- mark076h, on 06/13/2008, -18/+89your not funny unless it's bashing MrBabyMan

- MrZaiko, on 06/13/2008, -25/+11Who gives a *****!!!!!!!! damn are you that into Digg users that you know her specialty is bashing mrbabyman??
- jaychuck, on 06/13/2008, -1/+19she was the one who made the baby man spoof article. not a hard name to remember.
- CraigMNCF, on 06/13/2008, -9/+1MrBabyMan*
- optimusprime01, on 06/13/2008, -22/+77@YesImAChick
I agree with mark076h . "YesImAchick" you failed miserably by trying hard to be funny or smart. Lady your are only good at bashing and accusing people especially "mrbabyman". That was one sh**ty thing you did, you should be ashamed of yourself.
Anyways, before you digg me down, please remember we diggers don't care if all your family members work for digg; if they do, good for them. They should consider themselves lucky to be working for digg.
Please don't always brag about your boyfriend working for digg, it's kinda getting sick.
What we all diggers are concerned about, is the future of this great social bookmarking heaven.
To me digg is PRICELESS!!
UNDERSTAND! - YesImAChick, on 06/13/2008, -57/+4Ha! Go OGC yourselves.
- Kyrgizion, on 06/13/2008, -3/+106BACK TO THE KITCHEN WITH YOU!
- specialK16, on 06/13/2008, -6/+25OWNED!
That was epic, seriously. - jessenoob, on 06/14/2008, -0/+2Pepsi spit all over your monitor? It's more likely than you think.
- specialK16, on 06/13/2008, -6/+25OWNED!
- seventoes, on 06/13/2008, -0/+16You do realize OGC means masturbate right? I'm sure most of the digg population is used to OGC'ing themselves.
- Kyrgizion, on 06/13/2008, -3/+106BACK TO THE KITCHEN WITH YOU!
- legendxx, on 06/13/2008, -10/+21Are you 10 years old? Comments like yours come out of the mouths of pre-teens who get excited about holding hands with the opposite sex and spend all day on myspace. If what you say is true.. what was the point of your comment? Do you think he will like you more for advertising the fact or exaggerating (possibly) the value of his company? Do you find some kind of enjoyment about bragging to the online community that you finally found someone able to tolerate your obnoxious attitude? Cause if you just find endless pleasure in spouting the fact that you have a boyfriend for kicks then you really need to grow up.
Please help me understand.- Evie1851, on 06/13/2008, -0/+6ooo. burn.
- MrZaiko, on 06/13/2008, -3/+31Ok ok her comment is dumb, I give you that.
But these replies...
damn some diggers are VERY deep anal about girls bragging about their boyfriends who happens to work for Digg.- azaraa09, on 06/13/2008, -2/+10I can vouch for this. I am VERY deep anal.
- ryansmith18, on 06/13/2008, -3/+15lol....you said "girls" and "very deep anal" in the same sentance. Thanks for the mid-day boner.
- YesImAChick, on 06/13/2008, -12/+27Dear Diggers: the reason for my dumb comment is that I wanted it make it clear that I do not work for Digg. Last time my story went popular, I was accused of working for Digg.
- iDiggIt42, on 06/13/2008, -1/+17Then perhaps you should've just said that?
- YesImAChick, on 06/13/2008, -17/+7Perhaps, but it's more fun to try to be funny.
- lordthor, on 06/13/2008, -5/+13Kim Vogt, Stop pretending your boyfriend works for digg. If you even have a boyfriend he probably pumps gas.
Stop saying dumb crap like "I don't work for digg BECAUSE my boyfriend works there" like you totally could work for digg, you just choose not to because he already does. You couldn't work for digg if you actually shot lolcats out your bum. you would still be less than zero value to anyone there.
Stop acting pretentious and stuck up and better than everyone else. You're not. You're the same at best, and several notches below everyone else here at worst, Kim. Get over yourself and go back to fark. Pretend you're married to the VP of marketing there. I'm sure they'll believe you.- YesImAChick, on 06/14/2008, -4/+1Quoting Lordthor: "Belt? I'm not even wearing pants. And you should pray I have my boxers on."
Is this because you have no pubes or a because you have a small wiener?
Are you really 20?
Your interests are thermodynamics and quantum physics, and you're in IT?
At least I do my research first - http://www.blogger.com/profile/0371579538294932677 ... - YesImAChick, on 06/14/2008, -4/+1Here's the real link until he takes it down: http://www.blogger.com/profile/0371579538294932677 ...

- MrZaiko, on 06/13/2008, -7/+7Most of you wish your girl was that into you... Or your pet
- lordthor, on 06/13/2008, -2/+2My girl IS my pet.
- Evie1851, on 06/13/2008, -4/+3No they don't.
- legendxx, on 06/15/2008, -0/+1Wow you're retarded and very much a girl. Why don't women understand that if they just want to say something then JUST ***** SAY IT.
- Evie1851, on 06/13/2008, -12/+7@yesimachick
excuse me wtf r u doin?
I don't think that there is anywhere you can go on digg now where people won't make fun of you. You just picked up about 100 trolls lol. You're "boyfriend" doesn't work for digg, I could probably find "him" hiding in your underwear drawer or under your mattress.
PS: your name will not get you any more attention. Letting everyone know you have boobs isn't going to bring flocks of men around to worship you. This is the internet. No one cares.- Hase0, on 06/13/2008, -1/+2Could she DiggWhore anymore?
- Evie1851, on 06/13/2008, -0/+1lol
no I don't think so.
and also-I'm pretty sure digg isn't worth 100 billion dollars haha. I don't know WHERE that number comes from.....
Not that I don't wish the company the best of luck and all the money in the world lol. This site rox my sox off. - YesImAChick, on 06/14/2008, -3/+1You and lordthor clearly don't get out enough. It comes from here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTmXHvGZiSY.
- Evie1851, on 06/14/2008, -0/+3The URL contained a malformed video ID. *eyeroll*
yes clearly we don't get out enough because we missed something on youtube...... - YesImAChick, on 06/14/2008, -3/+1Take the '.' off the end. You're in IT you should've figured that out. Ohh wait that's your lordThor ;-)
I'll help you out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTmXHvGZiSY - Evie1851, on 06/14/2008, -0/+1oh for f*cks sake lol.
i didnt even see it. and ya..im not in IT. I see u read our profiles though.
and ok I watched it. I thought you were going to give me some proof that 100 billion was an accurate number. /sad face. I was so hoping to flame you for that :(
- Evie1851, on 06/13/2008, -0/+1lol
- Hase0, on 06/13/2008, -1/+2Could she DiggWhore anymore?
- poploserdigg, on 06/13/2008, -9/+5hey anyone know if YesImAchick's boyfriend works anywhere?
- YesImAChick, on 06/13/2008, -14/+4I know!
- Evie1851, on 06/13/2008, -1/+4shush.
- YesImAChick, on 06/13/2008, -14/+4I know!
- AutoTom, on 06/14/2008, -0/+3wow.. little harsh people?
chill out.. it was just a comment.- Evie1851, on 06/14/2008, -1/+1:(
- zebco, on 06/14/2008, -0/+1Everytime some poster claiming to have ***** gets on here and puts her foot in her mouth, some virgin douche bag has to come out of the shadows to try to valiantly protect her.
She's not going to have sex with you, Auto Tom. So you might as well agree with the rest of us.- Evie1851, on 06/21/2008, -0/+1Okay that was hilarious.
Dugg.
- Evie1851, on 06/21/2008, -0/+1Okay that was hilarious.
- Eaststand, on 06/14/2008, -1/+1why all the hate? Seems a bit OTT to me.
- Evie1851, on 06/14/2008, -0/+1sage.

- mark076h, on 06/13/2008, -18/+89your not funny unless it's bashing MrBabyMan
- tinko, on 06/13/2008, -78/+318I like Google, but please, Kevin, Jay, et al...don't sell out.
- RudeTurnip, on 06/13/2008, -11/+130I'm pretty sure they "sold out" when the company was founded as a business venture in the first place.
- trixterIreland, on 06/13/2008, -6/+28no that is buying in, totally different :)
- ANTITH3SIS, on 06/13/2008, -2/+6Anyone else see SLC Punk? Basically the same exchange in the movie as you and RudeTurnip just had.
- BurnTees, on 06/13/2008, -3/+98i hate the negative sell out BS...the reason most people are in any sort of business is to make money. Good for them if they can build up something on their own and make millions of dollars from it. Most of us only wish we could do something like that.
- sethorama99, on 06/13/2008, -1/+40I've been trying to sell out for years, but no one's buying.
- MrQuoz, on 06/14/2008, -1/+1I think selling Digg could provide better service and less bugs.
- rpgmaker, on 06/13/2008, -7/+3Who is the hottie on the thumbnail?
UPDATE: Marissa Mayer.- sint4x, on 06/13/2008, -1/+12UPDATE: It's in the first sentence of the article.
- thirdcoastborn, on 06/13/2008, -5/+3she's ugly
- thirdcoastborn, on 06/14/2008, -2/+1she's not ugly?
- raynar, on 06/13/2008, -0/+5SELL DIGG.
sell it and cash out before someone does the same to digg that digg did to slashdot.- MadOgre, on 06/13/2008, -0/+4I agree... make a ***** load of cash, keeping your rights to Diggnation, and live fat and happy... and then develope a real Digg Killer... or buy G4 TV, ***** those ignorant *****, and do it up right.
- Angostura, on 06/13/2008, -0/+1What, you mean acted as a place for the dumb comments to go?
- dfsjdkflasjk, on 06/14/2008, -0/+1@MadOgre, YES.
- raynar, on 06/14/2008, -0/+1no. i meant add 2 or 3 minor features, then use someone else's advertising slot to plug your site.
- trixterIreland, on 06/13/2008, -6/+28no that is buying in, totally different :)
- tnoy, on 06/13/2008, -0/+96They need to sell while people still care about the site.
- subliminalurge, on 06/13/2008, -7/+40Agreed. Digg is already approaching uselessness, and going downhill fast.
Once they expanded the categories significantly beyond tech and science, they began to draw huge numbers of pre-pubescent idiots, and the S/N ratio went crashing through the floor.
Even the articles in the science section consist mostly of idiots posting tired, used up, 5 year old memes.- HentaiJeff, on 06/13/2008, -16/+8So, I herd you liek mudkipz
- sethorama99, on 06/13/2008, -2/+16I hear you can buy Friendster for $39.95.
- mooseofshadows, on 06/13/2008, -4/+8lolwut?
- stuffradio, on 06/13/2008, -1/+5I'll give you $20 for Friendster.
- tyywebb, on 06/13/2008, -1/+16Omg, I read that as "They need to sell, white people still care about the site." I am a horrible person.
- FadieZ, on 06/13/2008, -0/+3Wtf, me too. Minus the comma for extra confusion.
- subliminalurge, on 06/13/2008, -7/+40Agreed. Digg is already approaching uselessness, and going downhill fast.
- mochaman, on 06/13/2008, -12/+7Here here my brother. I'm all for keeping them separate because Google already knows too much about us as it is. If they take over digg then they'll know what we are digging, I don't know about you but that would be a deal breaker for me. I would stop using digg I don't want Goolgle to know what I'm digging, what tickles me or the stupid things I say here. Peace out!!
- fas2, on 06/13/2008, -0/+35Not that it matters, but everyone can see what you are digging and what stupid things you say here.
- Daniel591992, on 06/13/2008, -0/+22http://digg.com/users/mochaman/history
- mgnyc11, on 06/13/2008, -0/+4Sorry buddy, too late:
http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sou ... - mrstoneok, on 06/14/2008, -0/+0HAH... Hilarious..... laughed more at that than I did at the article (since it was indeed intended to be a joke)
- NoCt1, on 06/13/2008, -22/+15eh... digg is going down hill. the quality is going downhill in posts....
- graemee, on 06/13/2008, -0/+29There's selling out, and then there is making good on your idea & hard work. They deserve to be credited with the latter.
- Fordi, on 06/13/2008, -1/+6Better option: sell an unlimited license to the Digg code base to Google. Let them sort things out themselves from that.
- quomen, on 06/13/2008, -2/+24What would selling out mean? How would the site actually change. If it wasn't for ad-block, I would probably still be annoyed by those "You're the 10000th visitor!" ads. User support already sucks. Much of the content is social propaganda and 4chan images. Digg moderators sometimes censor comments. What harm could an acquisition by Google do?
- j2002, on 06/13/2008, -0/+17I like how it said that digg could help google make its news results more relevant - if you let diggers decide on yours news for you you'd most likely end up with 2 dozen articles about Lolcats, iphone and digg news
- MScrip, on 06/13/2008, -0/+9Or you could just go to CNN.com and let some editor decide what is news.
I still like Digg, but if I see a Lolcat story... I don't click on it! Simple!- subliminalurge, on 06/13/2008, -0/+7Yeah, but even when I click on a story about NASA's next moon mission, the comments mostly consist of 12 year olds posting ***** like "I can haz moon rover?"
- MScrip, on 06/13/2008, -1/+2So?
Comments ≠ Content
Imagine if CNN.com allowed comments! The Internet would be a better place if no one was there...
- MScrip, on 06/13/2008, -0/+9Or you could just go to CNN.com and let some editor decide what is news.
- mille716, on 06/13/2008, -1/+2I'm very uncomfortable but understanding of a sellout to google. Even though Rose and Adelson created digg, they are somewhat responsible for getting a profitable return to the venture capitalists who finance the site. If they do sell out though, it'd be important for Rose to make sure to protect digg's autonomy as much as he can in the deal.
- jamdogg, on 06/13/2008, -2/+1What? If they were really offered $200 muhhh muhhh miiillyun then this whole thread would not be here (neither would Kevin).
- redhitman, on 06/13/2008, -2/+2Aww, come on, Digg has gotta be worth way more than that. It's better than YouTube.
- TimDigg, on 06/13/2008, -1/+13Please don't put digg buttons in search results....please!!
- brundlefly76, on 06/13/2008, -2/+4"Mayer's goal: to use what Digg has learned to fix Google News which, while popular, doesn't make Google any money"
Um, from what I understand Digg has never made a profit either - ?- duckyinc, on 06/13/2008, -0/+91) Make a tech site
2) Make it user driven so you don't have to work
3) Add stupid "other" categories

- brundlefly76, on 06/13/2008, -1/+2Johnny by all means point me to a reference - because I have never found one.
If there is a business model apart from 2 non-relevant banner ads topping the comments pages please, by all means, lets hear it - because those sure as hell isn't floating their costs, let alone profits. - JohnnyRad, on 06/13/2008, -0/+1If you honestly believe this site does not make a profit you are living in a dream world my friend. I don't work for digg, and do not have any powerpoints or internal docs to show you though.
BUT you're right - Microsoft, McDonalds, Netflix, Universal Studios, Coldplay - these are all really small companies (and band) that probably don't pay much for advertisements...
- brundlefly76, on 06/13/2008, -1/+2Johnny by all means point me to a reference - because I have never found one.
- duckyinc, on 06/13/2008, -0/+91) Make a tech site
- Wakuko, on 06/13/2008, -5/+3They sold out to M$ already.

- benologist, on 06/13/2008, -18/+613I would be surprised if Google really wants to shell out a huge amount of money for Digg. I'm just not seeing the value in a community addicted to funny pics/vids that vocally despises almost everything including each other.
I could see Fark wanting to buy digg because they'd finally fill that position they've had open forever for someone with design talent, or maybe 4chan just to formalise their ownership of the site, but I really can't see Google buying digg and especially not to fix Google News. That just doesn't make sense. If Google wanted to try their hand at social news they'd probably start by adding vote, bury and submit links rather than buying a fickle community that prefers to get their news from the blog equivelent of tabloids.- wendelgee2, on 06/13/2008, -0/+260Especially since we're the type of community that's apt to use Ad-Block.

- ThE0eNiGmA, on 06/13/2008, -2/+61Youtube... the realm of adolescents and retards, and the two are not mutually exclusive. Think they use adblock? In all likelihood, the average Youtube user uses IE.
- LocalDocal, on 06/13/2008, -3/+30Are you kidding? That's not even a comparison. Aside from the fact that there are many, many more Youtube users than Digg users, Youtube users also stays on the website a lot longer, and they don't use Ad-block, so the ad revenue potential is enormous.
On the other hand, Digg users pretty much all have ad-block so you can't advertise to them. On the off-chance you manage to slip an ad for a new season of Heroes through, they'll probably pirate the commercial-less episodes instead of watching the show. Hell, even advertising a presidential candidate is useless because Digg always has someone already picked, and diggers change their mind as often as Dick Cheney gives money to charity. I should know; I'm currently using Firefox with adblock while pirating Windows XP and I'm sitting next to my envelop of the Obama DVD I got for donating to his campaign.
Basically, Digg isn't worth much unless you like hearing 'OM NOM NOM' or '***** THE RIAA'. - Enishiru, on 06/14/2008, -0/+1but clearly, we're all self-aware

- benologist, on 06/14/2008, -0/+4Yup, and YouTube was a direct replacement for Google Video. It did the same thing but a lot better (ironic when Google Video was created because of YouTube). Digg isn't a replacement for Google News though.
Google News is an unbiased aggregate of what's happening in the world right now. Digg is about funny links, blogs spoon feeding popular opinion back into the crowd it came from, and sometimes some news. You might as well argue that Google was going to aquire digg as a replacement for Google Maps for all they have in common.

Do you want Digg FAIL? I guess Money, Money, Money, it is a Rich Man's World. Duh!- benologist, on 06/13/2008, -3/+4I don't know that it would fail but it would become very different to it is now. Google's got a lot of experience combating people spamming and gaming just about everything they own, which could only help Digg. But they also have a low tolerance for offensive speech and aren't afraid to delete inappropriate content, which could also only help Digg but in doing so would piss off a lot of the most active/vocal users.

- dazparkour, on 06/13/2008, -0/+12Let's face it - a lot of cash will go to the people who developed digg, if they can't sell out once it works, why develop.

- willy1234x1, on 06/13/2008, -0/+6Yeah Google seems to make things better. Give them the site and we might actually seem some good change.
- terrix, on 06/13/2008, -1/+1Not to mention currently digg does not turn a profit, if they don't sell then they have no way of making a profit. Not to mention they'd have a major cash influx for improvements new programmers, and the same team would still be there behind the scenes.

- ralphthemagi, on 06/14/2008, -2/+0It's not like that's $200m in the bank for one person. Most of that money goes to Digg's investors. Don't know what kind of a stake Kevin kept, but $200m sale might only mean $15m after taxes. Digg just finished a C round, and has gotten over $11m in investment. The stock has probably become very diluted. Kevin also probably gave up the right to sell a long time ago.

- Steinr, on 06/13/2008, -4/+14Ads finance an otherwise free internet... I make a point of using ads when I search for products on google. Google gets my business and so does the advertiser. Everybody is happy and the system keeps working...
Same everywhere, when I want a T-shirt I refresh digg.com until I get to a snorg tees ad and then click that and proceed to buy.- ThE0eNiGmA, on 06/13/2008, -3/+17That is quite noble, but many of us just aren't interested in buying anything, and many ads are extremely annoying. Why should we have to subject ourselves to visual and occasionally auditory torture?
- Steinr, on 06/13/2008, -2/+8You are right there is that aspect as well, and I feel the pain with you. But I cherish the internet and want to keep it free, and the only way to do that is to click on ads.

I guess if it does happen, it's not a bad thing, but I like Digg exactly how it is (even the assholes that balance out the awesome people) and to change it would make me sad. But, look at Youtube. Nothing changed, except they blocked TV shows and movies. Wait......Uh oh.....

- SethEllis, on 06/13/2008, -4/+47Digg already has a huge community, but it would be nothing compared to how much traffic it could get with Google. Especially if they use it to replace Google news. With this in mind I question Google's ability to manage the community. Digg is already kinda unruly, and has it's fair share of community troubles. People here can turn on you pretty quickly.
- darmacc, on 06/13/2008, -1/+10thats part of the appeal..
- gplpark92, on 06/13/2008, -0/+12google news and digg differ in that Digg is just here to provide something interesting for people to read/see/watch - and much of it is technology, because the people who use digg tend to be more technically skilled than standard users, and probably google news readers.

- DangerCollie, on 06/13/2008, -1/+7I think that would be a great match. Being able to extend the Digg community with Google applications and services, I see some really great opportunities there. Go for it.
But make sure you include a ride on the private 767 as part of the deal. What's the point of selling out to Google if you can't score a ride on the really big tricked out airliner? And make them fly you somewhere totally cool to celebrate the deal, like Sydney. Because from there you could do a fly over tour of Antarctica. If the Google guys whine about the gas there's a 747 that flies Antarctic tours out of Sydney. It's around $5K, but what do you care? You'll be rich. Take the tour. Go dive the reef, go to the Sydney Opera House, have a ball. You guys earned it. Digg is a great site and you've managed it really well. - centran, on 06/13/2008, -1/+36Well if anyone where to buy Digg it would be nice for it to be Google. The reason? Google is not really big on changing things.
Look at flickr. How long does it take you to realize it is owned by yahoo? If it is not obvious at first it is very obvious the moment you sign up.
Now lets look at youtube. How obvious is it that it is owned by google? There is ONLY ONE sentence on their company history page about it. That is just unheard of for a company. Normal companies are very big on branding and want to get their name out there.- BSeffrood, on 06/13/2008, -0/+17***** I didn't even know that Google owns YouTube, I must have been hiding under a rock when that happened.

- skyshock1, on 06/13/2008, -0/+4Google's got nothing to prove at this point, so "getting their name out there" probably isn't a huge priorty. Heck, their name has become a verb - a veritable lexicon.
- danielman94, on 06/13/2008, -0/+6Yeah, I agree. While I'd like it if nobody bought them, I'd rather have Google go ahead and buy it than have someone like Yahoo buy it. God, I hate Yahoo. When they bought Flickr, I didn't really think much of it. When they made me switch my email to Yahoo or leave Flickr, though, I was mad. Yahoo sucks.
- ralphthemagi, on 06/14/2008, -0/+0LOL! Are you kidding? Google Maps, Google Docs, Google Earth, Google Spreadsheets, Google Sites, Google Groups, Google Analytics, Google Page Creator, Google Desktop and Google Reader (some of it, anyway) were all other services that Google bought and completely changed.
Outside of Google Search and Gmail, most of what you think of as "Google services" are actually aqusitions that were re-branded under the Google name.

- zerochaos56, on 06/13/2008, -6/+3I can not see Digg ever dying. I mean when I look at some news stories on CNN I am always looking for the bury button. Digg has something that is fresh and creative. Hopefully this Google thing is just a big rumor.
- benologist, on 06/13/2008, -2/+2Why would you bury the declining stream of quality news on a site that claims to be about news and quality? Do you really attach more value to yet another photo of a cat that someone only submitted because their ads are all around it anyway?
- zerochaos56, on 06/13/2008, -1/+2If I see a story that I think is boring or completely stupid I like to have the option to bury it. I love all the options that Digg gives the users. If you do not like Digg, why do you bother getting an account?
- bjs3171, on 06/13/2008, -1/+1what?
- zerochaos56, on 06/13/2008, -0/+1I commented on how I felt Digg was different since it was a social news site. Instead of CNN(just used it as an example, CNN has good stuff) And that Digg will not "die out" like someone commented before.
I took beneologist's comment to mean that Digg wasn't that great.(not a really clear comment he/she made) So I asked why bother getting an account if he or she thought Digg wasn't that great.
If I was wrong in understanding his or her comment, sorry. - benologist, on 06/13/2008, -0/+2I think digg's great, but I also think it's peaked and on a downward spiral. Community-powered anything is only good while the community's good, and this community is self destructing. It's like a really nice car with a *****-drunk driver. For now at least it's still tolerable and options are limited anyway.
My comment was mostly because I was surprised. With the constant flow of lame crap, spam, political bashing and republished pics/vids I can't imagine why news from a respectable source would get buried. - zerochaos56, on 06/13/2008, -0/+1I am sorry then benologist then. Now I understand more of what you meant. I too think sometimes that Digg is going down. I find myself looking more at upcoming news stories on Digg than just the front page news since a lot of time the front page stories are just completely uninteresting. Just like you said, the community is the lifeline of Digg.

Intelligence got out of digg long time before that. - Fordi, on 06/13/2008, -1/+2You must be new here.
There are plenty of morons right here on Digg. Fortunately, they're easily managed away, and it only takes four or five people to see an idiotic comment before it's nicley below viewing threshold.
I've said it twice so far, but Google and Digg's best bets would be to buy Digg's codebase and modify it to suit their own needs, or to hire out Digg's coding team to advise and help build out Google News.
Mind you, given the example of YouTube, Google buying Digg probably wouldn't change much, aside from being able to more tightly integrate google accounts into Digg - and perhaps migration of the Digg API into the Google API family.
I think Google's best purchase to date was of Writely. Google Docs is seriously the better for it. - lordtyros, on 06/13/2008, -0/+6"Digg has a largely intelligent community"

That's like saying the hammer and the nail is a competition. - linuxpenguin, on 06/13/2008, -2/+3Google and Yahoo! struck an advertising deal, big whoop. Businesses do stuff like that all the time. Microsoft spent 4 months trying to buy Yahoo! out - or did you forget already? Google didn't prevent anything - Microsoft just failed to negotiate well, and didn't close the deal.
Google and others have had their chance to buy Digg. I'm willing to bet that Google won't buy Digg - first of all, if anyone starts filtering stuff on here, I just know a lot of people will leave. Second of all, Google wants to keep a professional appearance, which Digg won't help - lolcats and Bill O'Reilly attacks don't impress investors. Third of all, Google already has Google News for news - which does a good job of bringing together a lot of quality news sources, and has actual news rather than reposts and complaints about users who repost from Reddit.- duckyinc, on 06/13/2008, -1/+1Have a look at youtube, it's digg 2.0 with even more fail.
- linuxpenguin, on 06/13/2008, -0/+1No, it's not - normal people go to YouTube, or at least watch videos hosted there. You can find some pretty funny stuff on there.
There's a lot of crap, but there's some good stuff too - and there's plenty of people/companies trying to "go viral" on there. Plus, there's a ton of sites that would rather just embed YouTube video than host it themselves - that can take a ton of bandwidth.

- alanr19, on 06/13/2008, -0/+1Google doesn't crush competition or decent by writing big checks and throwing money around (*cough* Microsoft *cough*), they do it the old fashioned way and compete. If google do come up with their own digg clone then it's bye-bye digg which would most definitely suck.
An independent publicly traded Digg.com is the ideal situation, so come on guys launch an IPO already.- stigmataman, on 06/13/2008, -0/+2"writing big checks and throwing money around (*cough* Microsoft *cough*),"
*cough* YouTube *cough*- alanr19, on 06/14/2008, -0/+1You are correct of course, but I think this is more of an anomaly than a company policy.
