Four Ways Google Could Destroy Digg (After Buying it)
inquisitr.com — With news that Google is alleged once again to be close to acquiring Digg, some may suggest that the future of the popular social voting destination is assured. But looking at Google ’s list of acquisitions, it is anything but. Here’s four ways Google could destroy Digg as we currently know it.
- 259 diggs
- digg it
- YouGotDugg, on 07/23/2008, -3/+6They need to leave it alone. Don't try and fix it if it ain't broke.
- optimusprime01, on 07/23/2008, -3/+5Duncan Riley ( ex- tech crunch writer) has strike again. He has valid 4 points which are Stagnation, Unloved, Ignoring existing customers and Spam trap. Also Digg can be destroyed if it's integrated into google news because it will beat the purpose digg was started for, user submitted content, while google news is a news aggregator not controlled by users. Plus what effects digg crew is doing now to comply with digg users like, adding photos section, adding videos section, fixing commenting system, if digg goes to google it will be a while before any user request is heard and is complied with.
Let's hope for the best, both for digg and diggers. - poploserdigg, on 07/23/2008, -5/+8I, for one, welcome our new Google overlords.
If it pisses of the Diggidiots, I'm all for it. - upick, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3At the end of the day Goggle buys everything I'm not surprised that Google will one day control the internet and all information... This was pretty much their original aim in the first place

- u8muhrice, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Seriously, I honestly if Google owns Digg, then I wouldnt be surprise with the fact that they will own most of the internet. Like upick said, all of our information and even interests will be available to them.
- spywire, on 07/23/2008, -2/+0seriously, booooooo.
- StephnDolenc, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2i say reddit would be cheaper and they wouldn't have to deal with crappy users like me : )
- spywire, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1i wonder if an ad company would buy a site whose main users are a bunch of ad-blocking dudes (and fake gals??)....
- UltramegaOK, on 07/23/2008, -2/+1Buried for meaningless speculation.
- TheMachine1, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3I used DejaNews a lot before Google bought it(it became google groups). I'm not going to completely blame Google for destroying its usefulness but Google certainly did not do what was needed to save web based news groups. So that lead to people building better versions like Slashdot, Digg and the enormous number of narrow interest web forums. If they would have better executed there never would have been a Digg. Which means they can certainly destroy Digg as they did DejaNews.
