Bugmenot.com launches collaborative coupon code site
retailmenot.com — Bugmenot.com has launched a similar service where users can find and share discount coupon codes for online stores. It's cunningly named RetailMeNot.com. How long until someone writes a firefox extension for it?

- evolvedlight, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23nice. it just needs a few more users and it'll be well good. lets get this site popular!
- DAaaMan64, on 10/12/2007, -14/+47Yeah, maybe if it gets really popular, they'll remove coupon codes completely! Won't that be great?
- r2d7, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23Bugmenot hasn't removed anyone's desire for getting registrations.
Coupon sites have been around for ages, the result being most coupons have a short life and a limited number of uses. - sishgupta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11coupons and site registration are vastly different. Apples and oranges.
Just because an organization makes two separate websites does not mean they will impact people in the same way.
If this becomes popular i am guessing that more companies will have to use unique coupons for each customer. - doctornkul, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Actually maybe it will benefit the consumer more. Stores don't make coupons that run themselves out of business. Typically they lower prices so that more people will shop there. If this gets popular, stores will be encouraged to put out coupons, so that people from retailmenot.com will shop there. Consumers win, shops that put out coupons win, the only people that don't are shops that don't put out coupons, since all the business goes away from them.

- evansls, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12wow -- this is awesome! I've always wanted something like this that was super easy to search for coupons... thank you.
- r2d7, on 10/12/2007, -26/+2Googling what you want with +coupon was too hard?
- r2d7, on 10/12/2007, -21/+4lol, apparently it was too hard for some people.
- slapper, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2awesome - what a great site
- fiver22, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13digg -in the hopes that it becomes popular enough to be useful.
- MiloMindrbindr, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6i've always used dealcoupon.com for this. it suits my needs just fine, but I'll try this out. I hope its not like bugmenot, where its got a lot of codes that dont work and are pretty useless.
- Hellman109, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13bugMeNot is targetted buy some sites for removing the logins listed.
WIth the coupon site, the owners themselves could put on coupons as a way to generate traffic - perhaps. - mkamrk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1you might want to try this as well: http://www.dealplumber.com/deal/morecoupons
- elbirth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.dealcoupon.com is really good for coupons. Many sites list a lot of bogus ones (or keep up expired ones) but this stays fairly current and accurate

hahaha oh spaceballs... who ever posted that made me laugh. - pinsomniac, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The Dreamhost referral codes are driving me insane.
- floridiot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Code: PORNO
Description: 20% off of all custy porno
Wtf is custy porno?
- dbxz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18LOL... note this amazon.com "coupon"
- MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -9/+8You know, I really hate how bugmenot (and retailmenot) feels the need to inform me that I'm using Internet Explorer. IE7 works just fine for me; I use it by choice. Leave me alone. :/
- spongbros, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Hear, hear. I may be using Firefox, but in this day and age, you should be free to use whichever browser you want without being ridiculed by others.
- r2d7, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7You *are* free to choose. As long as you choose Firefox.
Firefox is about choice, not choices. - Shadar, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8If you don't use firefox you're with Bush and the terrorists. True Americans use Firefox, terrorists use IE.
- mustangAlly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It looks like the BugMeNot guys are listening. The IE warning has been taken off in the last day or so.
- dayquil, on 10/12/2007, -13/+7Keep in mind who you're keeping your three bucks from when you use one of these codes, please. Many online retailers, despite their sites being fancy or whatnot, are just small struggling businesses. Don't rip them off. They create these coupons for *repeat* business. Do you part for the economy and spend your money. If you can afford full price, buy from the small-time retailer at full price.
In short, don't be a dick. This is not the same as protecting your privacy from a site that requires registration by *any* stretch of the imagination. So don't go thinking you're still on the right side of morality when you do this. It may not be stealing per se, but it's surely against the intended use.- slapper, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8thats such rubbish. retailers use coupon codes etc to attract customers. if they dont want to sell at a discount nobody is forcing them. Which online retailers release coupon codes and dont expect them to be propogated over the internet?
- alen3K, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5So I understand you work in this field of business
- Shadar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is one of the stupidest posts I've seen on here. It's up there with people posting "Downloading this is illegal, just go buy it" on torrent sites.
Companies intentionally circulate their coupons to drum up business. The fact of the matter is, MOST people don't use coupons most of the time. But if you can get a new customer to come to your site with a coupon and they have a good experience they are more likely to come back again and buy stuff at full price. Also, the sites arn't the ones paying for those discounts always, in many cases it's the manufacturer who offers a rebate and the site uses coupons to extend those rebates to customers as it is a better marketing approach.
- profJohn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Great idea, and like other folks I'm looking forward to this getting more popular and populated with codes.
- antdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It would be cool for retail stores too.
- darshil, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4hmm. not sure about this one. you can just use special google searching terms to get the coupon you want. This might force companies to get either rid of online coupons or just try and find another technique. But, you never know. There have been sites like these and they haven't affected online coupons too much.
- appleswitch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Why does the design suck? bugnenot is so pretty :(
- adamsucks, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1How did THIS already get 500+ diggs?! It's the 2nd article on the front page, and to be honest, the site really isn't all that fantastic.
Seems a little fishy to me. - tomi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Nifty.
- moonwell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1maybe cuz ppls love bugmenot, usually I take the trouble over to create new regs where I can't find and I have off the day's good work xD
In my ff toolbar bugmenot is the third after digg and google so this means something :> - aedean, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I use http://www.mrcheapstuff.com for coupons and deals.
- ebbers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There are tons of other coupon sites out there. Three that come to mind are http://www.fatwallet.com, http://www.keepcash.com and http://www.slickdeals.net.
- mothergoose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I started using modoshi http://www.modoshi.com . They let me in as a beta tester. They pay for posting deals to the site. It's pretty cool. Not as impressed with this coupon site.

- DiscGolfer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0This looks like its going to be abused hard and end up being worthless. Its a great idea in theory.

- johnterris, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I love http://www.gogoshopper.com better. I found it has more stores and most complete coupon codes list.
- mikedom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Sometimes big sites dont always have the best coupons , most of them are run by software and promoted by the stores themselves ... most of these sites have the same coupons .
here are two little coupon sites , some of my best coupon savings were found here : printable coupons -> http://printable-coupons.blogspot.com/ and coupon codes -> http://coupon-codes-online.blogspot.com/ ... - Sideburn, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1The only problem is they don't validate the coupons on their site, befre they put them up. I use Coupon Mountain instead, for that exact reason.
