No one.
- anonymix, on 06/28/2008, -17/+2I beg to differ. My daily work/home ff3 has 48.

- HonoredMule, on 06/28/2008, -1/+6Why have so many different extensions that do the same thing? Also, I'm envisioning a firefox GUI that looks like IE on a virus-laden computer: 40% toolbars and status bar icons.

- interad, on 06/27/2008, -9/+2haven't upgraded yet ...
- clonek, on 06/27/2008, -1/+12Foxmarks is one of the only extensions I use. It's just so handy for sharing bookmarks in my dual-boot setup.
Keep your toolbars, I love my screen space!- hadak, on 06/28/2008, -6/+1I can't even get foxmarks set up with the defaults and a new account. it always sits there saying it's writing to the sync file. doesn't do anything else. ever.
- MavRevMatt, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2I use Mozilla Weave but I've been having problems with it recently. Is Foxmarks totally in the background?
- freehunter, on 06/28/2008, -0/+5It has a setup when you first install, then it only shows up if you bookmark a site then close the browser before it has a chance to sync, it will ask if you want to sync the bookmarks first. Other than those two exceptions, you'll never have a problem with it.
- MavRevMatt, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1@freehunter, that's just what I need until Weave adds support for addons and preferances. I think I'll try it out. Thanks.
- Technohamster, on 06/28/2008, -0/+9You need adblock+. Seriously just try it.
- clonek, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1I don't even notice foxmarks except for the tiny icon at the bottom of the window. It automatically syncs and doesn't both me with anything. Just does it's job.
- hadak, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2I was really hoping that Google would release an update for google browser sync...but after some further research, i learned that they are indeed discontinuing it.
- ReidFleming, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2I'd also like to see an updated Google Send To Phone. I don't know the status of that extension. Sure I can just go to http://toolbar.google.com/send/sms/index.php but the FF extension was a bit more elegant.
I also miss the Clusty extension as it was great for right-clicking on a word or phrase and getting either a definition or encyclopedia entry pop-up. I'm really surprised how much I miss that.- hadak, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2Yeah, it's too bad FF isn't a native cocoa application. In any native app, you can highlight a word, and press cmd+ctrl+d to get a dictionary popup.
- ReidFleming, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2I'd also like to see an updated Google Send To Phone. I don't know the status of that extension. Sure I can just go to http://toolbar.google.com/send/sms/index.php but the FF extension was a bit more elegant.
- john570, on 06/28/2008, -12/+1I must be getting old. I dont like firefox. I got the beta just the other day and uninstalled it. I prefer IE.
- shotgunefx, on 06/28/2008, -11/+3Honestly, could care less about FF3, I gave it a whirl, and while it's faster, I F*CKING HATE the "Awesome bar", so as long as there is no way to remove it AND get the old functionality, I'll be sticking to FF2.
- mitch37, on 06/28/2008, -0/+5Even though some of my extensions don't work on FF3, the main reason i upgraded for was the Awesome bar. Its great.
- ShaggyRogers, on 06/28/2008, -0/+5is the "awesome bar" REALLY that big of a pain? nobody's stopping you from just typing away. you don't have to use it, and it's not like it's getting in the way of performance.
or is it? why exactly do you hate it?- shotgunefx, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2As a for instance, say a machine I administer, say I have a few status pages that let me know what's what.
Now with FF2, I type in the first character of the domain, and I usually get a list of those pages that I want to check, so with 2 or 3 keystrokes, I get what I want. With the awesome bar, I lose that.
Yeah, I could use bookmarks, but it's more cumbersome. No I have to go to the Bookmarks menu, pick the folder, navigate to the link I want and click. Now you might not think that's a big deal, but repeated that inconvenience 100 something times a day...
Yeah, you could quicklinks, but you can only fit a few urls up there.
With the awesome bar, I type that character and I get a list of crap, I pretty much have to type in the entire url, so with FF3, bookmarks the way to go, but both ways, are more unproductive then the simple address bar for me.
I don't care that they included it, I'm sure some people will love it, innovation is good, I care that they removed the old functionality, for really, no reason, and it's obvious that a lot of people like the old way and find it more intuitive and productive. - libertao, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2Just click the star on sites you visit more often, leave them in unsorted bookmarks, and they'll come up towards the top. Especially the more you visit them. Or you could use bookmark keywords.
- shotgunefx, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2As a for instance, say a machine I administer, say I have a few status pages that let me know what's what.
- TheLastFreeMan, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1The Oldbar extension gets me pretty close, though.
- legendxx, on 06/28/2008, -11/+109Anyone with 30 extensions is an idiot.
- cowsgonemadd3, on 06/28/2008, -15/+7Stop talking about yourself like that...ha ha
- DontGiveADamn, on 06/28/2008, -4/+9I work on a lot of computers and what you say is true. The more crap they have turned on, the more tool bars, the more auto starting apps the lower the IQ of the user. I am amazed how people can take a fast computer and turn it into a dog.
- bitterscream, on 06/28/2008, -1/+3How much RAM is required for 30 extensions. I smell an experiment in the air!
- danielsamuels, on 06/28/2008, -0/+4I'll do it.
- estvir, on 06/28/2008, -0/+4You're a brave man, danielsamuels.
- danielsamuels, on 06/28/2008, -0/+3Before: 216MB
After: 134MB
That's kinda weird.
Pics or it didn't happen? http://www.danielsamuels.com/fxaddons/
- frostyausty, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2You made me nervous. i thought i was an idiot and then i counted. only 23.
- Holocaust, on 06/28/2008, -2/+49adblock plus FTW!
- wrestlingnrj, on 06/28/2008, -4/+2Wow, most of the extensions I use are on the list.
- twiztidsinz, on 06/28/2008, -2/+5Could anyone who actually knows the finer points of both add-on's briefly explain the difference between NoScript and FlashBlock?
From what I can see, they do very similar things only NoScript does a lot more.- ileftfark, on 06/28/2008, -0/+4Well, you pretty much answered your own question, but NoScript is able to block Flash, Java, and Javascript, and a few other plugins. This feature accomplishes three major goals:
1) Safer Browsing - Executing Javascript in particular can be detrimental if the code is malicious. There's other stuff, too, but you want a brief explanation.
2) Faster Browsing - Loading all the extra ***** on a page takes time, memory and CPU cycles. Try loading Digg.com without Adblock Plus. I dare you.
3) Enhanced Anonymity - If you choose to use proxies, Tor, Secure Tunnel, etc (anonymizers), things like Java or even Flash can still leak information about your computer in a self-defeating fashion. NoScript will make your anonymous surfing more anonymous.
There, does that help?- twiztidsinz, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1More or less :-D Thanks
I'll stick with NoScript as I am happy with it.
As for #2.. nah, I like my ABP :-P
- twiztidsinz, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1More or less :-D Thanks

- loopyloopy, on 06/28/2008, -2/+1Gspace looks useful. dugg for that.
- Awspire, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2What the hell is the point of Gspace? Gmail is not designed for file transfer/storage, and even if you created an account solely for the purpose of using Gspace, any big transfers will get your account suspended. Just because it can be done, doesn't always mean it should.
Sign up for a Microsoft Live account, and you'll get 5GB of FREE online storage with Skydrive, which is for the purpose of actually sharing and storing data online. Plus it uses SSL, allows password protected folders, and more.

- Quilofknowledge, on 06/28/2008, -5/+1I'm definitely downloading the IE tab extension.
- TheLastFreeMan, on 06/28/2008, -2/+11Jeezus F-ing Christ, the binaryturf blog keeps linking to itself...
here is Colorful Tab 3.1
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/136 ...- Ghostalker, on 06/28/2008, -0/+3Thanks TheLastFreeMan, you'd think after getting free advertising on Digg and mashable.com they'd just put in a direct download link.
- unrequited, on 06/28/2008, -17/+11Install Opera and you have about half of these extensions by default (all the ones which aren't one-site specific). Who needs Firefox?
- sevenalive, on 06/28/2008, -2/+7LMAO, What about Adblock Plus. Ya thats what i thought, now continue to browse the internet w/ useless clutter.
I don't like opera, it used to be ad supported and i just hate their UI- yessuz, on 06/28/2008, -6/+4well - opera as default has it's own adblocker.
So - what's the difference? - combatchuck, on 06/28/2008, -1/+3Opera's built-in ad blocker is to Adblock Plus as a jet-ski is to a Nimitz-class supercarrier.
- yessuz, on 06/28/2008, -6/+4well - opera as default has it's own adblocker.
- RyomaNagare, on 06/28/2008, -2/+2funny how the herd diggs you down,
opera does have most of this extension by default.
the funny thing is fffans, keep saying theuy prefer their browser simple, and they do not wish to "hunt" for features, while instaed of nsearching in the help file, pref panels of opera, they use shady online list adding usless bloat.

- lewjeff, on 06/28/2008, -3/+1Whither tinyurl.com ?
- fudged71, on 06/28/2008, -1/+1I'm still waiting for tab mix plus.
However, in the mean time, I am really getting a kick out of TinEye
seriously. look it up.
If I find a picture that I like, I can search for it, and get a Hi-Res version somewhere. Image recognition- illegalcortex, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2Just FYI, did you know they have a FF3 compatible version of TMP on the author's webpage? It's linked to from the mozilla site.

- a1cd, on 06/28/2008, -6/+9Myspace blocker please :)
- benburned, on 06/28/2008, -2/+68I fail to see how "colorful tabs" is a must have.
- vickers500, on 06/28/2008, -0/+4You must not be a synesthesiac.
- shadowmoose, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2I find them helpful. I'm quicker to associate pages with colors then trying to look for placement and reading the label. Maybe that's just me but I like it.
- Malachai, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2A luxury, once sampled, becomes necessity.
- ShaggyRogers, on 06/28/2008, -2/+1I love the idea of extensions... but most of them are useless or impractical for me. I use Ad-Block Plus, but that's it. Everything else is unnecessary.
- ileftfark, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2... for you.
- mooboy322, on 06/28/2008, -2/+5130 more reasons why your firefox is so slow
- cowsgonemadd3, on 06/28/2008, -1/+1IETAB
- Baskins, on 06/28/2008, -0/+6I'd recommend "Research Word" -- https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/380 ... -- to that list. Beefed up version of the integrated right-click menu option when you select a highlighted word/phrase, also customizable. I find myself using it all the time.
- sandiegoliving, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1Great find, much appreciated!
- lamiaconfitor, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1Hyperwords... essentially the same program... with a page previews interface. just a little less professional looking, but just as functional.

- gtluke, on 06/28/2008, -0/+8firebug isn't installing for me
- lamiaconfitor, on 06/28/2008, -0/+3No, it still does not work on FF 3.0. :(

- jasonlfunk, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2getfirebug.com
- lamiaconfitor, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1Actually, Thanks you guys, it didn't take me 3 minutes to tinker around and fix it! :D
(I admit, I am only an amateur techie at best.)
- lamiaconfitor, on 06/28/2008, -0/+3No, it still does not work on FF 3.0. :(
- l815, on 06/28/2008, -3/+6I don't have the patience to go and look for 30 extensions just to find out I never wanted them...
FF3 is awesome, and I love the fact it's open source, but Opera is just a work of art.- HonoredMule, on 06/28/2008, -1/+1I haven't had to go sifting through extensions since FF 1.5. Through lists like these I find extensions that provide interesting features (usually ones I had not considered or previously desired, like GSpace) that may interest me, but my basic operating environment is "complete."
- jdsee, on 06/28/2008, -14/+1Firefox is the best web browser ever, hands down!

- D14BL0, on 06/28/2008, -2/+6Why would you want to install 30 extensions? That just bogs Firefox down to *****.
- maximumsteve1, on 06/28/2008, -3/+7"Firebug - A mainstay of the developer community, Firebug strips down Web pages quickly and lets you work on JAVA, HTML, CSS and more, directly inside the browser."
Wait, I can work on Java directly from my browser now?! LOL how the internet has changed. /sarcasm- lamiaconfitor, on 06/28/2008, -0/+4Still, it is a badass, and convenient program.
- rasde, on 06/28/2008, -3/+2ff2 with noscript and adblock plus is enough imo... ff3 has just so much fluff... and just use sandboxie when going to random sites.. the condom for the internet
- doshindude, on 06/28/2008, -1/+130 extensions? God no, just stick to the basics (adblock plus, tab mix plus) if you don't want your firefox to slow to a chugging halt.
- antipoet, on 06/28/2008, -0/+4I'm really enjoying the piclens add-on. I know I sound like a talking head, but that one has really made image browsing pleasurable for me. Don't read too much into that last sentence.
- lamiaconfitor, on 06/28/2008, -1/+3Dude, you totally looked up a google search for boobies and watched the 3d page fill with awesome bewbiage!
- faizal5k, on 06/28/2008, -0/+5I tried the GSpace extension, and Google suspended my account for a while because it violated their ToS. I advise you use it carefully and don't transfer ***** of data at a time.
- Nivardus, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1Great, I'm loving ColorZilla. TwitterFox stopped the browser from displaying, and I had to disable it in safe-mode, though. :(

- guacamolly, on 06/28/2008, -0/+2what about googlepedia?

- Gracenotes, on 06/28/2008, -0/+6Firebug is effing amazing. A must for anyone interested in JS development on the web. It has a useful JS Object browser (good for analyzing JSON), profiling, debugging, an HTTP request net tracker, an XHR tracker, diagnostic CSS/DOM capabilities, etc. fap fap fap
