Did Supernova17 Get Banned for Submitting a Controversial Story?
flickr.com — Apparently, Supernova17 was banned for submitting "Digg Bury Brigade Exists, and Here's My Proof". Is it because he knowingly submitted a dupe or because he was promoting views that went against Digg? Nobody knows the answer but I want to know. Change your profile icon to Supernova17's if you feel this is wrong.

Combined there's 100+ Diggs there but still no homepage. Why did Supernova17 get banned while the other didn't?- koregaonpark, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20For submitting a duplicate story. He submitted the same URL with a # at the end. He says he was given the URL like that, and I believe him. Sadly, Digg doesn't believe in giving people the benefit of the doubt. After all the years he has spent on Digg, actively submitting stories, he was banned without a notice... again.
What I'm really interested to know is how both the stories magically disappeared from the Digg queue (and front page?) without actually being buried by users. They were moderated... censored. - richstyles, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10He could have been tricky and submitted "URL#comments" or something like that but really? That's a flaw in the duplicate detection system and lots of websites serve you URLs with the # or even a query string in it (like the WordPress' default URL structure).
This isn't the first time Supernova17 dissappeared but I feel like this might be the last. Like someone said, it's a sad state of affairs. - foxhaze, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2Because this isn't news...
- blackolive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3@Koregaonpark
They were buried by users & we said it in the comments. Stop the conspiracy theory. - blackolive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2"Did he really get banned for a duplicate submission? I figured it was because the story contained information that could pose a privacy/security threat. "
(Said by "Theattacks" below) - thefat, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2He should have never been unbanned the first time.

- adiqiucorp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Lack of transparency related to users always made things to deteriorate. You can shout someone up but you cannot stop the idea. I don't know if bury brigade exists or not, but i think if 4-5 friends decide to bury your stories, you cannot do anything about it.
- richstyles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9It wouldn't be so bad if it was just a lack of transparency because there are some aspects they need to keep a black box but it just makes no sense how Digg just doesn't make a statement or openly talk about this.
- richstyles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8For those of you changing icons, just use this:

save it to your system and upload it from your profile page. - dagospelman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Where can I get the T-Shirt?
- 1389, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@richstyles,
They did take it down. How typical of Digg - perhaps they should rename the entire site "Bury" because of their overeagerness to cover up anything that looks like a problem!
LOL...

- TheAttacks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Did he really get banned for a duplicate submission? I figured it was because the story contained information that could pose a privacy/security threat.
- richstyles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Well, you really don't know because nobody says anything. Bloodjunkie did post the exact same story and he's still here (yet).
As for security/privacy concerns, that's something for Digg to take up with the sites/blogs posting this data and not the user. In fact, if you take that argument Digg should be thankful to the submitter for raising the matter and bringing it to their attention. - TheAttacks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Exactly my thoughts, but I'm sure Digg wouldn't ban him for submitting a duplicate story. He's a high-profile user and a dupe isn't something that I can see them banning him for, risking the community backlash that is sure to come especially if it's for a simple duplicate.
- koregaonpark, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I can confirm that it was because he submitted a "dupe". I'll let you ask him yourself when he's reinstated later today.
Digg doesn't give a ***** about risking "community backlash". The TOS states that they're allowed to remove users/stories without any prior notice or valid reason. Heads up, Digg is not a democracy. - TheAttacks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Do you have his aim? I used to have it, but it's been ages since we've talked.
- richstyles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Well, you really don't know because nobody says anything. Bloodjunkie did post the exact same story and he's still here (yet).
- canewediggit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8i'm sorry to hear this, as i like nova (keeps up on nba news), but this whole "bury brigade" trend is going around promoting falsehoods. i won't deny i bury stories, but i DO NOT appreciate multiple posts on digg claiming i'm making activity i clearly am not. perhaps part of the reasoning was he was posting false information about digg users? how would you feel if i fudged some online chat session on another site and submitted "Digg User XXXX Paid for Submissions, Here's the Proof?"
as noted- http://digg.com/tech_news/Digg_s_Bury_Data_Exposed#c5459347 this data is wrong. i don't go around posting false info about your data, so until you guys get the CORRECT data, quit posting inaccuracies with my name on it.
i look forward to having nova back, but you guys need to make sure your data is correct before you go making multiple submissions about it.
and before anyone thinks it/comments on it- no, i did not report him for any abuse. i'm more than happy to air out dirty laundry in the open forum of the comment section. - TheAttacks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10http://digg.com/users/supernova17/news/dugg
Unbanned now. . . .- richstyles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2cool, better go look for my panda again...

- elebrio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4should have read all the comments before posting.
