Cluztr: share your web surfing in real time
blogs.zdnet.com — Cluztr is a social network and Firefox add-on that enables users to broadcast and share their web surfing 'history' in real time, as well as chat to others who are visiting the same site. In closed beta, ZDNet has a bunch of invite codes!

- marshallk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Can't help but compare this with AttentionTrust's plug-in and services like Root.net
Questions that didn't get asked in the otherwise good review:
* Can I export my history in a standard XML file?
* Can I delete my history from the Cluztr database if I'd like to?
* Can I login with OpenID?
* Are there any APIs in the works so the incredible ammount of data this captures can be programmed against by outside parties?
* Are there RSS feeds, if so how many and what are they?
Those are some things I'd like to know about this service. None the less, I am interested. Many times I'll show someone a bunch of sites arround the web and then say "If I wasn't so lazy I'd be using a service to capture all these URLs and then I could copy and paste them into an email to you so you can look at them again later." Could this be the way to do that? Not sure, as there are lots of different services working in the same direction.- mrspin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I'm pretty sure you can delete parts, or all, of your surfing history.
- JonnyAjax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Marshall,
AttentionTrust's plug-in and Root.net are similar technologies and services (and there are even more) that all deal in the "attention data" market. However, Cluztr is not focused on a data monetization or permission-based marketing model, it is a mechanism of social discovery, similar to Digg, del.icio.us and StumbleUpon, but with the unique element of real-time. Since Cluztr is a collection of browser histories - yours, your friends’ and everyone else's, this tells us what people are paying attention to right at that moment, so there’s a good chance you will want to check it out too.
Let me answer your questions:
* Can I export my history in a standard XML file?
Yes, we currently support, history files (linkstreams) in RSS.
* Can I delete my history from the Cluztr database if I'd like to?
Absolutely, it's a menu option, within the browser add-on.
* Can I login with OpenID?
We are currently working to support OpenID.
* Are there any APIs in the works so the incredible amount of data this captures can be programmed against by outside parties?
We are developing an API, to provide both user and community data for outside applications. Privacy concerns aside, there are many benefits for other online services, who can now respond to individual preferences, interests and habits.
* Are there RSS feeds, if so how many and what are they?
There are RSS feeds available of each user's linkstream (or clickstream). This is accessible from the user profile. This feed can be subscribed to with Live Bookmarks or any feed reader.
* "If I wasn't so lazy I'd be using a service to capture all these URLs and then I could copy and paste them into an email to you so you can look at them again later." Could this be the way to do that?
Cluztr provides a several ways to address this. You can send links to a friend's linkbox, simply by being on the page and clicking the "send to friend" icon next to their name. Or you could browse the web, then view your past linkstream and copy the appropriate links out of it.
Much of Cluztr's development will be from organic growth, therefore new features will be added based on how it is being used. - jeremy66158, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Invite me by emailing one to my digg id at hotmail
thanks - rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The bug report app should be called cluztrfuk
- marshallk, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Sweet!
- mrspin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Good to see the developer respond! Sounds like a cool road map.
- JonnyAjax, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4You can check out our current road map on our blog: http://cluztr.wordpress.com/2007/03/17/project-road-map/

- wingnut21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13I'm going to create a website called "stupidr" where you vote on which web 2.0 site name is the stupidst...r.
- Kyle660, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"'m going to create a website called "stupidr" where you vote on which web 2.0 site name is the stupidst...r."
Or an ultra-hip, cutting edge extra letter at the endd.
- lickmygiggle, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1hmm. Interesting concept.
I signed up, and I only see 3 users online....and for some reason it shows them all looking at exactly the same thing I'm looking at, which makes very little sense.- mrspin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2What site were you visiting?
- lickmygiggle, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I clicked all users under the page tab.
- JonnyAjax, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Cluztr is in a beta release ... and therefore hasn't achieved a "critical mass" or large user base yet. The other issue which you've described is a small bug which has been fixed.
- Dested, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2....It doesnt seem to be holding up to well right now
- JonnyAjax, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Is there something specific that isn't working for you Dested? Everything appears to be OK.
- ctrlaltcomplete, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Does everything these days have to end in 'r'?

enoughr!- coopa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's a pretty bad name, is it derived from 'clutz'? Seriously.
I'm not even sure how it's supposed to be pronounced.
It's not just the name that's off, but the service they're offering isn't really my kind of thing, but at least pick a name that's easy to pronounce, spell correctly and memorable. - VioletArrows, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm not sure if that's facetiousness or not.
Either way, it's Cluster. (Accidently thought it was klutz-r while skimming headline).

- JonnyAjax, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5We have an adult filter for "those" types of sites. ;)

- jonr, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Is it made by Motorola or something?
- truthteller, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Nothing is loading right now. The server's must be hammered.
- JonnyAjax, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Are the loading images continuously spinning? You may just be on pages with no users.

"Seriously, you are only embarrassing yourself. Stop it while you still have your dignity."
"I think that's my sister you *****!" - neutrascrub, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3wanna see my surfing habits?
Pron, Pron and Pron - nsummy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I don't think this is really anything new. ICQ came out with this feature about 5 years ago, although I'm not aware if it is still included in current versions.
- erikerikerik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"share your web surfing in real time"
the first that cam to my mind was foook that! even if they know I'm surfing porn I don't want them to know that I am. Just like masturbation.- daybreaker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2No kidding. Not only do I not need people to know I was visiting Tranny Explosion, I dont need to chat with the other weirdos who are there at the same time.
- evilelf2407, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2why the hell would anyone want this on their computer? why would you volunteer to share your personal life with people? this is the same as if i just decided to go download a ***** load of spyware, and trojans, and other nasty *****... and then go and post my IP address and everything else, on digg. the next step up from this is if someone set up a webcam and just broadcast themselves 24/7, everywhere, doing everything.

- aule, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1My only question is "why?" Why the hell would anyone care what other people are looking at in real time. Creepy *****' social networking 2.0 crapr.

posed to diggr and git richr - drummer1189, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6this app is seriously cooler than some of you guys think, i recommend you try it before flaming it
- FairlyStupid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Are you seriously on the cluztr payroll.
- GioSico, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you don't mind trusting their site to store your click stream (which you can make private) its a great way to create a browse-able backup of what you have surfed ... +1 ... I get a back up of my own clickstream as an RSS feed
I use it as a good filter of Digg and Reddit for friends etc ... - DarkBls, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Might worth the try
- FranktheMan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I think its cool. Imagine being able to meet people who have a very high correlation to your own interests. In the real world you would have to look for a life time and never find soul-mates.
And imagine millions on people on the Web and we can see in real time what the top sites are. It's the ultimate in social interaction...like the tag line says..you don't have to surf the web alone. - hawkmucci, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1this seems very invasive
- oliezekat, on 01/30/2008, -0/+0Cluztr is so nice tool to support on advanced lifestream like LiFE-Line (by LiFE2Front)... Thank you Jon :o)
