Google In Negotiations To Acquire Digg For “Around $200M"
techcrunch.com — Google’s on and off negotiations with Digg have been back on in a big way for the last six weeks, we ’ve heard from multiple sources inside of Google, and the two companies are close to a deal that will bring Digg under the Google News property. The acquisition price is in the $200 million range, says one source.
- 4105 diggs
- digg it
- MasterJoefus, on 07/22/2008, -4/+374and so the Google Empire expands to consume the vast reaches of the internet.
- PilotHead, on 07/22/2008, -6/+35Soon Google Earth can view what Diggers are doing =(
- fyngyrz, on 07/23/2008, -2/+42It's not all bad -- maybe Google can finally fix the posting system so that you can use formatting like bold and italic and quoting, so that there's a *separate* mechanism for "disagree" as compared to :lousy post:, so that threading isn't limited to just a few levels, so that searching for a comment you made will work even if the leading comments in the thread are hidden, so that digging a post down doesn't hide it... you know, so that digg would actually work WELL.
- MScrip, on 07/23/2008, -6/+84I'd settle for a posting system that doesn't make my CPU spike up to 100% or freeze my browser while loading comments.
It's freakin' text people! - aywwts4, on 07/23/2008, -5/+19Don't digg MScrip down unless you are browsing on a 1.5 ghz processor or less. And no, Its not always as easy as "buy a better computer" work, school, hand held devices, older laptops. They should all be completely usable on any webpage that isn't loaded with flash.
- javaroast, on 07/23/2008, -1/+26I'm pretty sure Google Earth can't see in your mother's basement... yet
- wallish, on 07/23/2008, -7/+2@fyngyrz
You want Digg to become Reddit? - NodOfficer, on 07/23/2008, -6/+2Google would just have to buy some spy satellites from the NSA or other obscure 3-letter government agency.
- TheMidnight, on 07/23/2008, -1/+7Oh great, so now you'll be able to see me surf digg on my Ubuntu Asus EEE laptop, whack it to cartoon porn on my iPhone while I'm drinking Mountain Dew and blogging for Obama and posting Internet memes that are a thousand years old to comment forums while I'm in my Mom's basement watching a pirated version of Dark Knight.
- Justice101, on 07/23/2008, -1/+2@ javaroast
Tera hertz scanning satellites? If anyone's got them, it's Google. - thatsmyaibo, on 07/23/2008, -2/+4Diggers actually do things? I highly doubt Google is interested in seeing a bunch of 14 year old guys with xbox headsets on while masturbating with a hand covered in Cheeto dust.
- rmxz, on 07/23/2008, -11/+48Please, Digg, give us users the option of deleting our personally identifiable data before transferring the data to them.
I don't trust Google's privacy policy, and aren't very excited about them knowing everything about me that Digg knew.
Or at least I might be if I had honestly filled out the information like name, birthday, location, etc (all stuff in Digg's profile), and then made a comment critical of any government's policy (say, China's if I ever visit there - since I know they like asking the for data from companies like Google; or the NeoCon's if they come back again here; or if the RIAA or MPAA can force or bribe Google to give them data).
But in either case, I think we'd appreciate it if you gave us the option to clear all archived data before giving it to them.- jsully, on 07/23/2008, -7/+73You don't trust Google's privacy policy, but you trust Digg's?
- thebza451, on 07/23/2008, -4/+16i see tin foil hats!
- digichris, on 07/23/2008, -9/+23Are you aware of what it takes to even attempt to get an interview for a job at google? I'm pretty sure you need a bachelor's degree just to get a janitorial position there. There are some of the world's smartest individuals working for Google; who have families just like us, and like their privacy just like we do. Google is not a greedy health care organization, Google is not Cybernet from the Terminator movies. Or even worse, Google isn't Foxnews. Please take off your tin-foil hats, . I will admit tho, AI (Artificial Intelligence) does kinda worry me. But that's not for years ahead (according to technology experts around the year 2029?).
- fas2, on 07/23/2008, -1/+18I honestly thought the same thing. If Digg became part of Google (or any other company for that matter), it would only be fair to give us the option to request complete deletion of ones profile. Not everyone has to feel comfortable changing ownership.
- MosX, on 07/23/2008, -8/+13You sound like a nut.

skynet - Myztry, on 07/23/2008, -1/+3Privacy Policies aren't a great concern. I lie on each and every form I fill in.
The * (required) fields are rarely relevant and are nothing but enforced data collection.
They can force collect data, but every database I'm in is tainted.
So are the statistics derived from them. They can use them for the good it does,
or they might as well generate random responses. It would be equally valid. - smthop3, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3What the hell can Google do with your information that they can't already? I can go to neaveru, Digg comment statistics and get all your comments, or click on your name and get all your digging trends..and ANYONE can do that. What do you think Google will do with your birthday and location (location NOT being your exact address), mail you a Birthday card? Too many people lie on those anyway for them to specifically use it against you in whatever scheme you think they're plotting.
- XBSHX, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Cybernet? Is that Skynets non-self aware twin?
- qetuo, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1I don't know if i will want to use digg if google owns it. I already don't use Google to search. Google is quickly becoming the only provider of services, because they are buying the competitions. If there is only one choice there is no competitions, and there for it is bad for everyone.
I know i will be dugg down by google fan-boys but what i am saying is correct. - Myztry, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Google. Whatever. I only use them because they work for me.
I could always use Live Search, as it arguably works better for the advertiser.
But I'm not an advertiser. If I wanted ad spam, I'd join mailing lists...
- pin0chet, on 07/23/2008, -7/+13All empires fall, and Google is no exception. Mark my words, one day our Mountain View overlords will succumb to the same fate as the AOLs, AltaVistas, and Yahoos of the world.
That's the beauty of high contestable markets. Dominance is, at best, short-lived.- DocGlass, on 07/23/2008, -2/+21The world isn't a fairy tail, why do all you puds act like Google is good/evil? Its just a market force that happens to do positive things and negative things to make money.
- AROZ, on 07/23/2008, -0/+18It's too early to even say "Google will fall" when they're still building that "empire". They can still go very far.
- rudieboy, on 07/23/2008, -1/+11What ever happened to netscape and lycos?
- burketo, on 07/23/2008, -1/+8yeah, google will fall just like microsoft did..... oh wait.

- thatsmyaibo, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3The only difference is that Google is reaching more markets and adapts to the web trends. They won't be crumbling any time soon.
- Cuchanu, on 07/23/2008, -2/+14The Empire seems to have more money than they know what to do with. They aren't even bothering to create their own stuff they just wait for somebody else to do it then they buy it.

- ronjohn, on 07/23/2008, -0/+4So why reinvent the wheel
- m3mn0n, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Everyone can make what other sites have. Do you think it's technologically impossible for Google to build a digg clone?
It's about the community, brand, traffic, ad dollars, etc.
Digg has this. A new Google clone wouldn't. That's why they buy companies. Same with Yahoo or Microsoft. - Cuchanu, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1@m3mn0n
I know google could build a digg clone but my point is that they aren't at the forefront anymore. They are not buying tech they are buying everything you mentioned, because they weren't there in the first place.

- NikkiA, on 07/22/2008, -11/+3Yay, Google will buy Digg, then Digg signups will go closed, just as Digg is needed to compete with failing competition sites.
See Jaiku for an example of how this works. - jotate, on 07/22/2008, -8/+218Yeah, because Google buying Youtube really ruined its dominance.
Oh wait, it didn't.
And when Viacom sued them, they totally turned over all the user data.
Oh wait, they didn't.
I'm just saying, if you're going to get behind a corporation, Google's a pretty ethically sound choice at that point.- fas2, on 07/23/2008, -18/+7You should be aware of what it means to hold such amounts of personal data of millions of people. They might be ethically sound now, but you never know what the future holds.
For example, it would not be the first time in history that a crap load of personal data leaks from big companies. Remember AOL?

When were AOL EVER ethically sound? - dignan2681, on 07/23/2008, -1/+20Well they did offer me a free trial...
wait, did i remember to cancel that?
crap - dagnome1984, on 07/23/2008, -9/+3Google willingly bent over backwards to censor their search results in order to get access in China. If they are willing to compromise on their principle of do no evil, than really the motto means absolutely nothing.
- RodEffect, on 07/23/2008, -1/+6do you think that depriving a billion chinese people from ANY access to google services and the wealth of knowledge and the effect on our daily lives they give is the best option?
if you gave me the choice of not being able to use google at all, and not being able to access Tienanmen square in google images i know which i'd pick. - Pittance, on 07/23/2008, -2/+2If they compromise this time, then how are we to ever know if they are censoring our search results? What if the future (hopefully not) McCain administration pressures google to censor Bush war crime searches? They could do so without ever telling us and if they were ever found out, they would have a precedent with China to fall back on. Its a dangerous game to compromise on your ideals.
- Verz, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3Google still has to follow national laws, as wacky as you may think they are. What if Google returned child porn results in the US?
- fas2, on 07/23/2008, -18/+7You should be aware of what it means to hold such amounts of personal data of millions of people. They might be ethically sound now, but you never know what the future holds.
- pin0chet, on 07/23/2008, -2/+125You're wrong. Every time a popular independent site gets acquired, people claim "big evil corporations are crushing the little guy and will soon control the interweb" but they assume the market is static, which is false.
News Corp scooped up MySpace--but then Facebook took off, turning MySpace into a sideshow.
Sourceforge bought Slashdot, then Digg came along, eclipsing Slashdot's traffic within a matter of months.
That's the beauty of the diigtal marketplace--you simply CAN"T consolidate power, because all it takes is a couple guys in a garage with a smart algorithm to reshake the industry. Users are fickle, and the "latest thing" is what matters--not having all the cash.
If Microsoft can't buy its way to the top of the online ad market, even with its tens of billions of cash on hand, then nobody can.- philz, on 07/23/2008, -1/+30I totally agree. This is exactly why IT is so much cooler than many other industries:
Everything is faster, you can reach the masses within weeks, days or even hours (digg ftw) and often it does not cost you alot to prove your concept. And when it's proven, it's worth money and you get it - not the VCs. - gullevek, on 07/23/2008, -2/+16I wouldn't compare slashdot to digg. Slashdot sticked with it's tech news way. Digg is my tabloid read. Where I can find out about all the really important news from back-land Arizona or some other place I'll never see in my life. Where else would I get my daily dose of 10 things to do not do to or why some things are cool or not cool.
- scubaninja, on 07/23/2008, -1/+7Funny though, I trust News Corp with my privacy more than I trust Facebook. Not because News Corp is so great, but just because Facebook's privacy record is so abysmal.
- aeoo, on 07/23/2008, -7/+3"That's the beauty of the diigtal marketplace--you simply CAN"T consolidate power, because all it takes is a couple guys in a garage with a smart algorithm to reshake the industry."
There is *some* truth in this. But it's not totally true. We don't know what future holds. Depending on how things turn out, it's possible the corps will lobby to raise the barrier to entry. For example, imagine domain registration at 100k per year? Where will bloggers and diggs and reddits be then? And it's kind of happening anyway, as many domain names are off the market, unused, parked, waiting for ransom.
So, what you're saying is sort of true, but not in a way that makes it nice for us in every case. The guy you are replying to has a good point about selling out. Value of things drops after the "sell out". Pay attention to Konfabulator being purchase by yahoo. It went straight to *****. Youtube has become less popular after being purchased, as the competing services took off with better video and less censorship.
But, the point is this. If every single site is just hoping for a "liquidity event" then we are doomed in practice, no matter what the market potential is in theory. Free market depends on someone, somewhere refusing to sell out. If no one refuses the sell out, there is no more free market as the market consolidates to broadcast one voice owned by the richest interest.
Selling out is a terrible thing. A sell out is a ***** person. We should not respect sell outs because they ruin our culture for selfish pseudo-gain. - otros, on 07/23/2008, -0/+9@aeoo
I'm not completly sure if for you "sell out" is the same that just selling, and what would be the difference. If it isn't then your last point is ridiculous, when you sell they don't kill you, and not everyone will take they 100m and go home, they just go and create something else.
Selling out is not terrble, it's just one of the things that keep innovation happen. Sure, I could create something just for the sake of it, but I would be more motivated if there's a golden pot in the end ef the rainbow. I don't think that just me.
- philz, on 07/23/2008, -1/+30I totally agree. This is exactly why IT is so much cooler than many other industries:
- Apocalyptic0n3, on 07/23/2008, -1/+17Yes, because Engadget and the rest of the Weblog, Inc. blogs went completely downhill the second AOL took them over. Riiight.

- fuzzmeister, on 07/22/2008, -4/+92"the two companies are close to a deal that will bring Digg under the Google News property. "
That concerns me. I hope they don't sacrifice the digg brand and feel.- diggrnumber1, on 07/22/2008, -1/+44They didn't do anything to mess up YouTube. In fact, it's better now since you can link your youtube account with your google account. The comments were always crap, even before google bought it.
- WiseWeasel, on 07/23/2008, -4/+4Last thing I would want to do is link my Digg account with the searches I do on Google. I like giving Google as little identifying information as possible, considering their incredibly broad reach, and while I've kept my Digg account relatively anonymous as well, it sucks that I would have to link it with my Google cookie and tie those two identities from that point forward. The more online identities get linked together by a single web property, the easier it is to associate them with your real life identity as bits of identifying information slip through and accumulate.
I would not want to make it easy for someone to link any of my online activity with my real identity, since that would remove the freedom to express myself without fear of affecting my meatspace life. Therefore, it's always worrying to see this type of consolidation in the services I use in the context of different identities, and although I have personally been relatively careful to shield my actual identity from all my online activities, I know some have not had such foresight, and might find their real life identities increasingly exposed to scrutiny over their informal online activities as these different sites come under common control. - theandyj, on 07/23/2008, -8/+1Why are you so afraid to say who you are... who cares if people know what you believe or think.
- Kyan, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1theandyj, it's not just (or even) about some big nefarious corporate plan. Laptops with data get lost all the time and identity theft is a real problem.
- WiseWeasel, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1@theandyj: Because a prospective employer or associate might not be so forgiving of the things I might say under assumed cover of anonymity.

- derceto, on 07/23/2008, -0/+28Affect.

http://xkcd.com/326/ - PunkRampant, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2affect (verb) to change
mark076h is correct. "How would this *change* diggnation?"
effect (verb) to cause
xkcd is also correct. "I think that our foreign policy *causes* the situation."
- CAPSLOCKISCOOL, on 07/23/2008, -2/+13Don't be so sure about that.
- web2pointYo, on 07/23/2008, -6/+8It would make it a show featuring the top stories on digg.com hosted by one very rich guy, and some other annoying dude.
- geekoid, on 07/23/2008, -0/+10After the buyout it'll be called Indiggnation...!
- uptown, on 07/23/2008, -2/+2more bling?
- bajan, on 07/22/2008, -27/+2I`ve been a habitual digg user and supporter (though various ad clicks) for about two years (officially registered Jan 07) and have never commented (other than 1 unknown article) on a story but for this I have to say something...plain n simple..
If Digg is bought by Google I will no longer visit it.
My few clicks on ads probably mean nothing in the entire scope of their revenues nor my one digg on an article but IMHO ill keep my search engine separate from my news source. I would do the same if Microsoft or Yahoo was buying.- neonoodle, on 07/22/2008, -1/+17And everyone will miss you.
- TheMachine1, on 07/22/2008, -0/+2Big business gets a bad rap but guess what smaller companies are just a slimy.
- AntzNZ, on 07/23/2008, -0/+8Digg, your news source?
- bradysdaman, on 07/23/2008, -1/+1Seriously, if you are using digg as your news source, you need to go crawl in a corner and die. All these stories are biased and there is certainly a place for that, just not a good place to get your news. I don't understand the link between a news site and a search engine and why they would have to be separate, that doesn't even make sense.
- unitedatheism, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1How long have you been contributing to digg with all this whine?
We will certainly miss you.
- dawalker, on 07/22/2008, -22/+1 A marriage made in nazi heaven. Digg and Google are censorious, left wing whores and they don't even have to breed...Digg has already propagated a ready made bastard family of nazi diggettes.
- SocialPoison, on 07/22/2008, -2/+11That was a terribly executed troll.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.- dawalker, on 07/23/2008, -3/+1no sweetheart, that was my opinion and I seriously doubt that you'd know a damn thing about souls- or god
for that matter.

- nixr, on 07/23/2008, -0/+39That happens enough already....
- AlexWiggy, on 07/22/2008, -1/+40We wouldn't notice a difference, just like when Google gained power of Youtube.
The only thing I worry about is the life of Diggnation should this transaction take place.- TheInfinityZero, on 07/22/2008, -1/+2Exactly!
My siblings still don't know that their favorite Old Granny's Buffet is actually owned by Old Country Buffet, which they hate. - brownr21, on 07/23/2008, -7/+1Except for the whole thing where YouTube hasn't changed one bit for the better since Google bought them. Oh yeah and Hulu is taking over for any videos worth watching.
- TheInfinityZero, on 07/23/2008, -0/+0But another site trying to take over YouTube is like Vans and such other shoes trying to overtake Nike: even if they /are/ better, the likelihood of their taking over is quite low.
- TheInfinityZero, on 07/22/2008, -1/+2Exactly!
- optimusprime01, on 07/22/2008, -8/+20So google is buying a fancy web directory i mean digg for $200M. Let's be real i don't think all users we have currently active on digg will be active once digg is sold, i hope not, but thats just what i am thinking. It will be great for digg to be in google's hand for the long time and finally digg creators and crew will be rewarded for their hard work.
Google recently did try to recreate what digg has, e.g. user based voting and social networking into it's search results and i guess since that didn't fly (link below,)
http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/07/16/is-this-the-f ...
http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/07/16/google-contin ...
so why not buy a popular and addictive news aggregation website/ social bookmarking website/web directory ( web directory because of link submission) with all the user base.
I wish digg crew and diggers all the best. Either way i will love digg because they will be many digg wanna be and clones but there always be one and original digg.com- squidreturns, on 07/23/2008, -0/+10One and original digg.com? You mean the one and original ripoff of Slashdog, Fark, and the rest?
- truspect0r, on 07/23/2008, -1/+1LOL SLASHDOG
- squidreturns, on 07/23/2008, -0/+10One and original digg.com? You mean the one and original ripoff of Slashdog, Fark, and the rest?
- airwalkery2k, on 07/22/2008, -3/+44This being a social network and all, being popular because of users, what percentage of this 200 Mill do I get? I mean, I have made several very witty comments in the past.
- Onyxblaze, on 07/23/2008, -0/+14you get to keep using the site

- neonoodle, on 07/22/2008, -5/+310Man, with YouTube and Digg under the Google umbrella, Google will have control over every idiot on the internet!
- sovereign3, on 07/22/2008, -1/+41Only after they acquire Yahoo! Answers.
- Ablue, on 07/23/2008, -2/+20how is babby formed?
- chirax, on 07/23/2008, -5/+2Yahoo answers are lame, I mean a more dumb then Miss Hilton. There are freaking questions like "Mosquitoes Have a Purpose" to "Can lightening strike computers, leave a pink tint on screen?" so I guess they should go one one category below idiots that is "Dumb as a rock" then we won't have to worry about the Yahoo Answers !!!
- aflaks, on 07/22/2008, -0/+12id digg you twice for that if i could
- norbiu, on 07/23/2008, -3/+16By idiot, did you mean virgin?
- ThatGeek, on 07/23/2008, -1/+48did they buy 4chan yet?
- poploserdigg, on 07/23/2008, -1/+6Greatest. Digg Comment. Ever.

- iPoul, on 07/23/2008, -0/+0You should get a cut of this deal.
Dugg for best comment ever. - rkuchiki, on 07/23/2008, -0/+7Google doesn't own MySpace, they'd have a way to go for "every idiot" :)
- X9001, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1No they have not acquired 4chan yet
- ozid, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1It's funny that you got dug up for saying that. I'd digg you up, but that would be very much like smacking myself, i thinks.
- sovereign3, on 07/22/2008, -1/+41Only after they acquire Yahoo! Answers.
- bweltondav, on 07/22/2008, -2/+46I know most people are probably all about Digg staying independent, but of all the major tech companies that could afford to buy it, I'd prefer Google. They're famous for /never/ canning any of their projects, and they don't really have a history of manipulating any of their properties for the worse.
Plus, (for those of us who don't use adblock) the flashing banner-type ads would be replaced by low-profile adsense ads.- TheNeptune, on 07/23/2008, -1/+7"They're famous for /never/ canning any of their projects, and they don't really have a history of manipulating any of their properties for the worse."
They haven't been around long enough to really can any projects, but a lot of them aren't profitable and it's starting to show when you look at their profit margins. Expects cuts. - scubaninja, on 07/23/2008, -1/+7There are ads on Digg?
- diggit08, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1orkut?
- TheNeptune, on 07/23/2008, -1/+7"They're famous for /never/ canning any of their projects, and they don't really have a history of manipulating any of their properties for the worse."
- neil1492, on 07/22/2008, -4/+33I would rather have Digg sold to Google than to Microsoft.

- raisedinhell, on 07/23/2008, -2/+14can we get off the mothers, cus i just got off yours
- y0urcl0ne, on 07/23/2008, -0/+12Its their masterplan to take over the world.
They'll shut down the entire internet for one week, while they make their demands. - Naieve, on 07/23/2008, -0/+4It's actually a Walmart plan to take control of the Internet.
GoogleMart, coming to state near you. - tnoy, on 07/23/2008, -1/+2Newsflash: Google's greatest accomplishment is making you think that they're not evil.
- tightscrummy, on 07/22/2008, -6/+15Your mother. Head.
- MavRevMatt, on 07/22/2008, -8/+7Damn I hope this doesn't happen. What good could Google possibly do with Digg?
- insinuate, on 07/23/2008, -2/+14make millions from advertising?
- MavRevMatt, on 07/23/2008, -0/+10But they could simply do a deal with Digg rather than buy them. And don't they realise that most Diggers use ABP?
- tnoy, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2Based on the comments, the majority of digg users use adblock.
- Commonwealth, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2I don't think most Diggers have adblock, I just think most Diggers with adblock love to say "Digg has ads!?!?!" It's Hilarious every time!
- BDOUG, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Huzzah for Firefox + ad block
- insinuate, on 07/23/2008, -2/+14make millions from advertising?

- Crath, on 07/22/2008, -8/+6at least its not yahoo or microsoft
- vatosplace, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1I thought Yahoo would buy it to replace the discuss feature.
- kyleokeefe, on 07/22/2008, -2/+22Now Kevin Rose can't say "I don't actually have 33 million"
- iknowbob, on 07/22/2008, -8/+2diggoontite
- TheGhostMan, on 07/22/2008, -8/+1I think google just took over the interwebs.

- MillionsLivio, on 07/23/2008, -1/+4That is actually relevant for a change...
- kalvinb, on 07/22/2008, -9/+24Only $200 Million?
- McMaster88, on 07/23/2008, -4/+8I was thinking closer to 7-900million...
- TheNeptune, on 07/23/2008, -1/+24You're nuts, this site is worthless. Most of the users use adblock.
- 88chrisb, on 07/23/2008, -0/+5Digg has ads?
- McMaster88, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1The ads don't bother me...I just don't even acknowledge them.
- tech42er, on 07/23/2008, -5/+6it's OVER 9000!!!
- bobsil1, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Fifteen billion.
- McMaster88, on 07/23/2008, -4/+8I was thinking closer to 7-900million...
- theotheragentm, on 07/22/2008, -0/+12Maybe the ad placement won't be so off. No more Scientology ads on anti-scientology posts or how about no more Scientology ads, period.
- fullphaser, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3You seem to forget, Scientology has more money than we do + Scientology's ads are coming through the google ad service to begin with.
- Niih, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Yup, once I had to stare at a Scientology ad "You've heard the rumors, now check the facts" during one hour on youtube; Even if I changed and changed and changed the videos, the ad would remain the same... Quite disturbing...
Plus for all those saying that Google never cans any project, I'd like to point out that they laid off a quarter of double click employees after the buy off; I just hope it won't be the same with digg...
- smackythefrog, on 07/22/2008, -8/+13Well, looks like Digg will soon become a site I leave when every damn person I know knows about it. There's an essence to knowing the info. on here and not just telling your friends about Digg so that they can catch up too. The interesting stuff on here usually doesn't make it to these guys which makes it nice to bring it up in conversation. But now, with Google putting it into everything it owns, ***** it.
- mrloci, on 07/23/2008, -2/+5boohoo baby want the news
- tech42er, on 07/23/2008, -2/+5Digg's been pretty mainstream for a while now, buddy.
- mrdog, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1not really, it hasnt cracked the top 100 sites yet, its very small
- Haxxormaster, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2"There's an essence to knowing the info."
I, as a redditor, laughed.
- agsinger, on 07/22/2008, -4/+15better google make the acquisition than news corp
- esquire360, on 07/22/2008, -2/+63maybe they can fix the digg algorithm

- SpykerSpeed, on 07/22/2008, -3/+26I can't wait to see the new Diggnation episodes after Kevin's liquidity event. He'll probably be in some huge mansion with a killer AV setup.
- digg0t, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2too bad he sold a major stake in the company to get his venture capital. He probably would have less than a 35% stake now
- canyonblue, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2that's still 70 million dollars...
- Eanix, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Spyker, don't forget the expensive imported booze!

I will stop using Digg if they are sold.- MtheoryX, on 07/23/2008, -0/+5It'll happen, so you can go ahead and just stop using it now.
We won't mind.

Digg == Obama
Obama == President
Digg == Google
Google == President
Google is truly going to rule the World.- McMaster88, on 07/23/2008, -2/+5they already run it, why stop at that?
- bevans, on 07/23/2008, -0/+7wtf?
- dafragsta, on 07/23/2008, -7/+2Your equation is way off, and while what you are saying has some legitimacy, I think you are overlooking the fact that even if Digg had an influence on the outcome of the election (I'd generously offer up 5% of the voters as having gotten the bulk of their information through the Digg trough), Digg is probably less corrupt than the current US electoral process, which means we also heard a lot about great candidates that didn't make it anywhere near the top. Barack Obama wwas just the only viable one. I think you'll find that a great percentage of Diggers were also Ron Paul, Mike Gravel, and Dennis Kucinich supporters. Most of those voters naturally fell in line hen they got blackballed and all that was left was Barack "Bilderberg" Obama vs *****, so I think you are getting ahead of yourself.
Obama wins this one, but I have suspicions that Hillary and Obama have been playing good cop bad cop all along just to keep it interesting, not really caring who wins or loses, knowing only that the drama of the political theater would have everyone pumped up. I know people love to see one word (conspiracy) always followed by another (theory) but when Bilderberg puts out press-*****-releases and guest lists available upon request, they aren't exactly the god damned Illuminati. They are crying out to the world that they exist, they are rubbing your nose in ***** by inviting your politicians to make policies with foreign politicians and your superiors behind closed with ***** ninjas on patrol and there is no public record of anything that was said, which is illegal.
OK, the ninjas part was a bit of a stretch, but it ***** kills me that this is happening out in the open. Whether or not there was some Illuminati ***** happening with Obama, Hillary and some Bilderbergers meeting nearby, after he ditched a plane full of press who were told he would be on board that Thursday heading back to Chicago is not as important as the fact that the head of his vice presidential selection committee, Jim Johnson was a noted-on-the-*****-guestlist Bilderberger and resigned from that committee the following Monday.
To make a long story short, you're so right, and you are so wrong. - thatsmyaibo, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2You = idiot
