Firefox TV Commercial
dailymotion.com — This is a very slick commercial for the Firefox browser...

- Buddhist, on 10/12/2007, -10/+19That's actually pretty cool.
- walterk29, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25Another: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/flicks/whatshot.html
Part of the Firefox Flicks campaign: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spread_Firefox#Firefox_Flicks - Lixie, on 10/12/2007, -8/+43It doesn't even hint to what the commercial is about until near the end. It's nice, but it could definitely have been done better.
- VipeNess, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21this was part of a contest, which firefoxflicks.com allowed users to post their videos to be put on tv, and whichever video had the most posts, would be the commerical, which this was NOT the commerical. The top commerical can be seen here in their post popular by vote system
http://www.firefoxflicks.com/flicks/index.php?&sort=pop
this was the winning video

i would love to see this video on the TV, which the video makes complete sense, being that I use all the browsers daily. - MalDON, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21The Whee! video was on digg a while back.
http://digg.com/software/Best_Firefox_ad_ever - Shorties, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3When did the FireFox ads air on TV? And are they still airing? I haven't seen one in the wild yet!
- MuteMathSSR, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I was so scared it was going to be those lame faces on the logo's commerical AGAIN!!
- anchorman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The four commercials currently on tv can be found at
http://www.firefox.com/tv
Wheee came in second place.
The winner was Daredevil.
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/press/mozilla-2006-04-27.html - b3mus3d, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13There's an *enormous* problem with this advert, and this is the fact that nobody knows what it means by 'being burned...?'
Now if they went ahead and TOLD everyone that the reason they have about 6 extra toolbars like mywebsearch, dialer exes that can't be deleted from the desktop, spyware and adware and more, then perhaps they could get the average computer user to switch.
I think that it would possibly be a good idea for them to team up with lavasoft, the people who made ad-aware, and launch a campaign for 'cleaning your computer' (except probably better phrased than that) - TheCount, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13I love firefox but this is neither slick nor memorable, I think they could do better.
- yahoofrom, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii~
- coldfusion1970, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@ anchorman
The third place FF advert (the one with the girl in the fox outfit) is great.
But my favourite is the computer generated Eskimo one. - droxy429, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I already use firefox, however if i was an IE user and saw this commercial on TV. It wouldn't inspire me to get off my couch and download firefox.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1
It doesn't even hint to what the commercial is about until near the end. It's nice, but it could definitely have been done better.
It's a little depressing. You wouldn't want to see that ad repeatedly at dinner time. - bradleyland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"It doesn't even hint to what the commercial is about until near the end. It's nice, but it could definitely have been done better."
Sigh. Every time a Firefox commercial hits digg, the same old comments get made. Advertising is not about plastering your product name all over the screen for the full 30 seconds, it's about generating interest. This ad has a lot going for it. You DON'T know what's going on at the beginning, and that's what draws you in. Curiosity killed the cat, and it also generated a lot of sales revenue. We tune out what we know to be advertisements, so effective advertising has turned to mini-flix that draw you in and get you curious.

- Herzasche, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Very cool cant wait to see in on my tv in my part of the world
- robwolf100, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2From every Soccer Mom, "Whats a Browser?"
- ndonohue, on 10/12/2007, -3/+50I still like the "retarded browsers" commercial better
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9BON5nd8Fg- MuTeD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ahhhh that was great, I use Safari, but that was great.
- sion2119, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1both commercial are ok at best.
- MoeB, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1was this actually on tv? if not then why don't you call it commercial.
- manfrin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yes it was on TV.
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/flicks/ - scott1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I wouldn't call it a commercial, firefox is open source not a commercial product, it should be called an openmerical.
- manfrin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yes it was on TV.
- italianandproud, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3i never plan on using IE again. i think it would be kinda cool if they attempted making an OS.
- devnill, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"i think it would be kinda cool if they attempted making an OS."
Do you have any idea how much work this takes? Linux is the closest comparison, and it takes hundreds of people working hundreds of thousands of hours to make it work. - LaPistola, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Haha.. I think they have their hands full with firefox... plus linux is the firefox of the OS world anyway..
- richwalkup, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I would have to disagree with the last comment about comparing linux and firefox. I love linux, but firefox was an improvement in usability over every other browser in the market, whereas linux is not even close. The easiest linux installation I have ever used was Ubuntu, yet the lack of support for devices (mostly wireless devices) and the clunkyness of most of the apps (not to mention the availability of commercial quality apps) makes it completely unusable for most people. Before everyone starts bitching, please note that I said MOST people. Hopefully within the next few years, Ubuntu will be the Firefox of the OS world, but until then we're stuck with the IE version (Windows) unless you buy a Mac. The only problem with that is every Mac user I know has bootstrap or something loaded so they can "boot into windows when I need to" which makes me question the viability of a Mac. I'd love to see an improvement in linux usability and those critical apps everyone needs windows for ported to Mac AND linux so we could all have the ability to actually choose an alternative that works for everything - not just most of the time. Until then, I'll stick to Windows as my primary OS and switch to Linux when I can.
- devnill, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"i think it would be kinda cool if they attempted making an OS."
- westoncampbell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I only use IE for Windows Update and for websites that won't work in any other browser no matter what I do to try tricking it to think that Firefox is IE.
- Cymrubeats, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16I think it sucks and says nothing about FF. You'll probably even get people thinking it'll set their computers on fire (you know, the people silly enough to still be using I.E 6 or 5.5).
- a99tandem, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Yeah.. i love FF.. but I hate that commercial. Pretty damn stupid.
- ba11k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Completely agree. The first thing I thought of was my dad thinking his computer would explode if he stopped using IE.
- marinist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Agreed. At best, it's sparse and interesting, but ultimately it says nothing about the FF browser. I can only hope they got that one produced for cheap.
- linkinpark342, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3What a waste of an IBM keyboard... the original ones are rare now-a-days. I miss them and their *clack* (though i heard the Das emulates it)
- geekitechture, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Man, I would have given you mine if I'd known. Just got rid of it last summer...gave it to Goodwill if I remember correctly. You could hear that clacking all over the house, but other than that it was perhaps the best keyboard ever. Using a Logitech Media Center keyboard now, which is almost as clacky but has all the one-touch keys.
- hiPpymIck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1......The Gibson site.........
http://www.grc.com/freeware/clickey.htm - linkinpark342, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1don't get me wrong, a firefox commercial is a good cause but i mean... IBM keyboard....
- kg4gyt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Proud to be typing this on one of the older ones that seems to drive sleeping roommates crazy. I wouldn't give it up for the world.
- Nysul, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Anyone know the status of firefox and protected mode for windows vista? I'd like to be running FF, but I prefer to keep the browser in a sandbox.
- jakepoz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0You can run it for sure in low privileges mode, no need to run as admin. It doesn't have anything like the IE sandbox mode, though I haven't really found anything like that necessary.
- iofthestorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1you can use a vmware browser appliance or something I believe. Don't know anything about it besides that it exists and it's a virtual Ubuntu with Firefox. Hopefully has the latest version, not sure how/whether it stores profile information. As long as you're safe about where you browse it's not necessary imho, I downloaded it but then realized I don't have any malware anyway so no real point to it.
- mancat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Every time I see some other YouTube bit on a "great commercial for Firefox," it always boils down to the same thing: none of us will ever see this commercial on TV.
- greevar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3It's the exploding battery!!!!!!!
- anglachel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13flaming computers? and it wasn't a dell laptop?
- cassie47, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1well they could put more emphasis in the word "commercial" it almost put me to sleep.
- anglachel, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3this will get dug down, but...
opera. even for all it's bloated unnecessary add ons, it loads as fast as firefox used to (back before it was called firefox, when it ACTUALLY competed with IE for load time) even though it has all kinds of crap I don't want to ever use (irc client, rss reader, bit torrent client ect.)
when they can remove that junk opera will completely get my vote for web browser.- NerveBand, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11What the hell are you talking about? With that "junk", the speed is faster than firefox without extensions. It has been proven numerous amounts of times. Firefox has tons of issues and I wish people would recognize them. Its not god, and its not perfect.

Watch me get dugg down at the speed of lightening. - Cymrubeats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Taking into account most of the sites i 'try' to visit from here are half (or completely) dead by the time i get to them, speed is not something i concern myself with so much now. :P Opera is a great browser, not the one for me, but it's a genuine part of the choices we have now, not just used cos it's 'better than I.E'.
- Aninhumer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You know, that "gripes" page is getting rather sparse...
- NerveBand, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11What the hell are you talking about? With that "junk", the speed is faster than firefox without extensions. It has been proven numerous amounts of times. Firefox has tons of issues and I wish people would recognize them. Its not god, and its not perfect.
- joshua5, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5That was stupid. Theres a million and one quirky things that could be done for a Firefox commercial. That was the best they could think of? Lame.
- linuxeventually, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I like the Firefox eskimo commerical better...
- largobargo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16So firefox pollutes the environment? Absolutely disgusting to see such harm being done to the environment for the sake of a poor commercial.
- mhenecke, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1come on get a life. go back to hugging your tree and stop surfing the net.
- slugicide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ha ha, that was my first reaction. I just shuddered when I saw all that black smoke. That's not comfy wood smoke, there.
- AdamTReineke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1For the curious... this hit the front page in 1hr, 40 mins.
- Sil369, on 10/12/2007, -11/+4Opera > All
*shakes finger at those about to dug me down*- devoinregress, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Whatever man, I use Opera on my Mac but it is not signifigantly better than FireFox or Webkit. Webkit has better CSS rendering than anything else out there in my opinion.
- HeaveN, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Absolutely Horrible.
- 47knight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Awesome commercials, but I've never seen them on TV, what channel do they usually play on?
- bdub92, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This one is much better: http://www.firefoxflicks.com/flick/index.php?sort=pop&id=20674&c=false
- neofactor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Looks like a crappy video... "Getting burned by your web browser?" WTF is that?
The retarded browser one is THE BEST: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9BON5nd8Fg - Sil369, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Feels a lot like those Vote For Governor So-And-So type ads ..... it's bare and doesn't give much info.... it only screams VOTE ME. Other guy: bad. Me: good. Those Pc vs Mac guy ads for example, have depth and humour. Here, it's bland. At least that's my critique.
- VulcanMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For all the Firefox creative work I've seen, this is certainly not among the best. Dugg down.
- RidgeWalker76, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.firefoxflicks.com/flick/index.php?sort=pop&id=19542&c=false
By popular vote, as far as the thread has gone, the Wheee! ad seems to be the best one. I'd be happy if I could take the user authored extensions from Firefox and use them on Safari. No such luck though. - mochzr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3This commercial made me think WORSE of Firefox...
- dusco, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2now thier next mission is to learn how to make a browser.
- right75, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3This commercial is lame. I've definitely seen better.
- Bob042, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I can't say I really like it. How is something named "Firefox" going to burn you LESS?
I mean, I get it, fire, burn, yay we made a connection, but would an average user think firefox is good from that? They probably still get scared by firewalls and install Norton AntiVirus instead...- hwulykthmapples, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think the "weee" ad was much better, but they'd probably get sued for that. Maybe if they explained a little instead.
Kinda like a 30 second SIMPLE ad (none of that artistic crap)
"It prevents Spyware [some sort of visual cue), Unlike Others.."
"[Visual cue] Customisable with Plugins "
"...And most of all... Its Free"
"Firefox.... Good for your computer"
OR they could just go the PBJ route and have something like..
"Its Peanut Butter Jelly Time, Peanut Butter Jelly Time "
"Peanut Butter Jelly, Peanut Butter Jelly"
"Firefox Firefox Firefox, Peanut Butter Jelly, Firefox Firefox Firefox "
Even though the first one would be more logical , I think that the second would get through to more people, "Click the big E" people.
- hwulykthmapples, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think the "weee" ad was much better, but they'd probably get sued for that. Maybe if they explained a little instead.
- EzarKun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I tought it was pretty lame
A good commercial is something like that Nokia Titanium something ad a couple of years ago.
Gears of War Mad world ad, stuff like that
This was lame - MacGyver2210, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dug for burning computer visuals.....
Still pretty feeble for what they could've done. Any lower budget and it would just be notecards saying "Computer sitting in a lot", "Computer on FIRE in a lot"....
And I'm really and truly curious - why am I getting 'burned' by my browsers, for example, Internet Explorer? I never have any problems with it... - V1ncent, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Great. Another commercial pandering to the arsonist lobby.
The net! The net! The net is on fire! We don't need no steenkin' net let the mother bleeper burn. Burn mother bleeper. Burn! - bonedog73, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4lamest commercial ever...
- Zerocool.956, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I have been a member of digg for awhile and i usually dont comment on very many post but in my opinion this was crap, it looked as though it was done by kids. The "This is hot" video was very well done (http://www.firefoxflicks.com/flick/?sort=pop&id=20674)
it matched the quality of a professional commercial. If was watching TV and this commercial came on i would definately have to check out what they were talking about. It gets straight to the point, and i like that.
+ it doesnt look like crap.- Zerocool.956, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3http://www.firefoxflicks.com/flick/index.php?sort=pop&id=20674&c=false my bad
- CherryTzors, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Crap! I dugg you down without realizing what you were talking about... damn late nites!
Digg up his comment fellow diggers... wait... I read somewhere that "digger" is a racial term... Diggpeople!
- StanleyKoolPrik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2They forget to mention the most important thing -- that it's FREE! Hello?
Yes, free is probably the most powerful word in the English language and I dont see it once.
This is marketing 101 kids. - mediamanbkk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Did anyone else find the music awful?
- keeganzero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I don't like commercials that don't make any sense until the last :02 seconds
- CherryTzors, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"So what? Firefox is going to burn up my computer when I want to browse the web? No way I'm downloading that application."
That's what my grandpappy would probably say if he saw this commercial. - novaworks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What a steaming pile of half decent commercial.
Kind of looks like it was made by a high school film class. - viewtiful4ever, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Opera FTW.
- Fipe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The fire image is bad, bad, bad. If an image appears in your product's name, rule one of advertising is not to present the image negatively. This ad: your computer's on fire. You're being 'burned'. And then suddenly we *like* a product called Firefox? That's a terrible mixed message.
Incidentally, I'm so glad the 'Wheee!' ad didn't make it to air. It was both moronic and nonsensical, and moreover wouldn't mean anything to the Joe Average target of the commercial.- JeremyTTU, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I for one LOVE the Weee commercial. It might not mean the same thing to everybody and some might not even get it at all. Some will immediately recognize the icons and know whats it's talking about. Others will not get any of the icons except the IE icon, but that might be enough to gain their interest.
If you think about all the other really "great" commercials... sometimes they have absolutely NOTHING to do with the product, its just a way to get the word about something "new" out. Remember Apple's remake of the "1984" commercial? Didn't have anything to do with computers, all it had was the Apple logo at the end of it.
The only real way to tell if your commercial worked is if your sales go up or your market presence increased. I bet if they aired this ad just ONCE, like during the Superbowl this year, it would be the #1 talked about thing the next day.
- JeremyTTU, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I for one LOVE the Weee commercial. It might not mean the same thing to everybody and some might not even get it at all. - silenthunder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1slick?
Your comment reminds me of a saying 'A face only a mother could love' or 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder'
in short "bias" - KimmoA, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1These retarded ads make me hate Firefox even more.
Get a real browser instead: http://www.opera.com/- HideoKojima, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1You couldn't be more right, only idiots enjoy firecrap and those infamous memory leaks.
- audioslavery, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It was probably a Sorny...
- alrahman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Im sorry but that video is lame. This is better: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/flicks/daredevil.html
- DenDen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1WWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!
The actual winner sucked. (DareDevil) The other commercials in the contest were much better. - ri0t, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4To me the commercial is kinda contradictory: First "burning" is established as something negative and then the Firefox logo appears and it says "Ignite the web". It uses the same metaphor *fire* in two different meanings. It doesn't really work out. I bet the average guy would be pretty confused by this ad.
- johnnyBlazed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i love firefox, but this looked like a innsurance commercial. or a fire department instruction tape..
- braydonf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So if you use FIREfox your computer will turn into FIRE? Or wait, it's the other way around. Doh!
