Great photos from Ferrari factory
automen.blogspot.com — Have you ever dreamed of working in the Ferrari Factory? Or would you be interested to see what it's like inside? The factory is located just outside the small town of Maranello, Italy. If you talk to your local dealer, they can arrange a tour for you! Here are some photos of brand new Ferrari's on the production line.

- wrenchone, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15Beautiful, high-performance cars, and a tree in the factory. This is environmentalism that I can get behind.

Ohh and I bet you think the Prius is a great car right? Unfortunately there still aren't any mass produced cars that are truly environmentally friendly. - mtwoar, on 10/12/2007, -14/+1@wrenchone
The question still remains. Have you ever DREAMED of working in a Ferrari factory?
/sarcasm/ - SLYK, on 10/12/2007, -17/+4In soviet Russia, environmentalism gets behind you!

"/terrible S.R. joke"
so why would you even say it? - webtekie, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1a fake tree probably
- ToRoE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The trees are real and are there to help keep the optimal humidity level in the factory. Also for employee moral. Ultimate factorys (Discovery Channel) had a 90 minute show on producing the 599.
Each engine case made in its own model. (one time use.) - popfrogs, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1@marmolade:
You're calling Ferrari mass-produced? This is so far from mass produced it shouldn't even be called a car. It's more of a 'model' than anything, hand built from the ground up each and every time.
Also yeah, we can fault the fuel economy of Ferraris. Why? How does 8mpg sound? Granted, these are not mass produced and there are only a handful of them being driven on the planet at any given time, but environmentalism doesn't make exceptions. - mfratt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@popfrogs
Sure, Ferraris aren't as mass produced as a Ford or even Porsche, but they are produced in numbers relatively large for their class, next to some cars where only a few hundred or less per year are made. - mredly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Article marked as inaccurate. Should read: Great photos from Heaven
- marm0lade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@popfrogs
When did I say ferraris are mass produced? I was simply stating there arent any mass produced evironmental friendly cars. This was in preparation for the bonehead that was bound to say "There are cars that have no emmissions, run on hydrogen, blah, blah, blah."
Ya sure there are, but can you get one??

- uglybob17, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Anyone who dugg this guy down doesn't watch enough South Park to get the joke. It has nothing to do with Ferraris being evil.
- coverlim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i want one - maybe this one: http://www.everystockphoto.com/photo.php?photo_id=100982 - but they are all taunting me from the other side of the glass http://www.everystockphoto.com/results.php?seed=ferrari
- 2tomato, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I've been there (outside of the factory) a few times. It's a funny place because you can often find super-rich guys with their brand new Ferrari in religious visit to Maranello. I've seen people coming to Maranello from all over europe - even from hong kong, they park in front of the Ferrari museum, make some noise with their V8 engines to cheer up the crowd, and then stand hours talking about how great they are with the local fellows. Definately, not the fashion-exclusive place you might think.
- DJFMA, on 10/12/2007, -2/+42The VW factory is still better:
http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1837641- borsdy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I don't necessarily agree but I'll digg you for the awesome photos.
- slickriven, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6That plant is better than the Ferrari one IMO. Ferrari's are certainly more prestigious and more expensive, but the VW shop is really nice. Sure the cars are made more with robotics, but they are a LOT cheaper. The VW factory is really open and light and the pics are cool. If I was a shop worker I would prolly want to work for the prestigious Ferrari, but still the VW plant is WAY better than the nearly 75% robotic American plants... then again robotics are more consistent and accurate than humans... anyhow I ramble, thanks for the good pics DJFMA.
- 2tomato, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Two completely different approaches.
Many Ferrari components are still hand-made and the work environment is much more human-friendly, when you work there you're part of a family. The BMW factory seems very technologically advanced for a commercial car production, indeed, but it also looks like quite a cold workplace. - ToRoE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That VW plant is for the Phaeton, which costs as much as a Ferrari... Crazy factory, Too nice!

- WolfwoodX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The VW plant is sweat, but I would have to say the McLaren factory is the best.

- mr1saturn, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2Yeah, it's a car factory. Cool.
/It's just a car factory- BigCalhoun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The VW factory is a nicer one. But it seems like the Ferrari factory has more company/team spirit. The red uniforms, the pictures of other Ferraris in the factory. IMO, it looks like those folks are proud to be working on a Ferrari (who wouldn't). Not to take anything away at all from the folks at VW. The pictures from the Ferrari factory just seem to convey a different message.
- ICSU, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, no matter what the brand, your back hurts equally if you are just an assembly-line worker.
- over900, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1in before some American nutcase with his Z06 comparo.
- BigCalhoun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm American and would take a Ferrari over a Corvette with no hesitation. Corvettes go 'Vroom', Ferraris and Lambos go "SWOOOOOOOSH"
- corvairkid, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2I'm going to get buried and flamed to the ninth circle of hell for this.
I'm a Canadian and I would take the Z06. The biggest complaints I've ever heard about it are the chunky shifter, cheap interior, and stiff ride at low speeds. What I never hear anyone mention is how many of these issues could be corrected using the money saved by not buying a F430. Once done, I'd have a car that can outperform the Ferrari in every aspect and have spent about half as much.
"Corvettes go 'Vroom', Ferraris and Lambos go "SWOOOOOOOSH""
That "swooshing" sound is what you hear when filling it up. How does the Corvette use a honkin' big 7.0L engine (427 cu in) with an "ancient" 16V pushrod valvetrain that makes more power and torque than the F430's 4.3L 4V DOHC and STILL get better gas mileage? I think American engineers are the real worldbeaters and are the ones to watch. They've proven that they're capable of some pretty amazing stuff when given enough freedom by management.
- KragTheDigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think Ferrari has an instrinsic duggable nature, if there's such a thing.

PS: love the shot of the F1 model 'laying around' in the back :P - republick, on 10/12/2007, -10/+0WOW overpriced car production. this is news?
- BCHistheShiznit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Great post. And it really does look like that inside. Trust me - I know from experience, dude.
Although, the tour really didn't compare to being in an Enzo with the head driver behind the wheel doing ~160 mph on their private test track.
/ Not sarcasm. - bcardarella, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"Have you ever dreamed of working in the Ferrari Factory?"
Isn't this setting you sites a little low? I'd prefer to dream about *owning* the Ferrari Factory.- zonk3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Exactly what I was thinking. Why the hell do I want to work there? Like saying, "Do you dream of polishing the Queens boots?" Why yes, yes, I do! Can't wait.
- marinist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wish I was there, where I'd spend most of my time watching them build engines.
I hoped to see that in the photos. - fallenone05, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I don't see the Ferrari laptop in any of the photos...Marked as innacurate!
- tooasianguys, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think most of the European manufacturers can arrange a tour for you, not just Ferrari. I own an Audi, and was offered the choice for a "European pick-up". I could travel to Ingolstadt, Germany, and then see my car roll out of the factory (as well as get a tour of the factory) After the complimentary program time elapsed, there were several locations I could drop my car off at to have it shipped back to the states. Cool I guess, but I elected not to do it, as it seemed too costly for what it really is - an overpriced vacation to see my car before it had been put on a boat and dropped off in my dealer's parking lot. Meh.
- juniorcosmonaut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1R26 or A8?
- Insignian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0If you work there do you get a discount on the cars or not so much because all I really want is just the car.
- cyberpear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There was a program on the Discovery Channel a couple of weeks ago that showed how each step is done in the Ferrari factory. It was quite interesting.
- HJCarey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The factory is actually very interesting, much more so than I thought a car factory would. It's very organize and everything seemed to be very precise in their . The tour showed a ferrari from the first piece of metal in the engine block to testing the enigine, to the final touch ups on the paint job. It was overall very impressive. The factory even had its own mini musem which was pretty cool to. They had a bunch of the older models as well as some concept designs and what not. If you ever get a chance to go for some reason, definitely take up on that offer, it's well worth it.
- I'm curious as to how they let him take pictures in there, they were very strict with their no camera rules when I went. Oh well, guess the press is special. - addisonj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The thing that i find really impressive is just how clean and bright it is, of course that is how it should be, but mmmmm brand new polished high performance auto parts being bolted on... that sexy right there...
- ahughes, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Doesnt look too far off Honda's plants.
- NJD6580, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Working there would be great for the 1st week, then it would turn into any job. Actually, it would probably suck since it's a labor intensive job.
- hydrosnowman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this factory is pure automotive history, imagine all the f1 cars that were built there
- AjayF, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In the last photo of the disc brakes, what is that black, rough coating all over them?
- TheBowerbird, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Those are Ferrari's carbon-ceramic disc brakes. Porsche also utilizes a similar system in some of their models.
- cardinale, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Who would dream of working in a factory?

"Who would dream of working in a factory?"
Liberals, of course! Because it is their support of unions that have created the artificially inflated wages of UAW factory workers.
It's no wonder American cars suck: you cannot create high quality cars and remain competitive when the guy screwing in the cup holder in a UAW factory is making $150,000 per year ($75/hr including benefits) whereas the guy working for Toyota is making half that. Before you start crying, $75,0000 a year sounds pretty good too, doesn't it?
I hope you libs will start to put two and two together (even if logic and reason aren't your strong suits): where there is an enforced monopoly of labor (e.g., teachers unions, auto workers, etc.) you get ***** products/performance and artificially high wages.
Unions win, consumers lose. It is as simple as that.
Thanks, Libs! - karn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Any references to back up that claim of 150K a year? I think your just jealous your not making that much.
- juniorcosmonaut, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1yeah where does that 150k come from,
and what is $75,0000? - karn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Didn't get to edit my comment in time but I looked into the figures you apparently pulled out of your ass, or blindly accepted when listening to talk radio. Heres the correct figures for those wondering.
http://www.uaw.org/barg/03/barg02.cfm
The figures are even inflation adjusted for you!
Thanks for being a typical "fiscal conservative"
Definitely dugg down - mfratt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I can't say that I think those numbers are right, but the logic remains. I'm not saying we should have sweat shops, but the employers should be able to pay whatever people are willing to work for. If they can hire people at $20k or $30k/yr, fine. If it takes $100k, then so be it. I do not think it is right for government or unions to fix salaries as such.
- ReardenMetal, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1@karn

Did you know Domino's has the best pizza? For those who are wondering how I know this, it's right here:

For sake of argument, I won't question the reliability of UAW wage information supplied by the UAW (who, of course, benefit from making their wages look as low as possible).
Assuming those number are accurate, four points:
1. The wage information is for a "typical" worker, it does not show the average wage.
2. The last wage entry is 5 years old.
3. It does not include benefits (e.g., health insurance, and a big fat pension).
4. Even the UAW admits those numbers do not "include overtime, shift premiums and other expenses associated with having a person on a payroll."

Damn. - djm91, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think of it this way, if you have enough money to buy a Ferrari, Hummer, Lambrogini (spelled it wrong), Bentley, or Aston Matrin... you can definitly afford to keep it filled up with gas
- hifiDesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not to imply anything about the actual quality and function of a Ferrari, but the VW Phaeton factory itself is much nicer.

The coolest innovation to finally make it into production cars is the CVT. Gear boxes are stupid. - wcm3d42day, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This item grabbed my attention as it reminded me of an awesome experience I had back at the beginning of last December. I'm just a financially poor disabled guy who happens to really enjoy exotic sports cars and on December 3rd I happened to have three incredible sports cars parked out in my yard for about an hour. Two Lamborghinis and a 2002 Ferrari 575 Maranello. They were driven here to my house in northeastern Pennsylvania from New Jersey by some very generous people who wanted to put a smile on my face and make my day! They succeeded! The manager of Lamborghini Bergen County accompanied the two gentlemen who drove the Lamborghinis here. A 2007 white Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 and a 2006 white Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder. They tell me the combined value of the three cars was in excess of $750,000. A day I will never forget!
