macrumors.com — According to Fortune, the Copyright Royalty Board in Washington D.C. is expected to rule on Thursday about a request by the National Music Publishers' Association to increase royalty rates for downloads from online music stores such as iTunes. - lorductape, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2Just more proof that the recording industry does not get it.
- thatsmyaibo, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1Exactly. If iTunes gets shut down, piracy will sky rocket.
- bewmIES, on 09/30/2008, -1/+2Apple is right: consumers won't stand for a price increase. $.99 is a "sweet spot" and if the royalties are increased, and they need to eat the difference, it would be awesome if they closed it to prove a point.
- wwwluckyro, on 09/30/2008, -1/+3***** the RIAA or whatever it is this time
- Logal, on 09/30/2008, -1/+1Greedy *****.
- Lesoldiare, on 09/30/2008, -1/+0I agree with lorductape on his last point. It might be pretty cool to see just what happens when the iTunes Store is gone. Albums might cease to be purchased, famous rappers forced to fly on connercial airliners, the whole world would come to an end. Just because of one, little six-cent price increase.
- Steinr, on 09/30/2008, -0/+1IF they make a loss and it is no longer a viable business, they should shut it down or find an alternative. This is what you get tought in business school, same applies to the banks and it just the way business works. The gov. will not bail out apple now, will they?
- dsound, on 09/30/2008, -0/+0the increase is good for hard working song writers. These are the people that you don't hear/read about. There the ones in the studio 24 hours a day try to make so and so sound like gold. The song writers should get more money and if that means raising the price of music then so be it.
- MakaveIi, on 09/30/2008, -0/+0If iTunes closes, then I'm going on a Limewire spree
- thatsmyaibo, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2Lime...wire? What's that?

I'd like to buy an 'R' Pat.
- thatsmyaibo, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2Lime...wire? What's that?
- kizmar, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1The record labels should be taking the 6 cent per song hit, not the retailers. They're just going to screw over the artists even more by doing that. More and more artists will be selling stuff online like Trent Reznor. :)
