Theme: myFirefox - wolferz, on 11/09/2007, -3/+55 tabs open under vista 64bit and only 75 megs of memory allocated to firefox, still managing to use 5-10% cpu while idle though... perhaps a bug?
Honestly the only dramatic difference I see between firefox 2 and firefox 3 so far is that my plug ins don't work, but that's not a firefox issue. The memory usage is a lot lower and the browser does seem a bit quicker but other than that its more like firefox 2.5.0.0 rather than firefox 3. Firefox 2.5.0.1 including the improvement to speed and memory usage.- Giga, on 11/09/2007, -0/+5Perhaps the CPU load is flash animations or something? Also, I saw no reason to label the current Firefox 2.0, it didn't bring much to the table except for a new flashy version number around the time IE7 was coming out.
- XXXXXXXXXXXXXX, on 11/09/2007, -1/+1Obviously you don't know how developers version their software.

- oavina, on 11/09/2007, -4/+3Yup, I would say the pages you're seeing have some kind of problem. I usually have 4-5 tabs with relatively heavy sites and the memory consumption for FF is no bigger than 50 MB.
- Protoss, on 11/09/2007, -0/+9Firefox 3 seems to be much more aimed at cross-platform performance. I couldn't stand 2.0 on OSX, it would stall when trying to view comments on Digg, sometimes even while checking Gmail, but 3 hasn't frozen yet. They are also working on Cocoa Widgets, so it will look much nicer.
- grumpyrain, on 11/10/2007, -0/+7Trust me, Firefox crapping out on digg comments is not an OS X specific issue.

- arjie, on 11/09/2007, -1/+2I have the same amount, but they're just single pages, meaning I didn't get there by following links. Maybe it's the 'undo close tab' feature. I don't know. Now, with three tabs it's at 88MB and that's with the Flash plugin running. It's gone up to 300MB before though, when I have like lots of tabs open.
- PueSi, on 11/10/2007, -0/+21All i want is it to stop freezing when loading the Digg comments page (with the tree expanded) , iexplorer doesn't do that nor does opera so there must be something wrong with firefox
- iamaelephant, on 11/09/2007, -0/+9Yeah I get this problem too, it's infuriating. I seem to get pauses on many site that use javascript. My PC is pretty decent (Athlon64 3000+, 2gb memory) so I don't know if there's something wrong with my install or what.

- spectre_25gt, on 11/09/2007, -2/+17CSS3 is in working draft status right now. You're not going to see browsers have full CSS3 support until it actually exists as a standard. The best thing to hope for right now is that they implement some of the modules that are mostly complete. More selectors FTW!
- HigherLogic, on 11/09/2007, -0/+7Can't forget HTML5 support. Will the latest release have this? It's been nice working with HTML5 in Opera for a while now.

- forcedfx, on 11/09/2007, -1/+2I love my FF 2 Not sure if I'm going to move to 3.0. I'm a bit disappointed about the password manager prompt being changed. It was so much easier to just hit the corresponding key.
- surfing, on 11/09/2007, -0/+2I think they still need to add "Do not ask me again" option. I know you can go into Tools > Options... to turn this off, but don't want to have to take that extra step.
- courtarro, on 11/09/2007, -0/+3It looks like this new method has the benefit of asking you /after/ you're able to see whether the password worked. How often have you forgotten your password to a site, only to have Firefox ask you whether you want to remember your guess?
"I'm guessing my password on this site is 'booger' ... no, Firefox, I don't want you to remember it in case it's wrong. Ah, it is the right password, but now I can't tell you to remember it for me because you already asked. Bummer" - Kitsun, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1For those who use more than one password it is very useful, since its annoying having Firefox remember an incorrect password.
- kris33, on 11/09/2007, -2/+5I've used the alpha in two weeks and it is much better than version 2.0. It is actually much faster and more stable, even at late alpha stage(the beta is not out yet actually). The new functionality is very useful and it is possible to run almost every 2.0-extension without any problems.
- gutterclown, on 11/09/2007, -17/+10So, is it as useful as Opera yet?
- fugazied, on 11/09/2007, -3/+13Its always been more 'useful', it just hasn't been as fast, since firefox version 1.0.
What makes firefox great is its plugins for me, all those web dev plugs are so handy. If you just want to browse (and not have crashes, memory issues), then safari/opera is a much stabler, faster option. - ubergeek09, on 11/09/2007, -5/+4Like fugazied said it's always been more useful, and on that note quit being a fanboy.

Stop. This is how unnecessary browser flamewars get started. - mrFREEZE, on 11/09/2007, -1/+2Why is Firefox so popular? Because it's not CLOSED SOURCE like Opera is. The extension/plugin community is massive, and you can find plugins that'll let you do whatever you damn well please. Can't find the plugin you're looking for? You can create your own and have plenty of support from the ff community.
Firefox lets you have much more control and allows you to let you do whatever the hell you want, instead of what some Opera programmer *decides* you can do.

- psylence, on 11/09/2007, -0/+2That would be what the 'a7' indicates.
- DOGPARTY, on 11/12/2007, -1/+1lets be honest, 2 was hardly worth the whole digit increase.
It was simply a bit of marketing because ie7 was out
- trollick, on 11/09/2007, -5/+8Wow, star is now used for bookmarks. I'm sure this feature became possible only because of some major breakthrough in computer sciences. Take that Microsoft!
- Kitsun, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1Ive been running the Alpha/Beta (w/e) and the star is more useful than it sounds.
- DOGPARTY, on 11/12/2007, -1/+1ie uses a star too
- majortom1981, on 11/09/2007, -10/+4Why are they copying internet explorer 7? Did they really have to use the same star icon for firefox3 as ie7 uses?
- flickerbrain, on 11/09/2007, -1/+10I think the star icon for bookmarking is a matter of accessibility. If an IE user opens Firefox, they'll see the star and know what it's supposed to do. Is it really any different from both browsers using a house icon for the homepage shortcut???
- tommasz, on 11/09/2007, -3/+6Please, please, please make it use less RAM and CPU! As useful as the extensions are, I can't stand how much of a resource hog Firefox has become. Quitting and restarting periodically is not a viable long-term strategy. Not for me and not for Firefox.
- rootnik, on 11/09/2007, -2/+2I hope the developers read this, because it would be horrible if they misunderstood every complaint about ram usage and actually develops FF3 to use more system resources than before.
- frenchy64, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1They've head about it before and they'll hear about it again.
- tehbored, on 11/09/2007, -4/+1That's what she said.
- rootnik, on 11/09/2007, -2/+2I hope the developers read this, because it would be horrible if they misunderstood every complaint about ram usage and actually develops FF3 to use more system resources than before.
- tomis, on 11/09/2007, -2/+2Judging by the nightlies, 3.0 isn't that big a deal on the Mac, yet. If they ever start using native widgets, then I'll be interested.
- Ancestor, on 11/09/2007, -0/+3I don't know where you got these nightlies from but Fx3 does have native widgets on Mac.
- koick, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1I believe Ancestor is right, and you can always go here: http://www.furbism.com/firefoxmac/
- keyme, on 11/09/2007, -3/+8What about those memory leaks?
- bigteebo, on 11/09/2007, -8/+2I hope myspace is on the QA stress test list for this version. It seems to fail(or take literally forever) to load up a page with lots of external images(such as myspace).
- dagamer34, on 11/09/2007, -0/+9that's due to bad web design.
- matthewf01, on 11/09/2007, -0/+11they were trying to do you a favor.
- maiku00, on 11/09/2007, -3/+6just fix the memory issues and that will be good enough for me
- TheNik, on 11/09/2007, -8/+1Oh shi... is dat sum pseudo-Cocoa?
- micklerlop, on 11/09/2007, -3/+10i dont care about the new features. I want better PERFORMANCE ... especially on OS X aiiiiiiiiiight!
- koick, on 11/09/2007, -1/+2Oh, it does. It's way more responsive and better on the RAM. Try it out yourself! http://www.furbism.com/firefoxmac/ or
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nig ... - DOGPARTY, on 11/12/2007, -0/+1why bother?
Safari kicks the ***** out of it in all departments

- mrogi, on 11/09/2007, -7/+1This has got to be a joke. The big innovation in Firefox 3.0 is to make it look exactly like Internet Explorer 7?

Bookmarks
* Taking a cue from Gmail, you can “star” pages like you do an email in Gmail to make it stand out. These stars are like bookmarks but allow for some interesting interplay in the next feature.
* It also appears you can tag bookmarks to group them easier.
* Places: As new tab in your bookmarks is called Places. From Places you can see items you’ve starred recently, most visited starred places, tagged items. What is cool, from these smaller lists you can open all in tabs. Handy.
Pretty Stuff
* Aqua buttons: Mac’ing it up a bit, the new Firefox will allow eye-candy buttons allowing those with Mac envy some relief
* Interface is said to be new, but looks familiar enough
* Looks like Mozilla has spent time making skins that match native OS. Whatever.
Gears
* Improved add-on menus
* enhanced security
* new notifications- markstory, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1404'ed!!
- dning88, on 11/09/2007, -4/+1Anyone know if there are any updates to the RSS feed management? I'm aways interested in that as I have a blog and want to grow the readership :)
- diggmodsareghey, on 11/10/2007, -3/+0i want to know when the hell are they gonna implement the ability to see the size of the file your gonna download and fix the damn gif speeds
- quickslvr1287, on 11/09/2007, -0/+5It's MUCH faster and uses less memory. I'd still be using it now but there are still a few bugs and not all of my addons would play nice. I'm looking forward to the final release.
- dustinmacdonald, on 11/09/2007, -3/+4Those are screenshots on Leopard? I thought their goal was to make Firefox feel less like a cross platform app on OS X. They certainly failed at that.
- zongamin, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1The OS X theme isn't finished yet. This isn't even the beta.
- DOGPARTY, on 11/12/2007, -0/+1why show it then
- dh8r, on 11/10/2007, -2/+8PLEASE!!!! Better performance on OS X
- grimward, on 11/09/2007, -2/+1I remember reading about the devs implementing harder extension version checking to avoid imcompatible extensions from even being installed in the first place, sort of like FF2 has, but even more harder. Way to go.. ***** up the thing that's the firefoxes main advantage, the extensions!
And no, it doesn't seem like the nightly tester tools will enable installing either. whoop whoop! - mightycbu, on 11/09/2007, -0/+3"star is the new bookmark"
it uses the same star as the google-toolbar, does that integrate? i love bookmarks in google-toolbar, instantly same bookmarks on every computer! - anthonylawrence, on 11/09/2007, -2/+5CPU and RAM usage is important.... directly equates to performance.... so thats the highest priority thing for me.=)
- stockjones, on 11/09/2007, -1/+1Me too.
- MrSunshine, on 11/09/2007, -1/+1Me tree.
- stockjones, on 11/09/2007, -1/+1Me too.
- Corrosionx, on 11/09/2007, -4/+3If Firefox can just stop using 300 mb ram and 75% cpu, maybe I won't need to buy a new computer so soon
- avihappy, on 11/09/2007, -0/+5Keychain support? Service Menu support? Dictionary tooltip? Maclike fonts? Does it feel like a proper Mac app at all?
- ManufactrsDfect, on 11/09/2007, -3/+1ehh ...
- korupture, on 11/09/2007, -6/+3damn. i was digg number 1336.
- kgdoom, on 11/09/2007, -8/+4Does this version blend?
- deose, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1First look? I think not. seeing as the beta has been out for numerous months now. In fact, I've been running it this entire time.
