ICANN Finally Recognizes Dissolution of Yugoslavia
news.wired.com — ICANN has approved a plan to phase out the domain name for Yugoslavia, four years after the country dissolved following civil war. It'll take two or three more years for ".yu" users to fully transition to ".rs" for Serbia and ".me" for Montenegro. In this case the delay was political, not technical.

As manager of domain names it it ICANN's job to ensure that the proper domain names are associated with the proper countries. ICANN somewhat dropped the ball here on this issue because it has been over 4 years since Yugoslavia has been dissolved. ICANN must figure out away to put politics aside and changed domain names that should no longer exist much more quickly.
