BitTorrent Tracker Hosting Illegal Says Dutch Court

torrentfreak.com — Leaseweb, the former ISP of BitTorrent trackers such as Demonoid, What.cd and Waffles.fm lost the appeal against the Dutch anti-piracy outfit BREIN. The Amsterdam court concluded that Leaseweb has to permanently shut down the BitTorrent tracker everlasting.nu, and hand over the admin’s personal information.

  • sega01, on 07/04/2008, -2/+18More stupidity in court. To be frank, I'm not sure who is winning; the sharerers of multimedia, or the lawyers of copyright. Many artists are turning to creative commons licenses and even encouraging file sharing, but so many groups are winning in court against sites which are equivalent to Google, just with an easier and more fine-tuned interface.

      Of course, merely operating a backend for P2P technology is not and should not be illegal, at BEST it should be subject to the same DMCA takedown notices everyone else has to put up with.

    So what they are letting people download is not copyrighted....but somehow still illegal? They should go after gun stores next, because after all, guns are an essential part of murder (with a gun). Or better yet, prosecute anyone who sells steak knives as those are an essential part of the stabbing other people in the head process.

That's where I'm releasing the video game I'm developing, and where I'm going to release my first album. I've seen a ton of legal things offered over torrents, just because they're the best way for individuals to launch information with bandwidth in mind.

    Power to the sharing community. We'll find somewhere. And what ever happened to the pirate bay's island? I know it fell through, but they better get back on it.
