URL Fixer: Firefox extension automatically corrects common URL typos
efinke.com — URL Fixer is an extension for Mozilla-based Web browsers that corrects typos in URLs that you enter in the address bar. For example, if you type google.con, it will correct it to google.com -asking first, if you enable confirmation. (via DownloadSquad and LifeHacker)

http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/extensions/url_fixer/url_fixer-1.2.11-fx+fl.xpi - cfinke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11nesdude985: The newest version (1.3) is only available through my website right now, since Mozilla's approval system can take weeks due to a lack of volunteers. Also, the sources in question only link to my site (http://www.efinke.com/addons/url-fixer/), not to Mozilla Addons. Third, linking directly to an XPI on a Mozilla server is not recommended, as it bypasses Mozilla's mirror system, and would not be available in the case that that machine went down.
- SAOSiN, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Can this handle 1.21 JigaWatts???!!!
- andreas1999, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1"Can this handle 1.21 JigaWatts???!!!"
oh no, it's the new Will It Blend 2007.. zzzz - jambarama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is neat-o, but a good DNS can do the same thing, and it isn't browser dependent. I know that OpenDNS (my personal favorite) does this automatically. This way there is no software to deal with, or profiles, or whatever. But where you don't have the permissions to change your DNS this is a great option (and a lot more flexible too).

- EricJD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Wow. This is so handy.
Great extension!- ldavid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yeh very handy...never even thought about an extension like this...
Very handy indeed. - jcook793, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5It looks like you are trying to visit hotteens.cpm. Would you like help?

- sfacets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Oh at long last!!!
- deadhobo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+28Annnd... why not just use OpenDNS?
http://www.opendns.com/- cfinke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Not all users are able to change their DNS settings (e.g., certain corporate environments).
- haastyle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5i use this, and i love it
- Vironex, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2That was my first thought, but some ISPs actually have fast DNS servers, and this allows the best of both worlds. And of course some people are just noobs who are afraid of "messing with nerd settings".
- ahill7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is also useful when coupled with Portable Firefox. Whenever I use a computer at the library or computer labs, I run Firefox off my USB key and if I can get typo correction without making changes to the system to put in OpenDNS (which get wiped out due to CenturianGuard or CleanSlate or whatever solution the lab is using).
- jmeeter, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Ahh, beat me to it. I was going to suggest the same thing!
- jayyoung, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i had no idea what open dns was til your comment, thanks for the tip
- falcon1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Great site! I never knew about that, but I am using it now - very nifty :)
- DlGG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4OpenDNS is great. I'll have to try this out in addition though.
- veracon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Exactly, I'm in love with OpenDNS.
But of course I can see how some would find this useful; being bound to a specific DNS server in one way or the other.
- geekee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Changes ask.com to google.com
Of course the feature is rarely executed as no one ever makes this typo. - Egotrippin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6So no more ".cok"?
- queefer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10takes around 3 secs for me to fix a typo, and on average if i visit 15 sites a day, and mispell 4, that's12 secs a day, that's 4380 secs, or 73 minutes saved a year
- Egotrippin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8RainMan?
- esconsult1, on 10/12/2007, -16/+1Would be cool, except that the people who make URL mistakes are too stupid to know what a firefox extension is. Or even what firefox is, for that matter.
- Verdanic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Aren't you all high and mighty.
- strabes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3actually it's designed to fix typos like .cmo
- Nomad559, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1For several years, I've been using "Convert and Open" For Internet Explorer.
http://camtech2000.net/Pages/Desktop.htm- Karted, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27Who the hell still uses IE.
- Verdanic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is a great one. I hate trying to go back to change the typo in the URL before the page loads and highlights the whole URL. I'm sure most of you know what I mean, and I'm also sure there's an extension to get around that, but I'm not aware of it and this is easier.
- kirakun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Does it change "goggle.com" to "google.com"?
WARNING: goggle.com may cause serious damage to your computer. DO NOT TRY THIS UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE UP TO.- night141, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The consequences of going to goggle.com. DO NOT TRY AT HOME.

- truegodofwar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Diddn't do much to firefox 1.5 Just 2 pop ups.
- mtxe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Why do you use 1.5?

- CasualAffair, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Awesome, thanks!
Time Magazine's 2006 Man of the Year, very nice, lol. - hattable, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I couldn't get to the page.
htps://addons.mozilla.irg/firefox/2871/ :) - grendel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1great now firefox will only take up 359mb footprint.
- inkhead, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Why would anyone use this? Just set your DNS servers to use the ones from OpenDNS project. They are super-fast, and automatically learn and add in typos.
Just check out there site, it's a fantastic idea, and if you are on broadband, you'll most likely notice a huge increase in how quickly a site starts to load, because broadband providers (Comcast, cough, cough) have notoriously bad DNS servers.
http://www.opendns.com/
Features:
Safer: Automatically provides warnings against phisher attack sites
Faster: Speeds up your existing connection (works AWESOME with EV-DO cards, compared to Verizon's DNS Servers)
Smarter: Corrects spelling mistakes on the fly
It's a community project, and allows you to submit sites that are phisher sites, as well as spelling corrections, and if it can't find the URL you typed, it uses google to search for the words in the URL and returns those results not just like searching google for "digg.com"- mtxe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1look at ahill7's post

- rYno, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1or you can just be 'NOT retarded' and type ***** in correctly...
so you're still dumb because you typed the wrong thing - but now you're less-the-wiser about it. Good way to not learn from your mistakes.
Stupid addon - no digg - tektalk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1correct these topys and eb on yuore wya to ont seieng cok, phag, adn fcuk
- lamestory, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1cool, something else to slow down my already dog-slow and unstable FireFox 2.0
- xst4t1kx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Or you type it into the pre-existing google search bar which also corrects you and without the need for another plug-in.
