- staffell, on 07/23/2008, -1/+33Seriously? Is this guy a tool or what.
"Tabbed Browsing: yes, I know, everyone likes tabbed browsing, but I don’t use it." wtf- atdigg, on 07/23/2008, -0/+7Not to mentioned that even IE has tabbed browsing..
- rpgmaker, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2I thought that he was going to talk about how Firefox still has some ugly memory leaks. I on Linux keep watching Firefox consume 260MB of RAM, it didn't even reached that number on version 2.0. Something is really ***** up in Firefox.
- mattcoady, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2And what is he going on about here:
"With Internet Explorer I open the “Insert Hyperlink” function in MS Word, open the file in IE from my storage area and bingo the link inserts and gives me a chance to type the displayed text."
Also:
"Went to check my e-mail today and immediately realized that my Outlook Express wasn’t integrated into Firefox."
"including Outlook Express may be a bit of a task"
"I had too much work and that involved using Email"
"my preference for Outlook Express makes Firefox less convenient"
"I hate leaving the browser to check and send e-mail."
What a whiny bitch
- MarcFowler, on 07/23/2008, -3/+15Half that isn't even true. Buried because it's basically horse *****.
- Tybee, on 07/23/2008, -0/+16Wow, almost everything he talks about just screams "tool". He is sticking with IE because he likes Outlook Express too much. Tabbed browsing is somhow a "con". And the idiot doesn't seem to know how to go into Firefox's options and switch it very cleanly and easily to ask him where to save a file to. Not running from the current location is more of a security feature than a hindrance. I'm terribly sorry you have to make three or four extra clicks out of your day to run a program. You must be one of those goobers that clicks on random "CLICK HERE TO CLAIM YOUR PRIZE!" banners and automatically run every piece of malware the thing attempts to install on your system. And yes, you dork, the bookmarks toolbar is essentially the exact same as your precious links toolbar.
Please don't reproduce. Or if you have already, don't do it anymore.- BigManOnCampus, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2Liking Outlook Express enough to avoid Firefox is grounds for an insanity plea.
- kingofthisnight, on 07/23/2008, -0/+25It makes me sad that someone willingly uses IE over Firefox.
- BennyGreenberg, on 07/23/2008, -6/+1I am still waffleing back and forth on this. I cannot decide if I like ne batter than the other. I like the speed of FF - But so comfy with IE...
- akpwnz, on 07/23/2008, -0/+9No complaints with FF here - I was die hard IE but am glad I swicthed.
- Iluvator, on 07/23/2008, -2/+2I disagree with the guy's assessment, but it is a little refreshing to hear something besides "I want FireFox's children."
One thing to remember when considering this 'Tool' is that his attitude is mirrored by ~75% of the internet-using population.- Kinsbane, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2Not really. 75% of the internet-using population doesn't even bother seeing if an alternative browser is out there.
- Masternajee, on 07/23/2008, -0/+7I found firefox to be friendly.
- ameologger, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1firefox is good , a browser supported by an army of addons and extensions ,
i don't use it but i do check it from time to time - AmyVernon, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1I use FF almost exclusively. I haven't used IE in years, which annoys my parents beyond belief, because they can't even find it on my computer... when I don't use FF, I use Safari, whose main problem is that a lot of sites aren't coded properly for it... tabbed browsing is the only way!
- versualize, on 07/23/2008, -1/+2So he dumps Firefox because he can't use Outlook Express with it? Standalone email clients are unnecessary. For a website called 'techtalk,' this guy doesn't seem to be very savvy.
- arkarthicked, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2Nothing comes close to FireFox both in terms of security and stability. I know FF3 will take sometime to get used to. But the guy's bias towards IE is simply indigestible!
- lucy22, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2Great browser.
- neognostic, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2I love FF, I hate it when I'm on other people's computers and have to use IE, slow and cumbersome. Anybody heard when the Minimize to Tray add on will be available?
- Xtanto, on 07/23/2008, -0/+0The only site I visit with IE is www.getfirefox.com!
- jobshuk, on 08/02/2008, -0/+0Minimize to Tray - one of my favorites!
Found a compatible version here: http://www.savefile.com/files/1618642
- theanoopk, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1I found it a great browser............
but sometimes JavaScript codes doesn't work.
one thing also dislike about Firefox is that one can see your saved passwords, on your system.
there should be a security that saved passwords should not visible so easily.
..
..
Ignoring these two cons Firefox is awesome, so fast n secure n easy to work with it.- Kinsbane, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2You can setup a master password in Firefox to handle the password issue, I believe. Also, JavaScript is pretty inherent on the website developer, not the browser.
- Fu22yLojik, on 07/23/2008, -0/+7Such a shame that the author of this article entered into his review knowing the outcome. Unquestionably one can find cons to any program if one seeks them out, and his review is so clearly preferential from the onset that he cannot even begin to claim to be neutral. He has integrated himself so heavily into the Microsoft product family that he has no hope of objectively reviewing this article. It would be akin to saying doesn't like a Ferrari because it doesn't come with an ipod dock.
The reason that IE still controls as much of the market share as it does is not testament to the superiority of the browser, it is testament to the inferiority of knowledge the average computer user has.
JM2C's - aussiepro, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1FireFox will always be king in my book.
http://www.mobgizmo.com - Kinsbane, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2Buried as lame.
- WallnutBoy, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1Lame? Buried as inaccurate.
- stronglikedan, on 07/23/2008, -1/+2Th author doesn't use FF because AOL doesn't support it.
- RTPMatt, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1I don't get it, double click a file in the download list does run it, ie => outlook, firefox => thunderbird, but it all depends on what email service your using, my gmail works fine with FF. The first page on the options menu lets you select if you want to choose a D/L dir. and i'm not sure if you can call something a con if you don't use it. that's like saying its a con the windows runs open office, because i use MS Office. And this guys cant see that the link bar and the bookmark bar are the same thing?
How was he able to write this article if he is this inept at using a computer? - Yarkz, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3About the cons, here is what I have to say to everyone he lists.
1. So I never use standalone clients and how is it firefox's fault?
2. IE has it too just done much worse.
3. Why the ***** would you not like that it's freakin awesome.
4. So the file doesn't end up in a temp directory and take up harddrive space it ends up in a real spot were you can easily delete it and you have to do (I counted) 2 extra clicks.
Bury this. - xeemo, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1what time period is this guy in? it's like something i would have read back when firefox was just gaining popularity. i haven't used IE in years.
- borez, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1You just fell of the internets
- cjshamrock, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1I tried, but I'm back at 2.0 and very happy. V3.0 is just sloooooooow.
- life38, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2I was frustrated at first because there was no warning on how things were going to change. then someone explained tabs. Well I had never turned it on. Well, now that I know I am very happy with firefox. IE just is too touchy to always work.
- shogan191, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1Wow, thanks for all the comments. I'm not sure why some seem so personally effected by my use of IE and Outlook Express but I certainly respect your opinion and defend your right to use any browser you choose. As I mentioned in my article, Firefox always on my desktop and I do occasionally use it. It's just not my default browser. I almost wonder why some are having so many problems with IE. Seems pretty simple and straight forward to me. I'm sure that if I were having problems I would be looking for an alternative browser but so far it works like a champ. I used Opera for a while in the past and enjoyed it. infact it was my favorite for a while, but after about 6 months I found myself drifting back to IE.
Anyway thanks for all the input and opinions. - pjpereira, on 07/24/2008, -0/+0i like and use firefox (also opera). i don't like ie and 7 is the worts
