Google sends blogger aspirin after complaining about Google headaches
marketingpilgrim.com — After writing a blog post titled “Dear Google, You’re Giving Me a Headache”, Google sent the author a small pack of acetaminophen, with a message saying "I hope this helps you keep up with the many Adwords changes."

Yesh, because a Google Op showed up at his house and forced him to down the bottle of acetaminophen against his will. - thegreyfox, on 10/12/2007, -7/+58Since we are on Dear Google subject.
Dear Google,
Could i please get some Google Stock. - Shilly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+89I am actually the article writer and I thought it was hilarious also, and no, I am not allergic. If I was allergic, I simply wouldn't take the meds :)
Al Scillitani - NJank, on 10/12/2007, -2/+35aspirin is not acetaminophen. and vice versa. no murder charges here.

Actually, had you read the previous article by the blogger, you would realize that he had specifically requested the acetaminophen, thus Google would be guilty of nothing.

- djjoemex, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Dear Google, wish to see more than 1000 search results. Why, because Many old web pages in geocities and angelfire contain many valuable information. 10 years ago I found a lot of information of web rings of mythology communities, and many people still have geocities accounts today. I am talking about 2500 to 4500 web pages that I will never see because your search engine does not support more than 1000 search results. Is that a lot to ask for? Plz reply
- bryxal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Am i the only one who noticed that on the original blog he asks for acetaminophen (Tylenol) but the picture on top is of Ibuprofen (Advil). Maybe I should get out more....
- Anth741, on 10/12/2007, -4/+176Brilliant PR move. Google understands how this sort of thing spreads on web communities such as digg and for a 5 minute act of kindness millions of people can say 'oh Google is such a nice company'.
I hope this wasn't the case, perhaps they were just being nice, but either way there kind or brilliant. Or both.- avsa, on 10/12/2007, -6/+39Is it? I guess it was more intended as a inner joke between a google employee and a blogger (that he probably knew). I don't think a move that could be interpreted as an ironic "the problem is not our, it's all in your head" or a sarcastic "they don't have bread? then give them aspirins"
- davidbarrett, on 10/12/2007, -77/+9-1 digg for incorrect use of there/they're/their.
- shosterman, on 10/12/2007, -52/+11I'm going to play devil's advocate here, but I think many people fail to see the potential liability of this move. As a company, you want to be very careful as to the "contributions" you make (if this can be considered as one). Sending any product, especially a pharmaceutical item, can be disastrous if it's taken in the wrong context.
I'm glad things turned out positive for them. - texpundit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+60I think it was just someone at Google being a smartass...which isn't necessarily a bad thing. :)
- Benjamin2040, on 10/12/2007, -22/+2"I'm going to play devil's advocate here, but I think many people fail to see the potential liability of this move. - thefinger, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2I think it was a joke. You familiar with that idea? :)
- shosterman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Ouch, that was unnecessarily harsh....
To set things clear, I was simply stating a counter-argument that came to mind, it doesn't mean I was wishing legal recourse on the company (especially since I own stock with Google). But I guess if you were familiar with the term Devil's Advocate I wouldn't need to explain that.
As I said, I was "happy" things turned out well. - nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4yeah a bit harsh. my bad. i can be a big *****.
- infobeat234, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Hmm... The blogger was a small businessan who was really pissed off by drastic changes in Google Adsense. A corporation concerned about their clients (and their own business as well) should have sent a letter or email telling them things will improve with time( Which wont. But thats a little care for heaven's sake) Google needs a sack of Prozac and other arrogance control pills. ;)

- vikramchawa, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14Good job Robbyjo, I was about to say the same thing. A cannot be made to be equal B just to make people's lives easier. They clearly are not the same thing.

- danlovejoy, on 10/12/2007, -18/+7Yes, the "!=" is very Slashdotty and pretentious.
On the other hand reading "aspirin" in the title and "acetominophen" in the summary was confusing. They are completely different drugs, and can't be substituted for each other, even though they have similar effects.
If you don't know the difference between the two, you should educate yourself now. Aspirin shouldn't be given to children, ever. Aspirin, which is an NSAID, should never be combined with other NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen) except at the direction of a doctor or pharmacist. Acetominophen is extremely toxic in high doses, so you should always check all your meds to make sure you're not taking more than the daily recommended dosage. (Lots of meds contain acetominophen, including cold medicine and some narcotic pain relievers)
And finally, if you're having a heart attack, aspirin can save your life. Acetominophen will do jack. So, yes, there is a big, important difference. - NuttySquirrel, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5Acetaminophen can also cause liver damage while you are drinking.
- PhantomBantam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I agree. Why dumb it down for digger? It's not that it really matters, but Who is more pretentious, the guy who thinks he has to dumb down the title for average digger, or the guy who thinks we can tell the difference!?
- ZenKai, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27"Acetaminophen can also cause liver damage while you are drinking."
So can ninjas. - TheCheeta, on 10/12/2007, -11/+4I... cannot believe you people. Is that stick SOOO far up your ass that you have to complain about the man's choice of words, which, by the way, have no real consequence on the point of the story? Try moving back from the freakin' monitor a little bit, and see a bigger picture, perhaps... you've spent far too long in front of a computer. Go outside (which is located past the door that is on one of the walls of the room you are in). Live life a little. Go see a stand up comedy or something. IT'S A FREAKIN' FUNNY STORY. Get over yourselves already. I have to agree with someone who posted earlier... you people make life here REALLY difficult.
- MicroBerto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Those pills are actually Pain Away, we have the exact same ones here. Acetominophen (Tylenol), Aspirin, AND 65mg of Caffeine in each pill.

- dustedbunny, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I really dont think we need visual confirmation of what a trial size package of tylenol looks like.....
- author20, on 10/12/2007, -17/+3This is NOT good PR. Companies with solid-gold brand value detract from their brand's integrity when they engage in petty, frivolous jokes and pranks. If the customer is angry with Google, sending them aspirin would literally ignoring the problem and treating the symptom.
I was Customer Service director for a company that had very serious and demanding customers. Some of their demands were outrageous. But the average monthly revenue was over 10K per customer, so we used Nostrum's philosophy -- "customer is always right, all the time..give them anything they ask for if possible -- and take everything they say seriously..."
What was the result? We never lost a single customer. The ones who got most angry with us loved us the most and sent us more customers because they knew we were passionately dedicated to their customer satisfaction. The tech industry deviates from the standards of America's top brands. Google should stop putting their brand on the roulette table. There is no benefit, and the risks are out-of-this-world dangerous.
I am hoping Google will take on PayPal/Ebay and kick their arrogant rear ends (that often provide a hiding place for their heads). Only Google could mess it up, and stunts like this are not good for companies that want to be taken seriously. I am now boycotting Ebay/PayPal because of their arrogance. I hope Google doesn't keep getting a big head.- FBK4SURE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9you take life too seriously. Its not like they plan to do this again. Its a stunt that has worked for everybody, the blogger is happy, google is happy and I like google even more
- RyeBrye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9First of all - it's not "Nordstroms" and second of all... They're not making 10k / customer.
By your logic my local dollar store should cater to me the same way that a Ferrari dealership caters to a millionaire. - jggr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I thought they did answer his concerns...
Dear Al,
I hope this helps you keep up with the many Adwords changes.
PS – You are reading the Inside Adwords Blog, right?
The PS sort of says to me, that this is where the blog author should be going to help with his concerns. Just because they didn't address his issues in a way that caters to the customer's ego, doesn't mean they didn't help him. (And I, for one, am sick of customers who insist that they be treated like the King or the World, just because they buy my product. But then, this is why I'm not in customer service anymore.)
But then, I really don't know much about this subject, so feel free to bury me if I'm talking outta my ass.
My very own PS: "Blog" is not recognised by the spell check? wtf? - Inbal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They gave him exactly what he wanted. He didn't complain about a specific personal experience, but about the company's general decision. When a customer has a problem, you solve it; when they are dissatisfied, you make them happy. Using such cheap and humourous tactics to strengthen the customer's relationship with the corporation and make them want to tell more people about it is no less than brilliant.
- martinknas, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4> customer is always right, all the time
That's just silly. Companies that tells you that "the customer is always right" indirectly says that they have no competence in what they are doing. And who wants to work with a company that acts as if they have no knowledge in what they are doing, and with no own opinions? Everyone knows that customers is not always right. So why pretend?! Guess you're from the U.S...

If the person is allergic to the acetaminophen or takes too much and damages his liver Google would be wide open for some lawsuits. Also, if the person is against this kind of medication there is also the potential for lawsuits of Google sending him harmful chemicals.
Bad idea, Google. The lawsuits are going to start flooding in.- m1ss1ontomars, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5uh...by this point in your life, if you don't know that you're allergic to acetaminophen, you're pretty weird.

Please, take your ***** away. You've never worked for Google, and accusing them of using tax dollars (which would be the BIGGEST scandal ever seen) is outright absurd. You're not fooling anyone. - JCGV, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3now that I think off it, it wouldn't surprise me.
Google keeps a record of all the thing search for with Google (or at least they could)
Gmail, 2 gigs of emails which they can read without any trouble
Google checkout, they know what you buy on-line.
