- jobeats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1nice, also added URL search
- en3r0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0good! :)
- thenativeraver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2hopefully this will cut down on dupes.
but in general people are stupid and will submit it anyways. - ViperDaimao, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I dont know how there are dupes, everytime I go to submit a story before it accepts it shows me a list of usually 6 dupes of it that have already been posted. Do people just not pay attention or what?
- CatfishJones, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I wouldn't say Digg users are stupid, well, not publicly, but they sure are lazy. It doesn't take more than a minute to run a search before submitting yet it seems few people do it. While a more advanced search is appreciated, and is something I've been hoping for, it still doesn't solve the root cause of dupes: lazy-ass submitters.
- PulpOutlaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WTF happened to the 'search promoted' constraint? How am I supposed to weed out the crap?
- thomashawk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Digg should tell you the dupe before making you submit a title description and captcha. It's a waste of time writing up a headline and even a simple description and then having to enter in the captcha three or four times because it never works only to be told it's a dupe. You should be able to submit the link, then see if it's a dupe, then enter in the headline, or at least have some little ajaxy thing that you can click next to the link that says check for dupe before moving on. They could still show you potential dupes after you write your description and headline based on keyword search, etc., but it would save time if a known link could be checked right away.
In fact, even better, would be when using the bookmarklet for submit to digg that right when the bookmarklet loaded it reminded you of the dupe.
Also, known registered users should be exempt from the captcha, perhaps you just blanket exempt anyone with a score of 1 or higher (for things on the front page) and then have a report abuse button if someone bypasses this. The redundancy of the captcha for known users is not necessary.

lame - matsiescruff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hrmm. i searched for something and it STILL didn't come up.
- maicowchoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, this looks so much better.
- Grogtron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This will make it so much easier to complain about dupes.
- jobeats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"why does this point to shurl?"
here we go again, Digg seriously needs a tutorial or something - dmann, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0id bet that the guys are working on a dupe killing feature. If they don't have it now, it's because its more complex, or causes problems or something thats WAY more technical than I understand. NOTE: I'm not a programmer, hacker, or much of a huge tech geek, so don't flame me for not knowing how easy/not the coding of a site is.
- jackusage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0great full bodied search
- quicksand, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have been thinking digg has needed this for awhile, now all it needs is to sort the results by the number of diggs or popularity of subject.
- tearinox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yay finally. Some of the stories that are voted lame, aren't really imo.
- joeyjojo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Now if only I could get them to fix the tabbed browser/login bug.
- jmccorm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Could not find this story:
Hack a Popcorn Bucket into a Secret Masturbatory Device!!! - Haplo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"hopefully this will cut down on dupes."
of course it won't, Digg already warns if the story is similar to one already in the system. People just hit submit, especially if it's their blog. - Haplo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"You should be able to submit the link, then see if it's a dupe,"
True, but on the other hand some dupes are nothing but blog promotion. The more digg will be discovered by our "friends" the more tricks you will see. Sadly. - thenativeraver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1now if there was just a way to group all the dupes into one....
- dohboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It would be great to order your search results by popularity (Digg counts), Date, or search relevancy (Digg search term hits).rn
- TheGooseyOne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"why does this point to shurl?
lame"
you gotta love noobs...how about trying the link before complaining? jesus...
anyway, kevin talked about this feature in an inerview...nice to see it implemented - foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0haha. you beat kevin to it! :P he's pissed now. he wanted to post this and have it make the front page.
- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"WTF happened to the 'search promoted' constraint? How am I supposed to weed out the crap?"
Search front page stories - MikeZila, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0viperd said "I don't know how there are dupes, everytime I go to submit a story before it accepts it shows me a list of usually 6 dupes of it that have already been posted. Do people just not pay attention or what? "
