Firefox 3 mentioned on the Colbert Report
arstechnica.com — The official release of Firefox 3 has received widespread attention from the press and has gained a few unexpected allies, including television show host Stephen Colbert. In an episode of the Colbert Report that was aired on the same day as the Firefox 3 release, Colbert interviewed open Internet advocate Jonathan Zittrain, who encouraged Colbert t

G4, though, I'll give you that. I do see a few things reported on AotS that I've seen on Digg. But, well, they talk about Digg occasionally too (about new features and such), so it's not really a surprise. - sickanimations, on 06/20/2008, -1/+7There's this Radio presenter here in Victoria, Australia that I'm sure is using Digg. - SuckMyDigg, on 06/20/2008, -10/+4Wow colbert is so hip it's unbelievable!
Seriously the guy is a living legend after that white house correspondent's dinner... but he's slowly losing his edge with all his craptastic corporate whoredom. You can't even watch a show of his anymore without having to sit through 5 minutes of him rambling about how great doritos are or his ben & jerry's ice cream. Bleh.- sickanimations, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1I suppose there was that STIHL promotion.
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1After the corespondent's dinner, they didn't invite him back the following year. Theory is that the "higher ups" didn't appreciate the humor.
- brutimus, on 06/20/2008, -4/+12CNN had an entire short segment on the Firefox 3 launch. Yet one *tiny* mention of it on this show makes news.
- rebotfc, on 06/20/2008, -2/+27Because Comedy Centrals news coverage is better than CNNs.
- Fauxriginal, on 06/20/2008, -2/+5So, you'd rather digg up an article covering CNN's coverage of Firefox 3?
I think the reason this is being dugg, and is interesting, is that The Colbert Report is clearly a comedy show. It's news based, but comedy nonetheless. I'd expect CNN to cover something like this, but The Colbert Report is a surprise.- brutimus, on 06/20/2008, -0/+2I dunno... I guess I'm looking at it more from the "mainstream" perspective. I'm wanting Firefox to get as much publicity as possible and I was just thinking how the percentage of viewers of this show that know what Firefox is would be substantially higher than those viewers of CNN.
I think it's great that both shows mention it, I have no qualms with that.

- cubeeggs, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1Firefox doesn't check Google for every page by default for privacy reasons. It downloads a hashed list ahead of time and compares the URLs on the client-side.
