- NCSUspoon, on 06/11/2008, -1/+3Strange that the pledge page doesn't have the date on it.
- AmaDaden, on 06/11/2008, -0/+2from the FAQ on the site...
When is Download Day?
Download Day will coincide with the general availability of Firefox 3. The clock will start ticking when Firefox 3 goes out the door! We don’t have a definitive date for Firefox 3 yet, but it should be in June.

- amitkarpe, on 06/17/2008, -0/+0Great Day !!!
I love Firefox.

With every one of these community marketing programs, from The New York Times ad in 2004, to Firefox Flicks, to the Firefox crop circle, to Operation Firefox, and now Download Day 2008, I am repeatedly blown away by the passion and the creativity of the Mozilla community.
There's something really special about this worldwide group of enthusiasts and participants that just doesn't exist anywhere else. It's more than a software project. It's a movement, and on days like today I'm reminded what a positive force for change Mozilla -- the millions of people that make it, can be.- estvir, on 06/11/2008, -8/+17I.. I think I'm going to start crying.
- timsline, on 06/11/2008, -10/+1Over software that you probably had no part in developing? That's kind of pathetic.
- directrix13, on 06/11/2008, -1/+4I... I think he was joking.
- estvir, on 06/12/2008, -0/+2I was obviously being sarcastic and I was mocking asadotzler and the people who Dugg him up for reaching a level of being pathetic only known to Mac users.
- timsline, on 06/11/2008, -10/+1Over software that you probably had no part in developing? That's kind of pathetic.
- rodrigo74, on 06/11/2008, -9/+1"There's something really special about this worldwide group of enthusiasts and participants"
...it's called money. Mozilla Foundation has lots of them. Enthusiasm alone wouldn't make it.- dsmx, on 06/11/2008, -2/+4It forced microsoft to actually update internet explorer so on that front they should be held aloft like gods.
- rodrigo74, on 06/11/2008, -4/+4I agree. From the diggs down I am getting, I suppose people assumed I am trying to bash Firefox or something, which is not true; I couldn't live without FF. I was just pointing out that a full ad page in the NYT, a crop circle, stuff like that cost money; there are lots of other open source projects full of enthusiasts that suffer from the lack of funding. When it comes to OSS, mind-share is very important, because it breaks the chicken-egg paradox (people don't use a piece of software because they never heard about it, and they never heard about it because nobody uses it).
For instance, it would be awesome if the video card and manufacturers would feel the same type of pressure from the OSS community as Microsoft felt from FF.

- IglooBurner, on 06/11/2008, -1/+2How are people in North Korea doing this? I thought they can't access the internet.
- dhice, on 06/11/2008, -1/+3Kim Jong-il obviously has 221 WoW bots running, and one computer for porn.
- timsline, on 06/11/2008, -2/+4Give it some time before the word "fanboy" starts cropping up.
- elucubra, on 06/11/2008, -7/+3Yeah, great marketing skills, to set a WORLD record with an ENGLISH-ONLY site...
I was gonna let many of my friends know, but how are they going to read the stuff?
Oh I forgot about the WORLD SERIES, and all the other U.S.-only "world" championships....- athenius22, on 06/11/2008, -0/+6There's a drop-down at the top for language selection.
- Remmiz, on 06/11/2008, -1/+2Cue the "waa waa waaaa" sound.

- bongbishop, on 06/10/2008, -7/+25I can't think of anything that brings the best of the net together the way Firefox has. FF3 will rule when it's released.
- sittered, on 06/11/2008, -1/+12I still can't believe it's free. Solid-as-hell piece of software.
- dood, on 06/11/2008, -2/+10They have plenty of money. They make a ton from Google.
- sittered, on 06/11/2008, -1/+16Well, good for them, because if they charged, I'd pay.
- xino, on 06/11/2008, -5/+2@sittered http://store.mozilla.org/product.php?code=MZ9008&c ... You can buy Firefox 2 there if you want. Wow, just imagine Firefox 3 coming out and then not only setting the record for the most downloaded software in 24 hours, but the most copies of a web browser sold in 24 hours.
- Ortheos, on 06/11/2008, -8/+3"Well, good for them, because if they charged, I'd pay."
Don't give them any nasty ideas old chap, because I'm not prepared to pay for something to has been free for so long, no matter how ace it is.
- mossblaser, on 06/11/2008, -7/+8You'd be surprised how much excelent free software there is arround. (It only gets better on linux really [end advertisment]) but really, think about it, with the exception of adobe microsoft and apple there are very few companies that produce excelent software and then charge you for it.
- dood, on 06/11/2008, -2/+10They have plenty of money. They make a ton from Google.

- bombadier337, on 06/11/2008, -4/+34Guinea seems to be dragging their feet. Only 35 pledges. Come on Guinea!
- ktek, on 06/11/2008, -0/+7Damn Guinea. Step Your Game Up!
- Ocelot13, on 06/11/2008, -1/+29isnt that like the majority people in guinea that have the internet?
- midriscoll09, on 06/11/2008, -0/+5The gambia only has 29 :(
- HorseloverFat8, on 06/11/2008, -5/+5And NEW Guinea only has 49. Come on Guineas of the world! Unite for Firefox.
- n0t0kayipr0mis3, on 06/11/2008, -6/+24Uhm i got a question, if you d/l the new vers. does it delete the old one or do you have to do that yourself?
- ElBeh, on 06/11/2008, -1/+16It uninstalls it. You don't have to uninstall the old version manually.
- unpolloloco, on 06/11/2008, -1/+31uninstalls the old, installs the new, saves the old settings, and applies it to the new
- webkami, on 06/11/2008, -6/+1It rhymes better than a rap song. Any takers?
- Memnochxx, on 06/11/2008, -28/+7Never used a computer before?

- nickbarber, on 06/11/2008, -5/+16Why is it that the people who are actually asking relevant questions getting dugg down? Oh, crap. I just asked relevant question. I'm doomed!
- coboman, on 06/11/2008, -7/+54Cuba 326? North Korea 217? I thought the internet was banned in those countries.

- empraptor, on 06/11/2008, -2/+2Don't know about Cuba, but I've heard that some (privileged few and their family?) in NK have internet.
But Jibberwalk's answer is probably better explanation for the number. - Jalh, on 06/11/2008, -3/+2many people pay for "illegal" internet in cuba other just access from their work's computers or gov.
- flamov, on 06/11/2008, -1/+9Hell yeah! I'm going to the Hong Kong party :D
- Shivalyn, on 06/11/2008, -14/+2I thought China banned the internet?
And, well, all personal liberties too.
- Shivalyn, on 06/11/2008, -14/+2I thought China banned the internet?

- silfiriel, on 06/11/2008, -3/+5i think (although my opinion is irrelevant) that they will release it when the pledges reach 2 million. So somewhere between 20th and 30th June. It will be this month that's for sure
- BobCock, on 06/11/2008, -2/+2doesn't matter...
- theotheragentm, on 06/11/2008, -1/+1Soon enough.

- rossisdead, on 06/11/2008, -16/+11As someone who tells everyone to use Firefox, what the hell is so important about pledging downloads? Is it so they can guess how much bandwidth they'll need that day under the guise of some sort of internet holiday?
- o0jrock0o, on 06/11/2008, -2/+10They are trying to set a world record for most downloads on a piece a software in a day, I think.
- xino, on 06/11/2008, -3/+3Good question. I don't see the importance of it either. I like looking at it once in a while just to see how many people actually pledge, but I am not actually going to pledge. I am just going to download it when it comes out.
- xino, on 06/11/2008, -1/+3Just imagine if Microsoft did some thing like this for IE 8.
- xino, on 06/11/2008, -1/+2I am not saying it would be cool, but it would be interesting to see how people would react to such a thing. I imagine it would be really funny.
- reddevild, on 06/11/2008, -2/+1But they would have to have how many people would pledge NOT to download it
I would be first in line
- reddevild, on 06/11/2008, -2/+1But they would have to have how many people would pledge NOT to download it

- jerrycurley, on 06/11/2008, -27/+3All counts how? How on earth do you think this matters one bit?
I mean to REGULAR people. People with worthwhile lives.- gta3uzi, on 06/11/2008, -3/+16Way to be a flaming vagina-cleaner.
- crowbarred, on 06/11/2008, -2/+9Im not worthy of your attention jerrycurley, so why are you on digg in the first place?
- SupaDawg, on 06/11/2008, -4/+7exactly what i was thinking. :)
Yo! Pot! Why don't you just ***** right off? Us kettles are just fine around here without your ignorant self.
- SupaDawg, on 06/11/2008, -4/+7exactly what i was thinking. :)

- lkms, on 06/11/2008, -10/+5I bet 1 cent they release it on june 30th.
also I didn't pledge as I think that this is really dumb campaign, but will d/l it the day it gets released anyways if I can.. although with all these false advertisements most people will probably get bored checking the site for release and will miss the time.- jroussell, on 06/11/2008, -1/+1if you pledge they send an email when they announce the release date.
- techjunkie2008, on 06/11/2008, -0/+0they email u the date so you dont have to check it.
- damntourists, on 06/11/2008, -1/+8awesome, i love what i see in the new firefox so far, definitely looking forward to the future of firefox.
- dullnation, on 06/11/2008, -13/+4Ha, I totally forgot Alaska is a US state. That through me off with the 100,000+ mark there for a moment :)
Also, the UK is beating Canada! Wtf? And Russia. Theres loads more people there!
Apparently, there are a few hundred Nigerian scammers that prefer Firefox too.- jojohippo, on 06/11/2008, -0/+3Actually the UK has twice as many people as Canada (60 million to our 30 million) so Canada's not doing too badly.
- NeoNightmareX, on 06/11/2008, -5/+79387 in Andorra? That is like their entire population!
- xino, on 06/11/2008, -2/+15That's awesome. Firefox dominated an entire country. What country will be next?
- viserov, on 06/11/2008, -0/+16Isn't that the country with the people with blue skin, white hair, and antennae?
- turkoftheplains, on 06/11/2008, -1/+7No, no, no, you're thinking of Liechtenstein.
also: Andorra was officially involved in World War I until 1957-- they forgot to include them in the Treaty of Versailles.

- jerrycurley, on 06/11/2008, -26/+16Do you not see the patheticness of this very idea? PLEDGING to download a ***** web browser?
- ktek, on 06/11/2008, -2/+15Its called marketing
- dood, on 06/11/2008, -3/+1That's what he said, pretty much.
- jerrycurley, on 06/11/2008, -3/+1I am not knocking them doing it. I am knocking (and mocking) the losers who are actually bothering to go and make the pledge.
Basically...I am mocking YOU and calling YOU a pathetic loser, since it is clearly true. I am not mocking Mozilla.- twiztidsinz, on 06/11/2008, -2/+2I am not knocking them doing it. I am knocking (and mocking) the losers who are actually too stupid to realize viral marketing when they see it.

And anyway, won't FF2 pick up that there is a new version out and download it for you anyway?- matbot3i, on 06/11/2008, -1/+2From what I understand, because this is an official record they're trying to set, upgrades don't count.
http://www.spreadfirefox.com/en-US/worldrecord/faq
The pledge is pointless, yes, but it's marketing and it's probably working.
- matbot3i, on 06/11/2008, -1/+2From what I understand, because this is an official record they're trying to set, upgrades don't count.
- init100, on 06/11/2008, -2/+1Well, they are going to hold a record attempt, and I want to do my part. This pledge gives them my email address so that I can get a notification then the date approaches.

You know that if Microsoft were hyping anything with such an obscure release date, you'd be "epic fail"-ing it from here to Redmond, don't you?- tyler0is0sexy, on 06/11/2008, -9/+5That's because Microsoft might never get around to releasing the product
- maninalift, on 06/11/2008, -4/+7That's the difference between closed development and open development. If people can see what the developers are doing and run the current version they feel part of the community and are patient. If on the other hand a developer treats you like a customer you will act like a customer.
- directrix13, on 06/11/2008, -0/+2Its the people's software ;-).
- DanInAUSTRALIA, on 06/11/2008, -3/+28congratulations to the firefox team for putting out such a fantastic product and making browsing the net better for us all

- vibrate, on 06/11/2008, -1/+2As much as i like Safari and its super -fast page rendering times (and when using wifi in cafes or whatever it is REALLY noticeable), FF is still my preferred work browser due to all the excellent webdev addons
- SupaDawg, on 06/11/2008, -0/+7When Safari:PC gets past the "Major ass sucking" faze of its development i may give it a reconsideration, but as it is now, It doesn't hold a candle to FF. Hell, IE7 is better than Safari on Windows.

- chroto, on 06/11/2008, -17/+9this is terribly stupid

- xino, on 06/11/2008, -2/+2Wrong. Using the Mosaic web browser today is terribly stupid.
- xino, on 06/11/2008, -1/+1To everyone that dugg me down, is the Mosaic web browser your favorite right now?
- init100, on 06/11/2008, -2/+1Using the Internet Explorer web browser today is incredibly stupid.
- WomensUnderwear, on 06/11/2008, -1/+0I am incredibly stupid
- himthatwas, on 06/11/2008, -10/+21 million for Firefox!. That's great but how's the Uwe petition doing?
http://digg.com/movies/Uwe_Boll_Will_Quit_Making_M ... - speel, on 06/11/2008, -7/+8217 north Koreans hmm
- mannymix03, on 06/11/2008, -1/+14I just want to know who the 39 people who pledged in Rwanda are
- gannondork, on 06/11/2008, -1/+5I just wanna know where the gold's at.
- MooNinja, on 06/11/2008, -1/+2give me the gold, must be a crack head!
- aComa, on 06/11/2008, -6/+1"who the 39 people who pledged in Rwanda WERE"
They were quickly eliminate in order to divert attention from the country.
- gannondork, on 06/11/2008, -1/+5I just wanna know where the gold's at.
- erhanaltay, on 06/11/2008, -8/+1An utterly worthless publicity stunt. That being said, FireFox is by far the best browser currently available. The add ons and customization are just amazing. Using IE or Opera makes me feel like one of my hands are tied behind my back.
- nmanguy, on 06/11/2008, -1/+3It might be worthless to you, but at least it's fun for the rest of us.
- xino, on 06/11/2008, -1/+2If you had one hand actually behind your back while using IE or Opera, would that make you feel like both hands are behind your back? That's a weird concept.
- MuffinPatrol, on 06/11/2008, -4/+16Only 49 people pledged in Chad? Come on Chad we can do better.
- silfiriel, on 06/11/2008, -1/+2Chad is fine. The scandinavians are too weak. I expected much more from them, considering that it's one of their own that started the whole open source thing
- turkoftheplains, on 06/11/2008, -0/+5I always wondered why Chad never decided to go by its middle name.
- richmcl, on 06/11/2008, -1/+1when I lived in Chad there were no computers. Easy to get surface to air missiles, but no computers. It is the poorest country in the world per capita.
- translati, on 06/11/2008, -6/+20Did anyone else get the Firefox 3 update today in Hardy Heron?
- derram, on 06/11/2008, -2/+8I was wondering the same thing, as I'm using it now.
- Bananas21ca, on 06/11/2008, -6/+3Same here. Im assuming the public release is coming real soon.
http://digg.com/software/Firefox_3_Released_Well_f ... - spanglegluppet, on 06/11/2008, -2/+3Got it as well.
- hieveryone, on 06/11/2008, -1/+2I got the update for hardy yesterday, actually. Kinda wondering if I should still download on download day...
- ArthurSucks, on 06/11/2008, -2/+2Yeah, that ***** broke my grease monkey plugin... Still worth it though.
- boetnet, on 06/11/2008, -1/+1It says Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; fr; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008060309 Firefox/3.0 but is it the final release?
- directrix13, on 06/11/2008, -0/+2A 3.0 release candidate will just show 3.0 not 3.0rc1, because release candidates are candidates for release (i.e. it might end up being 3.0 if no major problems are found).
- leejarratt, on 06/11/2008, -1/+1I also got the update, last night. Very strange..
- WomensUnderwear, on 06/11/2008, -0/+0I greased my monkey and got a Hairy Hardon
- nmanguy, on 06/11/2008, -11/+6I'm surprised some Mac user hasn't bust in and said "GUYS SAFARI IS BETTER!". And yes, Translati, I did get the Firefox update in Hardy Heron
- fbogner, on 06/11/2008, -1/+5I'm a Mac user! But i think Firefox is better! It supports Extensions!
- frosted, on 06/11/2008, -1/+1Safari sucks on ANY platform. Go surf the net more.
- ThreeDee912, on 06/11/2008, -0/+1The 2.0 release of Firefox on Mac is a bit slow, but the new 3.0 release is much faster, and even uses real Cocoa widgets and dialogs.
I use a mix of both Firefox and Safari.
Good old market share competition at work...
- techmite, on 06/11/2008, -25/+3Opera is a way better standalone web browser than firefox . only the addons for firefox make it worth else its a crap . http://www.techjunkiez.com added a free sms system couple of months back which was having problems only with firefox.
- nmanguy, on 06/11/2008, -5/+2My Digg-senses tell me you are soooo going to get dugg down.
- xino, on 06/11/2008, -2/+5A free sms system was having problems only with Firefox? That sucks. Thanks for telling me. I am going to dump Firefox ASAP! How anyone can put up with a web browser that can't handle a free sms system is beyond me.
/sarcasm - Niz1, on 06/11/2008, -1/+1i know this may be stupid but a long time ago when i was open to new browsers OPERA was not free and they had damn banner ads. So i aint going back to it. Yes im cheap!
- novemberdobby, on 06/11/2008, -1/+1'Free' isn't cheap enough for you?
- santaliqueur, on 06/11/2008, -10/+5I wouldn't imagine many downloads were for new users.
Even so, 1 million is great for Mozilla.- steamedrice11, on 06/11/2008, -2/+4The world record is about how many people download it in 24 hours, not how many new Firefox users Mozilla gets in 24 hours.
- santaliqueur, on 06/11/2008, -2/+3Then what is it actually achieving?
- steamedrice11, on 06/11/2008, -2/+4The world record is about how many people download it in 24 hours, not how many new Firefox users Mozilla gets in 24 hours.
- arielb86, on 06/11/2008, -3/+5with the pledge of 1 mil, i would like to assume they are also getting their servers and mirrors ready right? would be sad if the servers collapse right that day due to overload bandwithd
- mossblaser, on 06/11/2008, -1/+2If they do it the way most OS apps do on the first day then they'll be fine. I mean while the numbers downloading on the first day will be much larger than for the various linux projects, they outsize it in the file sizes and they survive quite well, then again these days people use torrents more and i doubt people would bother for a browser.
- bencanfield, on 06/11/2008, -7/+2Anyone have a link to the old record? I'd really like to see who holds the record now.
- xino, on 06/11/2008, -1/+5The first time I heard about this Firefox 3 download day on digg, people said that there was no current record holder. It sounded like whatever record Firefox 3 gets will be the first one recorded in the Guiness World Records.
- frostw, on 06/11/2008, -4/+2Probably in the "Who gives a *****" section.
- xino, on 06/11/2008, -1/+5The first time I heard about this Firefox 3 download day on digg, people said that there was no current record holder. It sounded like whatever record Firefox 3 gets will be the first one recorded in the Guiness World Records.
- godspeedyou, on 06/11/2008, -20/+15Wow. This is the lamest thing I've ever seen.
- twiztidsinz, on 06/11/2008, -5/+6And yet it was important enough for you to to take time out of your important live and voice your displeasure.
- HappyScrappy, on 06/11/2008, -14/+9Ridiculously, unbelievably lame.
And I use Firefox. I enjoy it. I but stupid stunts like this are good for nothing.- steamedrice11, on 06/11/2008, -3/+2well, if you compare this to other world records... I think this one is pretty sensible
- enjoy18, on 06/11/2008, -8/+0Long Live Firefox!
- SarahC, on 06/11/2008, -7/+7I'm ashamed the UK's not red, but orange.
Jeez.
What a bunch of technophobes we are. =(- aliguana, on 06/11/2008, -8/+2remember what that guy from the BBC said... there's only like 3 linux users in the Uk. The rest use Internet Explorer. Or something...
- leejarratt, on 06/11/2008, -1/+0I must be one of the three then :P
- aliguana, on 06/12/2008, -0/+1and my two Linux machines make up the other two :)
- leejarratt, on 06/11/2008, -1/+0I must be one of the three then :P
- maninalift, on 06/11/2008, -2/+4beaten by France!
- edwardmluk, on 06/11/2008, -1/+4Jeez? What kind of Brit are you? =)
- Niz1, on 06/11/2008, -1/+2ahh hopefully more people will do it after seeing this, i diddnt actually know about it until this post! (In the UK btw)
- aliguana, on 06/11/2008, -8/+2remember what that guy from the BBC said... there's only like 3 linux users in the Uk. The rest use Internet Explorer. Or something...
- jqjq, on 06/11/2008, -6/+1I don't like this Firefox version because I can't use it with Lingoes, a multilingual translation software.
- tom66, on 06/11/2008, -0/+0You might want to file a bug...
- twiztidsinz, on 06/12/2008, -0/+1He's just trolling
- tom66, on 06/11/2008, -0/+0You might want to file a bug...
- gibler, on 06/11/2008, -7/+2Well you are lucky then ... sometimes we actually get cut off the edge of maps. We must lift our numbers though...

- geneticlone, on 06/11/2008, -8/+2Are there any government or official websites we can use to register to vote in this election? I kinda don't trust private companies...
- Scaryclouds, on 06/11/2008, -4/+10I'm very unhappy with Lichenstein's lack of enthusiasm for FF3. I think we need to invade them and teach them some more democracy.
- mossblaser, on 06/11/2008, -1/+2Lichenstein has more banks than people (or at least so they tell you) it is a tax haven - the place is tiny anyway and the population is somewhere arround 35,365 of which most are farmers who most likely don't have regular access to the internet.
- boetnet, on 06/11/2008, -2/+2Located between Swiss and Austria we are too busy to watch the UEFA Euro 2008 right now. Sorry
- jorgenmz, on 06/11/2008, -0/+1Went there once (Vaduz).
It happened that I had to use the interwebs, but the only public place I could find a computer connected was in the post office (and it was very expensive!)
- mt3ch, on 06/11/2008, -10/+5171? Damn Mongolians! Pull it together or I'll pour sweet and sour pork on your heads.
- spanglegluppet, on 06/11/2008, -6/+14Nearly 17,000 pledges, go Australia.
- yellowcakewalk, on 06/11/2008, -6/+1Wow, if I had not been busy working to overthrow fascism here in the USA, I would have found this important.
- akilleen, on 06/11/2008, -0/+2Glad found the time in your busy schedule to post in this thread.
