Digg the Candidates updates
blog.digg.com — We just released a new version of Digg the Candidates today - check it out if you ’re interested in following the latest U.S. presidential election news on Digg.
- 744 diggs
- digg it
- traphik, on 06/27/2008, -2/+41Also the footer and header has been re-worked. Privacy policy has also changed.
- QuadZeroRoute, on 06/27/2008, -3/+8I think we have a problem. I notice that on my profile I am no longer supporting candidate John McCain. Did Digg remove that? Can somebody answer that one for me? I sure would appreciate that being put back.
If you selected Barack Obama is he still selected in your profile?- Daniel591992, on 06/27/2008, -0/+5Yes, same happens for Obama
- shupp, on 06/27/2008, -0/+9I've already fixed this, and will be pushed out to the live site shortly. Sorry for the inconvenience.
- nreynolds, on 06/27/2008, -0/+9no dude, Digg just assumed that after all this time, you've probably changed your mind about supporting McCain but forgot to remove it from your profile.
- raisedinhell, on 06/28/2008, -2/+1dear god it looks ugly as hell like this
believe me, i understand the purpose of the change... but this is a terrible implementation
- QuadZeroRoute, on 06/27/2008, -3/+8I think we have a problem. I notice that on my profile I am no longer supporting candidate John McCain. Did Digg remove that? Can somebody answer that one for me? I sure would appreciate that being put back.
- maverick999, on 06/27/2008, -22/+26I predict much more Obama spam in Digg's future with this release...
- bpapa, on 06/27/2008, -3/+14Not sure what else happened but it appears that "cloud view" is no longer available for upcoming stories? If this was intentionally removed, please bring it back! I use it all of the time.
- estvir, on 06/28/2008, -0/+3It's the only reasonable way to browse upcoming stories, going page by page is ridiculous considering the amount of spam.
Digg already started screwing over those who actually look in the upcoming section when they broke the cloud view by most popular.
- estvir, on 06/28/2008, -0/+3It's the only reasonable way to browse upcoming stories, going page by page is ridiculous considering the amount of spam.
- d3lta, on 06/27/2008, -2/+2I like the new look, its cleaner... I noticed the cloudview wasn't working for all topics for the last few weeks, but please bring it back!
- Frazzlet, on 06/27/2008, -2/+9I think the buttons for News, Images, Podcasts etc look like they are floating in the middle of nowhere, not aligned in any direction.
- Shorties, on 06/27/2008, -6/+25I like the new grayish look for upcoming stories
- traphik, on 06/27/2008, -3/+1tannish...
- shadowfoxmi, on 06/27/2008, -8/+3gayish..
- ElBeh, on 06/27/2008, -3/+5I think it's terrible. I understand if they want to use a different theme to differentiate from the "Upcoming" section and the "Popular" section, but the palette of colors for Upcoming are really boring.
- MavRevMatt, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1They want to bore people who are looking to actually use upcoming so they can push people to use shouts to promote stuff... Which doesn't work.
- nova912, on 06/27/2008, -7/+3What's the deal with airline peanuts?
- Deviant_Tech, on 06/27/2008, -2/+4Or just check the front page...
- DeeCafe, on 06/27/2008, -22/+14Where is Ron Paul?
- t3hmadhatter, on 06/27/2008, -11/+3Agreed.
- bawitback, on 06/27/2008, -7/+6Agreed. Where is Ron Paul?
- nymphetamine, on 06/27/2008, -2/+14Retirement in the Bahamas.
- ahawks, on 06/27/2008, -15/+3Seriously. Why are we being buried?
On the list are:
Ralph Nader
Cynthia McKinney (???)
Bob Barr
and Alan Keyes
I don't know who most of those people are, and I know for sure they were not as popular (especially on digg) as Ron Paul.
So quit burying us just because you don't like the candidate we picked. You know full well the Obamabots are just as bad as we ever were as far as spamming Digg, but apparently that's ok.- mike17032, on 06/27/2008, -0/+9Popularity and spam are two different things.
- Hefelumpman, on 06/28/2008, -1/+1Sir, you are an idiot.
It's not about who's popular, it's about who is CURRENTLY RUNNING.
- Hefelumpman, on 06/27/2008, -0/+18Dropped out - pay more attention!
http://www.ronpaul2008.com/- ahawks, on 06/27/2008, -10/+3Yeah, we know, but you're going to tell me Alan Keyes is still in it?
Or NADAR? He didn't even run this time I don't think.
And who the ***** is Cynthia McKinney.
If you're going to exclude people for not still being "in it", I think this list needs a bit more trimming.
- ahawks, on 06/27/2008, -10/+3Yeah, we know, but you're going to tell me Alan Keyes is still in it?
- mike17032, on 06/27/2008, -6/+9Last place.
Notice that they only list the leading people for each party. Old paul got roflstomped and is not running.- metapop, on 06/27/2008, -5/+3last person to drop out is not last place- technically, i suppose first person to drop out is, which makes that ghouliani.
most money raised in the history of american politics in a single day is not last place.
p.s. you're an *****.
- metapop, on 06/27/2008, -5/+3last person to drop out is not last place- technically, i suppose first person to drop out is, which makes that ghouliani.
- Netwatcher, on 06/27/2008, -0/+12Wow, thats some pretty serious evidence that Ron Paul was just another meme to some people
He dropped out. Try to keep up
- t3hmadhatter, on 06/27/2008, -11/+3Agreed.
- STPZ, on 06/27/2008, -4/+2Does this mean no more US election politics on the front page? Or just another saturated page?
- Jmn187, on 06/27/2008, -9/+6Wheres Ron Jeremy?
- benologist, on 06/27/2008, -4/+16lol @ "the diversity of interest from Digg users". Especially with politics.
- DeanO1589, on 06/27/2008, -0/+5I chuckled a little at that one myself.
- shadowfoxmi, on 06/27/2008, -2/+5dugg!
where's my treat? - krnldmp, on 06/27/2008, -15/+2What the ***** is this noise?:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080627/ap_on_el_pr/ob ...
I hope Obama's fellating the Clintons takes him down so far and hard that Ron Paul comes back into the race.- ahawks, on 06/27/2008, -2/+2Dude grow up. Of course they're trying to unite the democratic party, or Obama has no chance against McCain.
- krnldmp, on 06/27/2008, -1/+1What? To think I've seriously investigated and considered Obama putting aside better judgment just to have him finally tell me I need the Clintons, makes me really, really mad. And you're out to lunch.
- Netwatcher, on 06/27/2008, -2/+1LOL!
Your too stupid to own an internet.
Go read a book instead.- krnldmp, on 06/27/2008, -1/+1Congratulations! You're the ONLY person on my block list.
- ahawks, on 06/27/2008, -2/+2Dude grow up. Of course they're trying to unite the democratic party, or Obama has no chance against McCain.
- trollick, on 06/27/2008, -7/+2Alan Keyes FTW
- ieatpizza, on 06/27/2008, -1/+3rofl
- bawitback, on 06/27/2008, -16/+4Presidential candidate Ron Paul is NOT listed.
Where is Ron Paul?- Hefelumpman, on 06/27/2008, -1/+18You should really pay more attention to your candidate - He dropped out of the race already
http://www.ronpaul2008.com/ - mike17032, on 06/27/2008, -9/+1In last place, with no chance in hell of ever winning.
- Netwatcher, on 06/27/2008, -3/+8Ron Paul, isn't on the list because wasn't running for President...
...he was running for meme on 4chan.
And last time I checked he had lost to Mudkipps
- Hefelumpman, on 06/27/2008, -1/+18You should really pay more attention to your candidate - He dropped out of the race already
- Scopitone, on 06/27/2008, -2/+15Who the ***** is friending Alan Keyes?!
- ahawks, on 06/27/2008, -16/+2Where the ***** is Ron Paul?
- blake10, on 06/27/2008, -2/+5wow, no clue, huh?

- mike17032, on 06/27/2008, -10/+5Incomming Rontard and Kuctard spam!
Game away moonbats, to bad internet support isnt the same thing as real votes. 5% ftl!- Equinox1, on 06/27/2008, -2/+1Rontard....Kuctard?
Are you four?
- Equinox1, on 06/27/2008, -2/+1Rontard....Kuctard?
- pathouston22, on 06/27/2008, -6/+18"diversity of interest"
As in black Obama supporters, white Obama supporters, poor Obama supporters, and rich Obama supporters? Yes, digg is very diverse.- bdbr, on 06/28/2008, -0/+5They have pro-Obama articles and anti-McCain articles. That's the diversity, I guess.
And if you think I'm being sarcastic, just look at the page.
- bdbr, on 06/28/2008, -0/+5They have pro-Obama articles and anti-McCain articles. That's the diversity, I guess.
- Creampuffs, on 06/27/2008, -16/+5Digg this comment if you want Obama to win.
- AndrewDB, on 06/27/2008, -1/+9I want Obama to win, but I don't like being told what to do by talking doughnuts.
- UnFriendlyFire, on 06/27/2008, -12/+3Buried for not including RP
- mike17032, on 06/27/2008, -1/+11It only includes people are IN the race.
- Netwatcher, on 06/27/2008, -1/+3Ross Perot?
I didn't even know he was running this year.
Wasn't he the other short crazy white guy that dropped out at the end of the race, like Ron Paul? - Ocelot13, on 06/27/2008, -1/+1ron paul dropped out of the race... check his website.
- mike17032, on 06/27/2008, -1/+11It only includes people are IN the race.
- restill, on 06/27/2008, -3/+0Does this mean political headlines will stop wasting space on the front page?
- bobbarr2008, on 06/27/2008, -5/+20I was showing Bob Digg the other night and I think he really found it interesting. I caught him checking out his Diggs a day later and grumbling about the numbers. I told him not to worry too much - all in good time.
Check out his site here: http://www.bobbarr2008.com

-Martin BB08- whytheam, on 06/27/2008, -0/+4It's Ok Bob, you've only been on digg for 9 Days. Like Martin says, "All in good time."
- dagnome1984, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1People might mistake him for the cartoon elephant. That might be the problem. :P
- marky_mark, on 06/27/2008, -11/+3Where's Ron Paul
- Netwatcher, on 06/27/2008, -2/+4Haven't you heard, He's left politics...
... He's now writing a conspiracy book about the Federal Reserve, the Illuminati and the Crab People.
Should be a best seller with the tin foil hat crowd.
- Netwatcher, on 06/27/2008, -2/+4Haven't you heard, He's left politics...
- Daniel591992, on 06/27/2008, -3/+20I love how people compalin that Ron Paul isn't there when he isn't even a candidate...
- Netwatcher, on 06/27/2008, -8/+5Hey they wasted a good year and a half of our lives spamming us with Ron Paul fiction,
why would they want to stop now?
Ron Paul for Emperor of the Moon!
Who can save the Moon!
Ron Paul!
Ron Paul!
Ron Paul!
Blah!
They can go wear a tin foil hat for all I care.
- Netwatcher, on 06/27/2008, -8/+5Hey they wasted a good year and a half of our lives spamming us with Ron Paul fiction,
- jonlarge, on 06/27/2008, -6/+1Direct link without blog spam:
http://digg.com/elections/- a3r0, on 06/27/2008, -0/+5Why would digg have to spam itself?
- jonlarge, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1it was a joke
- MrTito, on 06/27/2008, -1/+7Isn't Cynthia McKinney the congresswoman who got into it with capitol police a few years ago?
Edit: Ah, yeah she is.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cynthia_McKinney#The_ ...- donte, on 06/27/2008, -0/+4I assume she's just hoping that next January she's just going to walk up to the white house and slap/bitch-out any security that happens to stop her.
On a more serious note... what a pompous bitch.
- donte, on 06/27/2008, -0/+4I assume she's just hoping that next January she's just going to walk up to the white house and slap/bitch-out any security that happens to stop her.
- dagnabbit, on 06/27/2008, -0/+7For a while I was the only digger to have been "befriended" by Barack Obama on digg. Then they unfriended me :(
- serif69, on 06/27/2008, -5/+4Obama doesn't want to be friends. He just wants people on Digg to felate him and go home. Which, apparently, is happening.
- ElBeh, on 06/27/2008, -2/+5http://digg.com/img/feature-meetup.gif
- SQLserver, on 06/27/2008, -6/+7This made my day!
No Ron Paul! - Zedizdead, on 06/27/2008, -2/+2Seriously, why bother with this? We know where diggers stand.
- JulyZerg, on 06/27/2008, -0/+2Differing Opinions? O.o
I, for one, do not enjoy the trolls. - 55mph, on 06/27/2008, -7/+1Why bother? We have a one party system thanks to special interest funding. Obama has started to sound like a Republican as he panders for every vote he can get. All of a sudden Iran is his new enemy?
I'm voting for Ron Paul. If he's not in the news, why bother with digg's BS. - unitedstatians, on 06/27/2008, -1/+3I’m not ashamed to say, my first plus one digg for Digg of 2008. Out of all the popular social destinations on Internets, this is a first for Digg. To list unknown 3rd party Candidates in a very important US presidential race, requires massive amounts of cojones, internal foresight and mitigated courage. Everyone should further investigate, why eny of the top 1000 News sites on the web, don't dare list 3rd party candidates on single page next to the main rival factions. E Pluribus Duo, sucks. This is a digital history in the making.
There one thing in the back of mine, I must share. This is clear as day, Digg will eclipse traditional news outlets (newspapers, close-circuit traditional television) and has become a legion to be reckon with. Not a single drop will be shed, dwells till the day. Digg must prepare for fodder the pessimist will throw for their handlers.
I dig liberty and intellectual mobility, Digg is not your enemy. Cybersapience is free, stupidity is dangerous. For a more perfect Union. [*fist bumps the heavens*]- raynevandunem, on 06/28/2008, -1/+1"There one thing in the back of mine, I must share...........Not a single drop will be shed, dwells till the day. Digg must prepare for fodder the pessimist will throw for their handlers."
Is English your first language? I get your sentiment and all (and I think that pessimists have the right to express themselves), but what are you saying?- unitedstatians, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1"I get your sentiment and all (and I think that pessimists have the right to express themselves), but what are you saying?"
Do you really need me to explain the consistent fake duality in the U.S political system. Anything which threatens their existence and control is harshly criticized, in traditional News media. Do you really think the FCC is impressed by the technological change which will occur early 2009? Or are 'they' afraid of the natural disappearance of an entire industry? Why is the Government spending more on the Digital TV promotion switch than LITERACY (Yes, the word 'literacy' has the proper capital lettering)? Why would I pay $50 a month for Digital cable and STILL have to watch advertising every 12 minutes of every half hour.
NPR has a story, Lawmakers spends $3 BILLION to keep Americans watching TV, here's $3 BILLION dollars, don't leave your couch. They spend $3 billion because it allows them to make a profit on the spectrum of $20 billion. Do you think the FCC, wants the spectrum currently used for analog TV to give them as gifts to the American people?
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?story ...
Not a single wet eye will be shown, by it's past mental poverty coerced/stricken audience. Of course, pessimist have a right to express themselves, in which ever lawful manner they wish to do so. But trolls should keep their stupidity to themselves.
"Go back to your TV, America. Your government is under control. You are free to do as we tell you." You see now, why the rest of the world considers us brain-washed?
"Is English your first language?"
Well. English is not my main language and I can spot most mistakes in my posts. I write here to inform you, my brain usually translates my posts to their intended spellin/gramma before time runs out in the proper English tea-house speakin', I never pretended to be a flawless biological being with zero error malfunctions in the linguistic module. Have you ever heard the phrase " I have this thought in back of my mind" this phrase is closest to what I initially intended to express.
- unitedstatians, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1"I get your sentiment and all (and I think that pessimists have the right to express themselves), but what are you saying?"

- MadOgre, on 06/27/2008, -1/+2All I gotta say is thank God most Diggers don't get out and actually VOTE.
- raynevandunem, on 06/27/2008, -1/+1Um, just to mention, Cynthia McKinney is not the Green Party candidate as the party doesn't have a presumptive nominee announced yet, at least according to Wikipedia.

And I'm sure I'm the only one who's friend's activity jumped 400 thanks to kevinrose's shouts :P
- JNudda, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1im not the only one*
- SpeedyG, on 06/28/2008, -0/+1Thanks for the heads up, Mr. Rose.
*goes to settings to reconfirm that election section is disabled* - unitedstatians, on 06/28/2008, -1/+1To the Digg crew, I appreciate your invaluable efforts and expertise in designing a spatially pleasing web application that is digg.com.
As a long time digger for a bit less then 4 years now. What I'm most fascinated about is it's transparency, Diggers don't have to look at the recent popular front page news stories if they don’t want to, diggers can click the stories of the day, week, month or year. Even browse the popular archives they'll go all the way back to the year 2004.
Perhaps, the popular archives section does need a Calendar-view upgrade, or even suggest stories that I might like from there.
Here's are good examples of Calendar-views -

Respond with your thoughts, If any? - unitedstatians, on 06/28/2008, -1/+2To the Digg crew, almost two years ago, there was a good story on the front page about how unnaturally calibrated bright monitors can strain your eyes. Even as just a reminder, it really helps with decrease eye strain while digging. Ever since that story, I always thought , why doesn't Digg have a dark theme option? A dark version of Digg will look pretty cool too. So, basically there's a solution, I will suggest a dark background on light text practically almost everything inverted. It'll make the site a lot more usable, won't blot out your eyes and no more headaches or eye fatigue either.
Agreeably, the Digg crew have already experimented with this, as you can see in Revision3 forums (before 2007), Digg labs and as you also mention Digg the blog site. Why not Digg.com, I humbly ask? Well all I can say from is it might help, enhancing the default light color design scheme, to reduce the ruining of our vision.
Also, what digg really needs is a dark theme. I wish you'll consider redesign idea, anything is possible. So instead of the boring white Digg, spice it up with a new futuristic black theme. I really appreciate your efforts, cause prescribed eyeglasses are expensive! Lastly, after the small header shuffle changes today, site seems much more improved.

Thank you for reading, digg in geek on. - inkpanther, on 06/28/2008, -0/+0I knew John Cain was not for me. I started out in the beginning wanting Hilary. Then I realized that she wasn't for me. Then I thought well maybe Obama was the one . Then I realized he was not for me either. It finally hit me Bob Barr is for me. So I am for him.
- saru0123, on 07/21/2008, -0/+0To the Digg crew, I really appreciate your priceless efforts and skill in designing a spatially pleasing web application that is digg.com.
