Announcing the Drupal Association
association.drupal.org — Drupal has finally outgrown its own britches. At least, it has grown enough to need a non-profit organization to manage fund-raising, infrastructure and marketing. Today, Dries Buytaert, founder of Drupal and president of the new entity, announced the Drupal Association on Drupal.org. First goal? Fundraising and beefing up drupal.org's hosting.

- greggles, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Woohoo - three cheers fundraising and upgraded hardware.
- sweintraub, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1How does Association differ from, say, "foundation" I wonder. Well, anyway the more Drupal the better I always say!
- robertDouglass, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8(this was meant as a reply to sweintraub) It is the same concept. The only point to remember here is that the entity is founded in Belgium under Belgian law. Thus, naming it "foundation" or "association" in English doesn't make much difference. It is the Belgian terms that have bearing in court.
- dknapen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2There's more info about this on http://association.drupal.org/about/faq
- txcrew, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Sign me up!
- bertboerland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3hmm, read the site. read the statutes. you cant sign up (yet). you can help however, for example by donating.
- jmeeter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So... What does this mean? Faster development? More features? I don't understand what the big news is.
- chrisgarrett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2More professional organisation and structure I guess. More donation potential meaning more resources for development?
- robertDouglass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe sponsorship by big companies, better infrastructure and better marketing. These should translate into a bigger, more vibrant community, and thus better features. It's the next logical step in Drupal's evolution.
- triad203, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2That's a heck of a long "summary" considering it doesn't mention anywhere the one thing I might have cared about, namely:
WTF IS DRUPAL?
However, as it wasn't mentioned, I figure it can't be important... So I'll move along.- Konquest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Behold the power of teh Google...

- Bender4Pharoah, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Uh, what's "Drupal"? I'm happy they have funding, etc. but who the heck are they, why should I care, and why isn't that info in the summary?
- robertDouglass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Digg summaries are very short.
- jswaby, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I would donate, but I just recently quit my job :*(
