- jamessavik, on 08/13/2008, -1/+8NGC 6888 and its core star WR 136 beg the question: do Wolf-Rayet stars create planetary nebula or is the Wolf-Rayet phase still just a stopover on the way to a supernova for massive stars?
- thatsnoname, on 08/13/2008, -1/+2A planetary nebula is formed when a star like our Sun reaches the end
of its life. A Wolf-Rayet star on the other hand is much more massive,
and as you say this is just a transient phase in the life of a massive star.

- defektiv, on 08/13/2008, -0/+1I always have digg/mod/upvote love for APOD. If anyone understands how online advertising works, they should visit APOD whenever they think of it, along with the NASA pictures site as well. Space and Astro research need all the publicity they can get, the only way for them to gain more and retain funding is to show progress and show there's an interest.
My intentions are selfish, admittedly, but space is such an immense and uncharted expanse of things we can barely see, let alone imagine. It seems such a waste more doesn't go into world leaders working together and pooling funding to be out there more.
Just imagine eventually having research teams out literally exploring other worlds..- dragomatz, on 08/15/2008, -0/+1I agree, one can only imagine where our civilization would be right now if all the trillions of dollars that have been spent to kill our own kind instead was used to advance our civilizations.
- hostse, on 08/15/2008, -0/+0space ... beautiful like always ... mysterious ... amazing and attractive ...
