- aussieNickuss, on 06/15/2008, -3/+92You know.....you've been able to enjoy a much improved Firefox going on a couple of months now.
- FoxtrotYankee, on 06/15/2008, -0/+1Will most of the plug-ins work or will I have to wait for the release version to be out for a while before they support 3.0?
- oneoverzero, on 06/15/2008, -0/+2Depends on the developers of the plug-ins, but I'd say that most would work. They've (well, everybody has) had a few months to work with the alphas, betas, and RCs.
- ElAmo, on 06/15/2008, -0/+1Three of the five plugins I used with Firefox 2 work with the RC2 version of Firefox three I am now using.
- aussieNickuss, on 06/16/2008, -0/+1Every one of my extensions (Web Dev, HTMLValidator & Glasser) has gained FF3 support, but with each beta version I upgrade to, it's always a week or two after that all the extensions are updated again. I'm still on RC1 until the official release. I just don't wanna risk not having access to my extensions if I upgrade to RC2.

- TheWorm, on 06/15/2008, -3/+15You already can, I've been using the beta for quite a while now. I hated Firefox 2 on Macs, but 3 has changed my life.
- svensksvamp, on 06/15/2008, -5/+18changed your life..? really?
- planksconstant, on 06/15/2008, -0/+4changed mine!
- TheWorm, on 06/15/2008, -0/+2If you're on the computer as much as I am, then yes, Firefox 3 did. It's kinda sad, but true.
- Rauby, on 06/15/2008, -0/+7Yes, Firefox 2 on Mac sucks ass. I´ve been using Firefox 3 from version beta 3.
- redwallhp, on 06/15/2008, -1/+2I'm waiting for Download Day. I have Firefox 2 for the mac, and I agree the Windows version is better (I've been using Win32 Firefox since 2004 if I remember correctly.)
- Daniel591992, on 06/15/2008, -0/+1I'm new to the Mac, but I can't see how FF3 is any better than Safari. I only use FF3 on Windows, but I use it just because of the speed. To me, Safari seems good enough. Plus, to be honest, I don't like how FF3 looks on the Mac. For some reason, the buttons look kinda funny.
- Rauby, on 06/15/2008, -0/+1Firefox 3 Safari theme: http://www.takebacktheweb.org/

- NexusV2, on 06/15/2008, -5/+0To be honest, I don't think it's going to be much different from the latest release (RC3 I believe)
Firefox has come along way since Firefox 2.....I wonder when Microsoft will stop making skins for IE, anyone wanna hazard a guess? - ALink2ThePast, on 06/15/2008, -0/+1Does anyone know what time is the much improved Firefox going to be available? Do they put it out at midnight?

- Ridgeliner7, on 06/14/2008, -7/+75I just hope everyone will have their extensions and add-ons updated by Tuesday! I tried the final Beta, but none of the extensions would work....:-(
- eHobayyeb, on 06/14/2008, -9/+10Most of my extensions work fine with the final Beta?!
- doshindude, on 06/15/2008, -8/+25Nightly Tester Tools >>>>> Force Install/Override Compatibility
Figure it out people.- GrantTLC, on 06/15/2008, -12/+4It still bugs me that NTT is even necessary - a definite failure of the extension process.
- twiztidsinz, on 06/15/2008, -0/+20How so?
Because it's designed not to let you by default install a plug-in for a version that it hasnt been tested on by the author?
By using the Nightly Tester Tools you're bypassing a stability feature designed to ensure that the plug-in you're using works the way the plug-in developer intended it to work when he released it.
To be blatantly honest, the beta is a testing ground.
Your convenience is not a top priority.
- twiztidsinz, on 06/15/2008, -0/+20How so?
- GrantTLC, on 06/15/2008, -12/+4It still bugs me that NTT is even necessary - a definite failure of the extension process.
- twiztidsinz, on 06/15/2008, -0/+4There wasnt much incentive to update tools to the latest version.
There is ONE change between RC2 and RC3 and that's only for Mac's
But yeah.. the Nightly Tester Tools make the beta much more bearable. - aliguana, on 06/15/2008, -0/+1aside from TabMixPlus, all of my extensions work.
- rleeden, on 06/15/2008, -0/+6There is a development version of TabMixPlus that is FF3 compatible: http://tmp.garyr.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7031

It's not like it's a revolution. More software to download, update and update and update and update.
I like Firefox but it's just a damned browser.- Nick22, on 06/15/2008, -1/+20True, but when you start to do any sort of web design, you appreciate browsers like firefox and opera alot more.

- ronaldmonster, on 06/15/2008, -11/+3Firefox 1.5 maybe...I'd kill for that version
- lochness, on 06/15/2008, -7/+10Firefox is so superior to Asfari, it's not even funny!
- Rauby, on 06/15/2008, -2/+12Yes, Asfari is very very naughty browser.
- LouisC, on 06/15/2008, -1/+2Firefox can't compete with Safari. Yes, Firefox has extensions, but Safari has a much better rendering engine, and it's much faster than Firefox (well, webkit nightlies are).
I use Opera because of mouse gestures and because it feels faster. Safari's amazing but there are no mouse extensions (the addon I got doesn't work), and Firefox annoys me. It bugs the hell out of me when a new version comes out and I have to download updates for the many extensions I need to simulate the features Opera has built in. Plus once you install that many extensions, firefox gets a lot slower. Plus, I'm used to Opera.
- googooly, on 06/15/2008, -2/+4Can't wait several years from now Firefox shares hit more that %50. I die to see this day
- jumanous, on 06/15/2008, -2/+8agreed. I generally like Microsoft stuff.. but Firefox clearly pwns ie.

- prsurfer, on 06/15/2008, -13/+2Better checkout OPERA 9.5 and all its blessings!
Many will be surprised ...
I ve tried them all... OPERA is the winner!- robz0rz, on 06/15/2008, -0/+2Meh, I like the way that Firefox blends in with my OS, and doesn't look like some alien program. I used to be a huge fan of Opera too though, but not anymore

***** THING SUCKS!- Chris4, on 06/15/2008, -1/+2You'd think they would take in all the stuff everyone hates about it and improve it, yet they just don't bother and keep it as the same crappy explorer.
- DentThat, on 06/15/2008, -3/+1give me some specific reasons why FF is soooooooooo much better than IE. You can customize IE to be like FF...
- KingGorilla, on 06/16/2008, -0/+1why customize IE to be like Firefox when you can just get firefox
I strictly use the abbreviation FF for Final Fantasy

- so1980, on 06/15/2008, -1/+0nah. just use opera.
- Lane, on 06/15/2008, -1/+1That's what thumb drives are for, that and having the bootlegged version of windows on it in the first place.
- golvin, on 06/16/2008, -0/+0I have never used a Linux distro with IE built-in. ;)
- InRussetShadows, on 06/14/2008, -10/+147Someone mentioned Microsoft. Do they even make a browser anymore? :)
- zephyr42, on 06/14/2008, -4/+12I haven't used said browser since I found Avant when it *first* came out waaaaay back when.
- manitoba98xp, on 06/15/2008, -0/+4Doesn't Avant use Microsoft's Trident engine anyhow? So from a perspective of security, standards compliance, etc. (i.e. the main complaints against IE), aren't they the same?
- aussieNickuss, on 06/15/2008, -3/+26Yeah, it's this "product" called Internet Explorer. They get their unqualified interns to work on it in their spare time.
- Llanowar, on 06/15/2008, -0/+1I've heard the janitors do quite some work on it too.
- banmaster, on 06/15/2008, -7/+8Yeah, and its only got the vast marketshare out of all the browsers to itself. Trippling the use of all others combined.
- petebert, on 06/15/2008, -2/+1Zing!
- Greg2k, on 06/15/2008, -3/+2Yeah, it's actually rather good.
I use both IE7 and FF3 RC2, both are great browsers. So let's please stop complaining.- Greg2k, on 06/15/2008, -1/+1Sorry, I'm using IE8 Beta 1. It crashes less than FF3 RC2.

- robby007, on 06/15/2008, -0/+3as much as i would like to say yes. Its probably going to be released on America's Tuesday, not ours. :(
- gibler, on 06/15/2008, -0/+6Yes, we will be first to download?
- ConanTL, on 06/15/2008, -2/+9Will it count if I download it via APT (Debian)?
- twiztidsinz, on 06/15/2008, -0/+14No
You have to download it from the Mozilla site itself for it to count, updating through the browser doesnt work either.
Though thats not to say you cant download it from Mozilla, delete it and then obtain a compiled version from somwhere else.
Though might be faster to compile it yourself on release day rather than waiting for someone to compile it then submit it.- ConanTL, on 06/15/2008, -0/+6'tis true. Thanks
- twiztidsinz, on 06/15/2008, -0/+14No
- Sil369, on 06/15/2008, -78/+171I use Opera. Bury me bitches.
- terajoule, on 06/15/2008, -4/+40Nope. Not happening today. +1 digg for you.
- Zemnexx, on 06/15/2008, -2/+33No, I am going to participate in Download day, and a Firefox user myself, but in the spirit of friendly competition, I will dig you also.
- crownedgriffin, on 06/15/2008, -8/+29Digging you up with Opera. :O
- ufia, on 06/15/2008, -7/+125My Firefox can download more internets than your Opera.
- Vosona, on 06/15/2008, -24/+3My Opera can do the same ***** your fully addons-upgraded Firefox can without needing addons.
Also, digg for Sil :D- Drewnami, on 06/15/2008, -2/+10Can it mass-download, and block ads - and elements - without having to manually edit files?
I like Opera, but until it can match Firefox's extensibility, I'm sticking with Fx. - 30Seconds, on 06/15/2008, -4/+2Enjoy your memory leaks.
- fmorel90, on 06/15/2008, -1/+4until the 17th
- 4321234, on 06/15/2008, -0/+1I got Opera 9.5 and Firefox 3rc and no it can't.
But I like the widgets. But then I like all widgets.
- Drewnami, on 06/15/2008, -2/+10Can it mass-download, and block ads - and elements - without having to manually edit files?
- solidus636, on 06/15/2008, -7/+2I'll digg you up cause Opera still beats IE.
edit: crap, wrong thread.
- Vosona, on 06/15/2008, -24/+3My Opera can do the same ***** your fully addons-upgraded Firefox can without needing addons.
- ConfusedCartman, on 06/15/2008, -4/+20Opera is a damn good alternative, I used it for a while. +1
- Ghiren, on 06/15/2008, -10/+5Konqueror/Safari/IE(6 or lower) -> IE7 -> Firefox w/o extensions -> Opera -> Firefox w/ extensions
Firefox by itself isn't enough to compete with Opera but once you include add-ons, you can add any of the features that make Opera great and then some. I'll download FF3 when the final version comes out but I'll hold off on using it regularly until more of the extensions I use catch up to it.- Audacitor, on 06/15/2008, -1/+9I like your philosophy, stranger, but this one is better:
IE6/7 -> Konqueror/Safari -> FF2 -> FF3 w/o extensions -> Opera -> FF3 w/ extensions
- Audacitor, on 06/15/2008, -1/+9I like your philosophy, stranger, but this one is better:
- raydeen, on 06/15/2008, -1/+43As long as you're not using IE, you get dugg up.
- prophetpimp, on 06/15/2008, -3/+12dugg up because opera 9.5 is pretty sweet. But still FF 3 is better.
- prsurfer, on 06/15/2008, -11/+7Opera 9.5 is the best browser ever... www.opera.com
QUICKEST and Smartest... I ve used them all! - olezhka2k, on 06/15/2008, -9/+0Opera indeed, my friend. Downloaded 9.5, install + configuration took 10 min (including setting up IMAP mail). Good luck to Firefox users wasting June 17, 2008 of their life downloading extensions, then spending June, 18 searching forums to make them work. Phoenix was much better back in the day.
- Labut, on 06/15/2008, -0/+5Why can't we be friends? I know Opera has minority users but then you guys don't have to bemoaning Firefox all the time.
Show some respect. I'm a Firefox fan, I respect Opera and I wouldn't even bad-mouth Opera software. In fact, I would recommend them to anyone.
Be supportive and leave your negative comment to yourself. This goes also to all those Firefox fanboys and all fanboys alike.
- Labut, on 06/15/2008, -0/+5Why can't we be friends? I know Opera has minority users but then you guys don't have to bemoaning Firefox all the time.
- jebzaki, on 06/15/2008, -0/+6thumbs up! because its ok to be different than the rest of the world :D
- veggen, on 06/15/2008, -6/+4+1 from another Opera lover. I hate it when they make FF look like the only alternative.
- lilmoder, on 06/15/2008, -0/+2+1

- TeraRealm256, on 06/15/2008, -1/+5dugg for making me laugh!
- AlphaDuo, on 06/15/2008, -2/+4I use Opera on my mobile, but not on the computer where I use only firefox.
But from my great experience with the mobile version, I won't disagree with anyone that says it's the best browser on the PC too.
On that note, +1 digg for you.
- DonSlice, on 06/15/2008, -0/+21I'll download it.. but I might be a bit tied up with the Spore Creature Creator.
- Seth024, on 06/15/2008, -0/+2I'm sure you can already find the trial if you know where to look (tPB).

- iperalta, on 06/15/2008, -2/+9how long will it be before their servers are over loaded.
- prophetpimp, on 06/15/2008, -1/+4not gonna happen. google is chipping in with servers.

- nuno86, on 06/15/2008, -0/+28I bet firefox servers are going to be so FAST on June 17. Everyone downloading at the same time, awesome.
- aliguana, on 06/15/2008, -1/+3true dat. They'll probably be coming down the pipe at 2kps. Still... go off to work and leave it download. You can still use the RC, it's not like you're losing a days internets.
- redwallhp, on 06/15/2008, -1/+2You mean *Google* servers.
- Zemnexx, on 06/15/2008, -6/+9Firefox FTW!!!!!!!!!
- willdiggforfood, on 06/15/2008, -16/+8Screw Gecko. Long live WebKit!!!
- Audacitor, on 06/15/2008, -1/+5Wouldn't it be awesome if Gecko and WebKit merged? Seriously, more developers, not to mention the benefits of both engines.
- arandomperson, on 06/15/2008, -5/+0If they wanted people to do this, they shouldn't have automatically updated us from beta 5...
- alilhappything, on 06/15/2008, -5/+9Spread Firefox! A free and open internet is attainable!
- morpheus9602, on 06/15/2008, -10/+29wow, 258 people in North Korea will download it. Sounds like someone wants to break the law there.
8390 people in Iran. Must be some sort of underground. They even outnumber Saudi Arabia.
46 people in Lesotho, sounds like the entire population is represented there.
380 people in Cuba, that sounds about right since most people don't have a computer there.- DonSlice, on 06/15/2008, -2/+23Keep going. Please.
/sarcasm - NavtejS, on 06/15/2008, -9/+6258 people who claim to be from North Korea* I can be from South Africa if i want. ;)
- Arkonnan, on 06/15/2008, -1/+6Don't worry, more than enough fanboys will download multiple copies to artificially inflate the download count for months to come!
- DonSlice, on 06/15/2008, -2/+23Keep going. Please.
- ELiTe185, on 06/15/2008, -1/+58I just hope everyone remembers this:
"What qualifies as an official download of Firefox?
A "download" is the transmission of the entire, fully functioning Firefox 3 -- not an update."- crimson117, on 06/15/2008, -3/+1Every Firefox update is the full version. They don't release patches.
- bradg2, on 06/15/2008, -4/+15But if everybody has Firefox....I won't be l337
- RyeBrye, on 06/15/2008, -10/+5There's always Opera.
- fredmv, on 06/15/2008, -1/+18There's always Lynx.

- RyeBrye, on 06/15/2008, -10/+5There's always Opera.
- Grungitude, on 06/15/2008, -1/+11I'll be downloading FF3 on the 17th, but I wonder who currently owns the record, and how many downloads they had.
- HigherLogic, on 06/15/2008, -1/+10No one does. It's a non-existent record. Nothing but marketing.
"In a somewhat corny approach, Mozilla is urging its users to joint regional download fests, pledging to get Firefox 3 and spreading the word. Consider it the Super Bowl of browser downloading. The rub: There is no download record compiled by Guinness."
http://blogs.zdnet.com/BTL/?p=8935- Grungitude, on 06/15/2008, -0/+8Ah I see. Thanks for the reply, and the link. +1. I'll gladly subject myself to Firefox's marketing then lol.

For the melissa virus.
- HigherLogic, on 06/15/2008, -1/+10No one does. It's a non-existent record. Nothing but marketing.
- thegreypilgrim, on 06/15/2008, -0/+15What time zone is the 24hr download period in? Tuesday somewhere in the U.S. I guess?
- aliguana, on 06/15/2008, -0/+6thats what I was wondering too. If you take timezones into consideration, by the time it's Tuesday evening in the US it will be the Wednesday in Japan and Australia.. does it still count? Someone needs to clarify this.
- enterneo, on 06/15/2008, -0/+1good question, being in India, it would be Wednesday for me then!
- HollisJamison, on 06/15/2008, -0/+1When ever Firefox 3 gets released, at what ever time the record time starts, 24 hours later it ends. Theres no time zones to worry about, Tuesday is the day it will be released in America, it could be Wednesday somewhere else by the time it gets released but that doesn't really matter, it's not the most in one day its the most in one 24 hour period.
- Niz1, on 06/15/2008, -1/+7hmm can we crash firefox servers?
- banmaster, on 06/15/2008, -0/+7Only one way to find out...
- Trax91, on 06/15/2008, -0/+3Yes we can! Vote for change!
(Had to... just had to...)
- lianliming, on 06/15/2008, -0/+3Be sure to contribute my effort for the downloading record!
- metaphzle, on 06/15/2008, -0/+2Deff in this, have been using the beta 3 for a while. ;)

- Compserd, on 06/15/2008, -5/+3Firefox 3 FTW!
- lochness, on 06/15/2008, -6/+14So is this 24 hours an Americentric 24 hours, so that the rest of the world has to manage it's downloads around the USA to make sure they count ? Luckily we're smart enough to do that... and cope with the devastating logic of the metric system, and other such oddities...
By rights if they are doing it properly it should be from 00:00 GMT to 23:99 GMT on the 17th...- gibler, on 06/15/2008, -0/+14Yes, living in a timezone that is 12 hours (13 when daylight savings is on) ahead of GMT you can find lots of odd stuff. Quite often you find websites that won't accept your current date as they think you are posting from the future.
- banmaster, on 06/15/2008, -0/+13But I *DO* post from the future. I'm writing this comment a week from next wednesday.
- IllBeBack, on 06/15/2008, -13/+4I guess when your country is the most powerful in the world, we will all adjust to your timezone. Until then, you can tone down the smug remarks a bit.
At least 3 or 4 of us in the USA are also smart enough to figure out such mind-numbing concepts as time zone offsets and the metric system.
"manage it's downloads"
Some us of idiots in the USA even know when to use the correct "its" in their sentences. Apparently you do not.- kevinkitching, on 06/15/2008, -1/+1Nice. Really. Way to participate.
The correct word here is 'their', no "it's" anyhow.- IllBeBack, on 06/16/2008, -0/+1Looks like your writing skills are phenomenal as well. Idiot.
What the hell was your second sentence supposed to be trying to say?
- IllBeBack, on 06/16/2008, -0/+1Looks like your writing skills are phenomenal as well. Idiot.
- kevinkitching, on 06/15/2008, -1/+1Nice. Really. Way to participate.
- batTUrd, on 06/15/2008, -0/+13Your hours have 100 minutes in them?!
- redwallhp, on 06/15/2008, -0/+5Yeah, because everyone else has metric time, right? /joke
- mattus, on 06/15/2008, -0/+5I'm no fan of Americentricism, but in this case those Americans do make the damn thing, so they probably have the right to release it in the daytime!
- mchugh22, on 06/15/2008, -0/+1well we do have a ***** of people downloading it.
- drakia, on 06/15/2008, -0/+3Why the ***** are you complaining? It's a 24 hour period, meaning at SOME POINT during that 24 hours, it'll be daylight in whatever ***** country you live in!
- 4321234, on 06/15/2008, -0/+1Because there's not any actual countries in the area around the south pole. (winter down there now)

- duckyinc, on 06/15/2008, -11/+6Another publicity stunt? I guess the auto update function failed then..
- kotatsu, on 06/15/2008, -5/+5Of course I'll get it and use it, but it's really too bad that for Windows users the new Firefox default skin is so damn ugly.
- aliguana, on 06/15/2008, -1/+5looks fine to me. Download a skin if you don't like it.
- Awspire, on 06/15/2008, -6/+2Firefox's default skin is pathetic, and the user donated skins are even worse. With the friggin millions Mozilla makes off of Firefox, you would think they could have hired some pro's to give it a sleek look for this release. At least Microsoft will spend some money on their GUI, yet Mozilla takes from the community, makes millions, and typically gives nothing back.
- ElBeh, on 06/15/2008, -0/+3That's total *****, Awspire. Simplicity is not at all ugliness. I suppose you think everything Google makes it ugly, too?
And if you think everything's so ugly on FireFox, make your own damned skin.- 4321234, on 06/15/2008, -0/+2It places the lotion in the basket....
