CometQuery - Better than Google search engine?
cometquery.com — "Unlike many other search engines CometQuery can only get better if you tell us what to do, we are a group of people who love reading comments about CometQuery and as soon as we get the comments we get to work. CometQuery provides fast results with thumbnails, like as seen on Ask.com.We may have a simple homepage but we also have a lot of power"

- pirana0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This search engine is nice. It's be nice for a video tab that searches a lot of video sharing sites :)
- behn1220, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8No.
- Stonedonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9It has Google AdWords above the search results. Oh, delicious irony.
- terrab0t, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5More than irony, it's not entirely wise to let your biggest competitor supply your ad content. Google can write an exception to their ad supplying code to frequently display google search engine ads on their site.
- Ninjab3ar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3To me, the only thing that google is missing is a video search engine, one that searches for videos within other websites, sort of like what Yahoo! already does.
- Blunty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It has a friggin "Digg It" link at the top of every page. Yeah, this is better than Google :-p
- livejamie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6how uuuugglllyyy
- st00p1d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Unlike many other search engines CometQuery can only get better if you tell us what to do, we are a group of people who love reading comments about CometQuery and as soon as we get the comments we get to work"
Yeah, that sounds sustainable... - turpenine, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3comment> your site is ugly. if you want some fix ups I am a designer.
- terrab0t, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't know when that design was made, but it's interesting that they chose what looks to be a Christmas theme. I just had a sample logo for the site I'm working on shown to me two weeks ago that featured what was thought to be an unambiguous snowflake. I pointed out that is makes the name look like it's also supposed to have something to do with winter or Christmas.
- sapped, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Aside from the fact that three random searches produced better results in Google than in Comet I was also unable to click anywhere on the site to find out how or why they were supposed to be better.
In addition some entries contain a bit of mystery meat down the sides. No idea what that was supposed to do for me.
Oh yeah - it is also dog slow due to the digg effect even though it has a "digg it" button on the front page.
Come back when you have something compelling to show us. - etandrib, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It is very ugly and slow. I don't want to wait for thumbnails to popup. I want accurate search results, and FAST. Oh, I also don't want to be buried by advertisements (MSN, AOL, and Yahoo!)
- nic28, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1why does it take a few seconds to load a tab?
- adragons, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Cons :
-Logo is way too big
-my query disappears after i press submit (maybe i want to make a minor change)
-on a 1024x768 screen i only get 1.75 results on the first page. Google gives me 6
I tried searching for something a bit obscure 'rhode island police'
-Google gave me more POLICE related sites
-CometQuery gave me a MySpace profile, a colleges campus police page.
Pros :
-Ajax is cool.
Overall, its crap, but still cannot blame them for trying. - nickweb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Unfortunately, parts of the page don't even work. Click on the 'creative' tab and try a search and it returns "creative.php" was not found on this server. That's not very creative. :) Better than Google? No frackin' way.
- RogerH, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, I did my favorite web search engine test: "wow"
Based on just the text, Comet Search decided that "wow.net - WOW Internet Trinidad and Tobago", was the best match. Windows Live makes the same mistake.
But, Google knows that by context, the first result should be "www.worldofwarcraft.com - World of Warcraft Community Site".
Keep trying, Comet Search! - tvblogcan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dear Digg users. I have read your comments with great intrest. I am a one man person behind this search engine and I plan to open source it within a few months, this is a project that should not of had Google Adsense on, and as such I have removed them. I don't want to look like I am doing this for profit, so in turn I will never put adverts on the website. I really do welcome everyone of the comments you have made.
It has Google AdWords above the search results. Oh, delicious irony.
> Can we count this as my stupidity? I regret doing this and it only had Google adsense on for a day. I have taken them down and decided I shall work on this project with the community in mind.
It has a friggin "Digg It" link at the top of every page. Yeah, this is better than Google :-p
> The reason I did this is that I want peoples comments, as I can see very few of them are nice, but that is want I wanted. Now I know what I have to get at work at and do!
Yeah, that sounds sustainable...
> Ok. Well the idea is I am going to go open source, and as such I hope for that to be the goal of the people who create it after I leave.
I don't know when that design was made, but it's interesting that they chose what looks to be a Christmas theme.
> That design was made.. about 5 hours ago!
Why does it take a few seconds to load a tab?
> My servers had space in mind being we was not expecting to really get dugg that much :-
Well, I did my favorite web search engine test: "wow"
> I edited are Algorythm. You can now search again and I am sure you will be happy. Thanks for informing me!
"creative.php" was not found on this server.
> Fixed. Sorry for that!
my query disappears after i press submit (maybe i want to make a minor change)
> Fixed. Thanks for the comment.
On a 1024x768 screen i only get 1.75 results on the first page. Google gives me 6
> Now get 5! Great comment
I tried searching for something a bit obscure 'rhode island police'
> Fixed. Thanks for the with the new Algo change - jurkis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Could you change charset to UTF-8 please?
- tvblogcan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Jurkis. Righto.
- unruled, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Love the ajax implementation for switching between search modes. Excellent. The clean look is also great.
wikipedia tab isnt loading right now, but if it is a search into wiki, then thats the best thing since sliced bread. I check wiki many times per day.
I would reccomend to change the thumbnail size to perhaps 96x96 pixels. Its too small to really be able to tell what it is atm.
Also, on search results, perhaps make the URL (the one in blue) a bit smaller font.
As for the search results, havent had enough time to test it yet, but I think this is a great project. The fact that you mentioned it may go opensource is amazing! I dont think Ive ever heard of an opensource engine before, but it sounds like an amazing idea!
Keep up the good work. Greetings from the netherlands. - tvblogcan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thank you unruled. If you want feel free to add my MSN so I can both keep you up-to date and also rip things from your mind ;). tvcokecan@flipmail.be. Great comments and I can promise I am going to be working on everything you just said above. And yes it is normally a search to Wiki. I am about to release the next version in about 2 hours which should fix the problem and release a version for the Netherlands!
