- DjArcadian, on 06/12/2008, -0/+2I'm sure someone will create an add-on that will allow Firefox to stab you.
- twiztidsinz, on 06/12/2008, -1/+27lol press the Try Again button on the About:Robots page :-P

- akuzemchak, on 06/12/2008, -3/+139As a long-time Safari user, I started messing with the Firefox 3 RCs, and have been thoroughly impressed with all the improvements over version 2... especially on the Mac side. Looking forward to the 17th... and to switching my main browser officially!
- Mootabolife, on 06/12/2008, -2/+27I'm a longtime Opera user because I liked how fast it was and how all of the features came built in without extensions. Recently, however, I thought my computer was having issues with Windows. As it turned out, Opera was seizing the entire computer and hard locking it. I tried switching over to Firefox about a week ago and the problems disappeared. I doubt I'll be going back to Opera anytime soon. Goodbye old friend, you were the fastest once... but no longer.
- ModernChem, on 06/12/2008, -1/+21all hail firefox
- celkin, on 06/12/2008, -0/+2Obama Firefox '08!
- ralphthemagi, on 06/12/2008, -11/+1You can always try Camino on the Mac side. It's like the OS X proper version of Firefox, complete with keychain, address book, and bonjour integration. It also has things like ad and Flash blocking built in.
- hpfreak26, on 06/12/2008, -0/+10I'm an alcoholic and... oh wait. Is this not the confession thread?
- ch33sehead, on 06/12/2008, -7/+5In other news, Opera's first Release Candidate just came out yesterday:
http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/2008/06/10/op ...
Supposedly they fixed a lot of bugs, but if you're ultra paranoid, you might want to wait til the next RC.
- ModernChem, on 06/12/2008, -1/+21all hail firefox
- silfiriel, on 06/12/2008, -5/+4I hope you guys didn't say this just to get dugg
- akuzemchak, on 06/12/2008, -1/+4Yeah, because I live my entire life just to get a few thumbs up on digg... if I had said something just to get dugg, I would have said I was a long-time IE user.
- KrayzieKyd, on 06/12/2008, -4/+1Camino has been shown to work better on Macs than Firefox.
- HybridZero, on 06/12/2008, -1/+18Can't wait for this release. I've been using the betas / release candidates for some time now and I'll be extremely happy to get my hands on the final!
- BlueSkyfish, on 06/12/2008, -5/+191If you haven't already pledged, do it now
http://www.spreadfirefox.com/en-US/worldrecord/
As of this post, there are only 1,064,443 people confirmed.- deltron, on 06/12/2008, -0/+19I know I'll be reading Guiness Book of World Records in a few years and find that record (if we make it), and be happy to be involved in a Guinness record, it's been a goal of lifez0r.
- blackrage, on 06/12/2008, -8/+6...........only 34 pledges GET OFF YOUR ASS SOLOMON ISLANDS!!! You make me wanna wretch.
- Filipp0, on 06/12/2008, -0/+15It's amazing that Brazil and Poland pretty much as #2 in number of pledgers. In your face first world countries!! IN YO FACE!! (just kidding, I love you all)
- WhereAmI, on 06/12/2008, -1/+5So we won't be setting a record for Firefox 4?
- rollerboy, on 06/12/2008, -7/+2It's ok to download it multiples times right? that was my plan for that whole day.
- Zaneris, on 06/12/2008, -0/+14They're using cookies to try and not allow that to affect their results, so... if you're going to do it ;) wipe your cookies each time.
- MacBandit, on 06/12/2008, -1/+9I'll just download it on several different computers.
- Thorlord, on 06/12/2008, -0/+16absolutely not.
i don't want to have it succeed and then have some prick from Microsoft claiming that it was miscounted due to multiple downloads from the same person. (they prob will anyway, but damn i don't want them to be right!)
so instead, just go to everyone you knows computer and download it and install it on that. THAT will be much more proactive than just "downloading twice" - WhereAmI, on 06/12/2008, -2/+2I have multiple computers so my plan was to download it multiple times on each computer...
- beingdevious, on 06/12/2008, -0/+11please dont ruin it for the rest of us. if the GWR people find out there was any attempt at cheating, its likely to be voided.
download once, tell a thousand times.- equinoxChild, on 06/12/2008, -0/+10its not necessarily for ruining the record...I'm going to have to download it, at minimum, twice, once for my windows desktop, once for my linux laptop.
- reaper527, on 06/12/2008, -0/+1equinox is right. i will be downloading it on my work computer, on my personal desktop, and on my laptop.
- Zaneris, on 06/12/2008, -0/+14They're using cookies to try and not allow that to affect their results, so... if you're going to do it ;) wipe your cookies each time.
- ModernChem, on 06/12/2008, -6/+29I pledge allegiance, to firefox, one browser made by god, unmatched, with tabs and justice for all
- Cyphase, on 06/12/2008, -3/+17Actually..
I pledge allegiance, to Firefox, the best browser ever made, and to the open web for which it stands, one browser, underused, lightning quick, with tabs and add-ons for all.
That said, for various different reasons I won't go into here (nothing really to do with the "under god" controversy), I don't say the pledge anymore. And neither should you ;).- EvilCan, on 06/12/2008, -3/+6You tell us we shouldn't say the pledge and then you don't tell us why?
- Cyphase, on 06/12/2008, -3/+4Well, I didn't want to get into politics right then, and I was joking when I said "neither should you" while giving no reasons why you shouldn't. Here's a quick run down of the pledge..
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, .."
How can you pledge allegiance to a flag? And if you could, no I don't.
".. and to the Republic for which it stands, .."
I most certainly do not pledge my allegiance to this tyrannical government we have today, nor would I really pledge my allegiance to any government.
".. one Nation under God, .."
Separation of church and state?
".. indivisible, .."
I'm all in favor of secession.
".. with liberty and justice for all."
Yea, right. Not anymore.
Than there's the history of the pledge, like the fact that it was written by a socialist. You can do your own research into that if you're still curious. - pe5t1lence, on 06/12/2008, -0/+1I disagree with the Republic part. Though you take it to mean the government, I take it to mean the governed body.
- Cyphase, on 06/13/2008, -0/+1A republic is a form of government; therefore, yes, I take it to mean the government. And if it did mean "the governed body", I'm not going to pledge allegiance to 300 million strangers. Or, if you're considering "the governed body" to be this land mass people call the United States, I don't pledge my allegiance to a huge chunk of land of which pieces are owned by millions of strangers.
- Cyphase, on 06/12/2008, -3/+17Actually..
- Yusayoh, on 06/12/2008, -0/+10ONLY?! That's an understatement. That is a lot of people ready to download a web browser the day it comes out.
- xsquirrel378x, on 06/12/2008, -0/+9Poland has the second most pledges?
- Niubai, on 06/12/2008, -0/+3Brazil is doing pretty well too
- Jumba990, on 06/12/2008, -2/+3My country ain't even on the list =/
- eliazu, on 06/12/2008, -2/+2where do you live, Jumba?
- donkeySays, on 06/12/2008, -1/+2Is the number enough to create the record? If yes, I am happy.
- chrisportela, on 06/12/2008, -0/+3I want the record. Not necessarily because i HATE IE but because people won't stand against MS trying to just lay back with no improvements to their browser.
- deltron, on 06/12/2008, -0/+19I know I'll be reading Guiness Book of World Records in a few years and find that record (if we make it), and be happy to be involved in a Guinness record, it's been a goal of lifez0r.
- ElBeh, on 06/12/2008, -2/+67Nice to see there's a release date set in stone now. Let's break that record!
- isaactwito, on 06/12/2008, -2/+1They were probably just waiting to get the pledge number up.
- aerofan897, on 06/12/2008, -0/+15Mozilla is actually *setting* the record, it has never been done before.
- chrisportela, on 06/12/2008, -0/+1none in my area... hech in my state...
- daFilms, on 06/12/2008, -2/+31Now there's no excuse for not partaking in the celebration, make your region proud -- http://mozillaparty.com/events/map/
- pHr34kY, on 06/12/2008, -0/+12Due to increasing interest rates and petrol prices, Australia will not be hosting a party.
- kymoie, on 06/12/2008, -0/+2Yeah why hasn't anyone in Australia put their hand up for a party yet? Really, of the nearly 18,000 who have pledged noone wants to party?
- gibler, on 06/12/2008, -0/+3Crikey but even us kiwis have one scheduled...
- ModernChem, on 06/12/2008, -1/+6due to a major pain in the ass and technical difficulties, I will not be creating a party
- pagno, on 06/12/2008, -0/+3The only party in Texas is at College Station. Go figure.
- WhereAmI, on 06/12/2008, -0/+2There wasn't a party in Chicago earlier but now there is. But ***** that. Anyone from Milwaukee want to meet at MSOE CC?
- Torpov, on 06/12/2008, -0/+2Jeez, no one in New York City at all? ***** going to Stony Brook.
- YAOMTC, on 06/12/2008, -0/+1Hey, guys. Looks like Iran has just as many Firefox parties going on as the US does. Like 6 of 'em are right there in Tehran.
- pHr34kY, on 06/12/2008, -0/+12Due to increasing interest rates and petrol prices, Australia will not be hosting a party.
- demonstealer, on 06/12/2008, -3/+8Yay
- Mariasha, on 06/12/2008, -22/+25Am I the only one who is using FF3 and find it crashing all the time?
If any of you fellow diggers are experiencing this, would you kindly chime in and let me know if you managed to solve the problem.
I still love FF, I just wish it wouldn't crash all the time- ElBeh, on 06/12/2008, -3/+12Not really. Maybe you have a few hundred too many tabs open or have a broken addon.
- Mard, on 06/12/2008, -2/+10I'm not sure why you're having that problem. I've used Firefox for years, and never experienced it myself. I am currently using FF3 RC2 on Mac OS X, and it's as solid as a rock (as you'd expect from any FF release). It used to be that when Firefox 1 or 2 started crashing, it meant your user profile had somehow become corrupt (usually attributed to add-ons). The workaround would be creating a new profile, and copying your bookmarks.html over. I believe my sister's computer had this problem once, and I fixed it by creating a new profile for her. It's a tad complicated, but here is the walkthrough for managing profiles:
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+profi ... - expert01, on 06/12/2008, -0/+15I had tons of crashing with FF3, Ubuntu, and flash. I solved it by destroying all my flash plugins, completely removing flash, removing all video codecs in Firefox,
sudo apt-get purge flashplugin-nonfree gnash gnash-common mozilla-plugin-gnash swfdec-mozilla
sudo apt-get remove kaffeine-mozilla mozilla-mplayer mozilla-plugin-vlc totem-mozilla && sudo apt-get install gecko-mediaplayer gnome-mplayer
cd ~/.mozilla
rm flashplayer.xpt libflashplayer.so
wget -O - http://download.macromedia.com/pub/labs/flashplaye ... | tar xz -C ~
mkdir ~/.mozilla/plugins/
cp ~/install_flash_player_10_linux/libflashplayer.so ~/.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so
rm -r ~/install_flash_player_10_linux
rm ./flashplayer10_install_linux_051508.tar.gz
But beware... Flash 10 is not perfect - I can't play most games because they won't recognize keyboard input (although some do), but it doesn't crash. And I imagine when it goes final those broken programs will get fixed pretty fast.- SAOSiN, on 06/12/2008, -2/+3Digg tech support?
- nixfu, on 06/12/2008, -0/+2DITTO...
Flash10 Crashed my FF3 ALL THE TIME... I went back to Flash9 and its much more stable.
- twiztidsinz, on 06/12/2008, -0/+4I get the rare crash on close, but I think that's to do with an add-on.
- rfcompte, on 06/12/2008, -16/+1Are you still using Windows? That might be it... ;-)
- Audacitor, on 06/12/2008, -0/+7Have you tried using Firefox in safemode?
- colto, on 06/12/2008, -1/+2Not sure. I too get random crashing every few hours with RC2.
- elscorcho717, on 06/12/2008, -3/+7Why are people digging him down? He was just asking a question. Don't use the thumbs down undemocratically
- tk0680, on 06/12/2008, -2/+10Can't believe this is being buried. Dare to do anything besides lavish praise on something Digg likes and you get buried. Nice.
- eliazu, on 06/12/2008, -0/+2remove the silverlight plugin. it worked for me.
- libertao, on 06/12/2008, -1/+1Do you use any google extensions like google toolbar? That one made mine crash everytime.
- Pixelpaws, on 06/12/2008, -0/+1As of right now, there's no version of Google toolbar for RC2. I'm hoping they have one available shortly after 3.0 is finalized; I miss having it.
- mathcreative, on 06/12/2008, -0/+1Yeah if you have a mac, try disabling flash. Flash on mac run really slow. That's usually the reason why my firefox crashes
- wgchinn, on 06/12/2008, -0/+0I use the nightly builds and average 2 crashes a week under heavy usage. Most of these crashes deal with lack of memory or forcing add-ons to work. Its faster, easier to work with, but still has IE7/8 incompatibilities due to MS.
- Mariasha, on 06/12/2008, -0/+3Thanks to all who responded. I deleted my profile and created a new one.
Firefox 3 is now working fine for me.
Thanks fellow diggers!
- JoemcC00L, on 06/12/2008, -3/+11Will an official linux x86_64 build be available/supported? I've been using the nightly builds for a while, but official builds of the betas/RC's are nowhere to be found.
- trogdoor, on 06/12/2008, -0/+7They will not have an official x86_64 for FF3 but your distro's package manager certainly will so it doesn't really matter for Linux :)
- WhereAmI, on 06/12/2008, -2/+2You could always build it yourself if you want a 64 bit version so bad. That way its secure because you're not downloading it from some place where some guy built it with his own add ons or some *****.
- Kirizan, on 06/12/2008, -0/+2Ok, I'm game. Any tips on how to build myselft a 64-bit version?
- Bluezdood, on 06/12/2008, -0/+1What, you mean you use Linux but don't code and compile everything yourself? Balderdash!
- Kirizan, on 06/12/2008, -0/+2Ok, I'm game. Any tips on how to build myselft a 64-bit version?
- completerobot, on 06/12/2008, -1/+37Between that and the Spore Creature Creator, I really don't see myself leaving my computer next Tuesday.
- calebh, on 06/12/2008, -0/+1I was just thinking the same thought.
Dugg.
- calebh, on 06/12/2008, -0/+1I was just thinking the same thought.
- wiachy, on 06/12/2008, -8/+49my birthday! w00t
- wreckosaurus, on 06/12/2008, -4/+24My birthday is a couple days before, but I'm more excited about firefox. internetz>real life
- celkin, on 06/12/2008, -0/+1My birthday is three days before--the insignificant, uninteresting 1-9.
- KaiSe7eN, on 06/12/2008, -1/+6My birthday too!! The big 2-0!!
- Audacitor, on 06/12/2008, -1/+15And then you'll realize... 1998 was ten whole ***** years ago...
- SAOSiN, on 06/12/2008, -2/+3I just turned 20 on the 9th, man...1998 was ten years ago...:(
- wigren, on 06/12/2008, -2/+1I turned 22 one the 9th. Happy belated B-Day!
- Audacitor, on 06/12/2008, -1/+15And then you'll realize... 1998 was ten whole ***** years ago...
- MrWii, on 06/12/2008, -3/+3My birthday, too! 3-0!
- cmsjustin, on 06/12/2008, -3/+4My birthday is the 14th
- musicphreke, on 06/12/2008, -2/+2I'll call it a belated birthday present since mine is the 16th.
Monday sure is a crappy day to have a birthday though.- Javlington, on 06/12/2008, -1/+3You should give eachother presents
- porkdanish, on 06/12/2008, -1/+5Me too! the big 1-0!
- wreckosaurus, on 06/12/2008, -4/+24My birthday is a couple days before, but I'm more excited about firefox. internetz>real life
- wallryan, on 06/12/2008, -2/+5sweet...mark the date to download it and break the record!!
- Yuska, on 06/12/2008, -0/+11I've been using the beta for a while, I love it. It seems to be a lot faster than FF2, and lightyears ahead of IE..
- wwilton, on 06/12/2008, -0/+6It's coming earlier than I expected. Let's make it the most downloaded software in 24hs!
- thenumber8, on 06/12/2008, -1/+8my life for auir . . . i mean . . . mozilla
- robocop1, on 06/12/2008, -1/+1my life for hire!

- marksands07, on 06/12/2008, -0/+20I just got the popup that RC3 is out, now just another 5 days.. =]
- Eminemdrdre00, on 06/12/2008, -12/+2I just wish there was an option to get the "awesome bar" to function like it did in FF2. I dont find it to be so "awesome"
- Jayso89, on 06/12/2008, -0/+5No dissin the awesome bar...
- wukillabee, on 06/12/2008, -32/+3their browser still doesnt have a download size preview...
FAiL!
***** THING SUCKS!
ILL CODE IT AND WELL DO IT LIVE!- Audacitor, on 06/12/2008, -2/+4You know, if you do write an extension that does that, let me know.
- aircool, on 06/12/2008, -6/+1Good stuff, awful browser.
- chapium, on 06/12/2008, -14/+7Whats the deal with the robot?
- rleeden, on 06/12/2008, -0/+5See 'about:robots' for the answer.
- NOFXY, on 06/12/2008, -1/+4that just raises more questions o.O
- rleeden, on 06/12/2008, -0/+5See 'about:robots' for the answer.
- abrasion, on 06/12/2008, -6/+14The dude who makes Chromatabs says he can't do it for FF3 - I am crushed.
Plus Google hasn't given us an update on GBS yet? :(
Chromatabs is really good too, specially how it has the same colour for the same domain each time (thanks to the favicon)- ModernChem, on 06/12/2008, -2/+7to the people who bury this comment: why? create awareness and bring chromatabs into the future!
- WhereAmI, on 06/12/2008, -0/+3Make it yourself. If I were you I'd take this guys Tab Color Extension https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/136 ... and make it so a color is assigned to a site.
- aliguana, on 06/12/2008, -0/+3that's the beauty of OSS, if an extension doesn't work (and you have the know-how) you can just re-write it yourself. As long as you contact the original author before you give it to anyone else then no problem.
- abrasion, on 06/12/2008, -1/+4Were people digging me down for that? This place is ridiculous sometimes.
- WhereAmI, on 06/12/2008, -0/+3Make it yourself. If I were you I'd take this guys Tab Color Extension https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/136 ... and make it so a color is assigned to a site.
- counterplex, on 06/12/2008, -0/+3Google Browser Sync was my main reason to stay away from FF3 as well. However, I've recently started using Mozilla Weave. It's still in beta but easily contains all the core features from GBS. The King is dead! Long live the King!
https://services.mozilla.com/- abrasion, on 06/12/2008, -1/+1I don't beleive it supports passwords and history sync.
- counterplex, on 06/12/2008, -0/+3The latest version does both those things. In fact I've found GBS to not support those two as well as Weave does.

- rollerboy, on 06/12/2008, -2/+7I thought it already came out. Ubuntu Update Manager updated(lol) it. It says version 3.0, Can somebody explain this to me?
- Boktai1000, on 06/12/2008, -0/+8Its referring to the RC, in this case Ubuntu is currently only on RC2 which is what you updated to (Yes i know RC3 is actually out but Ubuntu has to test it before its added to the repository). In the RC builds, they remove all Beta markings as an RC should be considered what to expect with the final. In the Help>About it will also make no indications of an RC/Beta build, the best way to tell would be the filename of the download.
- asadotzler, on 06/12/2008, -0/+6I believe it's actually RC1 and Ubuntu was quite behind moving from Beta 5 to the first RC. (Unless they released something new today.)
- JohnM5, on 06/12/2008, -0/+5AFAIK, RC3 is identical to RC2 on both Linux and Windows. The only change was a fix for mac
- jakethecake, on 06/12/2008, -1/+1RC2 - "11 June 7:34 am: The hardy-update repo now has an update for Firefox 3 labeled version 3.0+nobinoly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1."
Full post - http://nancib.wordpress.com/2008/06/10/firefox-3-i ...
- asadotzler, on 06/12/2008, -1/+12Ubuntu pushed RC1. All RC releases label themselves as Firefox 3 since they could have become the final release if another RC wasn't warranted. Mozilla has since released RC2 and RC3, but Ubuntu is behind and has just now got RC1 out the door. They will hopefully catch up, either by shipping RC2 (3 was only necessary on Mac) soon and then shipping final next Tuesday with Mozilla or by skipping RC2 and going right to final (though that seems dangerous since we took about 40 changes in RC2 that could impact Linux.)
There are upsides and downsides to distribution vendor lock-in and this is clearly a downside.- jackhatedance, on 06/12/2008, -1/+5can't believe Ubuntu is cheating us.

I'm running Fedora here and nothing stopped me from grabbing the RC's myself from the Mozilla site- skidzilla, on 06/12/2008, -2/+1Digging you back-up, only idiots would digg you down.
Lock-in? Hahahaha. Oh that's great. Ever heard of something called a website? Or a compiler?

- trogdoor, on 06/12/2008, -1/+4Looks like Ubuntu already has FF3 RC2 packaged as 'final' in their -proposed repository for Hardy and will probably just move it to main june 17 ( unless of course there is an RC4 )
This info from:

- mdmiamifl, on 06/12/2008, -2/+0You were probably using the prototype version that they allowed people to test.

- j1ggy, on 06/12/2008, -2/+19Finally... all the extensions will be updated for one version only. Some authors were only developing for the 3.0 beta, some for 2.x. It was beginning to turn into a big soupy mess and a little more difficult to find compatible extensions.

read the faq!
http://www.spreadfirefox.com/en-US/worldrecord/faq
Do we have to reach a specific number of downloads in order to set the record?
This is the first record attempt of its kind so there is no set number. We'd really like to outdo the number of Firefox 2 downloads on its launch day, which was 1.6 million. Let's shoot for 5 million--the sky is the limit!

- blueomni87, on 06/12/2008, -0/+1Love it; can't wait. I remember how great it was when FF2 came out. Wow! I just realized how long it's been!
- merbot, on 06/12/2008, -3/+7Might be me but after using the latest release candidate of ff3 I'm slightly turned off by it. I've had nothing but problems with it. It keeps kicking me out of my gmail, for some reason wont save any of my passwords even though I tell it too, can't seem to login to certain websites even though my login information is correct. I don't know digg me down but it was a mess for me.
- ShellShock11, on 06/12/2008, -2/+2Ya, I haven't been happy with release candidate 3...but luckily I think RC2 will be the one.
- exeprime, on 06/12/2008, -0/+5Your computers are strange. I've been using since it was alpha (Minefield) and since it entered beta it was very stable and fast. The RCs work perfectly for me. Try reinstalling windows or something :P
- libertao, on 06/12/2008, -0/+1Is it not a specific one of your add-ons like Google toolbar?

- hadak, on 06/12/2008, -0/+6Now, since Google hasn't updated Google Browser Sync (as of last week anyway) to work with FF3, I wonder when Weave will be coming out.
- iofthestorm, on 06/12/2008, -0/+7Weave alphas and betas have been out for a while, but I found that it's kind of hit and miss and I didn't really find it to be worth the hassle and extra memory footprint. But I do hope it gets better in the future, I would love having a completely unified Firefox profile across all computers I access someday.
- hadak, on 06/12/2008, -0/+1I installed the latest build, but I'm concerned that it won't be quite the same as GBS. GBS at least let me open sessions across multiple machines.

- dtfinch, on 06/12/2008, -1/+4From RC3 announcement:
"there is no change for users running previous Firefox Release Candidate versions on Windows or Linux."
Bummer. RC2 isn't stable for me, and I've been tempted to switch back to the nightly builds, which so far have been, hopefully not by chance. I don't have a lot of extensions. Just QuickJava, to disable/reenable javascript in one click, and Add & Edit Cookies.
I hate digg's auto-resizing comments box, which grows and reshrinks with every keypress after 4 lines of input. - aussieNickuss, on 06/12/2008, -2/+3Next weeks gonna be good. Flying up to Sydney for the Apple Store opening AND Firefox being released! WOW!

- isaactwito, on 06/12/2008, -6/+1Just got the beta after seeing the good responses to it on here. I like it, but it's going to be hard to transition, I really like Safari. I'm sure I'll be using the final release as a secondary browser, but I still don't find FF to be as efficient as Safari(at least on a mac).
- krisscofield, on 06/12/2008, -8/+1Did they fix the new-tab button add-on for it yet? If not I'm sticking to FF2. It's the only feature I loved about Opera.
