- 590 diggs
- digg it
- GaryS278, on 10/11/2007, -99/+4I really hope this is the death of digg.
- nontitle, on 10/11/2007, -18/+11And why is that? If you don't like digg, go to slashdot or some other queer site.
- eliztown, on 10/11/2007, -9/+8he can't....he's a hater, so he can only live where he hates. it's just typical behavior from hormonal boys on digg. there's nothing you can do except to wait for them to mature. in the meantime, they'll keep trolling, it's just a fact of life on community-driven sites that cater to a younger audience. it's unavoidable.
- McTendo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11"there's nothing you can do"
Oh, yes there is. Watch.
*ahem*
Bitch got blocked.
- McTendo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11"there's nothing you can do"
- macewan, on 10/11/2007, -8/+3can't be a digger hater 'round these parts
- insomniac8400, on 10/11/2007, -1/+19It basically is. Commenting is no longer easy and pissing people off is much harder.
- xatx2, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2@GaryS278
Me too- ricerfuel, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1for god sake just click sort by date (show all), it magically reveals all the posts and the replies
- logic, on 10/11/2007, -5/+19Thanks
- PorchSong, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Yeah, no doubt, good job.
- geekologist, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6One less click, one less pain in the ass.
- Sniper, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1this
- Sniper, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1is
- Sniper, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1this
- geekologist, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6One less click, one less pain in the ass.
- flernk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Now can someone make a Greasemonkey script that makes the new comments less ugly and take up less room and makes it easier to read comment replies and allows for meaningful dialog and... oh nevermind.
- PorchSong, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Yeah, no doubt, good job.
- euunog, on 10/11/2007, -5/+13Thanks. This makes the new system slightly more bearable.
- patik, on 10/11/2007, -0/+19Now if only they'd fix it so it stops hiding child posts when you bury the parent. There are a *lot* of instances where I bury a parent (usually for something inaccurate or just stupid) then digg up the reply (usually a correction or witty retort).
- rebrad, on 10/11/2007, -7/+122You shouldn't have to use a script to do what Digg should do. The new comment system is broken. Digg should fix it.
- actorboy, on 10/11/2007, -9/+16Nor should you have to switch browsers to use a script to do what Digg should do.
- Pestilence, on 10/11/2007, -3/+21Switch browsers?? Greasemonkey runs on Firefox. You don't need to switch.
- Speed, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5He may not use Firefox. (Not sure why he wouldn't, but whatever)
- SenorPez, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9But why can't I reply to Pestilence's comment? Why am I forced to post here because Speed already replied?
DUMB.
- SenorPez, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9But why can't I reply to Pestilence's comment? Why am I forced to post here because Speed already replied?
- joshua5, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Then he should switch browsers.
- AmadelaJake, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3He's using Opera. That's why.
- zand, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1but it works in Opera too
- Eddible, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I thought Opera had support for userscripts these days anyway?
- kendawg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3SenorPez, you CAN reply to Pestilence, you just need to find the right box to type into!
- mink78, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I can't reply to him either, when viewing the entire tree with /all at the end of the URL. I can reply to you though, and to TubaTechno below. Hmmmmm
- Speed, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5He may not use Firefox. (Not sure why he wouldn't, but whatever)
- Pestilence, on 10/11/2007, -3/+21Switch browsers?? Greasemonkey runs on Firefox. You don't need to switch.
- TubaTechno, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6We should all petition our congressmen and demand that Digg change it!!
- actorboy, on 10/11/2007, -9/+16Nor should you have to switch browsers to use a script to do what Digg should do.
- ebarras, on 10/11/2007, -12/+71@rebrad I would have just replied to your comment, but then NOBODY WOULD EVER SEE IT. Good stuff.
- krelian, on 10/11/2007, -7/+1Oh my god, "Nobody would ever see it". Quick! stroke your epeen.
- TubaTechno, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Maybe no one wants to see your comment....
- DarkDragon, on 10/11/2007, -3/+33There is still the problem that with all the lines and boxes I think I am going to go effing blind =/
- greatblackowl, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16There's a greasemonkey script for that, too.
http://digg.com/design/Threaded_Digg_Comments_That_Actually_Look_Nice- manticore01, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5After installing both scripts i do eventually get an ok result. Thing is i need to wait for things to refresh twice now before i can see what i want. Come on Digg sort it out please. Also after installing both sripts i cant seem to reply to dark dragon, so the thread just keeps gettin threaded. I think this is to do with the scripts but to put it plainly i cant be arsed to spend more time as i didnt really think the comment system needed a major revamp just support for a few more thread levels.
If it aint broke... dont fix it

- greatblackowl, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16There's a greasemonkey script for that, too.
- cogitocogito, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1Included and excluded pages should be listed for www.digg.com as well as digg.com. Otherwise, nice.
- OMGWTFROFLMAOx2, on 10/11/2007, -7/+4@ebarras
lol, I think you're on to something. - linkin1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+54I hate web 2.0...plugins for plugins for plugins for plugins...enough already, whatever happened to ***** simplicity?
- sikosmurf, on 10/11/2007, -7/+3No one is forcing you to use it..
- Chompy, on 10/11/2007, -4/+31This system is horrible, FFS change it back. Was "first comment abuse" really that much of a problem?
- whiteEEnerd, on 10/11/2007, -16/+5Yes.
- macewan, on 10/11/2007, -15/+7count me as someone that sorta likes the clean design of the current style.
- hella81, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Okay, that's one.
- DenTPuzz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Make that two. I think this one is better.
- spudnic, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6With this and the other greasemonkey script the comments pages look much, much better
A suggestion for this one though, instead of having it redirect once you click the link, how about having it change the link on the front page to /all, that way it would take less redirects- spudnic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I refreshed the page and my comment hadn't been saved, so it ate all my editing time (sigh)
I was going to add a thank you, so, thank you!
Another thing I'd like to see changed is having blocking go back to how it was, I don't just want them burried, I want them gone. No idea why they changed that.
- spudnic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I refreshed the page and my comment hadn't been saved, so it ate all my editing time (sigh)
- rpgmaker, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12Men, when you have to use a script to make a web page do what it have to do you know that the things go wrong...
- zackkitzmiller, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Isn't that the entire purpose of Greasemonkey? To fix what developers didn't? or am i missing something?
- Nougat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Doesn't expand buried parents with children. Gotta fix that.
- speaker219, on 10/11/2007, -5/+3The site is running slow, here is a mirror:
http://speaker129.awardspace.com/showall.user.js
And the script for the old comment style:
http://speaker129.awardspace.com/nicecomments.user.js - Duhitsmichael, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15It still shows me the comments of people I have blocked. >=|
- FetalSage, on 10/11/2007, -10/+3Uhm, why don't you just click on "Comment Display Options"? It's not that hard.
- TazarYoot, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1There's already a topic like this one folks...
http://digg.com/design/Threaded_Digg_Comments_That_Actually_Look_Nice
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/10099 - bluephoenix, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12Did the story with 5000 diggs get buried? Where did it go?
- zackkitzmiller, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1If you've ever used digg, you'd know that those stories on the side only last for a few hours. Go to "Top in 24" it's there.
- bs0l, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6What they're not telling you is that everytime you view a digg article, it almost takes the same amount of time as it used to. Why? Because everytime you load the page, it has to reload with the scripts you have running. It looks great and all, but I don't want to have to reload a page everytime I want to read some comments?
Plus, the scripts have bugs (digging down a comment glitches show/hide functionality).- Septimus, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Nope, digging down works fine.
Just dugg you down, then viewed comments etc... all fine.
Thats in IE7 with this script, must be a FF thing.
- Septimus, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Nope, digging down works fine.
- TazarYoot, on 10/11/2007, -4/+4I swear I posted a comment here!
Anyway, incase it's just me hallucinating, there's already another topic like this one.
http://digg.com/design/Threaded_Digg_Comments_That_Actually_Look_Nice - MikeonTV, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1Can someone now fix the comment box on top script
- rebrad, on 10/11/2007, -4/+4@ ebarras I agree, why reply. Digg makes it too hard so why bother.
- Salmar, on 10/11/2007, -4/+8@OMGWTFROFLMAOx2
@ebarras
I agree. Keep the comments on the main page ourselves and just throw a @ at them.
Note to Digg: K.I.S.S. - rebrad, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3@OMGWTFROFLMAOx2 and @rpgmaker
I have to agree. Something is wrong. - c0ldevil, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4The comment options should be permanently configurable. To the unregistered users, they should keep all the comments expanded by default.
Anyway, just bring back the old comments - invader, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Load the page completely, execute the GM script, then reload the entire page to show the full one? Sounds fun.
Or you could just go straight to the expanded view...
http://www.digg.com/design/Auto_Expand_Digg_s_New_Comment_Trees_By_Brian_Shaler/all- xtmno3, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Still doesn't fix most of the problems with the new system, though.
- rpgmaker, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6I dugg this story to let kevin know that digg is BROKEN.
- rebrad, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2@bluephoenix Digg will give in when it's someone else but doesn't like the heat when it's their own doing.
- alceria, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3FYI - If you set the settings in your profile to "sort by most diggs" you don't get the awful threading click-click-click view. It's not a solution, but it's much less annoying. I had to switch to the regular view to see wtf everyone was complaining about. You still get the stupid "view 51-101" link though.
- hiPpymIck, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2@invader
i didnt comment on the story from your link because it has a 'perfect five' comments - Dracker, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Script FAILS.
http://digg.com/news/page2 gets redirected to http://digg.com/news/page2/all which is 404. You cannot read the second page of news! Solution is to add http://digg.com/*page* to the exclusions- invader, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2What if the story you go to has the word "page" in the title?
There are definitely better ways to solve this problem, besides building a massive list of inclusion and exclusion redirects. Why would you want to be redirected in the first place? Loading the comments takes too long as it is, but this script makes you load the entire page twice..- Dracker, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2With my fix, If the story has "page" in the title, the script won't activate and you'd have to show all comments manually.
Better than not being able to view anything but the first page of news.- plagiats, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Argh, wrong. Ok so to fix that you can check if there is an element with id="c-options" and if so redirect to /all
- plagiats, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Actually, the fix is even more simple : you just have to exclude http://digg.com/view/*
- Dracker, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2With my fix, If the story has "page" in the title, the script won't activate and you'd have to show all comments manually.
- invader, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2What if the story you go to has the word "page" in the title?
- Septimus, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1Thanks, works great on IE7 with IE7Pro also.
- CompIsMyRx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Fix the bugs on the script!
Exclude digg.com/users/ - adude, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2I wrote one that fixes the bugs: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/10101
- dombrowski, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Thank god...I'm always looking for ways to waste time more efficiently.
- BlackAdderIII, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1@Salmar
I think that's all we can do for the time being - at least then we can still see the comments, and still search for names.
Using the reply link = throwing your comment in the trash.
Come to think of it, comment dumping is what this system amounts to. It would be less annoying if they just left it the same and just randomly deleted half of them, ffs. - lcmatt, on 10/11/2007, -1/+33 Greasemonkey scripts to make Digg viewable (2 for comments and one to show the mirrors), how many more will I need to add? Also you need to fix the anti-aliased text issues.
- krelian, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2If it's so bad than you can leave.
- DivisibleByZero, on 10/11/2007, -5/+4Quit being such wet blankets, kids.
Now for some CONSTRUCTIVE criticism:
When I expand all comments (via GM or manually) I can no longer reply to top-level comments. Box just doesn't show up. - avik42, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I think this is a proof where sometimes good enough is better than "new improved".
Our lives are chaotic. Our opinion in a social context are varied and thus promote chaos. This new digg system proves that our lives and opinions can not be tidied up in a little boxes with bow on top. And if you do force it, then you end up with the new digg system. Nicely tidied up boxes with bows but utterly meaningless.
I believe this is one of those times where good enough was good enough.
P.S. I still love digg. I hope that the power to be will go back to the old system. - kickinass, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1how do you install the script? all i see is a page with code.
- kickinass, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1nm, i didn't have greasemonkey installed
- lhnz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2lol? Tubes?
- kickinass, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1nm, i didn't have greasemonkey installed
- shadowspawn, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The new comment system sucks; for once I found a website that stall's firefox's "script hang" detection. On a dual quad-core with gobs of ram. Additionally the verification system doesn't reload, our work's proxy servers have a utter conniption fit over something inside the pages on anything that has more than 50 comments. (I personally think that part is pre-fetching issues with the new untested code, as other sites using the same tech are being noted as having issues but not as BAD as this)
I like the layout and GUI, but something is very very much amiss under the veils. Hope they fix it. - louiedog, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I think this is the first greasemonkey script I've ever installed that didn't add any new features, it just fixed a huge problem. Thanks script author!
- djdole, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Hmm, lets see...
1. Commit to using Firefox only from now on, and convince self that GM & the script will always work no matter what upgrades/updates to Firefox are made.
2. Install GreaseMoneky
3. Install custom (and highly likely to be BUGGY) script.
Result - have full comment tree expanded...maybe...if it works.
OR
1. Click the "Expand Full Tree" button at the top of the comments.
Result - The full comment tree is expanded. Across ALL browsers. Period.
Yeah... You're right.... the script IS much easier. o_O- louiedog, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Way to be idiotic.
Here is the entirety of the scripts:
window.location = window.location + '/all';
That's it. It basically commits to clicking that button for you. Stop being a douche.- djdole, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1How was I a douche? Everything I said was true.
And FYI, just because code is succinct doesn't make it correct or totally free of bugs.
http://blog.digg.com/?p=83
They're actively fixing issues and improving their site. Why add additional overhead via greasemonkey & its scripts when you can (if you'll have a little patients) let the Digg-dev experts fix it.
But since you've already laid down the digg-tard gauntlet,
how about you refrain from being a sandy ***** yourself by not calling anyone you slightly disagree with an idiotic douche?
- djdole, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1How was I a douche? Everything I said was true.
- lhnz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11. I already use firefox, and am capable of installing or uninstalling anything I requrie to get the best web experience.
2. I already had installed Greasemonkey.
3. The current script I'm using isn't buggy as I checked through the script and it should work fine for now.
4. It worked!
There are 2 bugs but they aren't that bad compared to not using the 2 scripts.
1. It takes a while for the scripts to load onto the page - this would be fixed if digg was actually fixed.
2. I can only reply to the last comment that has been nested. (This should be fixed soon though?) - djdole, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1http://blog.digg.com/?p=83
They're working on the speed issue.
- louiedog, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Way to be idiotic.
- Godlike, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2If you are having problems with the new digg upgrade please view this image (SFW, instructional)
http://img455.imageshack.us/img455/4530/diggjv7.jpg- lhnz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Please believe me, but that won't fix the fact that you have to click on that button every single ***** time.
- SpookyET, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2Shut up you whining, bleeding *****. This system is way better than before. I open a lot of digg story tabs at the same time. The insane comment count with the inefficient and slow JavaScript code behind the old system would block firefox. My CPU was at 100% for 5-10 minutes until 20 digg tabs were loaded.
Those who are inert to change are destined to become dinosaurs. Don't be wankers! - MightyMack, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Why can't they call it a vine rather then a tree?
- insomniac8400, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1This is great. I can scroll up and down without it slowing down to a crawl. And can read comments again. Grease monkey is nice.
- tyfighter, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I need a script to digg everyone down.
- monkeyboy7706, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Am I the only person who actually likes the new comments?
